debrand t mobile desire - Desire General

Hi my brother as just got is desire which is on t-mobile uk
is there a way of debranding his phone so he gets all of t-mobile rubbish off
hope i post this in the right place

There really isn't much "rubbish" on a T-Mobile Desire in the first place, unlike Orange!
Personally, if this is your only reason for wanting to debrand, I wouldn't bother.
If you want to install custom ROMs etc, follow any of the guides on this forum.
Regards,
Dave

Ok thanks for the info Dave
more likely root it then

all their stuff? i only see a logo on bootup and their name on the drop down menu. it isn't like they've orangeified the thing.

Don't forget the tiny "W'n'W' on the browser icon!

[Q] CDMA Desire (US Cellular)

I just saw a video review of US Cellular's new CDMA version of the HTC Desire. No doubt the people who buy this phone will discover all sorts of information on this forum... info that could (I'd imagine) seriously harm their phone if they try to flash their CDMA Desire with a GSM Desire ROM!
Might it be appropriate to give this variant its own subforum? Or failing that, post some prominent warnings that the US Cellular HTC Desire is a significantly different piece of hardware?
I guess nobody with one of these has discovered the forum here yet?
(noob here). Can it really cause that much problems? I'm going to be picking up the Desire from Telus soon. Are you saying that I won't be able to use the current custom ROMS?

The Telus Desire is not CDMA - it's GSM/HSPA like all the others. Custom ROMs will work as long as they support the SLCD screen (some are written only for AMOLED screens).
I'm specifically talking about the US Cellular HTC Desire, which is the first CDMA version to be released.
And so it begins...

I have mine as well. Can we root with the guides using the desire from other carriers?

And has anyone who has gotten the new USC Desire, have you tried the current root method to see if it works. I have doubts that it will.

agree with the OP.
just like the sprint hero and the GSM hero.
need to be a subsection. like you said it could seriously damage the phones if they flash the wrong things. hope a mod creates a different section soon.
+1 on that. There's a lot of people out there who don't even know the different between GSM & CDMA.
Also, it would help for development in general (root and roms.)
I really think the mods should open seperate forums for Desire GSM and Desire CDMA, because as both phones use completely different radios, chances are it will wreck the phone if you put a GSM ROM on a CDMA phone.
Anyone know who any of the mods for the Desire forum are? I would just PM them but I'm not sure who they are.

Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
Don't remember there being a specific place for this here @ XDA.
But very social of you for doing so anyway, welcome.
And don't brick your device and be sure to sim unlock first if your locked to Orange with a Desire.

should i root my phone?

i don't know whether i should root my phone because i am afraid of bricking it, but there are too much limitations with unrooted phone.
It's really up to you, it isn't that risky if you have enough knowledge to do everything exactly according to the guides.

Tell us your build number. It is in settings-about-software information. Then ppl can tell you what to do next.

No offense, but you need a little knowledge to root and flash a custom rom. This isn't meant for the average user. It feels like everyone who gets an android phone nowadays (as it's becoming a more popular OS) want's to root and flash a custom rom as soon as they have in their hands without even knowing what it really means. The information to do all this is available here on this forum in form of guides which in most of the cases are quite extensive. If you want to root and flash a custom rom etc, you will have to do some reading on your own.
AFAIK this forum isn't here to hold the hands of android virgins as they try modify their phones without even knowing what a command prompt is. Almost every day someone new wants step by step instructions for this and for that even though there are good instructions out there. This forum is meant for people with some experience and knowledge that want to get the most out of our phones. New members are ofcourse welcome, but please, do some studying on your own too.
I was so scared to root my first phone last week. I sat for three hours reading guides over and over again to make sure I new what I was doing and I havent regretted doing it.
Too often I come across threads like this, if your not sure then you probably don't need to root, yet! If you decide to root read the stickies in the development thread, and don't say you havent got time to read a 100 page thread it'll be a lot quicker than fixing your DHD when it's buggered up
Hi ghostofcain
I hope you do not take offence to my reply.

I DIDN'T need to downgrade first and simply followed the video on the bottom of this page.
(Youtube version)
I then simply installed CM7 rom via Rom Manager.
(I am rarely sick but I had been quite ill and in a lot of pain for a few days which was a shock to the system, and when I did get better, I had the mindset that nothing matters at all.) It's not easy for most folk to feel that way. Life is a game. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Unless you are unhappy or bored with Sense or the performance of your phone - there isn't too much reason to root in my opinion.

Best thing i ever did. I had a jailbroken iphone before i got my Desire HD so rooting was the first thing i looked at when i got my HD, getting rid of the branding was the main reason but then i realized how many Roms were out there and now its hard to choose which one to use :

Thanks very much.
There's a lot of changes and benefits if you root your phone and install a custom ROM... First, there are a lot of custom ROMs, for any taste. MIUI imitate the iOS system, with the liberty of Android OS, for example, and RevoHD leave the original SENSE ROM, with improvements of course.
Then, custom ROMs have some interesting tweaks, like zipalign, the ads removing and a better management of the RAM.
To finish, I did it myself (running the MIUI ROM by Rey) and I have no regrets. After reading a few tutorials it was easy as ABC !
Like it was said before It's up to you, I dont intend to convince anyone, but If you wanna do it, go doing some searches. This forum has some tutorials, and anyone, even a noob can understand them.

rooting my desire

getting fed up of my running out of memory when i have hardly anything installed and i now want to root my desire to the latest and best rom
but i have no idea how to do it ive had a look at doing it but its soo confusing with all the topics about rooting can anyone show/tell me what the best way of rooting my desire is thanx in advance
Hello,
Glad you've decided to root! Best thing to do is to give this entire tutorial a read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
Once you've done that the rest is pretty straight forward, that's where I started .
As I'm on my phone now I'm feeling pretty lazy in answering fully, but if you have any more problems, feel free to message here again or send me a PM and I'll give you a hand / lead you in the right direction to rooting.
And also, the "best" ROM is personal preference, whether you like the feel and look of Sense, or whether you'd want to go Open Source, such as Cyanogen or Oxygen.
Hope that guide works for you!
Dan.

HTC Desire (Telenor)

Xda, hello.
I'm not new here but then again I am new to the Desire section.
Anyhow, I'm seeking if anyone has rooted a HTC Android 2.2.2 but on Norweign Telenor.
I'm a Skyrocket user hence why I don't know jack about the desire. A relative has returned from Norway with a telenor Desire (service plan not active)
Mainly posting simply because I wanted to be pointed in the correct direction and not run around like a headless chicken.
Thanks!
-_-
What happened to the information users of xda?
Them users nonexistent?
Not asking for a $100 donation. Just asking for a little informational help.
