HTC Sense messages problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I have a little problem with HTCSense-based ROMS.
When I get a SMS message and I istantly reply, my reply is put *behind* the message i want to reply. Is there a way to fix that?

My stock rom does this. If you look at the times you'll notice if your message goes 'behind' the original message, it's because the other person's clock is different to yours (normally faster).

Yeah the bloke above is right, its cuz the timestamp on the incomming sms is off by some seconds, its there clock nt ur fone
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

or your clock on your phone is fast

But on ROMS without sense, the messages don't have this bug. I think that is a prerogative of Sense ROMS..

SMS delivery reports

Hi all,
i recently got a desire on vodafone uk, i have found that i fail to recieve sms delivery reports whenever i send a text.
the box is checked in the sms settings but i still dont get any reports (although the texts do go through)
has anyone else had this problem? is it a handset problem or a network problem?
Are you sure? As far as i can tell you dont get a pop up, just an icon that appears in the corner of the message you just sent. Long press on the message and you get a list of options, one is View Report.
oh brilliant! i didn't realise that was the delivery report, ive just upgraded from the touch diamond where i would get an actual pop up msg notification.
cheers for your help.
It confused me to. While its not as nice as the Nokia pop up method, its better than the Winmo way, which is basically a full message, that i found really annoying.
Is there hack to show delivery pop ups or notifications
I don't want to use HANDCENT app
I was using opendesire ROM (4.0.36) later with original android mms app and it had that option (so cool ) it wasn't even showing the message icon before it was delivered.
(If you don't understand what I explained about opendesire ROM check it yourself)
AND NO I don't want to use opendesire ROMs too , although they are nice and frequently updated.
Issue 1801: Delivery report status icon for MMS/SMS
While "view report" works, displayed icon is not actually delivery notification. It is sent notification. It seems to be Android bug, not HTC's fault.

All I'm saying that this is fixed in Opendesire ROMs (try it!) isn't there a way to fix it on for example Modaco ROMs?

TEXT MESSAGE NOT SENT - constant problem

Guys, about 90% of the time when i send a text message, of any size, to anyone, i get a 'message can not be sent' notification and the phone vibrates, this happens about 2-7 times before the text message is sent, and for each time it tries to send the text again, this amount is send to the recipient, for example if it retries 7 times i will send the message 7 times - very annoying
when using the froyo rom from both paul and richardtrip i did not have this issue, although i am almost certain this was due to the stock messaging app, i even tried using handcent on the froyo which i used on the stock and on the froyo it worked perfectly too, but handcent will not work on the stock rom.
so it seems to me that it is an issue with either the stock (sense based) rom or the htc messaging app
im on tmobile UK on a branded phone, this happens on any radio, both rooted and unrooted
does anyone have any advice, or know of a way to replace the htc messaging app with the stock android messaging app?
if i could get this sorted id be very happy, so i appreciate any help
thanks in advance
I've had this issue happen a couple of times aswell, not sure how to replicate it, it seems totally random, but i haven't seen a 90% change of getting it!
try a new radio lol
This happens to me if I use any messaging system other than the default one (e.g. handcent or chomp) and the signal changes whilst sending the message (i.e. H to 3G or E to G etc. etc.)
I am still using the default rom with the latest update as I am waiting for 2.2 before rooting
turn off GRPS/EDGE/ 3G Data

Had exactly the same problem on stock/sense based verions of romms. NEver had an issue on stock android messaging app, only with the sense one. Think it must be a bug with that app. I'm T-mo in UK to but have an unbranded phone.
dont resend it, just wait until the message is sent, the phone resends automatically, because if you click the resend, it will send another message. what i do is when i get that error message i just wait.
I'm getting this problem on my o2-uk Desire; they are sending me a replacement handset

Thanks everyone for your replies
So it is confirmed that it is an issue with the HTC messaging app but not with the stock android messaging app, and no messaging clients can fix this as they use the default messaging app.
Is there anyway to change the HTC messaging app with the stock android? I prefer it anyway it works much better, the official froyo release will also contain the stock messaging app which I guess will have the same problem.
I will try flashing a different radio
Setting the phone to WCDMA only does not fix the issue
I am having this problem, and also another which I feel might be related, it tries to resend the message, and it eventually goes. I have also noticed that quite a number of times when I try to make a call, it doesnt dial, it just goes silent and returns to the call register screen. Maybe both related to a siganl problem . Somebody suggested switching off Edge or whatever, but thats not really a fix, and why should you have to do this to send a text. ?

