Hi upon hearing (and hoping) 2.2 in 3 days, I've decided to stick with sense.
I have a few niggles, and I was hoping you guys could help.
1. Push. can I get push twitter and facebook notifications through the widget? is there a secret setting?
2. Speed. I don't expect sense to be as fast as stock android, but are there any tips to ease the pain.
3. Other tips?
thanks in advance
I'm pretty sure the 2.2 update will also be Sense.

OP seems to be suggesting in his first sentence that Froyo will relieve him of his frustrations with Sense.
To answers the questions:
1. The widget updates as frequently as the main application updates. As such, you can't get push Twitter updates. The most frequent updating schedule would be every 5 minutes. Not sure for Facebook since I don't use it, but I would expect it to be the same.
If you want to have your Twitter feeds pushed to you, why not set it to send to your phone as SMS? (Btw, higher update frequencies will ruin your battery life)
2. You'll need to be more specific. Which part of UI is slow in your opinion?
3. If you're fed up with Sense, just use an alternate launcher. LauncherPro is pretty good. Only reason I don't use it is because I don't want to lose my HTC widgets.
Sense isn't slow at all, especially if you're using a Desire. Maybe if you had a MyTouch or something it might be.
Pretty sure Sense in 2.2 isn't gonna be too different from how it is in 2.1 so if you hate it in 2.1 you'll probably hate it in 2.2.
Thanks, about the notifications thing, I removed some junk (stocks, teeter) and it feels much more fresh now. Thanks.

Sorry for the NOOB question, but does anyone know if it is possible to install any of the HTC Sense apps on top of CyanogenMod 6?
I love the CyanogenMod ROM's, but there are also some things I like about HTC Sense too. In an ideal world, I'd like the following:
- CyanogenMod 6
- HTC Sense E-mail App
- HTC Sense Widgets
- AOSP Standard everywhere else... Contacts, SMS, etc.
Is this possible?
No impossible but you can find similar apps for each
Short and to the point answer is....
Nope, if you want sense, then run a sense rom. But you can use google to maybe find other applications that can mimick what you want to accomplish.

Yes, I'm using Fancy Widget which is one of the most important... I just wish there was something like the Sense e-mail app. The AOSP e-mail app, isn't as user friendly... I've looked online and tried K9 (no good for Exchange, which is what I'm using) and Touchdown (doesn't integrate well with the rest of the UI)
Do you know if any of the Sense Froyo ROM's are supporting multiple exchange accounts yet? I know Cyanogen's does, but it's not Sense
No. Most HTC apps require the framework from a sense based rom. And the HTC widgets only work with Sense.
For future reference, questions like this should be posted in the general or apps forums, or if you really need to post it in the development section at least ask the question in the appropriate rom's thread. Not trying to be an a$$ but thought I would throw that out there before anyone jumped all over you.
Did this really just get asked? again?
Q&A sounds like theright place to post this.
As other have already stated, try the market place for similar apps.
Cyanogen is open source so asking for sense apps is like asking for a pair shackles to go with your get out jail free card.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
And i quote from the man himself......
"THIS IS NOT HTC SENSE AND NEVER WILL BE. DO NOT ASK ABOUT IT IN THIS THREAD. THANK YOU."
if you know anything about cyanogen, which you should since you are using his rom he will never ever ever ever ever use anything but stock android thats one of the reasons that his roms are the best, plus he is the pioneer for android customization!!!
i dont believe the OP was asking for sense to be integrated into CM, just if htc widgets would still work, and if not for good replacements. Not everyone knows that they need the sense framework to function.
Some have been ported over.
Search around.
Other's generally don;'t work. Sprint apps work regardless of framework.
Yeah, I can understand where the OP's coming from. I love the CM ROMs, but there's a couple parts of Sense that I wish I could install piecemeal on top of it.
It would be ridiculous to imply that Cyanogen should ever incorporate them into his ROM since the lack of proprietary crap is his biggest attraction, but at the end of the day I still miss that stupid HTC weather widget.

