Change evdo/cdma buffersize? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So one of the best changes ever found for my palm pre was changing the buffer size from 7 to 20. Yet when using the ##3282# (##data#) hash code on my EVO; I can't find aplace to modify the buffer size. Is this not possible on an Android device? Yes I have the msl code.

no one knows?

Hehe... sorry if it sounds bad... but I highly doubt any of us ever even looked a palm pre... but apparently it has a nice feature

< deleted >

Its a standard component of the evdo signal controls. Can be done on MANY CDMA phones including verizon ones.
Complain about the pre as you like, but i could get 2.7 mbps downlink speeds whereas right now with the evo im struggling to get 1. Blows. The pre overclocked to 800 mhz also was a bit faster, not to mention MUCH better battery life.

I never had a pre, but I found this in a pre forum. I have been looking myself. This would be HUGE if its found to work.

Edit: Did my link get deleted? Reposting in the event that I just forgot it the first time.

Good to see you again itmusybejj, I was researching this tonight myself and wondered if we can change the buffer size on the Evo. Anyone had any luck finding this out yet??
Edit: Has anyone been able to get the ##3836# (evdo) hash code to work on the Evo?? It does nothing for me.

It was working for me last night. Just don't have my msl to enter into the password field. Ill find some screencaps.

I don't understand why I can't use the EVDO hash if someone else can....hmmm

In the pre it was done via ##3282# . The it could be modified. I have yet to find a way around this.

1.32.651.6

When I entered the ##data# code, it loaded a menu/program called EPST with 2 options: view mode & edit mode. Edit mode asks for a password; view mode let's you look through all the settings. And there are some interesting ones... EVDO, WiMAX, and a couple others that bring up all kinds of settings.

Yes, under ##data# most of the settings are the same under the pre, but there is nowhere to change buffer size. in the pre it was under multimedia (which isnt on here).

I looked through every EPST menu I know of, but nothing to adjust buffer size.
Here are the ones I looked through (except otksl, because I don't have that):
##your msl number#(##000000#)
##your otksl number#(##000000#)
##data# (##3282#)
##debug#(##33284#)
##diag#(##3424#)
##rtn#(##786#)
##prl#(##775#)
##prev#(##7738#)
##akey#(##2539#)
##vocoder# (##8626337#)

PRL Changer / Manager App

Does such a beast exist?
Looking for an app that would allow me to quickly change PRL's rather than going through the long manual method using computer.
Don't HTC phones have this option?....is it something that can be tweaked or ported to work on other phones?
I'd be willing to donate to the cause if one doesn't exist and one of the smart cookies on here feel like tackling it

when i had my evo, i could flash prl zips... im with you. it would be amazing if we could do the same on our et4gs!!
Exactly..
I am wondering the same thing...
Is there a way to use EPST.apk with your MIN and just flash your PRL of choice from the SD like on the HTC devices?
Good question i would like to know as well

Would this question be better proposed in the general android section than just confined to E4GT?

I thought epst required sense. I agree changing prls is a drag but how often do you do it? I do it maybe once or twice a year. For those few of times it's not a big deal to just use cdmaws. Both cdmaws 2.7 and qpst are both readily available and can easily change your prl.

[Q] Sense 3.5 roms and EPST

with EPST not working on most sense 3.5 roms could someone give me a detail option to edit things such as my sms server settings. on a couple sense 3.5 roms i can install EPST file and it will partial work enough to do what i need but one of the roms i want to run will start to work after i install EPST file but then never go into edit mode. any detailed help would be very much appreciated. thanks
Hiapn from market or Google or go SMS pro and change the apn on mms. Settings it will override stock apn with out actually changing it so it works on ics which blocked 3rd party apps from modifying the apn so short of manually changing it in the apk before flashing the rom go SMS is the only real option for ICS on other carriers for most people since they aren't comfortable modifying code I've seen a.few questions for ICS apn changes if someone could.tell me if they are generic for all devices on a carrier like all boost users have the same apn cricket etc I can make a ICS for each carrier with the settings pre set for each carrier, but if they are user specific I'd have to do it for each person so it would be easier to write up a how to

yes i have seen bits and pieces of information on changing code in like apn backup and restore but was not comfortable with my knowledge to attempt. i can install the epst to the 3.5 infected rom and edit my info but i like the radiance 3.5 and adding it will not work. but am able and willing to learn...thanks
in OP i said sms i meant MMS.....im very sorry for the confusion.....sms is working great....once again sorry for the typo.....thanks carp
Go SMS does SMS and mms u change the apn under mms settings in go to use your apn without actually changing it in the rom it basically proxys the apn for your carrier while leaving the apn in the phone intact hiapn /apn backup and restore change the apn in the phone itself like epst however ICS blocked that ability so gosms pro or manually modding the XML file are the only options for ics users, for your situation being a sense 3.5 android 2.3.x rom hiapn or apn backup restore would be your best options aside from using gosms pro as a 3rd party messaging app which has lots of customization and built in customizable popups and individual notification settings including changing the notification icon for individual contacts and the notification icon period to match your color scheme

surely it depends if the browser is a system app or not?
If it is a system app chances are it has permissions to dial out, if not, it won't
EDIT:
If you are on an ICS rom please try this from whatever browsers you have installed and let me know which browser, if its a system or data app and what happens.