I agree, and I also experience the same problem, sometimes during a phone call the most strange sounds happen and then the call cuts out, I'm guessing is interference. Problems with calls, text messages, and the connection repeatedly drops when using the mobile internet, exactly the same problems as the hd2, they will not get fixed by HTC, speaking from experience.. very basic requirements of a phone still not being met
I have the exact same issue with both texts and calls that seem to take ages to connect and then just dump me back to the dialer. I've put it down to O2 being so awful but of people have the same issues on other networks id love to know

I get it off and on, but I let it be and the messages eventually get sent out.

Same here. I did the resending thing for a while, but now I just ignore those error notifications. The text messages arrive anyway

same. I get it 10% of the time. On a unlocked Desire with a UK T-Mobile contract. just leave it to send a couple times, put your desire on a window sill and it should be okay.
but i think the message is not automatically sent if you lock the phone. can anyone confirm this? my unsent message was still not sent when i locked my phone.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, i used to get this issue all of the time when using handcent or chomp. However, since doing the following i've not had it happen once in 2 weeks (where it would happen 10+ times a day before)
1) uninstall any messaging software you have downloaded from the market
2) download sms unread count and sms popup from the market
3) put the sms unread count widget on the homescreen
4) configure sms popup to your liking
5) send messages to your heart's content
This uses the default 'messages' app rather than anything else and works perfectly

[Q] Gingerbread SMS time (Ginger Villian ROM)

Hi all, I recently installed the excellent Ginger Villian ROM on my HTC Desire but have noticed an issue with the SMS time that is displayed when you receive a text.
Previously I have been used to the text displaying the time that the text was sent not the time my phone received it. Has anyone else noticed this?
For example, if I have my phone on airplane mode or turn it off over night any texts I receive in the morning show the time that I just received them (rather than when the sender sent it).
I have also tried using Handcent SMS but the same problem exists. Is this just a Gingerbread 'quirk' or is there a way to get round this? I know it's not a major problem to most people but I like to be able to tell what time someone actually text me...
Any help is appreciated.
I think I have found the solution myself (although will probably have to wait til tomorrow to test it)
In Messaging click Menu, Settings and then scroll to nearly the bottom of the list. There is a box that says "Use original timestamps" which says will "Display and store sent date instead of reception date". This sounds like it'll do the trick.
Hopefully this might help some other sad people out there who want to time sent like I do

[Q] Sense 2.0 ROMS Multiple Text Message Problem?

Ever since i flashed my first Sense 2.0 Rom I have always had this problem. No matter which one it always happens and its really annoying. When texting a person and having the text be longer than 2 messages it will not send. It tries to send then i get the usually text message not sent error message. Even after that though it still continuously tries to send the texts and i have to then restart my phone every time. I think I may of seen someone with a similar problem a while ago within a Rom thread. Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it a known problem in Sense 2.0 Roms and can it be fixed?
Its a known issue I believe. You will have to cut every text at 160 chars or it usually doesn't send. Its fixed in cm7 and it works on regular 2.2 froyo sense roms but still an issue with sense 2.0; I think there's a fix if I find ill post it.
~ d3rk
Only fix so far is to use Handcent, Chomp or GO SMS Pro. They have options to automatically split texts at 160. It has something to do with all of the Sense 2.0 ports coming from GSM phones and it handles texts over 160 differently then the CDMA that we use. Or at least that's how it was explained to me.

[Q] text message notificaition problem + not recieving some of the text messages

i have tried to search all sorts of forums but cant find a solution .
i have a htc desire z rooted with virtuous unity rom . i dont get 10-20% of the texts sent to me. and sometimes i do not get any sound or notification of the texts i do recieve .
i have the same problem with my whatsapp application with no notfication sound or icon . i have to open the application to see if i have any messages . btw this does not happen all the time but at times.. mostly when my phone is locked and i havnt used it for 10-15mins .
can somebody please guide me if something could be wrong with my rom or my network or my phone . i am confused thanks
First thing I would've done is call my service provider and see if they see anything on their end..zero that factor out.

Due to memory problems of virtuous unity, the stock messages app doesnt detect some sms. The app gingerbread ghostly sms detects every single sms so you will not lose any. Gingerbread ghostly sms can be downloaded from the marketplace

Hmm wonder if this could be the culprit?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094397
Sorry didnt see that problem was fixed...
I'm currently having this problem as well but I use handcent. Do I have to use Ghostly sms?
G2 w/ Dezire Z, Virtuos Unity 2.39
After awhile of using Virtuous Unity the same issues began to happen and still are, its the exact same issues. I sometimes don't get notifications, I sometimes don't recieve messages at all but only from certain contacts it seems it continues to be that way. MMS's are totally jacked, wrong rez size, takes eternity to download and sometimes it doesnt work at all either, wheather or not im using wifi or not (which was never an issue at all anyway. I can work with ghostly, but what about mms? Anyone have any solution? I've tried a few apps for mms, but it doesnt change a thing.
maybe a differant rom is in order
