Any one else having trouble with HDMI re-booting? Every time I plug in my hdmi cable to my tv the phone freezes and then reboots, tried stock rom and rooted damagecontrol rom both with the same issue...
No real experience here myself, but from what I've read some TVs work better than others, and some have a problem handshaking with the TV. Have you tried it on a different TV/monitor?

same issue here, plug in and phone freezes. have to remove the battery to reset.. pretty disheartening
It's the tv, I've went through the same thing, it works fine on my TVs at home but at my mom and my sisters houses it did not work, they both have the same TVs it freezes and reboot the phone.
well that sucks. hoping I wouldn't encounter MORE reasons to return this thing

Hahaha. Yeah, it's stupid. But to be fair a cheaper TV is a lot more likely to incorrectly implement the HDMI spec. Your Bluray player or Xbox might be able to deal with this, but I just don't think a mobile device has the hardware to compensate.

hi.
i just got a MHL cable for my SGS2
when i plugged it to my tv, it cuts of the wifi and the phone signal... so i can't receive calls or surf the internet ...
i tried two different phones with different roms and different kernels and got the same result...
anyone had this problem and knows how to use MHL and have WIFI and phone signal?
thanks
What cable? Samsung's or generic?
Have you tried this on stock unrooted or rooted firmware?

i tried custom roms...
one of them is 2.3.5 and the other one is 2.3.4
the two devices are rooted
I have the OEM Samsung adapter and it used to make my phone do the same thing. I sold the phone ans ended up buying another one and the second phone works perfect with it.
I am running the leomar75 rom with the ragemod 1.1b kernel
so you say this is a problem with the device itself?
I also have a generic adapter but mine works for a few seconds and then blank.....not supported. sometimes it gives green screen on my tv. I've tried on stock and custom roms. If it's the phone than it should be addressed t Samsung.
update:
I have to put my phone in offline mode to be able to use it.....
i tried the same cable on other tv...
on the other tv the phone signal stayed on (and i even received a call without any problem) but i still had no WIFI...
maybe its important, but i tried the other tv away from home..
at my home the phone signal is weak all the time
i have a stock phone w/ generic POWERED mhl cable and the wifi cuts off when plugged in. wth?
still no fix for this issue?? i just got a MHL cable yesterday and is really annoying
I called samsung and they said that it is designed to cut off wifi. it may look like u r still connected, but u will be unable to surf the net. they said the reason this was done was to prevent fickering of the video if you were browsing the net or something.
so ,there's no hope than MHL work with wifi?

dont ask me. call samsung. just telling u what they told me. the way it is designed wifi is shut off when mhl cables are used.
would be interesting to see if anyone got wifi to work w/ mhl plugged in.

I have had WIFI working with MHL connected for months. I've could surf the web AND stream flash videos in a room with GPRS coverage ONLY (which rules out the "you were surfing through packet data" variable) while connected to my Samsung HD plasma with no problems.
So I certainly have no idea what your Sammy rep was talking about.
BTW, I'm using the official, korean spec MHL cables I got from ExportPrive. But I'm positive it should work the same with the international MHL cables.
Bought a non Samsung MHL cable today and it worked perfectly fine, it even worked when providing power via a microUSB cable connected from a spare USB socket in my nearby router.

Rom/kernel issue?
I'm using a Nokia AC10X (1200ma charger) + original MHL cable + Siyah 2.1rc2 (at that time, now running 2.1.1) + VR2.4.2 (don't ask) = no connection issues what so ever while in HDMI out.
Either that or it's a hardware problem with the cable or your phone.

I love kindle fire! best tablet $200 ! love LCD screen 1024x600 IPS!!!
But .. need to put an external keyboard to use in college in order to enter text! future can be no such enhancement like the ipad have?
Not yet. The best option is likely based on activating the bluetooth capability that appears to be on the motherboard. Developers are looking at that but are focusing on the ICS alpha.

I have a Galaxy S2, which does support my bluetooth keyboard.
Could I use wifi keyboard with the phone and the kindle fire, type on the phone via bluetooth, then wifikeyboard copies it to the kindle fire?
Ive a BT keyboard on the way, so I will test it!
It has been stated multiple times in the dev forum that there is no Bluetooth in the fire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430473&page=3 from post 23 down.
Hashcode did mention the possibility of adding 3rd party USB Bluetooth support to 3.0 once it is stable.

Yes, I never said I was going to use bluetooth.
The bluetooth keyboard connects to my samsung galaxy s2.
I run wifikeyboard on the kindle fire and galaxy s2.
I type with the bluetooth keyboard, it copies onto the galaxy, then appears on the fire.
Its a long way round, but at least I can use an external device when I need to do a lot of typing.

Just use OTG cable
Just do what I did: buy an OTG usb cable from amazon and then use Hashcode's latest 3.0 kernel. It will work like a charm!

Actually I believe USB 2.0 not supported at this time as it requires too much power. But any regular USB keyboard should work provided you use an OTG adapter. Also flash drives and such should work as well on hash's kernel!

(if that link doesn't come out, just looky at post 699 of his kernal thread)
I just ordered an OTG cable from Amazon
... being shipped from China ... might be a while.
Might not even work, then I'm gonna get a keyboard, possibly
HDE 7" Tablet Stand with USB Keyboard - Black Faux Leather Carrying Case by PingTab ... from Amazon.
might work, or not. the powered hub seems like a novel idea, seeing as the KF will drain battery quick without a powered hub. I could mod a single in/out hub, but I don't fabricate much, so it'll be messy and kill time. murder. anyone know about one of these powered hubs for a single device already made up? hmmm

I am using that keyboard to type this, it works great. A powered hub is not necessary, just a cheap ~$4 OTG cable. I plugged it in on boot and had no issues. I have only had the case/keyboard for an hour now. I'll report back with any issues if any pop up.

