It's not possible. You can have a look on the desire general forum where the same question was discussed

Hi I tried searching for this using the xda app but didn't find anything.
I think I have noticed that when charging the phone once the battery is full it doesn't maintain the charge if left plugged in, you have to unplug and plug the charger back in for it to start charging
Any one else found this?
Cheers
Tom

It's a feature on the Desire. It's to prevent the phone battery from overcharging.

That's a real bugger as I normally charge overnight so its good for a full days use, but that routine isn't going to be much good now.
Thanks for confirming though

basically what happens is, if you charge while the device is on, when it reaches 100% it will quickly discharge to 90% and then charge again till it reaches 100%, it will follow that cycle until you unplug it
Ah that makes a lot more sense
Thanks for letting me know

hi all,
my wildfire s usb connection goes on and off, seems like a loose connection,
A thread in desire general, recommends cleaning the battery leads, tightening the battery up with a piece of paper and all, tried all these stuff with no results
will this be a software problem, or any hardware problem(my warranty ends this month)
what should i do??
Have u tried with a different cable ??

Hey guys,
Just received DHD from eBay and the guy has forgotten to ship the battery -_-
I'ts on its way but I'd just like to check if the phone works or not, so is there a way to turn it on using another power source?
Thanks, Gabriel.
Do you have the wall charger? Usb cable? Give that a go.

Tried that and didn't work.. Is there some kind of mode i could turn it on with? I know when I plugged my old HTC Sasla in to the wall it turned on.
It doesn't work without the battery.

I agree. It sounds like multiple hardware failures. You could but a new battery for cheap but the screen may be a write off.

What you mean by "battery is like im not charging it at all" do you see the indicator showing that charging is in process? Try to charge trough usb port not by wall charger. If you plug the cable in the USB port on your PC, whats happen? Maybe the problem isn't a battery itself, but the microusb port on your phone...
I meant that battery finished so fastly.. Sorry for my bad English
