Problems with EXCHANGE & Push - Desire General

Hi,
I had a iPhone 3G, and now a HTC Desire.
I can get my Mails & Contacts over the air with EXCHANGE, but there comes no Push-Notification if a new mail arrives.
Push is activated in settings.
Can someone help me?
Regards,
Kangaroo

Open mail and goto menu>more> settings> notification settings> this will give you a notification in the top task bar.

you may have the old shoddy htc mail problem, it shows itself as push stopping after a while for no good reason. Try a force close on mail and see if it works.
BTW, are u using a Telstra Desire?
LM

I installed trial of Roadsync - works perfect ...
So I'll spend this $9,95 ...
Greetz,

btw. it's a german HTC Desire - T-Mobile-Device (rooted) with original ROM

Email notifications not working [DESIRE]

I noticed this morning that my phone is notifying me when I receive an email via the stock email application on my HTC Desire.
I've got sound and LED for SMS/MMS/Gmail etc, but not email. It's downloading them without me prompting it, but just not telling me when I've got one. Desire is running 2.1, anyone know of a fix?
Thanks
Notifications are set to LED and Sound - still no sound or LED. I've even done a factory reset, nothing.
Now It's not even checking for mail on its own.

I'm confused. Does it notify you, or does it NOT notify you? Have you checked & re-checked the settings, both from Settings > Sound and Mail app > Settings?
App settings are set to 'email notifications on and sound notifications on' and led in sound settings is on too. It doesn't make a noise or flash the led when I receive a email.

Go to Mail (or Gmail) > Menu > Settings, then check all the settings (incl Select ringtone, as it might be set to Silent).
Gmail notifications are working, I'm talking about the 'mail' app. There is no ringtone setting in there + notifications are all set to on.
It was working fine the other day, no settings were changed and then it just stopped.

So I contacted HTC on Friday night regarding my 'problem' and I've received two emails from them saying:
"It could be a driver issue... hard reset the phone or send it back to us.."
and another one saying
"It could be a software issue... hard reset the phone or send it back to us.."
I'm not sending my phone anywhere, I don't think I could go the day without my phone. Surely someone knows of a fix which doesn't require me flashing my phone?
Strangely enough it's started notifying me when I get a email now. I changed no settings or anything. My phone clearly went on strike for the weekend.
I have the exact same issue.
I contacted HTC who said it could be a task killer ending the email application but i tried that and still my emails will not receive unless i manually send and recieve them.
it seems odd that every now and then it works perfectly then just stops without me doing anything.
Very annoying, if you find a cure please let me know
Mine's back to normal now. I did absolutely nothing either. No task killer installed.
Is there any more news on this? My emails have stopped and so has my gf using HTC Magic.
Any other news from HTC?

I contacted HTC and they said it could be a driver issue or a software issue, and if a factory reset didn't resolve it the device should be sent to them for repair.
I had a friend who had this problem at the same time as mine, and his randomly started working again at the same time as mine.
Im sure when I was messing around with my app that it is set to notify me monday to friday 9-5 and not to notify me after that or at the weekend, Can't confirm this as, well my phone is with HTC
Mine is set to send and recieve between 10am and 10pm 7 days.
I still have to manually recieve them and still cannot send any emails.
I am waiting for a response from HTC
My response from HTC
The only email account that gets automatically synced is your primary Google account. Hotmail relies on POP3 technology and as such is what is known as 'push email' i.e. you have to physically tap on the email app for it to check the server. Hope this makes it clearer.
Mine never worked, but I don't care as I use the gmail notifier widget.

[Q] HTC Activsync (Exchange) in stock Android 2.2

Hi,
Had my Desire for 2 weeks now, came from Apple and loving the change.
Tried various ROMS and find I still fall back to a Sense rom for 1 reason only and that is HTC's offering in terms of Exchange, it has everything I needs and Touchdown and the other solutions don't match it.
I would prefer a stock 2.2 Rom BUT with the HTC ActiveSync mail, calendar and contacts syn built in
I know I dont need to use Sense, currently running LeeDroid 1.8 with Launcher pro so still getting ActivSync.
Anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks
+1
Exactly same here

Hi there,
I would recommend using a sense rom anyway. I would prefer the non-sense version of a rom as well but there is a problem with teh built in E-mail client of android and exchange. No matter what you select as syn schedule, the phone tries to connect to the server more than once a second. In the end the battery dies very fast! I have tested this many times with different roms! It is even worse when you are in an area with bad reception or have no connection at all.
Phone completely charged, 100 %, put it in Airplane mode, 6 hours later died cause the battery was down!
Sense roms use HTC Mail app wich works perfect!
Once this is sorted I will switch ass well.
there is even an official Google Issue for this
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9718
If you install a rom and put in in Airplane mode and leave it for a time, afterward you can check the partial wake in the battery history you will see the email app takes a very big share!
That is exactly what I want HTC mail client with the HTC ActivSync as well to do the push / fetch, same for contacts and calender.

HTC Desire Mail application

Can I check with you guys the mail application in htc desire whether the push is faulty in terms that the pushing of mails is rather slow.
I have already set the off peak and on peak to push already.
You might want to check on your settings again. Did you set how often to downlaod the mails?
Where to find this 'how often to download the mails'?
Anyone can help out on this?

I always get notifications of email, open the app and just have enough time to watch the mail vanish before my eyes.
I blame my isp.

Are you using (configured your email) Exchange, right?
Just wanted to confirm.
Yup I'm using exchange for this purposes. Speaking of which, does that means that I can't configure yahoo mail into htc desire too?