Yea I like that case. I got a good question. Is there an OTG cable that would let me also keep charging the kindle. Basicly Male Micro USB to Female USB and Female Micro USB.
Does anyone one know to install the kernal? I cant find a tutorial
Just install Hashcode's latest ROM. It has the latest kernel.

SEJ: I would love to do the same, I assume this is still working for you?
A couple of other questions. Have you rooted the operating system or are you using the original Kindle Fire OS? Did you need to install a kernal to get it to work? In reading consumer comments from kindle owners on the Amazon.com webpage, it sounds like this keyboard did not work for many people; but I'm wondering if you had to do something different on the software side (or were they all not bright enough to buy the OTG cable )?
Thanks!

I have this keyboard too.
You do have to be rooted with a custom ROM and Kernel. Just root with the latest Kindle Fire Utility and it will install the latest TWRP Recovery. Then just flash(what I recommend) Hashcode's latest ROM because it has his latest Kernel with OTG support. In other words the keyboard will work.
Make sure you buy an OTG cable by the way...
Hi all, ive gave up on the slim chance that there might be a BT chip inside the kindle fire 2. With the release of custom ROMs on our device, is it now possible to get bluetooth working via otg cable? I have a micro BT usb an was wanting to use it for ps3 compatibility so i can play ps1 roms etc wirelessly. I know you can connect a 360 controller cablde to the kindle but imn looking for wireless connectivity.

I wasn't going to answer because I'm not a dev....but was curious so looked up some stuff.
From what I can see....I can't find anyone doing that, ever. Yet I see a LOT of people saying "No, not possible unless you get a custom ROM" yet....I haven't found anyone that has actually done this!
Not sure why, although since we have devs I will be curious to see their response. No idea why I can't find a SINGLE post of anyone doing it, yet I also haven't seen anyone that has flat out said no, only that you will need a custom ROM.
If we do get it working, it would probably be one of the first times someone has done bluetooth via OTG. If you can find anyone that has done it before though, that may help out.

well my plan was to buy a usb dongle, cheap ofcourse, put an external power supply, i.e 5v supply if i cant get one. for talking sakes lets say i use a battery ( i know voltage etc are not same as 5v supplied by normal usb ports) hook red + on battery, black to negative on the battery and add a switch so i can switch it on and off, so the only thing i would then need to take would be the data coming from the kindle itself. From what i can gather cm10 has bluetooth dongle support, if so then it would just be a case of an app looking at usb instead of internal bluetooth. Please correct me if i am wrong ( which i am pretty sure i am ). This is one feature which has let the kf2 down for me. All the others i can live with, even if i only had stock rom and it had bluettoth connectivity, it would be better for me. I hate having ideas but not being able to do anything about it so any advice, tips or reasons as to why it will not work is all good
While im on, does anyone have a kf2 with custom rom, a powered usb hub, an otg cable, a bluetooth dongle and a spare ten mins to check if the dongle is recognised by the kf?

Sorry to revive this, but I have a kindle fire 2, rooted with the official cyanogenmod jellybean. I'm later going to order a bluetooth dongle and I already have a powered hub. Being a college student I have a lot of spare time to this sorta thing. I'll check back later if there are replies or if i have done it and have results.
EDIT:
Although some people on this thread have already said that bluetooth doesn't work without a powered hub, you can find videos demonstrating it without a powered hub. I'll also test this later.
Cm10 + otg + bt dongle = works!
I recently about an Onda V973 specifically so that I can load CM onto it but was disappointed that BT wasn't built-in. So I got an OTG cable and a cheap dongle. At first the connection didn't work but after a reboot CM was able to load the drivers for the dongle. Works great! :good:
I am 99% sure Kindle Fire does not have a bluetooth chip. I tried it myself on CM10.2, 10.1, and it doesn't activate. The modem does not have this feature.
It would be interesting to try and mod the tablet that way, though.
Hi there, I bought an MHL cable from Ebay and was trying to connect the phone with TV. I have connected the power cord and did all the setup as required. The phone was charging, but the TV was just showing 'No Signal' as it was not detecting the phone. The adapter looks like a Chinese import at 8$. I tried many suggestion as people have posted here including the connection order of TV, Phone etc and but with no luck. Can someone please help me out here? GNexus is not officially launched in India, but S2 is. So do you think buying the original Samsung S2 adapter will work for Nexus? Thanks in advance!
I have no luck with MHL on this phone. Broken on 99% if not 100% of custom ROM and kernels. Every time I sought support for it I was just told to "use stock ROM and kernel"
Even on doing that my screen glitches and boom. Reboot. Bootloops until I unplug it. I wish you good luck and if you figure out how to get it working, shoot me a pm

Hello everyone.
I recently purchased the lg g pad and I'm very satisfied with it, although I encountered this annoying issue...
yesterday I decided to get a USB OTG adapter so I could play games with my official xbox 360 controller, specially GTA series and emulators. But, for my surprise, it didn't quite work as I expected, with random button pressing and blinking xbox logo button all the time. It was impossible to play :/
I already tested both the cable and my controller on my friends motorola xoom and worked quite well with GTA vice city.
I would like to know if anyone has ever had this issue or if my tablet may be defective and I need to replace it.
By the way, I tried to use the cable to open a pen drive on the g pad and it worked flawlessly. I got official 4.4.2 stock ROM installed via OTA, unrooted and factory locked.
Thanks for your support
Im running mahdi rom and dont have your issue when running my wired 360 or knock off ps3 controller. Does it happen after a fixed time, i never play for more than 10-15 min.
