Process android.process.acore is not responding - Desire General

Hi
I've noticed a problem with my Desire, I'm running MCR3.1 and always after some days of running the phone doesn't want to shut down, after shutting down finally (takes up to an hour), on the next boot it gives me the followng message:
Process android.process.acore is not responding Wait or Force quit?
What should I do, how do I fix this?

I had this problem so I deleted a2sd and my phone has been fine since. Not sure if ur using it though?

Yep I'm using apps2sd+ on mcr3.1. Forgot to mention it. I can't go without apps2sd. I have a bunch of medical apps, only Epocrates takes up more than 5 MB. Comming from the iPhone, this app space limitation seems more rediculous than any of the appstore policies I had to deal with (jailbreak FTW!).
But anyway enogh of whining. So you think, removing apps2sd will help my case. This basically means reflashing an apps2sdless rom...

The problem, in my case, was the auto-synchronization of PEEP (Twitter for HTC). Now I can't use Peep anymore, but the process.acore doesn't crash.

Am I the only one who has touch-screen problems with the vogue on/off? Seriously..

I had one before, dropped it a few times.. I wrote it off as that being why, well I just got a replacement one sent.. haven't dropped it once, it's been here only about 2 weeks
Randomly sometimes it won't respond to almost anything.. I'll be trying to slide the screen, it either won't at all or will go halfway like I barely touched it. I'll try clicking on things, programs, start, whatever... it'll not respond at all, I end up having to press with way more pressure than I should have to, way more.
Then sometimes without even a reset it'll start working just about normally again.. but that's rarely, usually I'll soft reset or pull the battery for a second and then it'll be fine.. for days even.. then I'll run into it again..
I noticed 2-3 times it was because I had **** updating at the time (motweets) or was receiving email.. but I've since made everything manual regarding email, and motweets updates once every 15 minutes and the amount of tweets is limited so it's not a lot..
Still, I run into this problem, and I've made sure it wasn't a program updating but I can't think of what else would make this happen, am I the only one??
Is it because there's a way to clear cache on internets and other programs and I have no idea how? (I fully close them, that's not the problem, I know my Vogue I just can't figure this out an it seems nobody else has this problem).. Not to mention I have my internet cache's directed to my storage card so as to keep my phone memory as free'd up as possible
If anyone can help..
mine is unresponsive sometimes and i have to tap on the back of the phone to get to work again. i thinks its going out soon
That's what I thought about my old one, I figured I had dropped it to much.. because I did lol but now I got a new one 2 weeks old and I'm running into the SAME problems.. I'm assuming I must be doing something wrong with how I've got **** set-up

j18yo i think that your problem might be that to many programs run when you start your vogue that happened to me before and i hated it but then i heard of a program named "Space Reclaimer" FREE and it made my vogue much more responsive because the program stops any programs that start when you turn on your vogue or any windows mobile phone
I have the same problem usually under the same conditions. Mostly happens in the morning after the device has been off. Works fine for a few seconds then stops responding correctly i.e., the D-Pad stops scrolling correctly with a lag on touch response. I use CleanRAM and it still doesn't fix the prob once it occurs. Sometimes when I run CleanRAM it will occur. I've tried putting biotouch.exe and everyting BUT the kernel processes in the exceptions list and a Level 1 clean. Hard reset yesterday and haven't had the problem yet. If it continues to work, I'll post my settings.
BTW, I'm on a stock 6.1 ROM with a few apps.

What ROM are you running? I asume that wehn your new device came you loaded it the same as the old one. It has to be something with the ROM you are runnning or a problem with a program causing your issue.
My phone would do this periodically too, with Vin's latest ROMs. I turned off Manila and am running Titanium now. Interestingly - no lags when unlocking since. I'll keep Titanium on for some time to see if that makes it go away. I had an issue with both his current v2 and v4 (which I am running now).
Ive had to replace my screen twice and the whole phone once because of touch screen problems. Thank God for the insurance.
Ah yes... to what OP mentioned:
I do not beleive it is a more pressure thing. I do not think it is more pressure that is required but rather that the phone is non responsive. If you are unlocking and typing a PIN, it takes the PIN and all but it takes perhaps one digit every 5 seconds. That's my experience anyway. So it is just slower, as if something was consuming the CPU and UI is not responsive.