Story from Android Central (pulled from my Twitter feed)
http://t.co/JpsZ5HZW
This is bad news folks... and if the factory reset one is done with an unsafe & unlocked recovery and kernel could mean triggering the bug = Partial or Full brick.
Samsung Galaxy Ace
Just tested this on a Galaxy Ace running CM7, the dialer was launched but the code did not work, bad news indeed for most (every?) samsung phone it seems
So apparently it's not just Samsung, and other browsers accept stock are fine? http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...eset-on-many-samsung-phones-running-touchwiz/

The AC article is saying it depends on the dialer. Seriously, how could you allow a factory reset via dialer and then allow it to be triggered via browser? That's a major bug and it needs to be squashed.
AC updated their article and is now hearing that JB builds for S3 may have this patched already. Also got a confirmation via Twitter from @SamsungSupport that this has been sent to the devs.
Well even the iPhone is mildly vulnerable as loading the proof page triggers a popup to call the number (pressing call does nothing though), and from the original thread having a different dialer still triggers the code (someone tried with GO Dialer iirc)
the feature in the browser is due to being able to tap a phone number and call someone. having dialer code to factory reset is stupid since its in the settings and recovery.
in other news you can find out more info at www.shabbypenguin.com/wont/wipe/your/phone.html
its safe, i promise
I just installed a second dialer, with none of them set as default so now i am prompted if a website puts that code into the frame. If you get prompted to launch dialer while visiting any site, of course you would just hit the back button. Temporary fix.
One can visit this site to test if their phone's dialer is vulnerable, I am running FI03 stock and surely enough it shows my IMEI code.
http://dylanreeve.com/phone.php <- just a site to test if you are vulnerable.
It showed mine and I'm on el29 GB
with stock browser
The code that's supposed to work on the S3 (*2676*3855#) doesn't work on the epic touch.
The factory reset dialercode for the epic/epic touch is *#767*3855#

Same on stock FI03, mainly because that specific code in those links don't necessarily pertain to our model but probably like an international version or the GS3

^^ This.
The dialer code for the e4gt is *#767*3855#
While the GS3 and Internation is *2767*3855#
So the sites that have to malicious frame in it for the other sgs2 models and s3 won't work on the epic touch.
Doesnt mean someone wont be imclusive and target muliple models...
Better safe than sorry
Tappin' Typin'
One could always target our device by using the same code that opens the dialer for the other devices but with our dialer code instead.
While it is unlikely, it is possible. Just be careful about what sites you are visiting. If it is something you are not familiar with, or it's not posted by a trusted source, don't click the link.

You'd think it would ask for something like the msl before doing a reset, for safety reasons, but I guess not.

Cm9 alternate dialer

Is there a file a can flash onto my epic 4g cm9 to install a different and easier looking dialer? I get a lot of new numbers (sometime 10 a night) and when I hand my phone to girls to enter in their number they ofter have trouble. When they need to backspace its hard to recognize the delete arrow button. When they enter in 10 digits it only shows the last 7 and not the area code so this briefly confuses them. I just want a simple dialer that I can hand a girl my phone to and she won't get confused entering in her number.

[Q] Custom Rom PRL update Questions

I used to remember dedicated PRL threads in older forums.
PRL's are not as... Important anymore though it seems. (used to be easier to update too by hand... anyways.)
I'm seeing that there are new PRL's available for my note 2, and i'm getting some odd service issues (and lack of 4g working, but its connecting to it)
And without the ability to use pound codes on custom roms, it can be a bit of a pain.
What is the current PRL that people are using here?
Does anyone have a good trusted download source for it?
(http://prl.digiblur.com/) This is what I found, but it's been so long since I've manually updated PRL's that I dont remember if this was the site to use or not.
http://androidforums.com/transform-ultra-all-things-root/632275-diy-how-change-your-prl.html
Are the instructions given here good to use?
The ones I'm finding here at XDA are saying note 3 and s4/5 and such.
I dont want to deal with a brick, so I'd rather ask the question. Lots of old threads on PRL stuff, but no dedicated PRL thread (that i can find) makes it a bit tough to get up to speed.
If you want to update prl manually you will need to run a custom touchwiz rom. You open your dialer and do ##data# then choose view. There will be a prl write option. For this to work you need to copy the prl to the root of your internal sdcard and rename it to test.prl.
I am not on sprint network so I cant really help you find prls. If you want more help just hit me up. I know most of the roms that have prl write enabled so I can point you towards some roms if you want.

Hmm. I thought you could flash in a PRL though odin even if your rom didn't support it.
I read so many posts of people flashing to TW stock and updating PRL and loosing connectivity or gps issues after switching back.
These new style roms are really sweet, but the loss of some features like PRL updates gets to be a bit wearing on you.
It's hard to find roms like slimbean as well. Being a minimalist, I am picky about my features. battery life is more important to me than fancy overlays or graphics. (though i miss a lot of S-Pen features)
