Does anyone know if 3D android games will work properly for the touch pro 2 running android? For example, anyone tried N.O.V.A. and other really 3D games? Thanks everyone.
They might run, but very slowly though. Reason being because hardware3D isn't fully workn or implemented on this build yet. Its coming soon. So for now, everything is software rendered or something. Overclocking will help speed up apps and games but it can't justify the hardware3d not working. Try some out for urself and see. Id say if the app or game isn't too 3d intense, then it'll run it. Run an app or game that's very 3D intense, and it'll run slow or slow down device. I've tried some. They work but not fast enough. With this build they getting the essentials wrking first then everything else will follow. I've got a feeling very soon there will be some Major updates. If u must , then overclock. Overclocking will help out with games in the meantime until they finally finish implementing hardware3d/open gl.

I bought 'Super KO Boxing 2 ' which seemed to have great reviews. The only issue with the current build is it's fast enough to be playable but is still pretty slow. The file is also large so you need to install it to the SD.
If I was you I would hold out on 3D games until OpenGL has been sorted. Other than that you can always download normal games that don't use much graphics.
Even if we manage to get OpenGL, I'm not sure whether the TP2 can handle 3D games smoothly. We'll have to wait and see. :S
yep 3d games would be difficult to run smoothly enough to play with the current builds, so all you can do is wait and play 2d games that are fun. a game i play some what is world war, its pretty much just to waste time for me when im bored. either that or abduction world attack which is very fun
@ demandarin: i bet you cant go 10 post without mentioning overclocking in it , lol nah im just kidding, overclocking is great but i swear my phone doesnt like me everytime i try it out and yes i do put in the right amount. but thats another story.
i highly recommend doodle jump, super fun and addicting game that runs in 2D.
can anyone beat my highscore of 86,000?

Thanks for all your replies. By the way, is it better to get a decent android device than to get a touch pro 2 and run android on that. If anyone has the limitations of android on the touch pro 2, that would be appreciated. I wanna buy something that would last a while but I'm on a budget . Is the android on the touch pro 2 customizable like the android on a real android device (I mean if the most apps run smoothly like aHome and others). Thanks in advance!!

id say get a phone with android preinstalled on it. it will run way better, has newer hardware and will most likely have a capacitative screen
yep id have to say get an original android. if anything i would probably say to get a g1 because its the first android and still gots a hardware keyboard and should still be pretty cheep if you buy it on craigslist or ebay or something.
or maybe get the vogue, since its way more up ahead on the android development with ROMS and i think its cheeper to buy also
Okay, i know this is kinda off topic but if you have apk files for android, to install them, do I simply use a file browser and open to install? By the way, I don't think the Vogue is an android device by stock. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
yeah using a file explorer is a way to install .apk, just use something like astro or the one that came with the android build and then just go to the location of where its at and click on it. o and more than likely your gonna get a security warning the first time, it will redirect you to the settings for you to switch it if you want.
and yeah the vogue is not a stock android, thats why i said its in the farest in the android development. that way you can just put a ROM and replace WM in total or use the packages and still use there WM. but hey that was just as a way to save alittle bit more so you can just go with the g1.
So you can totally flash android on the Vogue? Thanks for your replies by the way. Besides those 2 devices, what else are some economical choices?
How many of you guys are going to start playing this game once it comes out on August 5th?
In my personal opinion, the name is kind of stupid but from watching the video below it looks like is going to be a HUGE hit!!
ugh. the game looks kinda nifty, but man, I can't stand that Chris Chavez guy. and his hair. and his voice.
i skipped ahead like 5 mins, thinking I could get past it/him, just get to some gameplay, but no, the f*cker was still talking talking talking...

I don't know but I'm sure if they want to go head to head with the best like Angry Birds and all the other addicting games, they better come out with either a LITE version or make it free.........but that's just my two cents, hahaha
I'll be rocking this FUC#ER out when it comes out for sure!!!!