THIS..
It has to be the problem.. I have CleanRAM run every 12 hours or 6 hours because I figured it would help.. lol but now your saying sometimes it happens WHEN you run cleanRAM.. Im assuming it does something, or erases something it shouldnt?
This is like the 1 sole thing I have run on a schedule, I've turned off my email and everything to manual, I went into my startup folder and there was about 4-5 things I didn't need which made the battery 100% better than it was in terms of how long it lasts.. and I set-up this CleanRAM schedule on my last phone I THINK I forgot but I do know as soon as I got this 1 going I did it and I'm bout to delete the program completely and see if it'll help, I have speedbooster too which does a cleanup too I'm curious if it would have the same result..
I'll let everyone know if this ended up being my problem incase anyones in the exact same boat with the same apps
PS: I was doing level 3 cleans

Update: I don't think CR erases things as much as it kills processes that won't restart. Thru trial and error, I've adjusted my CleanRAM settings to where I haven't had the problem for a couple of days. I'm able to do a Level 3 cleans on a once a night schedule and during the day if need be. In settings, I have it to close all apps, launch startup progs, and display today screen. I have no exceptions listed for either running progs or startup progs. I have the most up to date version from the OTA update in the program.
The program links in my StartUp folder are: poutlook (original on ROM), sddaemon (original on ROM), WLMUpdate (original on ROM), Glossybars.exe (I added this), biotouch.exe (I added as I thought CR killing this was the source of the problem), pocketwit.exe (I added), and SIPChange (I added).
One thing I did do was delete the link for TouchPal from the Startup folder. I did this for other reasons (I use FingerKeyBoard). Not sure if this was part of the problem.
I can scroll with d-pad and no touch lag.
On a side note, can I delete any of poutlook, sddaemon, or WLMUpdate from the startup folder to save battery power?
I'm probably just a bit above a newb so sorry if I don't make sense.
Update: Just for kicks, I deleted the links for glossybars.exe and pocketwit.exe from my StartUp and it started locking again after running CleanRAM. I put them back in and it works again even after running CleanRAM. Maybe someone with more knowledge can explain this. I'm just keeping it the way it is now...
Hmm weird that you removed something not very important like pocketwit an cleanram caused problems again.. someone has to have some info on this??
I deleted everything from my StartUp folder but my SPB Mobile Shell.. I didn't have sddaemon, but I did have poutlook and WLMUpdate both of which I deleted.. then I had some other programs that aren't necessary for the phone.. I have no problems on restart or anything, and the % showed being used is stays around the 30's now instead of 40s/50s.. and when I run programs it usually reachs 50% tops now instead of 60/70% I used to get.
PS: Pocketwit isnt bad I used to praise the program but now I've tried MoTweets and.. I can't think of the other one now.. ****.. it's really good though but it seems to use a lot more phone power than MoTweets so I went back to that.
Pocketwit kept giving me problems, started saying I need to install that NET 3.5 or whatever but when I try to it says I have a later version already so it won't install, then other times it'll work completely fine.. but MoTweets I like better anyways
Ok, I give up. I restored everything to the way I had it when it was working and now I'm having problems again. After the screen turns off and I turn it back on, it locks up and won't scroll and has the touch lag issue.
Hope someone figures this out. Shouldn't have messed with success. Good luck.

I'm not using the TouchFLO interface, does that mean its still on though?
I'm not completely up on understanding all this
This was happening with Vin's Rom for me as well. I was tripping out pressing ON so many times with no screen showing up but phone light on! I believe it could be the power settings. I disabled the "Turn off device" which I believe was mentioned in his notes about the rom.
I gave up on this problem for a while but found something when researching how to disable to cube. I used the registry edit in this thread to disable to cube post #69. I didn't do any of the other steps because I'm not having memory probs (42% with pocketwit in the bckgrd).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368269&page=7
I noticed that biotouch.exe never shows up in the running processes menu in CleanRAM and I don't have the "lock/freeze" scrolling problem any longer and I can run CleanRam without the problem occurring. I can press any item on the screen as well with no delayed response.
However, this stops you from being able to finger scroll and do the "side to side" scroll in Messaging. I never really finger scrolled and prefer using the d-pad for scrolling so losing that functionality isn't a big deal to me.
If anyone can figure out how to keep this working so smooth and have the option to finger scroll, I'd be much obliged. It just seems that biotouch.exe craps out sometimes and locks up the d-pad. If they could both work equally well....

