Prune imported contacts - Desire General

Every time I do a hard reset, my People fills up with hundreds of email addresses of people I haven't contacted for ages.
I have to delete then one by one. Is there some way to save this pruned contact list so that it is imported next time I do a hard reset?
Or alternatively, is there some way to delete all email address so there are just phone numbers left?
And finally, where does this list initially come from?
Ta,
Joe

Issue With New Qtek Rom - Email accounts cannot be deleted!!

Hi
Just a heads up. There appears to be an issue with the new QTEK rom (at least, I never experienced this before upgrading).
Create an email account, soft reset. Delete that email account, then soft reset again - result is that the old deleted account rises from the dead.
If, after doing the above you then delete the account, create a new account and then soft reset then the original account rises from the dead and the new account is deleted.
Unfortunately this issue makes the latest rom unusable for me.
Anyone know where the info about email accounts gets stored. I wanna trash it properly to stop it coming back.
Nigel
Lol
Delete the files in your pop3 inbox, goto tools, empty deleted items. Do a send/recieve to delete them from pop3 server.
Now soft reset - all the ruddy deleted emails come back as well!!
Unbelievable...
Time for **another** hard reset and **another** wasted ~2hrs setting the ruddy thing up again. Wish I had stuck with my old rom.
Nigel
I guess that no one else has seen this then :-( !!
Dont suppose anyone knows where files related to an email account are stored? and where the registry keys live?
Nigel
his happened to me after a backup and restore of my device. There is one thing you can do to fix it, download SPB backup (that is what I use), and back up the device. Do a hard reset and clear all your information. Adjust the date and time and do a partial restore without your email information. This should remedy the problem.

Issues with Contacts

Hi,
I've 2 minor issues with the contact application.
At first I always had my contacts sorted by Last Name, First Name, but on the Desire I can't find an option to set this kind of sorting for all contacts stored on the phone.
And second I've stored all Birthdays within the contacts (birthday-field), but they aren't showing up in the calendar-application.
Any Ideas?
Calendar, no idea sorry...
As for sorting contacts Last name, First name
only way I've found is "Edit Contact" in people, then tap the name at the top where you edit the numbers... You then choose display as "Last Name, First Name"...
I've not found a global setting to do this as yet though... I guess I should read the manual!
I've noticed that any birthday you enter on the phone will not get updated to the online accout. I've no idea why that is. I haven't yet got an answer from HTC. In fact, my email seems to be completely ignored so I have to email them again.
You may also find that any new contact you enter on the phone, that you enter with a birthday, will either get deleted on the phone on the next sync, or never show up online.
I saw the setting for the display mode in the contact details, too.
But I don't think people want to configure all their contacts manually. Shouldn't be a problem for a smartphone to do it global.

Delete old emails from Trash ?

So, does anyone have a tip for deleting all the old emails that fill up the Trash folder for accounts ? My old Desire had a 'select all' option......but cannot see anything like this for the Play ?
I have 6 email accounts accessed through the default Email client > when I delete them from the respective (or Combined) Inbox, they go to the respective Trach folder > this takes up space......I removed 457 emails from one account's Trash folder last night, and it took some time !
IIRC, deleting Data in the Applications menu of Settings will clear all account settings too....so that is a non-starter. The overall MB use of Mail was almost completely cleared down after last night's deleting session, but I am really hoping there is a better solution to properly removing lots of mails ???
I will be interested in this also. Having to delete everything and then go to trash and delete it again isn't the best use of time.
the way i removed them, however this may not be efficient for you was to delete the email account i use and then re add it, it will wipe all the mailboxes
One of the more retarded "features" of android, there is no way to "Empty Trash". Just select each one by hand and delete it again. Good luck.
Yeah the stock email app is horrible...
Give one of the other email clients in the Market a try
Thanks for replies......
Shame SE hasn't done something similar to HTC, then, as the Desire had a menu option to (De)Select All, making Trash removal a doddle.
TBH, not sure why the app keeps all the Trash items anyway ?!?!

I find the people app useless. How can I make it useful?

I get tons of phone numbers (IE: [email protected], for example) and people that I've contacted once through gmail or something from things like craigslist. Does google seriously think I'm going to contact a person I bought a lawn mower off of 10 months ago, so they save the number for me? It's so useless, or I'm doing it wrong.
Open the people app. Press the menu list on the bottom right. Choose contacts to display. Then, custom. There you can choose which groups to display.
by default, it will sync with all your contacts from gmail. And gmail, by default, adds every email from every person that you've ever received or sent an email to. But, I highly recommend going into gmail contacts (on your computer), and cleaning up your contacts. and also change the gmail setting so that every email address you send to or get an email from is not automatically added to your contacts. I had never bothered to do that before I got this phone. but the hour or so that I spent cleaning up my contacts in gmail was definitely worth the time and effort.
I find it useful to display only contacts for which you have their phone numbers. Presumably those are the ones you keep closer in touch with. This will sieve away the ones you contact only via gmail, as you mentioned.

[Q] Can't separate joined contacts

I noticed one of my contacts on my phone was somehow showing up as three separate contacts, even though on Google's contact list they're all just one. So I went through and "joined" them. But I got carried away and accidentally joined all the "suggested" contacts, including one that was actually a different person.
I immediately went back and used "separate," but it didn't actually separate the contacts - instead, I have one contact with both contacts' emails and phone numbers. Worse, my phone thinks they're separated, so I no longer have the "separate" option. But when I check my contacts in Gmail or contacts.google.com on my desktop, I still see two separate contacts.
Any suggestions?
Sync with Gmail
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
It's synced contacts with Google a few times already and it's still showing one contact.
I would suggest deleting the errantly-joined contact(s) and then re-adding them. It's probably the simplest approach if this is a one time problem.

Click to collapse
clear contact app data and have it resync with google.
I had the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I tried a different approach and it seemed to work. I just deleted one of the accounts from my phone and then re-added it. After it synced up the joined contacts were now separated. Because the data is all saved in the cloud this method doesn't require you to delete and then type in any contact information. If you have lots of joined contacts however it will break all of those links. If you just need to separate a single contact it will probably be easier to just delete and recreate that single contact.
