Damn, sorry but i'm a little pissed right now.
I would like to ask any of you fellows if the latest offcial update had any bad effects on your device ?
I have random crashes. When i try to restart it i get the white stupid HTC screen and nothing happens for a while then it restarts again from that point.
If i let it like that it will do this for about 10-15 mins. then it will eventually start.
(Ok, i just noticed that it isnt charging anymore...and when i try to unlock the screen it will turn it off.)
(After a couple of reboots it is charging again)
ffs !!!
Footnote.
I am running a standard Desire, not rooted, very few apps, no task killer.
What to do now ?
Well, now i go to work tomorrow like an idiot and will be nice with every one of my colleagues laughin at me.
YOu know, when all your colleagues use their company iPhones and you try to prove how awesome your Android is and after a couple of weeks your phones doesnt work anymore ppl will laugh at you.
So in the end i think, millions of ppl around the world should not be wrong after all.
make a gold card and flash the full generic ROM to your phone
if that doesn't work then you need to return it
No problem here works fine if not slightly better. The problem with forums is that people generally only post problems. I've seen many other posts with people reporting no issues on stock device. Could be due to an app you have.

The point is, the phone was working properly till the update.
I updated my phone yesterday as well with the OTA update. Now my phone discharges from 100% to 93% instantly from taking it off charge. I know this is an on going problem that has been happening to people since the phones launch, but mine was fine, it never did that until today.. the first time I charged it since I did the update. Coincidence? Somehow I think not
I guess the first thing to do would be a factory reset.
I have the latest update on my Desire and everything works great, certain things are better.
I'll give it a hard reset tonight when I have the time to put all the settings back to how I want. I don't want to loose all my save data on some of my games though, like totemic.. I wont play it again if I have to some of those levels again lol
My phone has just shut down by itself and the only way I was able to start it was by pulling the battery. I have the phone for some time and it's the first time something like this has happened so it has to be because of the update. Also, right after the update some of my widgets (Messages and Wi-Fi) were gone! Battery life seems worse.
I had a few problems when i updated too. but a factory reset made everithing work like a charm. (unrooted)

Bad idea there... You're going to have issues with returning it after flashing a generic ROM...
Have any of the networks actually rolled out this update?
I agree with the battery life being A LOT worse after the update. And I did flash the whole generic Rom onto it. My battery life was amazing before the update. I think it must be something to do with the radio, as they changed it in the update. Gutted now as I can't downgrade again either.

You can flash an older radio without changing the rom, but I think it you need to root first.
My battery life is awesome on this rom. My phones been off charge for 15 hours and its at about 70% now. Any other rom I've used previously custom or stock have given me far worse results.
Interesting to see how there is such a mixed bag of results.
Hi, after I updated OTA I lost WiFi after a couple of days, not immediately... I read here that removing battery helps so I did it. The problem is gone (for now at least)
But I don't want to remove the battery every few days.

Well, just did a hard reset.
The phone wasn't turning on anymore.
It doesn't seem to work better either.
I still get the white startup screen and thats it.
No access to the phone, occasionally after a few tries it will login.
Really disappointed.

Been having a weird issue with my phone lately. I'm rooted, s-off, running stock 2.2, no custom kernel.
Lately what will happen is my phones 3G won't work for loading pages, apps, streaming video as it'll be stuck "uploading". By that I mean the upstream arrow will either stay lit or blink. I've tried to pin point an app that would be doing it with no success. It'll do it for a minute sometimes two then work normally. Seems to happen most often when I wake the phone. Any thoughts?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Hmm, sounds like it might be some app, or service phoning home and hanging. Try using a process manager app to see if you can detect which apps and services are running when your phone is doing that. Try killing all nonessential services, then see if the condition persists. If no, then reactivate one service at a time until it does. If the problem persists after killing all nonessential services, have a look at running processes, and kill any that seem suspicious. Once you know which app, service l, or process is the offending party, try uninstalling the related app.
Hope that's helpful.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I'll give that a try. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
So after a few weeks of trying, killing apps or processes does nothing to stop the issue. Its very random when it happens and when it does I can do nothing that uses 3G.
Anyone else have an idea?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Is there an app that will show what's using my network in real time? Not a stats app but actual, current usage.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Could it be PRL and location based? Starting to get real frustrating.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Sorry you're still having trouble
Hi Phaded,
Sorry that my suggestion yielded no positive results for you. If you've killed all non-essential services and processes, and it's still appears to be "uploading," something is definitely not right. I don't think it's PRL, but I personally don't know enough about how the radio works to say for sure.
At this point, you could try a different ROM. If you don't already have it, I recommend ROM Manager root. It's totally worth the $ and is available on Android Market. It makes trying different ROMs really easy.
Trying a new ROM would also effectively reinstall your radio, which might do the trick. Before you flash a new ROM, do a nandroid backup from recovery, and backup your apps with Titanium Backup, which is another must-have, IMO.
If all else fails, RMA? It could be hardware... A genius with this stuff I am not, but I have beaten my head against many a wall..
Good luck!
I installed Virtuous 3.1 last night and so far so good. Going to keep an eye out for the rest if the day so hopefully it is fixed.

