Hi All,
I searched and searched and couldn't find anything.
I have an issue which occurs only sometimes, so i can't put my finger on what is causing this.
I have used different ROMs and happens in everyone.
Currently running e2 ROM 2.5 on ATT Tilt2. When i and writing a text message via soft keyboard, i decide to save time and slide out my hard keyboard. When I do they the whole system freezes and the only way to get it back is back popping out the batt.
Anyone experence this, or have any ideas
Thanks,
JC
Noticed same thing. Sometimes sliding open keyboard freezes the phone completely. Didn't try another rom yet but am at the point of drilling a small hole in the casing so that i can reset it with my stylus without opening the case.
The Sense makes the phone very sluggish also, maybe it has something to do with it.
Same problem. I flashed the phone back to the STOCK Rom and still the same thing
U will notice in due time, The screen will start to give out and fudge up as well.
TRy THIS
Plug in the wall charger and see the ORange light turn on to indicate that it is charging.
Slide open the keyboard, Most LIkely the orange light would disappear.
If it disappeared then slide the keyboard back slowly into normal position until the light turns on. Once the light turns on u should be able to use the touch screen and the keyboard
BUT who wants to do that everytime they use the keyboard? Turn it in for warranty
Don't forget to reflash to stock rom and Undo HARD SPL :]
I doubt its software related. This issue is a known. Like my tilt 2 likes to reset itself if I open or close the keyboard to fast/hard. Especially if I let it slam shut. I think its a manufacturer defect or flaw of some kind. The battery contacts are comin loose for that split second when u open or close at times. A fix I read about is to wedge a piece of paper between the battery and the backcover. That will keep the battery firmly in place and pressed down. Its so the battery contacts will stay connected to device power contacts. Try it out and see if that helps. I haven't done that yet. I juss make sure to easily open and close keyboard. If I let keyboard slam shut, it'll power down and reboot. Thnkx for the tip about drilling a small hole in side of case so it can be reseted like that. Good idea. I get tired of always taking the back cover off if I need to reset.
Also the hd tweaks cab has an app with it called hd soft reset or something. Press the icon and u can soft reset.

I've been running Black 1.2 for some time. Love it. Never soft reset. Only hard reset it once. I'm using a Cingular 8525. What's weird is that it powers itself off randomly lately. 3 times in a row. It was pretty hot outside when it happened, so don't know if the heat caused it, but the screen would just die and turn off. Anyone have this happen? Any ideas as to what causes this powering down? The battery is full. It was just super hot out? Hmmm.
I would suggest you upgrade to a newer rom dude
take a look in my guide thread which has the latest ROMs listed.

I considered it, but since Black 1.2 was released, I never had a problem with it. Very stable. Could it now after all this time just all-of-a-sudden cause random power-offs? Also, I noticed the device likes to power-off when I slide the qwerty keyboard out and lock it in place. Not every time I open it, but it has happened a few times now. ROM related? Let me know. I'll probably up to a newer ROM tonight.
Thanks.

