Hiding uppers menus while browsing page? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While browsing pages , i see url bar, time date etc. At HTC Desire there is no problem like that. Is there something on nexus one. Briefly it i will hide everything when a page viewed

Huh? What's the question?
-You just said there's no problem with the Desire. So, what is the issue?
-Is there what on the Nexus One?
-When will what hide what?

I have a HTC Desire phone. I installed a custom ROM on it.
While i was on HTC Desire's orjinal rom , while i view a page, the upper bar was disappearing automaticy.
Now i installed htc desire 2.2 rom which is based on froyo. In this version while i'm browsing it's not disappearing automaticly.
Is there a setting for it or addon ?

You didn't mention what ROM...
Anyway, perhaps you should direct your query at the ROM chef on the respective thread.

I have opendesire rom now

The only thing i can think of is that if you were running a launcher such as Launcher Pro, there is an option within its settings (preferences) to hide the top status bar... it was probably not related to your issue though.

Uhm... Launcher2?

N1 user here, but running Desire ROM. I've noticed that ever since Paul's released alpha17--which unlike his earlier builds is based on the Desire's release candidate--there's no longer Launcher2.apk. I can clear HTC Sense's defaults and press home, but... no option to pick Launcher2. Launcher2.apk doesn't exist in the ROM. Gone. Nada. Killed in action.
Obviously, as someone who's got root and can adb push Launcher2.apk from elsewhere, this isn't an issue for me. But if the Desire also lacks Launcher2, it means you guys (until it's rooted) can't switch to vanilla Android if the fancy takes you, which is weird. So, can any of you please check if you have got Launcher2 or not?
I want to root lol.
Have you tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645550?
Download the zip file. Extract the launcher.apk to your sd card. Browse to the file (for example use astro) and install it. Be sure to have checked the box "Allowing unkown software installation" (or something like that).
Does this work? Shouldnt need root access.
No, no. See, I don't need Launcher2 myself and even if I did, I can manually install it. It's just that I was led to believe that the Desire itself will retain Launcher2 and switching from vanilla Android to Sense would be no different from switching between home replacements (which was the case in earlier Desire alphas).
Ah ok, I see. Misunderstood your problem. I believe that we need definitely root for the Desire, this would fix many problems...
Launcher2 can be installed without root-access, so this is no problem. You just can't push it to the /system/app folder. You can still install it, and thereby placing it in /data/app.
It makes perfectly sense that HTC removed the Launcher2.apk from the release ROM, as this is a phone with HTCs own Sense UI.
I do agree that root-access is needed, but not for this incident.
using the desire there is an option to disable Sense UI, and you will end-up with a N1 experience.
Programs > Unknown Sources > HTC Sense > Controls > choose stop and select "launcher" .... and thats it
A quick question: When you use Launcher2 instead of Sense, can you still pinch to see all the pages?
Nope. You lose the ability to pinch and all HTC widgets.
Thanks.
And Sense can't work in landscape mode, right?
(and the HTC music player also?)

Wrong! there is no Launcher app to replace Sense, so it just automatically jumps back to default.

if your device is crippled than thats another story all together
That doesn't work now when i try it on mine it just kicks back in using htc sense.
Guess Paul didn't take out Launcher2 from his ROM for giggles, then. I wonder if you could just install Launcher2.apk extracted from an N1 ROM normally. Probably you could.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but launcher2 is not in the official latest desire rom.
This does not have anything to do with T-mobile.
I have seen a lot of desire phone's and none of them have the launcher2.apk.
(at least on the dutch market that is )
why don't you just install it like I did. better still install helix launcher from the market. same as launcher2 but allows placement of 4 icons level with the draw which will appear on every page

XDA Android App - Problems / Bugs / Feature Requests etc.

Although I'm nothing todo with the XDA Android Tapa-talk based app - I thought it was about time we had a single thread for all discussions making it easier for the powers that be to monitor and give feedback via.
Feel free to ask questions about it's use and report any faults you find. You can also ask for new features, but I cannot promise they will ever be delivered.
N.B. The mods will be merging questions about the app into here from the "About" forum also.
So, have at it...