It's only available for nvidia tegra devices
Get Chainfire3D from market, instal the driver, and get tegra plugin for it. use the "fix market settings" to get acces to all the tegra games on market, then when you have the game, go to chainfire, and enable the tegra driver for the app that needs it, and you should be runing it just fine.. some OC might be needed for older phones.
since this is in evo4g...should run just fine.
Runs fine on desire Z whit 1.1Ghz OC

I had heard of Chainfire3D, but I hadn't heard much about its stability with the EVO 4g. The EVO wasn't listed amongst the supported devices, and comments from EVO users, although positive, were in the minority. Has anyone heard more about Chainfire3D specifically with this phone?
I have SGS 2.
does anyone know of a working gamecube ROM?

not unless someone makes a gamecube emulator
someone should get on that, I have no idea where to start.. but if someone can point me in the right direction.. Ill at least give it a try.
Probably not possible for the Epic 4G Touch. Look at Dolphin for example, and the hardware requirements that it needs.
Dolphin barely runs well on PC. I think the best you can hope for is Dreamcast emulation... But that's kind of dead, and has been for like a year.

By next year, cell phones will have the same chipsets as current desktops (probably as fast as the i7 from intel). It's only a matter of time before Android/iPhone gets gamecube emulator.
EDIT: I'm not very knowledgeable about software emulation, but it seems that our current processors, which are hardly half as fast as the average desktop can run N64oid quite well, in some cases, better than Project64 can on Desktop.
I used to be pretty heavily into emulation, and I remember one of the MAME developers (Haze) saying it takes nearly 4x the power of the original game hardware capacity to emulate the old hardware correctly. But MAME does it's emulation without any hacks, or hardware accelleration. It could go the route of ePSXe and use plugins, and it wouldn't require anything more than we currently have. Anyway, just some thoughts, I am by no stretch a programmer. This thread makes me want to update my MAME set, something I haven't done in years. I wonder how big it is now?

I got an upgrade available to get a play for $50, and I'm wondering how great they are. I've been getting annoyed at the touch screen controls for gaming, and want a controller finally.
However, I'm worried as to how smooth, responsive, and great the graphics are with psx emulators or games like GTA3.
My Atrix is unlocked, rooted, and running CM7.
I saw quadrant scores at ~1700 with xperia play and got worried seeing as I score ~3500 no problem, and with Antutu the Atrix gets much much higher scores than the play especially in 3D and CPU.
Does anyone have experience with both phones and can give me some ideas as to how they perform against eachother?
with the exception of the screen, the play is going to be slightly slower/worse in most respects, mine generally doesnt lag, but it happens on occasion, the tegra2 gpu is not much better than whats in the play, so gaming wise its not far behind the atrix. the browser is ok, but im expecting a big boost to usability on that front when we get ics with hw acceleration. As a phone, the play is pretty good, not amazing, but it gets the job done.
It really comes down to the hw controller, yes, theres plenty of phones out that are better than the play, but if u want to play a game, i would take the play, every time. playing things like sonic cd, or super metroid, mario 64, crash bandicoot, etc etc etc(i have about 6k+ games on my phone, ranging from nes through to n64 and everything in between almost) the play dominates the competition, 99% of those games play and feel as good or better than they originally did to play....and that in itself is amazing, and its not just emulators the games on the market are very often xplay optimized as well, its kinda suprising given the plays relatively small market share just how many are actually optimized for this little unit.
i bought mine for $450 outright with the option of an sgs2 at about $550, maybe 6 months ago, and do not regret the purchase, ive used a few sgs2's and whilst nice, good luck playing a game an enjoying it, im not sure what im gonna do if they dont end up releasing a play 2....

Couldn't have said it better myself
Although I can say that GTA runs fine for me. I'm not sure how it runs on the Atrix, but on the Play it runs pretty much the same as the PS2 version
Upgraded from an unlocked 1.3 OCed Atrix I like my play much better. Most apps are written to work on 600—800 MHZ single cores so basically the second core doesn't do much. And most "tegra exclusive" games have ported to other phones and run 100% smooth (beat GOF2 two months ago)

How did GOF2 perform with the graphics and framerate? Did it look the same?
Also, how good is the responsiveness on websites, flash, streaming YouTube, Netflix, and texting in general?
Also, are you able to use the SD to install apps? That's one big thing I don't like is storage space.
My xperia play is extremely responsive in the internet browser and pretty much any other app that I use. I upgraded from an OG droid like a year ago and the xperia play felt incredibly fast. I just overclocked my xperia play to 1.6ghz now and it's even more fast. PSX emulation's performance is to the point where it feels as if it were made for the xperia play; the games just work flawlessly with the game pad. I have grand theft auto 3 also and it plays really smooth.