t-mobile HTC desire won't shut down

apologies if this is covered elsewhere.
anyone else got this problem. I read somewhere its quite common. My Desire will not shutdown. everytime I have to hard reset by removing the battery. If I shut just after it has started it will work but after a short length of time if I try shutting down it will not.
This is quite annoying. I'd rather not send back if I can avoid it. I recently received an OTA update from HTC but this did nothing for it.
I also have the problem with application launcher but quick uninstaller is a satisfactory work around. otherwise a great phone which I would recommend to anyone apart from this issue.
I had a very long shutdown time took several minutes to turn off. As I removed (see my comments regarding memory) most of the apps I had installed myself this prob is gone. So it must have been one of the apps that didnt allow the device to turn off.
Its as Jannen said, Have you ever experienced a long shutdown with windows? Its exactly the same thing with Android. Sometimes it struggles to shutdown the OS efficiently. I think its something we are going to have to live with, or you can get a task killer (app manager) and kill all running tasks before you shut down your phone.
But i must say it has not happened to me since i have been using helixlauncher2, so it may be a Sense problem?
JD
ok I treid killing all processes on taskos (except sense which is in the ignore list) and it shut down in about a minute. guess I can live with that...
android is a bit windowsy at times. But in a good way if you know what I mean. love the customisations and can live with the occasional process crashes etc... that this means
yeah had the same problem, sometimes it takes about 10 minutes to shut down.
sometimes killing all apps works, tho sometimes it doesnt.
someone also said to unmount the sd card first.

Evo reboots during use

Weird problem, had my Evo for a couple of days now and everything seemed fine for the first day but now when I run certain apps like google maps for pandora my Evo will reboot. This doesn't happen all the time but will eventually happen after an hour or two of usage. I did buy a case for my phone, maybe it's a heat issue?

