Battery Died Over Night? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

I started with 80% on Windows Mobile, launched Android, and slept with it sleeping on Android.
I had it under my pillow and I did notice that the phone was hot whenever I picked it up (After an hourish)
In the morning when I wake up the phone is dead.
Any explanation? The phone's backlight was fully off and the phone was locked. Normally on Windows Mobile 80% battery can last me two full days before I need to charge again.
I thought the full sleep was completed on the Android?
Also it shows that it's charging even after I unplug it? I'm using the latest Android on Launcherpro

o my gosh do some effing research first!!!!!! that answer is in the android build thread.
but to answer your questions....
full sleep is working its just that they still havent got the battery voltage or something like that working right so it still drains and its hot cause the drivers still arent working right in some things.
but all of this is from the top of my head so im pretty sure that im wrong with one of those but just go to the build thread use the SEARCH button..
and have fun with your android

Do you know how hard it is to find anything in that thread... It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Okay so I just booted it without my charger plugged in and it shows that it is charging? But no LED.
I open Battery Indicator and it says "Charging from 32%" and it stays there... Never changes.
Now then if I plug in my charger... nothing changes. No LED even. Just "Charging from 32%" as before... Really weird.

There are many posts concerning the current battery issues with the Rhodium. I suggest reading them. There's even a sort of fix if you don't mind losing wifi.

Actually you don't lose WiFi anymore.

I used that battery fix but I'm still having this same issue... It says I'm charging even if I'm not.
I think my phone didn't enter deep sleep mode... for one of two reasons... I had windows live messenger running.. or it thought it was charging, and it doesn't sleep while it charges? Dunno.
Maybe I'll re-install it all..

I fixed my issue. I figure it had something to do with the update utility in WinMo. I re-installed Android and added only the zimage from the Battery fix and ran that, and everything works. The first time I had updated the Android using the utility first. All good now. Weird stuff.

Battery Drain overnight

I don't know what is wrong with me (I know this is something I'm doing wrong), this happens EVERY time I have an android phone.
I think I'm not closing an app or something and the battery drained overnight, it happened when I had a G1 and an X10... Anyone experienced that?
Is there a way to close apps properly on Android? I don't want to have to install something to manage whether my apps are open or close, I just want them to close when I'm done with them....

Internet.. guessing you dont use it at night so try this.. 2 methods of doing the same thing 1) +/Widgets/Settings/Mobile Network and just toggle that whenever you don't need to use 3g connection, or before you go to bed. 2) Hold Power Button/ Mobile Network and make sure it says Connet to Internet is OFF..
for me, this gives 3 days of battery (also doing some under clocking at night ) loving the phone!
Ive experienced high battery usage on a HTC Desire, a Google nexus one and now on a Samsung Captivate. It always seems to be Android OS and the usage is even higher than display which is ridiculous.
It happens on and off and its really quite annoying. I always think Ive found out what causes it...and then it happens again!
I have to ask the question, but have you regularly been using the same 3rd party applications with each of the phones?
Regards,
Dave

I realize the logic behind the question you're asking. Ive noticed android os battery drain without any apps installed (i.e. stock only). It doesnt seem to happen on a regular basis though.
At one time, I was pretty confident it was a generic charger, another time after usb connections and even something associated with google push services.
Not really sure what it could be. Its like those experiments at university where there are way too many variables, so the only option is to sit down and data log until a trend emerges. Frankly, its a phone and its too much time to actually sit down and do that. (Yes I know im lazy )
2-4% battery drain is normal at night, if you have airplane mode on or at least 3G / WiFi data connection off. The drain should be between 2 and 5 mA for most of the time.
There are a few battery related threads, try comparing those results with yours, we did some extensive testing too in one of them.
To pinpoint your problem try one or a combination of these three tools: SystemPanel, Power Tutor, Current Widget (maybe one each night). Let them monitor your system overnight and see what's the result.
I have recently done testing for 4 nights, two with SetCpu underclocking profile at screen off, and two without it. There was no appreciable difference between the four runs.
i use an App to turn on airplane mode over night, i stared with an app called "sweet dream" [Link = http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/sweet-dream_jtvk.html?nav=googleDownload ]
and now use timeriffic [link = http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/timeriffic_tdl.html ]
it really does help the battery life.
Or just plug it in overnight? This seems to work fine for me!!

