[Q] Sense 2.0 ROMS Multiple Text Message Problem? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since i flashed my first Sense 2.0 Rom I have always had this problem. No matter which one it always happens and its really annoying. When texting a person and having the text be longer than 2 messages it will not send. It tries to send then i get the usually text message not sent error message. Even after that though it still continuously tries to send the texts and i have to then restart my phone every time. I think I may of seen someone with a similar problem a while ago within a Rom thread. Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it a known problem in Sense 2.0 Roms and can it be fixed?

Its a known issue I believe. You will have to cut every text at 160 chars or it usually doesn't send. Its fixed in cm7 and it works on regular 2.2 froyo sense roms but still an issue with sense 2.0; I think there's a fix if I find ill post it.

Only fix so far is to use Handcent, Chomp or GO SMS Pro. They have options to automatically split texts at 160. It has something to do with all of the Sense 2.0 ports coming from GSM phones and it handles texts over 160 differently then the CDMA that we use. Or at least that's how it was explained to me.

TEXT MESSAGE NOT SENT - constant problem

Guys, about 90% of the time when i send a text message, of any size, to anyone, i get a 'message can not be sent' notification and the phone vibrates, this happens about 2-7 times before the text message is sent, and for each time it tries to send the text again, this amount is send to the recipient, for example if it retries 7 times i will send the message 7 times - very annoying
when using the froyo rom from both paul and richardtrip i did not have this issue, although i am almost certain this was due to the stock messaging app, i even tried using handcent on the froyo which i used on the stock and on the froyo it worked perfectly too, but handcent will not work on the stock rom.
so it seems to me that it is an issue with either the stock (sense based) rom or the htc messaging app
im on tmobile UK on a branded phone, this happens on any radio, both rooted and unrooted
does anyone have any advice, or know of a way to replace the htc messaging app with the stock android messaging app?
if i could get this sorted id be very happy, so i appreciate any help
thanks in advance
I've had this issue happen a couple of times aswell, not sure how to replicate it, it seems totally random, but i haven't seen a 90% change of getting it!
try a new radio lol
This happens to me if I use any messaging system other than the default one (e.g. handcent or chomp) and the signal changes whilst sending the message (i.e. H to 3G or E to G etc. etc.)
I am still using the default rom with the latest update as I am waiting for 2.2 before rooting
turn off GRPS/EDGE/ 3G Data

Had exactly the same problem on stock/sense based verions of romms. NEver had an issue on stock android messaging app, only with the sense one. Think it must be a bug with that app. I'm T-mo in UK to but have an unbranded phone.
dont resend it, just wait until the message is sent, the phone resends automatically, because if you click the resend, it will send another message. what i do is when i get that error message i just wait.
I'm getting this problem on my o2-uk Desire; they are sending me a replacement handset

Thanks everyone for your replies
So it is confirmed that it is an issue with the HTC messaging app but not with the stock android messaging app, and no messaging clients can fix this as they use the default messaging app.
Is there anyway to change the HTC messaging app with the stock android? I prefer it anyway it works much better, the official froyo release will also contain the stock messaging app which I guess will have the same problem.
I will try flashing a different radio
Setting the phone to WCDMA only does not fix the issue
I am having this problem, and also another which I feel might be related, it tries to resend the message, and it eventually goes. I have also noticed that quite a number of times when I try to make a call, it doesnt dial, it just goes silent and returns to the call register screen. Maybe both related to a siganl problem . Somebody suggested switching off Edge or whatever, but thats not really a fix, and why should you have to do this to send a text. ?

I agree, and I also experience the same problem, sometimes during a phone call the most strange sounds happen and then the call cuts out, I'm guessing is interference. Problems with calls, text messages, and the connection repeatedly drops when using the mobile internet, exactly the same problems as the hd2, they will not get fixed by HTC, speaking from experience.. very basic requirements of a phone still not being met
I have the exact same issue with both texts and calls that seem to take ages to connect and then just dump me back to the dialer. I've put it down to O2 being so awful but of people have the same issues on other networks id love to know

I get it off and on, but I let it be and the messages eventually get sent out.