Ok, update: Seems that EVERY time I slide out and lock the qwerty the device shuts off when I go to reply in a messgae using Palm SMS Threader. Is it the device or the app?
I had the same problem with my old JAMin (Prophet). I would keep the phone in a case and then wonder why I wasn't receiving any calls, then check and see the phone having turned itself off. Reloaded it with a different ROM and the problem went away.
Yeah, that's happened a bunch of times now. Just recently did I hard reset my device, and all was running great like before. Just all of a sudden am I having this issue with power offs and the qwerty kicking the phone off when I open it.
I have the same problem and I have come to one conclusion because I can repeat it.
If you are closing or opening the keyboard, but you do it quickly (like slamming the keyboard shut or open), it will turn off. Also, if you squeeze it while it is closed, it turns off. And I have made sure im not hitting the power button.
Try it and see what happens.
Yeah, it does it when you slide it out really fast. Noticed that. Haven't been able to repeat it every time, but the times it does shut-off, its from sliding it open fast. Now to understand why this happens, since it didn't do this in the past.
I've been trying some WM6 roms on my M3100 (Black and two versions from Faria so far, along with HardSPL and the latest radio rom). While they all seem to work very stably for the most part, I find that if I turn the wireless on after a few minutes the phone starts reading constant tapping on the top right corner. So if I'm in landscape mode, the Start menu keeps popping in and out, and if I'm in portrait it hits the close button and everything I've got open disappears.
I've read about some Hermes having alignment issues, but I'm not sure this is to do with alignment, it seems to read other taps correctly if I touch the screen while it's malfunctioning, but it doesn't stop reading tapping in the top right.
A soft reset or turning the wireless off usually cures it for a while, but as soon as the Wi-Fi is on it can start again. If I turn the phone off fully, it seems to last longer when the Wi-Fi is on. It's almost like it's overheating and turning it off means it starts off cooler and has longer to heat up. Black was much worse than Faria's for this, as it had more stuff running by default. I had a devil of a time getting it stable enough for ActiveSync to work so I could flash something else.
I've tried searching the forums and I couldn't see anything, but I might not be using the right search terms. Has anyone seen this before and can you offer any advice/fixes? If not I'll probably make the long slog back to WM5!
Thanks for any help you can give.
This is a common problem with the Hermes. Search for touchscreen problems and you'll find you're not the only one with the problem. My previous one had the exact same symtoms, only it did it when the ambient temp was about 90F or so. I'd advise you to either look at getting it repaired, or look for another one. It's not going to fix itself

also try the business card fix on your hermes maybe your screen protector is hitting or the foam liner inside has jammed itself. or maybe something like a piece if dirt has lodged itself in there. there are many things that could cause this some being hardware other being dirt dust chunks of stuff
If it appears when it heats up (sounds like it does), chances are you're looking at a repair/warranty. Just sent one in to HTC with the same problem. I replaced the screen myself and thought for a day or two it was fixed, but as soon as it went on the charger for the first time the phantom tapping returned.
Thanks for the help guys! I'll have a look and see if there's anything trapped in the corner or if the seal is pressing on it and if not I'll get it repaired/swapped.
unfortunately, my M3100 does the same problem as yours, photoboy..
i noticed the problem starts when the pda gets warm..
anyway, tomorrow i'll take the "toy" to warranty.. and see how it can be fixed
hello,
I have noticed that sometimes when opening an SMS , if i slide out the keyboard the phone crashes and needs a hard reset.
do you think that there is any solution for this?
Try flashin another rom to narrow down and see if it's a hardware issue. if it was the the rom causing it. post in his thread instead of opening a new thread.
I think you mean a soft reset. If you had to do a hard reset you would have to load all the software again. Just trying to clarify things for others to help you.
Happens (soft reset required) with my stock [email protected] rom occasionally.
yeah soft-reset is needed
any ideas?
i also asked in the thread for my rom version
i just had mine yesterday and its still the basic 6.1 version.
everytime i slide the keyboard, everything just seems to lag for some times before magically returns to normal. Same thing happen when i slide the keyboard back.
This might related somehow to the TC question....is this normal? I've searched and found nothing
This is happening to me and a collegue on our recently purchased T-Mobile htc tp2. This seems to be somewhat of a recurring issue on tp2 from what I have been reading... some people say it is a problem on the mother board of the thing... hope someone has something different to say!!
I have the same issue with my stock tilt 2, it only happens from time to time. Last night when i set my phone down on my center consule in my truck i noticed the phone shut down as well. When i turned it back on i pressed on the back of the phone with the cover on and it shut down again. When i took the cover off thinking the battery might be loose somehow the phone didn't shut off while pressing down on the battery. I put the cover on again and it shut off when i pressed on it but i can't figure out what it is
Try this HTC HotFix
HotFix for ATT Fuse SMS bug from HTC.