Hell yeah, plug it in and turn airplane mode on

Have you tried conditioning the battery?
Calibrate your battery then reset your battery stats. It could help. If you flashed a rom while charging or during the first boot screen on first boot or on USB, battery calibration will need to be performed. It made a massive difference for me after multiple flashes.

Thanks!
I decided to install Advanced Task Killer, all is good now, must have been some app draining it.

Charging while phone is off?

Hi,
Yesterday I came across strange issue. In WinMo, when the phone was off it was charging normally untill the battery was fully charged...
After Flashing Android to NAND I can not do that. It seems to be charging (orange LED is on) for about 10 sec. and than the Display blinks with white light and the phone dies completely.
The only thing you can do after that is to pull out the battery and put it back. Than you can turn the phone on and charge as usually.
What is that issues origin? Battery driver? Or another thingie in Firmware? It seems to be quite strange, that it lights the display even with the phone being off...

My Kaiser does the exact same thing, and what it is, is for some reason the phone is booting back up. I came across this the other day, and my phone did the exact same thing described, and not sure what I did, but I managed to turn on the screen and Android was booted up to the lock screen.
It's even done it when I plug the phone into A/C power without the battery even connected.
so here is why it happens, basicly what would happen is in WinMo when the phone would turn off and boot into a charge loop and it would charge and shut off when finished our kernel doesnt have this built into it so it just boots like normal when power is applied

yup... happens to all of us, its not a big deal... there are a lot of worse problems devs are trying to solve... maybe whn they reach a point where the kernel is more stable they should pay attention to the details like this (and the camera driver, camcoder... etc)

Well that answers my question... Yah knew it was something inside the kernel, just didn't know if it was a bug, or something that wasn't implemented yet.
Of course this is low priority task but I just wanted to have that confirmed to know, that my oldie holdie is not broken or what
Quick question:
How old is your kaiser and/or battery ?
About 5 years with original battery
Sent from my Full Android on Kaiser using XDA App
It used to be that if Linux NBH was flashed, the phone wouldn't charge at all when off. Then somebody (dzo I believe) added code to the kernel so that the phone turns on when it is plugged in, so that it will charge. That used to work, with a full complete boot. Now, as you say, the phone tries to wake up but doesn't really make it. Maybe we should look into that, we should be able to fix that, maybe by looking carefully at the git logs for the past six months or so.
There are bigger problems, like data reliability, but if somebody wants a problem in the kernel that they can study and perhaps fix, this is a good one to start with.
To correctly charge the battery system need to be on so i can do this:
start kernel
in initrd:
if it found the power connected then the phone wait for power button (trying the sleep mode)
else
start the system
i need some testing to do it.
Windows do quite the same thing.

[Q] Another Battery Drain Thread (But this is ridiculous)

Firstly, I know what I'm doing when it comes to flashing. But I'm completely dumbfounded here..
Okay in standby mode, with wifi on i usually get -3 to -7mA.
But suddenly a few days ago, my phone doesn't sound my alarm in the morning because it had turned its self off.
Imagine my surprise when I had to plug it to start it. Turns out it had drained 60% in little over 3 hours.
So I began testing - turns out my phone had started to fluctuate between -90 and -150 mA EVEN IN AIRPLANE MODE.
After trying countless solutions (inc many different ROMs), I had had enough. I full wiped from CWM and installed fresh ARHD 5.1.6, skipped all setup, installed just titanium, and restored just battery calibration and currentwidget. I calibrated and then left it overnight in airplane mode - and STILL it fluctuated just as wildly.
I wouldn't post this if I hadn't tried everything, but I have spent hours reading xda trying to amend this. Changing radios didn't help (am using latest atm), changing ROM didn't help (not GB or froyo or CM7), even restoring my nandroid from when my battery drain was normal didn't help.
Does anyone have ANY ideas as to why this is happening?
The only thing I can conceivably think of is that my battery is giving up.
Is this good enough cause to get a replacement battery/phone from HTC?
Edit: Meant to post this is Q&A tread, sorry
if you changed the ROM and radio, then i'd be near to positive to say that the problem is from the battery!!
Buy another one and give it a long 20-22 hrs charge (although HTC recommends 8hrs - but they talk alot of crap ) before opening your phone.
Or, alternatively, see if anyone (friends/family) can lend you a battery and see if the problem still persists