Same here. I did the resending thing for a while, but now I just ignore those error notifications. The text messages arrive anyway

same. I get it 10% of the time. On a unlocked Desire with a UK T-Mobile contract. just leave it to send a couple times, put your desire on a window sill and it should be okay.
but i think the message is not automatically sent if you lock the phone. can anyone confirm this? my unsent message was still not sent when i locked my phone.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, i used to get this issue all of the time when using handcent or chomp. However, since doing the following i've not had it happen once in 2 weeks (where it would happen 10+ times a day before)
1) uninstall any messaging software you have downloaded from the market
2) download sms unread count and sms popup from the market
3) put the sms unread count widget on the homescreen
4) configure sms popup to your liking
5) send messages to your heart's content
This uses the default 'messages' app rather than anything else and works perfectly

[HELP] New texts randomly get deleted!

So I seem to have this HUGE problem. I've noticed this first about 2 months ago. The problem is that my notification light will blink, the phone will vibrate, and a notification for a new text will play. But I go to check my texts, and nope! Nothing! So, I thought it was just whatever. But people actually were texting me and my Evo decided to just delete it for whatever reason. Now this doesn't happen for every new text, I get about 150 a day, and it will do it for around 5 new texts. It gets annoying cuz then I have to text my friends to ask if they just texted me or not since I never got it cuz my phone deleted it. Not to mention I'm trying to patch things up with someone and it doesn't help if they text me and I never reply because I never "got" it.
I can replicate this issue when I play a memory intensive game. I know I'm getting texts because I've tried sending a text from another phone, and it would light up or whatever, but I would NEVER see that text. Plants vs. Zombies can replicate it. So I've considered it to be a memory issue. Maybe my MMS receiver closes as it needs more RAM. So I've been trying to figure out how to lock everything MMS related to memory but with no luck. And yes, I've tried to use MMS apps like Handcent, GO SMS Pro etc. No luck there either. And I've tried to use AMM to bring up the priority of my MMS service, also with no luck as it just resets to hidden app.
I've had this issue on quite a few ROM's. Synergy (Nightlies, RC1, RC2-Currently Running), MikG since the beta days, the Gingerbread leak, Kingdom REVOlution. Even on Froyo! I'm getting desperate to try CM7, I really love Sense but if this issue persists, I might just try CM7, but I wanted to know, has anyone else ever had this problem? Am I just screwed!? I'm afraid to get a replacement because of no root. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I would recommend signing up for Google Voice it backs up all your texts online and because your on Sprint you dont have to change your number Another Pro is that when switching roms it will download your texts for you when you install the App from Market. I am pretty sure this will fix it because your texts will get routed through Google Voice
google.com/voice
go sms pro
To avoid this problem i would advice switching to go sms pro its faster and lighter than the htc stock sms app. ever since I switched i had no probs.

[Q] Strange MMS problems?

I the last month or so my MMS has not been working properly. I can send messages just fine but I don't receive all of them. I will be sitting next to a friend and watch them send me a text and I will never receive it. It isn't every single text but enough to make it a hassle. It has been happening for the past month or so, which coincidentally is when I started using Sense 3.0 roms. I have no idea if this is what caused it, I have tried different sense 3.0 roms and the problem has yet to be fixed. I also have problems sometimes where when my phone turns off, whether I restart it or if it dies, when I turn it back on i send random old texts to random people.
Any insights on either of these two problems would be greatly appreciated.

Iphone SMS converts to MMS on my Droid Inc. Every time!

Every time someone sends me a text from an iPhone to my Droid Incredible it is formatted as an MMS and appears that way on my bill. Anyone know how to fix that problem, on either end?
Is it every text message or just ones that are over 160 characters? I think those sometimes get converted to MMS, and sometimes they get broken up into multiple messages, depending on the messaging app.
I have been having the same problem for months, and have not found an solution yet. Any luck on your end? Oh, and for me it is every text message, even if the message is only a couple words long.
I use GoSMS and don't have this problem.

[Q] Phone will not send texts longer than one page?

I just recently flashed an ICS rom on my Evo, works great but whenever I send messages that are even one character longer than 'one page' I instantly receive an error message saying that it failed, anything less than one page seems to work fine though, any and all advice would be highly appreciated
One page (SMS character split?)
For starters what ICS rom are you running? I am running PreludeDrew's latest ICS rom (P5) and I have no problems with SMS split if that is indeed what you are referring to (going past 160 characters).
160 character bugs are known issues for GSM ports or for phones not on cdma. Some people have it some people don't its based on location. I don't have it. What you can do is use go SMS and enable splitting in the settings.
Sent from my Warm 3.5 Evo using xda app
+1 for GOSMSPro it makes using different apn settings on other carriers painless and has tons of customization options, and it has the split and send as split*over 160 char* in the send settings