Very nice hearing that.
I still need to figure out if there's a way to use my 16gb as card for app storage because I have roughly 10gbs of apps/games on my phone.
I'd use up that 400mb in a second.
Also, can I adjust the PPI or resolution to match that of the Atrix since the screens are the same size?
Is there any video out for gaming on a TV?
Overall, I'm probably going to get it and sell my Atrix, I'm just trying to plan for it since my biggest problem is that memory issue. Going from 16gb internal to 400mb is a rough one for me.

I have like 76 apps and the majority give you the option to put most of the app data on your sd card. i have 182mb internal free space with all these apps, but I did remove all of the stock verizon apps too
I used titanium backup to force move a majority of my apps to the sdcard. Have over 300 apps and still have around 180mb of free space. Have my phone overclocked to 1.2 and it just flies. I am running the Verizon stock Tom minus all the crapware they put on. Great phone, love it. Games like shadowgun, modern combat 3 are all smooth and awesome to play.

the xperia play is a great phone
but i see it as if you have to consider the benefits of a xperia play over another phone then the xperia probably isnt for you. most people will instantly see that the hardware controls are its selling point and buy it for that. to use for emulators mostly.
Just tried out a xperia play today, I'm going to buy one. They got a sale right now that its free with a 2 year contract. It was smooth online and the launcher was awesome. I tried asphalt 6 on it and compared it to my phone in HD, and I couldn't notice the HD difference, but it ran perfect.
Ill be buying it next week and selling my Atrix for $200 so basically I get 2.5 months free

You can use a stock Motorola 16 gb SD on this phone, it comes with an 8. I just swapped them between my Droid and this when I got it. However you're better off buying a Sandisk 32 GB class 4 card if you want the best performance.
There is no video out.
You also cannot adjust the screen resolution unless you root the device.
I find it amazing that a phone with a gamepad doesn't have a video out..

Galaxy on Fire plays pretty well... I'm midway through it, and I've had my share of action with lots of ships and all around shooting and what not, and the Play delivers flawlessly.

Right now im bored because im not unlocked yet. Still gotta pay that guy $25 to get it done.

I'm not first nor last who is asking that question, but now, with the quad-core Tegra 3 phones it could be possible to emulate PSP (or even PS2).
So, is there/anyone working on something of that kind?
And please, don't flame me, I'm aware of another simmilar threads, but none of them are "fresh" ones.
i'm pretty sure this is the answer:
the resources that would be needed to emulate the ps2s hardware is too much currently. i think unless somebody wrote a specific tegra 3 ps2 emulator, it *might* be possible, but even then wouldn't be perfect. there would be framerate drops etc etc.
i know theres some for pcs, but obviously pc cpus/gpus are a bit more mature, and obviously have specific instruction sets etc that can be utilized more efficiently.
Nope, not even the more powerful SGS III can do that. Up till now, only PS One can be emulated.

Fixed also I can sell you an anti flame vest for $200 usd. You might need it.
As for psp and ps2 emulation is very primitive on the pc right now so I don't expect a emu any time soon on android and fyi my buddies i5 desktop pc can barely run ps2 games at full speed. I don't expect an android device to get close to that.

Yeah, you're right, even in PCSX2 on my 3,1 GHz i5 & Radeon HD6870 machine with 8GB RAM are some games pretty slow sometimes. But I'm using some graphics enhancements (like antialiasing etc.), so I was thinking about original PS2-like graphics...
Nevermind, it was just an idea. I should sleep more and think less.
I should've been happy for PS1 emulator right now.