how about a wm5 app because when i try to access xda from my tytn 11 using opera or IE i get the web version. should i be typing in a diffrent addy?
FC when logging in?
On my HTC Eris (2.1 stock; rooted), I can read forums fine, but as soon as I try to login to search or post, the app FCs. I have uninstalled/re-installed, cleared cache, etc., But can not get rid of the problem. It did work initially.
Has anyone else seen this or anything similar?
Thanks!
The Tapa Talk based app seems to work well other than a minor bug I've noticed. It appears the Desire Q&A forum is missing in the HTC Desire section. At a guess it may be a bug in the Tapa Talk software dealing with the ampersand in the forum name.
Hello I was in hope of an update that can give settings options to auto hide the dock at the top i have an HD2 running Android and it would be great if i was able to use my whole screen versus a fraction of it due to the Android status bar and the fixed menu options at the top

I like this idea.
We're working on a premium ad-free version of the app. It might take a while, but maybe not. This is a good example of a feature that would be included.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but just noticed what is causing this. Must have favourited the Desire forum before the Q&A forum was added so never seem to see it while accessing via favourites.
However, if I access it via the main forum lists it appears fine.
Workaround seems to be to remove favourites and re-add them if any new sub-forums are added.
Hello,
Don't know if this issue is known here on the forum, if so my apologies and you can move this reply.
Working on Desire HD, i can't seem to save my favorites.
XDAapp is installed fine, I can login, then i can save a favorite, but when i close the app and open it again, my favorite is gone.
I've tried to install the app again, but this won't help.
Any1 have a solution?
Nevermind,
after reinstalling the app twice again it worked.
Not got a phone at the minute so cant test the app for a few days to check if the feature is already there but how about 2 version or at least 2 themes 1 for lcd screens (light version) and 1 for amole screen (dark version) just to help save on battery life as we all know lcd performs better with light colours and amoled performs better with dark colours.
Getting "XDA App" without using Android Market?
This is not a "bug" or "feature request", however, I'm following various development efforts here in XDA land and would love to have the XDA App on a Android 2.2 Tablet that does not have access to the Market!
Why is the latest version of the "XDA App for Android" not available as a simple download somewhere on this website?
I found an old 0.9 version that has problems and would like to get (and keep) the latest and greatest verion on my Tablet!
Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide...
Regards.
That's a fair idea
Though it's tempting to ask why you don't just make the market work on the device and install from there
But still, good idea

Got a strange bug that no matter how many times i Re-install the app it just doesn't go away.
Basicly it started happening randomly the other day (worked fine for a while) and know when ever I search for anything the app FC's.
I've tried re-installing & even wiped my phone back to stock but still the same thing happens every time.
Any advice?

I've just checked with my friends Desire HD & his does the same! To replicate the fault do the following.
*Open the app
*Once loaded press the "Search" button on your phone.
*Search for something
That's pretty much it, as soon as you press enter it FC's. Ill see if i can dig about more & find out why it is doing this & if there is a work around!
I found myself using it all the time. It's a very handy app for keeping current. Unfortunately, I can't find a way of navigating to the "Legacy" phones section, so it no longer shows the forum I was reading.

There were some server errors last night, during which time you would have received blank pages, or messages about tapatalk having been removed.

I have found a work around & I now know which phones this effects.
This problem only seams to effect new UK HTC Phones like the Desire Z & HD (Not 100% sure if its just UK phones but that is all I have to work with). It does not matter which rom its on as it effects all roms (must be something to do with the hardware!)
There is a work around that allows you to search & this is it:
1) Once the app is running click on the "More Info" tab
2) Click back onto the "Latest" tab
3) Press the search button & search as normal
I belive its something to do with the hardware of the Desire Z/HD. Maybe its not allowing the xda app to open our account thus not allowing us to search so when accessing the "More Info" tab it allows the phone to access our account? Just a theory though!
Hope this helps someone! I'm just happy that I can know search XDA on my phone! XD

FC on Advent Vega
I've just started using the App on a Advent Vega (Android 2.2)
If I click on the favourites tab, I can log on and see my favourite forums listed. I can then open up the forums, but as soon as I click on a thread, I get a FC.
If I don't log on, I can access the threads with no problems.
I have tried this on my Desire, but there are no issues with that device.
If you need any more info, please let me know.

[Q] Change how the app menu scrolls?

I recently rooted my DHD and flashed LeeDroid and noticed the the app menu now scrolls in pages rather then scrolling through them freely like my stock 2.2 used to. Is there a setting or something I can use to change this? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Unfortunately not at the moment. This is a Gingerbread feature and as far as I know nobody has yet managed to make it freely scrollable.

ARHD 6.1.5 - Missing 'car panel' ?