I've had this happen on my hero. It is just clearing memory are you using autokiller ? It started on my hero when using autokiller. It's not a heat issue the led will flash red and green when the phone is hot.
I'm using advanced task killer but I don't think it's set to autokill apps. A hard reset has seemed to fix this issue for now, how do I ensure it doesn't happen again in the future?
It might help to check your preset in autokiller and set to moderate or optimum but some apps use more memory than others so you might see it from time to time. I still use autokiller set on extreme and would only see that once every week or two on the hero. So it's not that big of a deal. You could just uninstall it if it bugs you or to see if it stops. I have not seen it on my evo yet but I am just rooted no custom ROM yet (Waiting for fresh ROM with espresso theme). That might help contribute to it as well.
taziz23, I don't mean to hi-jack your thread but I've been chasing down the cause of random reboots also. I've been searching around for someone with a similar issue and all I've been finding are people talking about the reboot loop caused by an exchange account. I'm not using exchange at the moment so I know that's not what's affecting me.
It sounds similar to what you're talking about. About 30 minutes to an hour apart regardless of whether I'm using the phone or not. It just did it while sitting on the desk next to me with the screen off for at least 15 minutes.
I've hard reset a few times to see if it was related to the OTA, and turns out it happens to both .1 and .6
I've found out that if I don't associate my google account during the initial setup (or any other accounts like facebook, twitter, etc.) it doesn't seem to reboot anymore. Once I do setup an account and set it to auto sync, I start seeing the reboots happening. So I've been playing with different combinations of disabling calendar sync, contacts sync, etc. to narrow it down but so far, I've come up with nothing.
I've even exported my contacts to a .cvs file using my desktop browser and cleaning out any of the <HTCDATA> stuff that links facebook and twitter to make sure nothing is corrupt and reimported them, but as the reboots are still happening, it looks like that might rule out contact corruption.
I had made it through most of Friday before the reboots started. I recall installing the update to Facebook and TasKiller just before it started happening, but have hard reset since then and have not installed either of these again.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?
Two words: Kernel Panic.
Actually, that's just a guess. I'd imagine anything else would cause some kind of error message to show up like a force close for example.
It has happened with my Evo a few times so far. It also happened with my Hero when I use to use that.
It's probably just a module misbehaving which confuses the OS and causes the kernel panic, so I imagine it's nothing more than a software bug.
Yea... I was thinking some KP's might be happening, but if the release build is dated in April, I must have some fluky hardware right?
Maybe I'll run an `adb logcat` and just wait.
I remember the hard crashes on some of the early donut and eclair builds for the Vogue (CDMA Touch) and these are pretty much the same deal. Just drops out and goes straight to the bootsplash.
Regardless of the phone or OS, I've seen this happen on all the phones I've owned. Android is at least open to allow normal people to debug and fix these problems though.
Me too!
I had a seemingly random reboot happen today on my EVO as well... then it happened again.
Both times, I had Waze and Pandora running and was about 30 seconds into a phone call.
Advanced Task Killer is installed, and is set to kill "when screen off".
I'm pretty new to Android based phones, so I'm not even sure where to start with troubleshooting... but found this thread, and thought this info may help.
Krissy
(P.S. I love this phone so much, right now - I don't even care that it has rebooted on me twice in the middle of a phone call... but eventually the honeymoon will be over, and I'll want this figured out. LOL)
I am having an exact same ISSUE i got it from google I/O its just happened suddenly while you are using it I have no Idea .. Search is also not that great .. Platform need lot of work until it get mature .... I was definately enjoying 1st 2 weeks but not anymore its just killing me now ... Issues after Issues so many Bugs I have start noticing now.. I am not complanning but its just not solid they need to fix this asap... I was enjoying Pre it was slow but I like that OS .. not too much buggy... some apps just Crash randomly .. I was huh .. and its doing more and more now ..
After my hard reset a couple of days ago I haven't had any reboots. I do think it was related to the task killer I think it might have caused some data corruption possibly when killing an application. I set the auto killer to safe in the meantime. If it stats happening again I'll try uninstalling the task killer before I hard reset.
I had the same thing happen, but only once. I was using google maps I think. I also have advance task killer installed. Does the ignore list in advance task killer and setting it to auto kill, kill everything except for what's in the ignore list?
I'm not sure but I did notice that most of my reboots were happening when running google maps..
My Evo rebooted most days 4 or 5 times, day or night, in use or not. The store where I purchased it refused to replace it since I couldn't duplicate the problem to the local technical store. They acted like I needed someone to talk to and not like I had a problem needing resolution. After about 20 calls to customer support they told me to return it where I purchased it and they're sending me out a new one. Apparently no one at Sprint has ever heard that there's this issue. Mine was stock. Period.
I have had some reboot issues that I can't explain. I removed Advance Task killer and it seems to happen less frequent. Maybe once every two days, but never during a call. Waiting to see if this stops with Froyo.
Used to have similar, but less frequent, reboot issues and an occasional "frozen" screen with my previous Blackberry 8830.
I've only had it reboot once or maybe twice for no reason but When I use advanced task kill I almost expect it to happen. And I only use it to kill whatever app I was just using and any other ones Ive downloaded that have no business running.
I have had the same issue, only I am using the full version of Memory Booster..I am going to uninstall it and see if that helps, I also notice that my phone was very hot. It rebooted about 3 times before letting me use the phone again.
Any other suggestions?

Random Restart

So far today, my Evo has reset itself about 4 times. That is within the past hour and a half. I've had it since Monday and had no other issues with it doing this until today. The only app that was added in the past 24hrs was the Wireless Tether for Root app. I don't know what or why this is happening. I've just uninstalled Unrevoked, Superuser Permissions, the Overclock Widget, and the Wireless Tether to see if that is causing the issues. Anyone else have anything similar to this happening?
Also, I changed the "always on mobile data" setting to off yesterday. That increased my battery life dramatically. I was able to leave the phone on for a solid 11hrs with it still having 60% charge left. Then today, before I changed any settings at all, unplugging the phone from the charger for about 2hrs has resulted me in being down to 45% battery. Could mobile data always on being off cause the rebooting issue?
Same thing was happening to me when I unchecked that. Checked it back and all rebooting issues went away.