24 hours and no issue with it. This was a multiple time a day occurrence so safe to say it resolved itself.

Congrats Phaded!
Welcome to the ranks of the Virtuous! Glad to hear it's resolved.
Now you've got ROM Manager, you can safely try a host of different ROMs and themes. I recommend the Revolutions theme on top of Virtuous - it's very pretty.

Having same "stuck in upload mode" issue
I have a non-rooted, stock G2 (from T-Mobile) running Android 2.2.
Every day, as many as twenty or thirty times per day, the phone gets stuck in "upload" mode. The data icon shows that data is uploading (or trying to) and I am unable to use any data-related services (whether tethered or on the phone itself). When it happens it can last anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. The only way I can forcibly stop it is to completely shut down the radio by toggling airplane mode off then on, forcing the phone to reacquire a data signal.
I've tried resetting the phone, deleting every app, reinserting the SIM card, and even formatting the SD card. Nothing seems to work to solve the issue.
My two main concerns are that 1) I can't reliably download apps, check mail, send pics/videos, or other data-related processes. 2) I'm concerned that if something IS uploading, it may be uploading a LOT and adding to my 5GB per month throttle-cap on T-Mobile.
I've ended every endable process, and killed or uninstalled every app possible (I can't seem to remove bloatware without rooting, which I'm not yet eager to do as this phone is less than 60 days old, and I'm otherwise happy with it as is).
Any suggestions or recent information as to why this is occurring?
I presume everyone has seen this by now as it's also been posted on the Moto forum:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/MOTOR...news-for-our-loyal-DEFY-Community/td-p/693707
I haven't. Thanks. I just subscribed.
It's not Froyo, I think! And different with last one release
I just received this update OTA (3.6.360). It's for T- Mo phones (USA?) and has a link listing a number of "fixes". I have no issues with the supposed fixes except in on (T-MO USA) area: wifi calling. I had been experiencing some moments of voice loss on wifi calling. I did a reset which seemed to have cured it. Apparently this update stabilizes wifi calling and also makes "visual voice mail" now work over wifi. Let you know what happens.
I also just received it. Wow the screen scrolling is so silky smooth now. It was nice before, but it just glides now. Actually all selections are smoother. Homescreens, app drawer, widget scrolling. I also notice the touch sensitivity is better too. They greatly improved the overall feel of this phone's UI (not that it was anywhere near bad before). Very nice indeed!

Honestly I have never had an issue with any of those. The only thing I ever noticed was when I was on Wi-Fi, and I would text, I would see the icons for both Wi-Fi and 3G at the same time. Phone never gets hot, and battery life has been good (100% full charge with little use I can go 3 days. 100% charge with heavy use and I get a good day and a half). Since I just update today I will give a a little time, and post back if anything got worse or better.

One reason I ask is because I have terrible cell service and use wifi calling not only for calls but for sending text, which works fine now and would hate to update and discover I can't do this anymore.

I didn't sign up for anything... or do you just have to be a member of that forum? Otherwise, I presume they're rolling them out in batches?
Just downloaded it. Freed up about 70mb of RAM for me. Seems to be running smoother too. Booted twice which I was not prepared for. Still hoping for an official FroYo. After seeing the leaked release in the dev forum, I think it is a matter of time. If Samsung can release one for the Vibrant..... Yeah. But for now I can learn this like I learned my Win Mo.
EDIT: It appears that after this update I have lost root on my stock ROM. I cannot regain root through super1click nor z4root. Both fail to initialize. Super1 just locks up and z4 force closes. Not sure what could be the culprit. Did a factory data reset and am attempting to reinstall all apps including root.
EDIT: So yes it appears that indeed this has nullified my root access. Trying right now again with z4root and it is stuck in the attempting to apply root screen. Looks like Moto does not want their stuff messed with. Shoulda known better. Any ideas? I am really, really new to Android so I have been trying to avoid too much. Now that it force closed it looks like it will not let it do anything AND uninstalled it from my device. Will not let me install it again either. How nice. Glad I spent $ to be told what I can and can't do with my phone.
I have tried 3 times now to install this update, twice with the phone still rooted and once after unrooting and rebooting. Each time, I see the little Android guy next to an open box with a progress bar, which goes to about 1/3, then I get the triangle with ! inside next to the little Android guy. That isn't supposed to happen, right?
Judging by more recent posts about this update, it's just as well I can't install it.
10 characters!
I deleted the music downloading apps, but FamilyRoom is still there. And I'm finding that a factory reset doesn't restore all that junk, so I still can't install the update. Poop.