Hello Guys,
I had a quick question. Currently, I am on the 2.1, Update 2 release on my EVO, but am thinking about getting the official updates for Froyo, that HTC released. Now, everything made sense, until I realized that there is a very critical app that I use on my phone which does not work on 2.2 yet, so I have decided to maybe hold off on the upgrade.
In the meanwhile, however, I was wondering, for those who updated to the 2.2 Official ROMs or custom ROMs built off of the official 2.2 updates, did you guys notice any updates or fixes from HTC on the Sense side of things?
For example, with 2.1, there is a known Sense issue, where the Facebook contact pictures don't automatically update for contacts, with assigned FB Profiles through HTC Facebook for Sense. For some of those coming from the WM world, that feature even exists on the Sense 2.1/2.5 on WM, where if you sync, the LASTEST contact pic is automatically downloaded and assigned to the contact on the phone.
I am sure there were other problems with Sense as well that shipped with out EVOs.
So my question is:
Can someone or does anyone know of a list of fixes/updates that HTC made on the Sense side of things, with the updates that shipped with Froyo? If so, can you list them here and confirm that they are working now?
Thanks to everyone is advance who responds, and thank you for reading!
Here's the one's off the top of my head:
Sense Launcher is smoother.
Messages app got a new widget and the text area is bigger. Also, you can easily attach attachments to your message by hitting a small attachments button right under the send button. Cool menu too.
Camera buttons rotate all four directions to make it easier to work with in any direction.
New set of calculator widgets in 5 colors. A couple other new and updated widgets too, I believe.
Calendar display's your facebook birthdays.
Alarm volume is more accessible. Never had a problem with it, but now there's at least three ways to change its volume.
I think that's about it for Sense. Settings got moved around a little and of course are a little different than stock, but mostly the same. One thing that kind of pisses me off is the cloud backup setting isn't in this version of Sense, which sucks because my settings are the only thing I can't back up too well. I was looking forward to that in Froyo, but HTC stripped it out for the time being. Weird part is the old development builds of the Evo's Rom had a similar feature, back in 2.1. They took it out and haven't put it back in after Froyo. Anyways, hope that helps. There is a small bug in HTC's calendar that makes it impossible to edit calendar events if you have a note in them, at least without overwriting that note with some other data.
Thanks a lot for your response superlinkx!
It is a shame what you said about the cloud backup, but hopefully they get their acts together and add it in the later releases.
Can you do me a favor and confirm that the Facebook contact pic issue still persists in the Froyo release of Sense? I described that issue in my previous post. I appreciate your help, thank you Sir!
Looking forward to your response.
Ok so update went well...so I think. Had to reinstall Swype due to it not functioning. My current issue is using Friendstream or attempting to add twitter by using the Accounts & Sync gives a login and invalid account error. I'm not typing anything wrong because I have it set to show password, and can login through web /sesmic app / twitter app with no issues. This is simply some type of functionality issue so I'm curious if anyone has suggestions before I do rollback to stock .
So question is again...anyone else having friendstream /Acct & Sync adding of twitter acct using Twitter by Htc sense. Been trying for over 5 hours to get it to work before posting this thread. Would hate to lose Froyo over this, but it happens right. Sigh, thanks for reading this an any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
I am having the same issue and I have been running froyo roms for months with no issues and all of a sudden I couldn't log on today with any Rom
incredible with Virtuous 2.0 and kings 3
The Sense widgets that touch twitter aren't compatible with Twitter's OAuth based logon implemented Sept 1.
Friendstream and Twitter for HTC Sense are definitely broken, and I believe Peep is as well, though I've not used that one. Twitter repeatedly announced the upcoming change starting December '09). One user at HTC.com forums pasted a support reply from HTC indicating that HTC's stance is that Twitter must change their logon system, but I think that is a case of the tail wagging the dog (imo).
Either way, the workaround is to use a client or widget that has been updated to support the change. Most of them have been updated already. Except HTC's own.
HTC and Twitter have both said a fix is in the works and should be implemented soon. HTC made it sound like any minute now, while Twitter was a little more hesitant.

I hadn't read that. I'll look for it though. What I did read was:
<snip> However, HTC has no control over this issue. Twitter will need to release an update for the application or create a new application with the correct settings. <snip>

Having some other random issues, so does anyone know of a guide for simply way to get back my phone back to stock 2.1? I see a few post saying I need to root and download these roms and sadly I don't feel comfortable with that. Just hearing people who took the update.zip route might be screwed for future OTA updates, and dealing with phone isues to verizon if you didn't get the actual OTA update.
Thanks again for the great responses and letting me know I'm not crazy and it's a known issue with new twitter security features for oauth.

This would be great, especially if it can be done without losing settings and apps, like how easy it was to upgrade to the leaked froyo.
Well im currenting trying to get off the sense.
but i just cant live without having to sync my contacts with facebook, and i just hate having the vanilla messaging. its horrible to me,and im guessing i need the dial for the contacts.
so please anyone for a christmas, make someone happy=]
im currently trying to go to frost 3.1.1 i know its an older rom,
but it gave me amazing battery life so please can you guys send me the .zip file so i can just flash it over the rom=D
have a Merry Christmas
You can't use Sense applications or widgets without using Sense to my knowledge (I know widgets for a fact, and I'm fairly certain about the applications as well). Sorry

Hi guys!
I have had a HTC M8 for over 2 years and have loved it very much. I didn't like sense very much so I put the google play edition ROM on there so that it was just running stock android and it became my dream phone. I decided to upgrade to the HTC 10, but sense is driving me insane again (although it is much better) i do just want to go back to stock android again. There's no GPE version of this phone, is there still a way that I can go to stock android on my HTC 10?
Thanks in advance
Brad
Great question, and I wish there was an option, in some settings somewhere to just reboot into stock Android, but sadly nothing like that.
Only option is to wait for CM13 ROM's to come out this Summer to get away from Sense
There will be non-sense ROM's out soon.
Btw, if you just replace the launcher to something like Nova or whatever you like, Sense is basically not even there anymore.