Since I posted that message I had two more reboots. Just ticked always on mobile data back on and am waiting to see if that stops it...
EDIT: No more reboots since reenabling mobile data always on...weird
I've had the always on data feature turned off since day one to conserve battery life and i had not experienced the random shut offs until yesterday. Since yesterday however my phone has restarted itself no less than 20 times. Several times while I was sleeping so this is defiantly a real problem but I dont think its related to settings. ill be contacting HTC tonight
I have had always data off, ticked it on this morn. And started getting the reset issue...

Random restarts are often indicative of the battery not sitting in properly.
Remove the battery. Scratch up the contacts. Insert back firmly...
I am also having this same issue. I turned my phone off this morning because i wouldn't be using it and then i turned it back on in the afternoon and then my phone just started randomly restarting itself. There is no rhyme or reason to it. It has just been happening all by itself. It has probably happened 10 times in the last 4.5 hours.
I took the battery out for a minute and put it back in to see if it will stop the issue, but i'll have to wait and see. However, when i did turn the phone back on i got a weird pop-up message on the main screen that said something to the effect of, "Operational failure, please use su command." Then it faded away. Anyone know what that means?
As mentioned above, turning always-on mobile back on, took care of my restart issue.

I'm getting the same issue. At first i thought it was ATK, so i uninstalled that. Then I though it was lookout, so I disabled that. But it still keeps happening. I have mobile data off too, but for days, and it hasn't affected it one way or the other.
The odd thing is, I was running xiiLive Lite last night streaming the radio all night, and my phone stayed up the whole time, while plugged in (at least 8 hours).
I don't know what the deal is, but my phone goes about 24-48 hours without a spontaneous reboot, and then it will start doing it 4-6 times a day. Anyone have a good logging tool would be nice, as I'm somewhat new to Android.
Thanks!

I had mobile data off for a few days with no reset issues. Then I installed a few apps from the market (not the ones you mentioned) and then the resets started. I uninstalled the newest apps but the resets kept happening. Then I turned mobile data back on and no more resets in the last 24 hours.
my evo is randomly rebooting and I never modified the settings that some of you are talking about. My also gives me random issues where when i try to open an app it will open for a split second and close? I am also having my phone lock up on me several times a day and i have to pull the battery to reboot it! I took it back to the sprint store and they insisted on reloading the software on the phone and it made no difference.... does anyone have any suggestions or similar issues?

I had the apps closing after a split sec too but I found out that it was for apps that didn't play nice with the snapdragon cpu; like the Gameloft game Nova and a few of their other titles.
for me its stock apps like the navigator, video player etc. I am thinking i might have a defective unit.