Official batterys are expensive... does HTC do replacements?
not sure, never tried or asked, gotta phone them up!
have you tried turning USB debugging on? that solved it for some people.
i also had this problem, and the USB debug didnt work, but i found that it was something to do with HTC hub repeatedly trying to connect to the internet and using a shed load of CPU in doing so. aeroplane mode didnt help me either, but after turning off everything with HTC in its name it worked again. (specifically HTC sense in accounts and sync)
hope that helps, worth a try.
oh and my battery is fine now, lasts 2 days or so. can last a week though.
still charge it every night though.
Thanks for replying, but USB Debugging was always on for me, and when I tested with fresh install I didn't put ANY accounts in so the HTC thing shouldn't be an issue. i guess I'll just try the replacement battery thing
sometimes the radio signal kept switching also may cause a drain in your battery.
Setting > Mobile networks > Network Mode > Preferred Network Mode
for me i preferred it to be set as 'WCDMA' rather than 'GSM/WCDMA Auto'. The draw back is that i may lost signal if the signal is weak but this setting prevent the radio from being switching.
OKAY GUYS I FIXED IT
How you may ask?
I HAVE NO IDEA
I was just flashing things over trying to fix it and suddenly it went back to normal. I'm currently using a UV kernel, so maybe that's helping too.

Dont want to go too far OT, but how do you measure the battery current?
I assume you dont physically wire up an ammeter, or do you?
Ian P
Hahahahahaha, that's brilliant. I'm signaturing that
But no, I don't. The phone creates estimates of the present current/voltage loss, much the same way as it makes estimates of the battery % left.
So all you need is an app to log that! Currentwidget is the lightest, but I recommend battery monitor widget
OK its a battery monitoring app, but can you see the current drain whilst actually using other programmes?
Some apps use full screen so even the top status bar is not visible.

[Q] Battery Charging Issue.. very werid.

There have been similar threads before... but my case is kinda different. :c
Problems started a couple days ago. Using the AOKP M3 rom, on the lockscreen, it says the phone is charging. However it is not plugged in... so i rebooted. Still there.
Then i went ahead and cleared battery stats and cache. Still there. I started to every combination of CWM tools to attempt to fix the problem. Still no luck. Says charging... Then i realized that maybe its the software side. (Being very optimistic that it isnt a hardware issue) So i check the About Phone setting in the Settings.
It says Discharging which i thought meant "ok its the rom" so i went ahead and flashed Andriod HD revoultion. Still charging on lockscreen and battery icon...
Anyone know anything about a fix? or something i really dont want to send it in.......... although i guess i can live without my phone for a week or so.
Any solutions tho?
Note: Lockscreen says Charging. Battery Icon is Charging icon. About Phone is Discharging and the Battery graph is at 1s on Battery forever :c
EDIT: the Battery setting now says Discharging. It is only the lockscreen and icon at this point.

You got hit with this:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23789
It's pretty damn common I'd say (my phone had it and I exchanged it), so either replace the USB board yourself (as people on that site confirmed it works) or send it in for repairs. There's nothing else you can do unfortunately.
Sucks that such a bug exist without any real communication from Samsung or Google.

Battery icon or battery information not showing charging but still is why?

Just trying to get my head around this dumb battery charging issue. Seems that some Roms the wife's kindle charges but doesn't say/show anything is actually charging. Some Roms show charging under battery information. All Roms don't show battery charging icon. Also the light on the power button works or doesn't work. Can someone explain all this so I can understand.. Its pretty bizarre.. Thanks
I will try to first give you the short answer then I will make an attempt at the long one. The charging issue is directly related to the kernel.... the long one... the icon will not indicate charging ever... go to about phone or tablet and status plug it in if it still says discharging unplug and replug if it still say discharging reboot then try again.. its common for the light to flicker amber when charging and not remain static at some point it will go green near the end of the charge... bottom line its just the nature of the beast...high usage fast or slow charge erratic indications all part of the animal...

Thanks for the explanation! What you mentioned is exactly what we have been seeing. It does charge so knowing its kernel related thing works for me.
I'm having a similar problem, I know it charges by going to the settings menu. The problem comes from when the Kindle goes to sleep, I always had a light come out of the button, but after installing Jandycane the light wont come on. It's hard to know if it is charging or not, anyone have the same problem?

Everyone has the same problem that's just how it is on JB and I believe ICS roms. The kernel needs fixed, but there are other issues that are most likely higher priority.

I have Hashcode's kernel and have flashed many ROMs. I'm on Hellfire's now . I find that if you charge in TWRP the light acts normal, stays red while charging and turns green at 90%. It may be my particular kf but try it , it might work.