OK, bit of background first
Currently I have rooted phone, with ARHD 5.2.3 installed,
I also have a full license for HTC step-by-step navigation (I'm on PAYG, so don't want to use Google's Sat-Nav otherwise I'll need a constant data connection when I use it)
I recently updated to ARHD 6.1.5 (after making a NAND backup) to give it a try & see what Sense 3 is all about.
First thing I tried though is HTC Sat-nav, & I find that 'Car Panel' doesn't exist anymore....
I managed to find a sat-nav through 'locations' (which also allowed me to 'update my license'), but not sure if this is HTC version or Google
Since I couldn't find Carpanel I restored my NAND backup - so I'm now back @ ARHD 5.2.3
Can anyone confirm that 'Car panel' has been removed in Sense 3 ??
Has it been renamed to something else ??
Or have HTC 'merge' it into one of their other Apps ??
I found it useful to tap 'Car Panel' to get straight to the HTC Step-by-Step Navigation, instead of going through Footprints/Locations/Maps etc
(To be honest - is there an official 'Sense 3' FOR the Desire HD, or only modified ROMs with sense 3 added to them ??)
Any help appreciated
hmm, a lot of people viewing this - but no one knows anything ??
Anyway, doing more 'research' (i.e. googling) I THINK I now figured out something about this - but would like some confirmation....
Seems like 'Car panel' (it was also known as 'Car Home' on other phones) is suppose to pop up automatically (I think) when connecting to the offical HTC 'Car Port' (or Car holder)...
I'm now guessing that SINCE it suppose to pop up automatically, HTC has removed the link (i.e. Car panel) from the Apps drawer/ 'Menu > All Apps' in Sense 3.
Is there a way to replace it ??
I've read (for other HTC phones) there is a way, but I've tried them & they don't seem to work (the Apps are called differently anyway so I guess that's why), & I find it a pain having to go 'locations' > 'footprints' > {select a footprint} > 'Premium navigation' just to get to the Car panel
Once again many thanks to anyone who can help
I have a license for HTC's Premium navigation and using it in [email protected] It is true that Car Panel does not exist in Sense 3.0. I think it is not because the leaked rom, that arhd is based on, is not an official version as the Car panel does not exist in Sensation either. And Sensation does have an official Sense 3.0.
I'm using it at the moment by sacrificing one screen for Locations widget which has a launcher for navigator.
Ah - thanks for the reply.. glad to get some confirmation on my suspicions
Your 'tip' for using one of the screens up for location sounds like a workaround (for now).
Was thinking though after reading other 'car panel/car home missing' threads the following..
Do you think that IF I could extract 'Car panel' from a Sense 2 ROM (i.e ARHD 5.2.3) - it might work with Sense 3 (ARHD 6.1.5) ??
I was thinking of posting in the official ARHD ROM thread, but I'm worried it'll get 'lost' with all the other posts, since it's a quite popular thread

[Q] (Q)original widget and phone?

I root my phone with CyanogenMod 7th
Everything is so good. I ycket happy, but I miss some things we had in the original ROM.
In the first place:
For example, weather clock widget that you could add more cities to keep track of the weather. There is a widget that you look at the HTC phones when you google for HTC Wildfire.
Second:
Phone as the original Wildfire had when you hit 2637327 may be proposed by ANDREAS if you have Andreas in the phone book.
Someone who can help me?
Well, to solve ur first problem, u can download Beautiful Widgets from the market.
To solve ur second problem, either download Go Contacts or exDialer from market. I would prefer exDialer. Download both n checkout which one u r comfortable with, although both r very similar.
If u hv any more problems, go ahead n ask.

Getting the original programs to work on Cyanogenmod is not possible. The only solution is to look for alternatives.
For your first issue, you will have to use some other weather widget like Beautiful Widgets (As stated above), or, Fancy Widgets, whichever looks better to you. (Fancy Widgets has a skin called "H7C". A replica of the HTC Sense Clock)
Alternate solution to 2nd issue:
Download the latest nightly from this post. It includes a T9 dialer:

When I download nightly do I have to wipe and do a backup?
htc wf tapatalk
Not required, but perform a backup, in case something goes wrong / doesn't work after the upgrade.
Ok what about wipe?
htc wf tapatalk
Not required.
With that nightly I get some issius with adw Launcher procces gets clouse and phone eats my battery
I'll try to reinstall stabil and than nightly again.
I'll let you know

Try a reinstall. I am using the same build (by ErwinP), and don't have these issues. Check for any apps you may have recently installed that may be in an always running state. Also, a newer nightly by cobje has been posted here. You can try installing that as well:

The official nightly builds are still down but erwinp and cobje have been compiling them instead, they are built from the same source but won't show on the cm website as they are classed as unofficial.
