Tilt2 outside USA, cannot tether or use IE or Opera! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Does anyone know how to get around the AT&T "blocks" so that I would be able to use the Tilt2 in another country? I am using a local SIM. Email on the device works fine with this but Opera or IE or tethering cannot connect.
I would really appreciate it if someone had some advice about this.

You have to program the data connection for your local sim card. You should ask the carrier for settings

yes, that is correct. But I think I did that properly because I am able to send/receive email.
I found a cab in a thread about tethering in this and it worked great. Now I can tether with the laptop.
However I can't load any page on either IE or Opera on the phone. So I am looking for some advice or registry edit that can solve this.
thanks.

Making an M2000 happy on Vodafone

Hi guys,
I really hope you can help me here. I have an M2000 which I have unlocked and am running with a VF SIM. All good - calls and SMS working fine. WiFi works fine.
What DOESN'T work fine is connecting to the internet, running msn etc. I have searched multiple sites, changed my settings to what people seem to suggest, and it says that it is trying to connect to Vodafone Internet, GPRS, yet always have the following message display:-
Dialed: Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documenatation and try again

I am wanting to set-up Goodlink (through work) to receive emails, and if I cannot sort this out, then I'm stuck. I can only use msn or connect through grabbing onto a Wireless area through WiFiFoFum.
Could anyone please take a second to tell me what I need to do?
Do I just need to install something?
Have I got some Orange files hidden away somewhere causing it to get confused?
Please help - getting desperate.
Your account might not have access to the internet APN.
Call customer services and get the "intenet" added to your account.

All those still having problems with WLM

After extensive serching through the forum and the Wiki i was stumped as to why WLM was failing to sync.
all i could find were people asking if anyone new what the problem was and a whole load of replies that suggested they serched for the answer. The problem being there isn't (as far as i can tell) an actual answer to this issue.
This was my issue.
I upgraded to the newest version of LVSW and i couldn't get WLM to sync, it kept on saying that there was a problem with the service or i have not got good enough reception. this was incorrect as could use IE without a problem.
Many people said that this was because the Beta had expired..which it of course had, so i tried all the new versions, stand alone that LVSW posted with his new ROM, Tried BE 2.0 with the built in version. all with the same result. NOTHING!!!
Now i have found the problem i had and i hope that it will help with others problems
I used to put in my GPRS settings manually, but i decided to download a .cab file with the T-Mobile UK settings. and this was the problem. it was adding a proxy to the connection.
To rectify the situation i deleted the connection and put it back manually with the Following Settings.
Connection Name : T-Mobile GPRS
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
User: user
Password: one2one
and nothing else. (these are the only setting T-mobile CS gave me)
I now have a working copy of the new Messenger (No contact duplication) on my Vario II.
I hope this rather long winded post will be of help to some of you on the forum.

Yes I found this also. I kept getting the Out of range error message.
However, it's fine to have a proxy on Orange UK and is actually required for the 3G connection. The problem I had was with Active Sync - it kept adding my corporate proxy server name to the GPRS settings. Removing them allowed WLM to connect first time!

Eh? Are you sure? Seems plenty of people on here using Orange without a proxy set....
Just wondering, as I had been having problems, but not now, and I do have a proxy set, but ONLY in the WAP connection, not Orange Internet connection. Hmmm....

There were problems with the first t-mob uk cab posted, but someone put up a fixed version later on that I use without issues. Look about half way through in the UK operator cabs thread.
T-mob apparently use a transparent proxy, so no settings required.

Before upgrading a rom....

All, this is a question that I am sure must have been asked before, but I can't construct a search that allows me to find an answer :-(.
I like to update the ROM periodically because I do have some strange behaviors every now and again. As I read Ricky's list of fixes, I see some of my issues being resolved.
However, each time I apply a ROM update, everything not on the SIM card gets wiped out. That's no biggie for me with the data, everything I need there is on a PC somewhere anyway. It's the t-mobile settings that are a pain. I have made a notre of what they all are, but it would be really nice to be able to simply apply those settings. I would think the easiest thing to do would be to back them up somewhere - somewhere that isn't going to get trashed during the ROM upgrade and then reapply them.
The trouble is I can't find a way to back them up and restore, nor to persist them somewhere on the device, so I end up retyping them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Chris
It would really help us out if you tell us what you are trying to backup, what kind of information, data, so on.
I am needing to back up all the t-mobile connection settings. These settings are accessed under connections and are in gprs, proxy and vpn. They have names like T-Mobile Proxy, T-Mobile Data and T-Zones GPRS.
Thanks in advance

I can't speak about Kavanas ROM but I do know that Ricky's has a program called "connection setup" where you can select your country and carrier and the settings get applied automatically.
kavanas has it also
Thanks. Testing it now

Tilt 2 ATT Wifi Cab, MediaMall Cab, and Opera Proxy

I'm having some problems getting the ATT Wifi and Media Mall cabs after flashing to the latest energy rom.
I think this might be solved if someone can post their stock opera:config settings for proxy. That way I could download the cabs from att through opera.
Any ideas?
[Proxy]
Use Proxy On Local Names Check=1
HTTP Server=wireless.cingular.com
HTTPS server=wireless.cingular.com
Use HTTP=1
Use HTTPS=1
Enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy=1
Added this to my proxy settings (Opera:config in address bar or \windows\opera\opera.ini)
Was able to go to device.home in my browser and navigate to the MediaMall site and then got the cab from there (search wi-fi).
I'm running the WWE ROM on a Tilt 2;
I was able to set the proxy, and browse the medianet page. I ended up going to the regular att website since searching the mobile medianet page didnt get me anything, and have it send me a sms for the wifi download. When I follow the link on the device, the medianet page complains that I do not have a supported device and won;t let me download it.
Is there some medianet component that has to be installed, or do I need to change opera's user agent string? Or is there another link to the wifi app?
Try navigating to http://device.home and if the mobile friendly medialnet site pops up your proxy settings are good. then find the mobile medianet site and search wifi.