Thank you for your reply Glad it wasn't a stupid question.
So Cyanogen Mod is effectively just stock android? Or will there be subtle differences between that and the Google Play Edition ROM that I'm used to?

Yes I did install the Google Now launcher, and it has definitely helped, but there are still some little things about Sense that are driving me crazy. Little things... I just have minor OCD... I hate HTC's lockscreen clock, I don't have my location services on all the time, so the lockscreen clock gives me a "weather unavaliable" error 24/7. I don't even want weather on my lockscreen. And also it drives me crazy that I can't install Google's phone app, that is way better than HTC's. And also I can't uninstall Instagram, and Facebook etc, apps that I don't even use!
I know these things probably seem silly to most people but they're really annoying to me, hence why I want to go back to lovely stock Android! Do you know if I could achieve what I want simply by rooting my phone? Or would flashing a new ROM be the only way?

Try Nova, honestly it makes GPL seem silly. As for the lockscreen widget, I'm trying to get rid of that myself so let me know if you figure it out :silly:
The unwanted apps like facebook/insta have been disabled on my phone so they don't run background services and I have used nova to hide the icons. They may as well not exist on the phone but unfortunately I can't remove them completely..at least not without root, which leads to my next point...
You can achieve most of the things you want (removing system apps etc.) with root. Short of wanting additional features (even this can be done via xposed to be honest) baked into the OS or wanting a pure stock experience, you can achieve what you need with root. However, I won't go into all the details with the issues with unlocking your BL and rooting and doing S-Off etc.

That's not stock Android, it's just a debloated Sense ROM.
To the OP, CyanogenMod is close to stock. Think of it as stock Android with tweaks and additional customization.
so you have an working cm Image?!
just share with tue community
I d said a "clean version of stock rom".
did not say that is gpe or aosp..
just want to help.
Sense is bloatware? okay, nice to know

I feel the same way about the HTC sense interface.
What I did was install the Google Now launcher so that took care of part 1.
Then I side loaded the google dialer ver 2.5.11 rc8-20511
Then I side loaded the google contacts
Then I installed from the play store google Messager and Google calendar and Google Clock.
I then turn off blink feed and now the phone is 99% like stock android!
I also installed Chrooma keyboard or you can go with swift key!
Hope this helps you cause now I'm loving the phone!

It looks like a great option! I tried it yesterday, but I have one (yet) issue, phone is not ringing, when incoming call... I gave it all permisions I could, but no sound and no vibrations, just on display
I installed Google dialer 7.0.140861421-nonnexus from apkmirror.com.
I found this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/stock-google-dialer-ringing-loudspeaker-t3373657/page4
but there isn't any working solution as I know. Maybe something with root permisions is working?
I will try later and older versions of dialer, but I'm afraid there isn't any working, when noone here get it done...
I would suggest you to try resurrection remix ROM. I think it's the best AOSP ROM out there. Just like you, I have a minor OCD and hate the sense lockscreen, dialer and everything. Gets boring after some days.
I installed Lineage OS yesterday night, and now I'm testing it. So with open Gapps it bring me what I wanted! This ROM looks nice.
I don't think HTC sense is boring, it's just tragic...

How is lineage at the moment, many significant bugs? Since there's no stable version yet, you are using the nightly, right? Since they release one new version every week, how does the updating process work? It's like and OTA update?
Cheers

It is very stable and one of the best performing ROMs right now, although I had stutter issues few months ago. It's pretty much gone in the newer versions. I'm using this as my DD and I haven't had a single bug till now. The updating process is just like stock. There's updates tab in about where you can see the available nightly. You can download it and will be flashed automatically in the recovery. Just make sure you have the latest version of twrp installed.
Badelhas:
As you say, it's nightly, I didn't really noticed it much, because there weren't any more stable, than this nightly But I read here on the main LineageOS topic, that there aren't any major bugs, so I tried it.
There are some (important) features (rather than bugs) not running - you cannot use home button to wake up phone like on stock ROM (without fingerprint). So you have to use phone as Nexus f.e.
One night, i had about 50% battery and fell asleep, than get up before morning and discovered, that phone is very HOT and without energy! I think I read about this bug somewhere, but don't remember where. Anyway it happened only once and I installed an update from that time.
I didn't know how it goes, because immediately after first install of this ROM it offered me an update, but failed every time before download completed. So I waited some time and finally this week downloaded latest version via update notification, did backup for sure and then installed it. It switch off and then boot into TWRP and did installation, everything alone without any interaction needed.
Then booted (quiet long for the first time) and that's all.
Maybe there is something more, I will let you know, when I remember.