Yup! That does sound strange! Did you root your phone? I'm rooted and all the stock apps that I've tried, seem to open and work fine.
nope! not rooted, 100% how it was out of the box. Luckily my pre was still active so i video taped it freezing up and stuff so im going to show the tech at the sprint store so hopefully they can order my replacement.
I also have a fully stock phone, some apps installed, but none recently, and yesterday it rebooted itself, twice more today.
I haven't changed the settings mentioned earlier, and haven't done anything I can think of that would cause the rebooting.
I am also having issues where I can't get an IP address on my wireless network, but I'm not sure it's related. I just noticed these 2 problems in the last 2 days, and it's the only thing I can think of that's out of the ordinary from the weeks prior to this happening.
I think I'll take it to Sprint tomorrow and see what they have to say.
Keep us updated on what happens. It seems to take a day or two for symptoms to start, but when they do it goes crazy rebooting!
...more discussion on this issue has been going on here too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702379
I'm not a professional android user and don't know much about it yet, but mine's rebooted a few times as well. I haven't rooted my phone but the ONE thing that seemed to have resolved the continuing issue is doing a hard reboot:
Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset
It's been 4 days and hasn't rebooted since.
EDIT: It's been 6 days now and still no reboots.
Angry Apps Eating my RAM!
I think what everyone is missing here that maybe the root of the problem is low memory.
I'm not talking about storage on the SD card. I"m talking about the memory the OS has to run.
I've fought long and hard with this low memory problem seeing as I have owned a g1 for almost 2 years.
THERE IS NO REASON THE EVO SHOULD EVER GET DOWN TO UNDER 30MB OF SYSTEM RAM!
I equate this issue to the same issue many people had with Windows computers and applications that start up in the system tray! We don't need most apps to run in the back ground on start up just in case I want to use it. The few seconds of time it shaves off of starting up the app is not worth the slower OS boot up (applies to Windows mainly) or the major slow downs they cause the OS's to have.
I don't need Sprint TV running on boot!
When I used a clean slate scene I still have all of these same issues. Random reboots, slow OS and apps, ect.
I have no idea why Android would allow that much RAM to be used for background apps. I don't understand why we have no way to see what programs run on boot unless using a 3rd party app.
Most apps are so crappy that they run in the background all the time and have no way to toggle if they run on boot and I'm not talking about apps that modify something all the time I"m talking about apps that ONLY need to be running once you open them. An example would be Swipe, I understand the need for that app to run on boot. It modifies the OS keyboard and would need to be running in order to work correctly when ever you enter any text field that pops up the keyboard for input.
An example of programs that don't need to be running on boot or should at least give you an option to toggle boot start up are; Sprint Navigation, Sprint Updater (No idea what this is for), Updater (Android?), Sprint Zone, doubletwist, SprintTV Widget (I'm on the clean slate profile with NO Widgets), VoiceMail (I use Google Voice, is this needed?), Sprint Football Live (It's not even Football season!), MP3 Store (I have yet to use on the EVO but is running just in case, thx), as well as many others.
I have 35 apps running in the back ground! WTF? Thanks ****ty app devs and bloatware Sprint!
Have fun try to find options for each app and figuring out each service to know what it's tied to so that you can have a phone that it powerful and run smoothly.
It really shouldn't be this hard or as much of a pain...

This is where I am so lost with Android. I read many blogs saying Android does not need a task killer and using one will only make your system slow down. Well I tried one anyway because it's in my Windows Mobile nature to do so (old habits....). I noticed that I too had 35 or so apps running in the background and I thought that doesn't sound good, I wanna kill them all. But then what Android pros keep telling me is to let them be and that the OS will kill them as needed. But from what you're saying, it sounds like the OS doesn't always do a good enough job. So my confusion and learning process of Android continues......

Apps restarting/sluggish phone

Hi I'm hoping someone can kindly guide me in the right direction on what to do with my phone because over the past week I have been having alot of problems with it. I can't recall any changes I have made to my phone as to why it has suddenly become so slow and unresponsive. I have an app called Clean Master and it keeps notifying me that a problem has been a detected and that 3 apps are constantly restarting, so i got into the settings and stop the app as it says, but then later on another 3 different apps restart later on. Also Clean Master is telling me my phone is hot and asking me to shut down apps which I have done and they still restart. I have recently updated the phone using HTC software and got rid of alot of apps which I didnt use and take up a lot of space. Has anybody else encountered a problem like this or can help me please?
Have you tried running without Clean Master? Such task killers can often cause more problems than they solve. And what you are experiencing is a good (possible) example. Killing apps in Android will often cause them to restart. This constant killing and respawning will use up CPU resources and generate heat; with little benefit as freeing up RAM often does not make Android any faster. If you have reason to believe the apps are poorly written/optimized, or if you don't use or need them, then delete of freeze them. Otherwise, its probably best to let them run like they are supposed to.
The article below is a few years old, but still relevant:
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/android-task-killers-explained-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
Any app that claims to increase performance by killing tasks is a bit suspect to me for this reason.
thanks, I will take a read, I understand what you are saying and I will uninstall it to see if it makes any difference. Hopefully it might solve the problem i have with the amazon app atm as for some reason to me it seems to be malfunctioning on my device, because every 10 mins or so I got a pop up box saying "amazon isn't responding, do you want to close it?" I've uninstalled it, installed the latest version of the app but it still happens :/

As far as the amazon app goes Google older versions ,uninstall the new version and install the older version but keep the playstore from updating automatically.
