Hard Reset Question - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right now this has really pee'd me off. I've gone to send a text message to my Dad, but I can't because the "phone memory is full", WTF ! Thank god it weren't important. BTW apparently I'm at 6mb so I don't understand how one small (KB?) message is gunna make a difference.
So I was wondering if a hard reset is worth a try? I'd like to know if it will actually free up any memory. I think I heard of people doing this and it has, is this correct? Also, will it remember all of the apps I've downloaded through the market? Also, any info on HTC backup software would be awesome help, but dw if not I'm sure there are loads of threads about that anyway.
Many thanks in advance!

A hard reset will basically give you the default clean ROM that you have installed.
Does your phone not have to many SMS's saved?

Is there anyway I can find out how many I have?

Well I'm looking at my Froyo messaging settings here and I can see an option saying that it's limiting the messages in a conversation to 200 and 20 mms messages per conversation.
Not sure about the stock SenseUI ROM though.

Yeah mine says that as well but that doesn't show how many, and I'd rather it didn't just delete any message

Mine shows a number next to the conversation stating how many messages there are.

Damn, doesn't appear to be on stock ROM, thanks for info though.

Thanks but I've already tried that they all of them are usinghardly any cache.
Can any one else answer my original question?
Thanks

You should be able to see the number of messages per conversation, that has been a standard thing for Sense as far as I can remember. If you really want to keep a hold of your text message try an sms back up program. I use one that backs everything to Gmail for me so it doesn't really matter if it getsdeleted.

It's not an app that you're downloading, the message per conversation counter is a default feature on Sense. Next to each contact that you send messages to, you should see a number in brackets next to them. I'm really not sure if you know what we're all talking about or we may not be understanding what you are after but I'd suggest give us a rundown on your software version and whether for not you have a carrier phone and maybe a screen shot of your messaging inbox.

[Q] Problem with my Messages

I have searched everywhere for this answer, but I thought it would be worth a shot asking here.
I have been trying for a month now to get this problem fixed and its on my last nerve. When I send or receive a message from my girlfriend, it pops up as two names instead of one. (refer to the attachment) The contact named "David" pops in front of her name every time. I have tried reinstalling and deleting or even re adding both people's contact. Nothing has worked and would absolutely LOVE some input on this. It happens with a few of my other contacts, but this one is the one I use all the time so you can understand my torment.
I cant go into the thread to send a message, because everything i send goes to both people obviously (very annoying)
I appreciate any help....BTW I use handcent for messaging

Isn't it weird.... i didn't have one problem with this on 2.1. When i wiped everything... including cache... for SkyRaider the first time thats when it started. I have had to wipe many times for SkyRaider ROM updates and every time i do, i still get this problem in some form.
It wouldn't be ROM related would it... or is it a Froyo thing? grr
This pic shows it a little better.

did someone mess with your phone and save your girls number under david lee as well? Also, did you text both of them in the same message? Can you confirm that david lee is not receiving your texts as well?

No one has messed with my phone at all. I just checked again and they are both totally separate. David Lee does not have Chelsea's in his contact numbers and Chelsea does not have Davids.
Yes if i actually send a message through that thread it will go to both of them. With my brother's contact, its worse. When the thread pops up for his it's not just two people, its like 9. The only way to ensure that she only receives my message is to go to her contact and select the "send message" button with her cell number.
Did you originally send both of them the same message?

No, I never send either of them the same message and originally I probably sent a message to Chelsea and that's what it looks like everytime instead of her name by itself.

As you tell from this picture, it doesn't really fix it. I deleted his contact...un synced Facebook....uninstalled and reinstalled handcent to arrive at what I have in that picture. How in the Hell the number still shows up even after the contact is gone is ridiculous...

Need Help please

i just flashed the Warm Z TwoPointTwo rom on my evo, its great and all but i when i receive a text message or email the led notification light does not blink. does anyone know why?
Did you enable it in the options?
Are you using any other apps like tasker to override it? Or not enable in your app settings?
Yes i did. Ok so now when i get a email, it blinks. But for text messages it does not still.
What messaging app are you using? It seems like your text notifications aren't on.

It will not work with the stock messaging app. Atleast it didn't for me. I used the wimax notifier located in the themes and apps section. Was told it didn't work because it is a port from the sense 2.0. Hence the "z".

Well we just unveiled the secret of that stock messaging app won't activate the led with warm z, so you need to use a 3rd party app, such as handcent for texting.

I haven't tried it so I can't confirm. That's my only educated guess.

Hold down on contacted and then hit the 3 dot thing and tap remove from log. To remove favorites you gotta log in and click on contact and then find the find the setting to remove starred contacts but it didnt update on phone. I dont know how to proceed with that part.

Clearing data in contacts storage works on mine, and it must on yours as well.
Only thing I can think of if that doesn't work, is if you store your contacts on phone or sim. But can't understand why you would do that.

How can this data be cleared? I have been trying to find a way to clear the frequently called list for weeks since ICS came out!!
Anyone thought about checking in their Gmail account online to see if Google has said contact(s) flagged as frequently contacted?

Sadly that clears even the call log. I want to clear the frequently called list or some specific numbers from that list but maintain my history.
I don't mind the frequently called list to be hidden since I can manually clear the history. Frequently called list however does not allow deleting some numbers.

This really is annoying.
you could just install exdialer from the market. you can delete individually calls from call history (incoming/outgoing/missed). and you get T9 dialing with it as well as a bunch of other useful stuff missing from the stock dialer.
doesn't consume much resources, very fast, and you can have it look almost exactly like stock dialer with its ICS theme.
If you want to have the same stock dialer icon you can use desktop visualizer (free) and link it to the stock dialer icon.

[Q] messaging bugs/issues

Got my one the day after release day from Verizon. I've been noticing a couple little bugs going on with the messaging app and want to see if anyone else is having the issues. Friend of mine has the phone to and he seems to be issue free.
The first issue is when hanging up a call, I often get a " unfortunately messages has stopped". No idea what's causing it but it's happening Pretty frequently.
The second one is hard to explain but I'll do my best. A few times while messaging multiple people individually, it some how puts the full message that I just sent right back into the text field. Almost like I never sent it but I did. Ends up saving the message as a draft so I have to erase it. I haven't figured out the exact steps to make this happen but if I do, I'll post it here.
Anyone else having these weird issues?

Send SMS to multiple recipients but individual inbox

Hello, I'd like to know how to send SMS to multiple people and have the option to "split" them so they can go in their own inbox after. I used to be able to with the Trickdroid mod. But I am unable to on arhd or maximushd(my current rom)
I really like the default App. But if a side app could do it that would be nice too!