I am getting to the mobile medianet site, but searching either in the medianet search, or the mediamall search, i get "no results for your handset" (searching wifi wi-fi wi fi etc.) , similar to the "your device is not supported" message when I use the direct link to the install.
I'm still thinking i need to change my user agent string currently its this;
HTC_Touch_Pro2_T7373 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
anyone know what the stock tilt2 uses? I didn't think to check before i flashed.
It was the UA. Found the string on the ATT devcentral site;
seems huge, but when I changed the custom string in opera to this the download/mediamall access worked;
HTC-ST7377/1.14.502.12 (50433) Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) UP.Link/6.3.1.20.06.3.1.20.0
Attached the WiFi client cab. It added some pre-configured wireless networks in the wireless setup, not sure what else its doing for authentication.
ATT Wi-fi cab
I installed the ATT wi-fi cab on my Tilt 2 running the stock ROM, but when I try to run the program in doesn't open. The program shows up in the list of installed programs and in Program Files/Wi Fi Client. Tried a soft reset, but still not working. Any help is appreciated.
uh im a noob but what would be the benefits of using/having a opera proxy
and is the mediamall like a appstore from att?
and what does the att wifi cab do

I haven't been able to get the wifi client working. It just instructs me to turn on my wifi in comm manager and gives me the opportunity to search for locations. Unfortunately, I still was hit by the starbucks wifi login page when I tried.

It seems the tilt 2 ships with 2 different proxy settings out of the box. 1 is a hidden proxy setting in the registry, the other is set in your opera settings. This basically instructs the device to view the internet via ATTs system (basic explanation). You need to do this to access Cellular Video/MediaNet, but otherwise it is usually better to circumvent the proxy.
Right, MediaMall is an ATT appstore filled with java based apps.
ATT Wifi cab supposedly lets you use WiFI for free wherever ATT Wifi is offered (Starbucks/McDonalds/airports).
ATT Wifi
I actually was able to use the ATT wifi at the local Starbucks today. I just turned on my wifi and it picked up the ATT network. I noticed that the ATT Wifi client had added some networks to the list, I guess that did the trick.
Does anyone have the att wifi .cab or know where it is located?

Only if you pay ATT for the wifi service. If you use the MediaNet $15/month package I dont think it will work. I think the Wifi and 3G package starts around $39.

I think the exact requirement is the 30 dollar a month data plan and a newer Windows Mobile device. Any Tilt 2 owner theoretically meets this due to the forced data plan requirement.

I pay $10 for family data unlimited which is usually called $15 for MediaNet unlimited but if you have txt plan it is only $10. This is the plans for non-smartphones on ATT.
I would rather save the monthly fee and not use crappy att wifi. This new att wifi is a way to try to lessen the load on 3G network since they suck. A little while ago the ATT wifi was $69 a month with 3G combo. They added the wifi to the standard package for smartphones in an attempt to get people to use the wifi when available but unless you need a lot of bandwidth (torrents) then the 3G should support the user needs without having us manually look and turn on wifi just to help them out.

I flashed the ENERGY ROM and now don't have MediaMall. Does anyone have a cab or thread to download? I'm also missing the BoardGames that came in the bloatware.
Thanks in case and in advance!

Do you have any clue what this hidden proxy in the registry is? How do I set it so I can use the media mall. I've set everything in Opera and can get to the media mall but all I get for anything is a message saying "no results for your handset." I went to the Media Mall on line (desktop) and found what I was looking for but when I tried the download via a text message they sent it tells me my device isn't supported
Anyone have a clue?

Go to Start -> Tools -> Proxy Manager
There are cab files there to enable and disable the hidden proxy.

[Q] tilt II - internet sharing error APN

Please i have been trying to do internet sharing..., but always i get the same message.Error APN..., someone who can help please!!!!! (step by step.....'cause I'm like the Flintstones with the phones!!!!!!!))
Try a different apn. Tombile has a few, don't know what your carrier is but if tmobile you can use wap.voicestream.com, internet2.voicestream.com, internet3.voicestream.com
master pda dude said:
The reason you are getting the error is because AT&T (I'm assuming you have AT&T because you said it's a Tilt 2) locks the Internet Sharing program to use a different network than what the phone itself uses. They do that to make you purchase a very expensive plan to use internet sharing with a computer or other device. To get around this you will need to install a registry editor, find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings and delete the value "ForceCellConnection"
You should then be able to select a different network in the Internet Sharing program. Select MEdia Net (the network your phone uses). The other network is AT&T's ISP network which only works if you have the plan, which you won't need after this.
Or you can install the attached fix, which I'm not promising it will work because AT&T adds a strict installation security protocol.

How can I access the registry on the phone? Or, is it only on the computer? How can I get the phone to use a wifi? I'm trying to use in an area that wifi is only available on phones and not laptops. So, I'm trying to use my phone to connect to the internet with my laptop. But, I keep getting the same error "Error APN." Thanks.

It sounds like he's trying to connect to a mobile hotspot or something from his laptop.... wait.... no, maybe he's trying to connect through his laptop... hold on.... I give up, I have no idea what he's asking.
Thanks Master PDA Dude!
That *.cab did the trick. I had mod'ed my old ROM with the regedit, but the cab was even easier.