[Q] Gmail push email stopped working

About a month or more ago, my emails stopped coming through to my HTC Desire automatically. At the time, I was running Android 2.1
I thought I would wait to see if the problem was fixed by the 2.2 update, but after receiving the Orange OTA update, push email still doesn't work, and I have to refresh manually.
Any ideas anyone? I am pretty sure I haven't changed any settings, but couldn't find a push email setting when looking a moment ago!
Thanks
Check in setting/account and synch if gmail/mail synch is enabled

Thanks, that's fixed it. I have no idea how it got disabled!

[Q] Exchange Activesync constantly syncing when set to 'Push' mail

Hi
Has anyone else encountered this issue, or know of a solution? I've searched and have found similar problems but nothing exactly like this.
I've just upgraded to Stock gingerbread using the RUU download.
I use Exchange Activesync to sync only my mail from Gmail. However, when set to 'Push' email it will go into a constant loop of syncing.
One thing I noticed, after deleting and re-setting up the account a number of times, is that it works fine until I delete emails. Once I delete, the non-stop syncing begins....
Apologies if this has been asked before-I searched, honest!
Many thanks in advance for any info.
Unbranded DHD on stock Gingerbread, Virgin, UK.
Do you use GMAIL or the htc mail app?
In the htc mail app, it is looping if you set the app to synchronize more than one day (3days beeing the default value)
With 1 day, it is working partially : many sync will end in error, but will succeed later.
definitively, htc isn't able to provide a stable solution for AES...
For my part, I still use the Froyo stock mail app, wich is working very well with hotmail, but unfortunately without html support. (you can easilly install it with the apk)

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this did not work for me.
Yes-I'm using the HTC Mail app.
I deleted the account and set it up again , reduced the syncing to one day as you suggested, but as soon as I delete any emails, it goes back into the continuous syncing loop.
Would I have to be rooted to install the Mail app from Froyo?
Thanks again!
I have same issue. If I setup Gmail as an exchange activesync with m.google.com it continuously syncs and sometimes authentication error, then it works fine again.
With other exchange accounts it is fine.
I prefer the Mail app over Gmail app as I prefer not to have conversation view and it will view.docx word files.

Yes-I prefer the Mail app. Nice clean UI. Always used to work well for me with Froyo. Giving Moxier a trial right now, Seems to work fine but a bit pricey.
Same boat here.
Prefer the HTC mail app but getting sick of the constant syncing.
I'm using a custom Rom, could that be the problem?

No, you can install it on unrooted phones.
BTW you are able to uninstall it like all apps later...
You'll find below the version I'm using.
If anyone has the stock 2.3 mail app, and that it is better, well I wouldn't say no...

I don't think having a custom rom is the culprit as I've got HTC Stock Rom on a debranded but unrooted DHD, and I've got the same issue.
By the way, as I said earlier, I have been trying out Moxier mail and it does not seem to have this syncing problem....BUT-it's a bit expensive and overkill for my needs really.

Big thanks for the APK, Samsenteur!
I have the same problem on a unbranded DHD after the Gingerbread update.
Has anyone sorted out a fix for this?
Does installing the 2.2 mail app solve the problem?

Of course not!
But you'll have another mail app that will work with hotmail push.

After a lot of messing about I firstly discovered that after a short while using Moxier Male, the problem returned. However Touchdown works perfectly. Unfotunately this is a rather pricey cure for the problem. I think the reason Touchdown works for Push mail is something to do with the fact that there is an option in the Touchdown settings, to only delete emails from the phone rather than the server. Having this ticked I have had no problems at all with the constant syncing issue. As for why this should make a difference...I'm afraid someone with more technical knowledge would have to try and answer that!
I'm having the same problem with this. Anybody find a solution? Not keen on the gmail app.
GB has proven to be a flakey update for me. Lots of stuff worse than Froyo (for me).
Has anyone found a fix for this yet?
I have a HTC Desire (not desire HD) and have just changed to a gingerbread rom and now have the constant sync problem with push mail. I did not have this when i was using froyo...
same problem
Same here with DHD on 2.3.3 (stock). No fix yet, I assume...

why install the 2.2 htc mail app then and use it if it doesnt solve the problem (resending the deleted items and push issues) ??
i restored a froyo build of one of the roms i use and mail htc mail was working flawlessly (imap/pop3 and hotmail activesync).
the problem seems to be in gingerbread.
anyway to get over this? ideas ?
thx.
It seems you don't understand me :
-Installing the Android mail stock app doesn't solve the problem in HTC MAIL. (of course)
But it allows you to use a mail app that does work correctly with hotmail AES. (we don't want imap/pop, do we?). I don't have any push issue with Android stock mail. It works perfectly. My only concern is that there's no html rendering.
Touchdown is able to push mail with Hotmail AES and provide html rendering, but the app is expensive, I personnaly find the interface heavy, and it only supports one AES account at the same time (I have 3).
- I had the same exact issues on Froyo. And this is why I was already using the Android stock mail app.
Well I don't know what ROM/s you were using on Froyo that had constant syncing problems with the stock HTC email app. I've never had any problems on Froyo whilst running Leedroid, ARHD or Coredroid.
The only time I have ever encountered or even heard of this problem was on Gingerbread.
I've just gone back to Leedroid 2.2.3 Froyo & this problem doesn't exist on that ROM.
I don't see any benefit to using Gingerbread on the DHD (without Sense 3), it seems like HTC have gone backwards to be fair...
I was using the native htc Froyo ROM.
Sync was looping on first message when using push in Hotmail (no pb with other accounts, and no pb with pop/imap). As I've seen in XDA, I was far from beeing the only one to have this issue... You can find many threads in this forum.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with google stock mail app, so I no more use the htc's one.
Ah that must be why I've never come across it on Froyo, as I use Gmail & not Hotmail.
Do remember hearing of some people having problems with Hotmail on Froyo but never with Gmail. Think the Gmail problems are limited to Gingerbread.