Recently I began to notice a problem with my phone. Whenever I have the keyboard slid out the touch screen is almost non-responsive. So over the past few days I've tried observing what the exact problem is and I think it could be the cable/ribbon that connects the touch screen to the keyboard. I'll have to tilt the screen back and forth before it will actually recognize me touching it. And I've noticed when I rub that ribbon it seems to work. There's also a crease in the ribbon where it folds on it when you close it. I believe this is the problem but I'm not sure and I want any advice/tips I can get. If it is the cable can you order a new one and replace it yourself?
Thanks in advance
Any ideas anyone? I cant get it to half work so I can text and stuff but I have to press it hard and it still wont work at times so something somewhere or another is wrong.

Flash the stock ROM and SPL, and do a warranty exchange. This isn't a device you want to open up unless you really know what you're doing and are certain of the issue. If you really want to give it a go, then just buy a non-functioning unit from eBay to use for parts. They can normally be had for less than $40.
Wow, I cant believe that I finally found someone with the same problem as I have.
At first I thought that it was a software issue and I reloaded the software on my device.
The screen responds to presses with the keyboard in, but extended it doesnt respond and only the external keyboard works.
So to type a nice long sms I would have to start it on my display, flick out the keyboard to carry on and then flick it back in before I could press send or anything.
How frustrating.
But I did a test now and flicking the keyboard out and then slowly slowly pushing it back in I can get to a stage where both the external keyboard and screen responds at the same time again.
Definitely a ribbon problem or something.
Only had this phone for a few months now and if it already doing this then I am not feeling too obtimistic about its future.
Well, time to take it in for a warranty repair. I wonder how much greaf I am in for now.
Time to pull out my awesome trusty Artemis out the cuboard.

I had a friend that had this problem with his TP2 which I've successfully repaired. First thing if you want to do it yourself, go to youtube and look for the Rhodium disassembly video (this will help you a lot). It is not difficult to change any parts in the phone provided that you proceed with caution and take the necessary precautions.
If you are afraid or have never opened up a phone to fix parts, then I would suggest to send it to HTC - this would be devastating if you managed to break up the motherboard by mistake or any other parts in the process of fixing the flex cable.
Tripp --
Did you ever find resolution to your problem? Recently my phone started having the same problem, which I originally thought was related to messing up the calibration file when I put loaded xdandroid GBX0A.
However, it sounds like my problem is pretty similar to yours -- touchscreen works fine when the keyboard is closed, but when it is open it only registers on the bottom of the screen -- which is actually useful in some sense because I can still hit the soft keys in the messaging app and such, but not so useful if you want to scroll using the touch screen. If I play around with the z-hinge a bit, sometimes it starts working -- which sounds like the same thing that you described.
Sorry, I just seen your post but I never fixed mine as I went ahead and bought another phone (Evo) but I did research the problem quite extensively and the problem I believe lies in the ribbon that connects the two halves of the phone. If I remember correctly the motherboard is in the side with the keyboard and that's why when it's slide out, the touch screen won't respond correctly. You can find the part online and replace it yourself. I've taken mine apart and it's not that hard but as said, you need the right tools and to be very careful.
Hi guys
I have tried all the above
Last resort is i got sprite backyup to work
BUT HOW THE HELL DO YOU HIT "NEXT" OR "OK" FROM THE KEYBOARD AS SCREEN DOESNT WORK????
Last night I updated to the latest ics update so I'm on 4.0.4. I've noticed it shuts off by itself occasionally. Even now at work, phone is laying flat and it shut off once. Also this morning driving to work phone was on my dash and it shut off. Both times phone was in sleep mode and I didn't know it shut off completely until I tried to turn screen on with volume keys or power button. I would then of course have to hold down power button to start phone up again. I haven't rooted or anything , I'm stock. I've tried tapping the back by the battery to see if something was loose but nothing happened.
Maybe some of you guys have experienced the same. Will this go away when I start rooting and romming ,or do I have defective hardware?
So no-one? So far I looked online and someone mentioned putting paper under battery to hold it tighter against contacts? I'm trying that but not sure if it's making battery hotter. I'll see if that works.
Also called Google just in case I have to go through the returning process which I hope not to go through this is what they emailed me for my issue.
" Greetings and salutations,
Thank you for contacting Google. It was my pleasure assisting you today. Many issues can be resolved by performing a hard reset by removing the battery or by factory data resetting your device, but first I'd like you to try removing the battery, wiping it clean with lint free cloth, as well as the prongs that connect to the battery itself. Try this a few times, if it does not work this should. Be sure to backup any personal files you may have on the device.
To factory data reset your device, touch the Settings icon from your ‘Home’ or ‘All Apps’ screen, then select ‘Backup & reset’ under ‘Personal.’
If you're unable to get to your Settings menu, follow the steps below:
1. Power down your device 2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter Bootloader mode 3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option 4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode 5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then press the Volume up button. 6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset. 7. Select Yes -- delete all user data. 8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished, select 'Reboot system now.

I better root and try a Rom asap huh?
I'd say get a replacement for it while you still can.
yeah getting a replacement could be the wisest thing to do
altho if when you received it in 4.0.1 it wasnt randomly shutting then something might've gone wrong with the update so you can unlock your bootloader and flash some ROMs to see how that goes
I definitely want to try some roms before I replace it as I have some time under Samsung's waranty. I also want to gently pull the contacts out a bit with small pliers to see if it holds the battery better. I'll even clean the contacts.
Man I'm hoping it's software ...

Gently pull the contacts out? Wouldn't that void your warranty? I'd be careful with the hardware if I were you.
Unless your battery contacts on the phone are smashed/deformed, it is unlikely that the battery connection is being physical broken at the contacts. The battery fits fairly snug in the compartment and the contacts stay touching even when the battery is partially removed. Probably no benefit to placing a piece of paper in there. Also keep in mind your NFC is in the battery.
I am also using a "Yakju" device from Google Play. No similar issue on 4.0.4 stock or CM9. At least not this nightly build : )
I actually got the GSM nexus yesterday and I had the exact same problem. The phone powered itself off twice. Once right after I turned it on and again about two hours later. Both times it occurred when I was moving around with the phone.
I pulled the battery and popped it back in a few times and it hasn't happened since.

You guys are probably right. The battery does already feel snug in there.
As I'm reading through forums for my issue, I can't believe how many sgn users are experiencing the same thing I am, some even reboots. Alot of them think it's apps. Good chance I'll exchange for the another device with same issue. I'm starting to wonder if this is why Google dropped the price.
Can't wait to get home and mess with this more. Hopefully I can make it go away.
I had this same problem when I first got mine with random reboots an powering off by itself, after about 2 weeks the problem went away, don't ask me how it seem to magically go away by itself maybe because battery needed time to settle in with the charging process.

I'm happy to report, knock on wood, that after I factory reset the phone the problem seems to have gone away. Last night I used the toolkit to unlock bootloader and root, and I flashed cm9 nightly and all is good so far. My only problem now is I dont know which rom to try next
I definitely want something with led customizations like cm9 has, thats just so old school reminds me of a blackberry .
Any suggestions, I guess I can also ask elsewhere.

I had light flow going when my phone would shut itself off. It doesnt include alot of the apps I use to customize so I'm not the biggest fan of it now. I think the cm9 led customizations is sufficient as it lets you add any of your apps regardless.
Aokp has more features and is most popular so you could try that. Then try paradigm rom. I done use light flow, I just have a few led colors from stock and its enough for me for now. Google voice green, handcent texts blue, and Gmail and calls white. All from the stock apps.
Black ice is good so far. So many different variations of aokp roms I guess, its hard to recommend the "best" one.