I've backed up all the bloatware onto another SD I removed with titanium, so I hope once putting those back on and unrooting will fix it.

I'm new to rooting and have the same problem, can't un-root, can't root after update. superoneclick stops at "reading OS version properties" when trying to root. Then says "super user not installed" when trying to un-root.
The worst part is the update reinstalled all that crap bloatware which is the reason I rooted in the first place. My bad for not un-rooting BEFORE I updated.

same here- anyone here knows how to fix this issue?
I finally got it figured out. My problem was that I deleted some "bloatware" files that, for some reason, are essential to have in order for the update to run. Assuming you did the same thing:
If you haven't already, use Z4Root to root your phone and then install the recovery app found in post 83 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875233&page=9 . Run that recovery app in Recovery Boot mode, select Backup, and let it create a nandroid backup of your phone. That backup will end up in /goapkrev/backup on your SD card.
You'll need to download the ROM from post #39 on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880813&page=4 Unrar it, then copy the folder containing 4 files into /goapkrev/backup on your card.
Run Recovery again, but this time select Backup & Restore - Advanced Restore. Select the folder you just copied to your card (2010-12-31.15.54.38), then select Restore System and let it run. That will leave your apps and data untouched. After the restore, select the option to reboot the phone.
Download and install the update, then reboot.
After rebooting, you can re-root using SuperOneClick found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709 Don't forget to enable USB debugging first.
So far, so good
Hey guys,
Ever since the ICS update, my GPS has been failing to lock, even when 10+ satellites are visible (according to various GPS utilities).
I've tried all the GPS fixes (external_lna = 0, updating certificates, switching to non-ssl, adding time servers, AGPS reset/download, etc).
I'm trying to determine if this is a hardware thing, or a software thing.
Can anyone post their ROM version, how many satellites are visible, and whether or not you get a fix after one minute (outdoors)?

Which one did you use ? I also am having a horrible time with GPS not locking.. I've tried editing my gps.conf, external lna=0, gps aids etc etc and still can't get this thing to lock after ICS update using UCLH2 Literom 0.6 build by thegreatergood, as well as with 9 satellites located... Iwill lock but as soon as i move my phone I loose it.
I used the gps 3.1 from the site mentioned in the above post but still have no success in locking GPS.
Yeah, I tried the AGPS patch.. no dice. I'm suspecting it's not an AGPS issue at all. A cold, unassisted lock should take no longer than a minute or two; this feels like something firmware or hardware related.
I also had this problem but for longer time, my gps couldnt lock with GB either..It took about 10 min, sometimes even more to lock.. or sometimes just simply didnt lock.. so I tried every possibilities Ive found, and after long weeks of searching and trying millions of useless apps and fix methods,I found this app, called gps doctor:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...edium=organic&utm_term=gps+doctor+google+play
after a little hesitation I gave it a try.. yea i know it costs about 2dollars but it was my last hope and i was about to give up trying, so i really hoped this would work.. and so it did! Now I get a lock within seconds!
sometimes my gps starts to be ****ty again though, but that is when I open the app and press quick fix, that makes some kind of "xtra injection" i guess.. After seconds everything is back to normal for days/weeks and I can actually use navigation and positioning without a problem, like never before

lambgx, what ICS build are you using? When I was using CL9 My GPS works fine... when i've reverted back to that nandroid backup, it seems to be ok ...
I'm going to play with it a bit more to confirm this issue... I've been having some minor issues with the ULH lite rom I've installed so I'm going to bounce back and forth and see if this seems common.
I can post my gps.conf if I find it works.... I'm on Rogers in Canada. My GPS was also working in GB so not sure what your issue may be..

Hrm. Well, spam or not... it actually seems to have worked! I bought the app about an hour ago, but only tried it just now since you posted the warning. Got a lock in about 45 seconds, and warm restarted in under 5! I wasn't able to get a lock after 15 minutes prior to that...
So, could it be simply invalid or stale data gets cached on the GPS chip, and it's simply a matter of purging it? Looks like that might be the case!
I'm running the stock UCHL2 build and LiteKernel v1.0, also on Rogers.
I'll keep testing over the next few days and post my results, but it looks like this fix may have done it!

so far so good, gps locks quick in gmaps... less than 20seconds.

2$ is not much when you think of it. I may buy this as well but want to see if JB fixes all our GPS issues first since I will be switching to it once the camera is fixed. I agree if it is only deleting some files we should be able to do this ourselves but it states that it replaces some files with valid data. Here is what they say they do"GPS Doctor works by clearing stale cached values that can mislead your GPS chip as it searches for your location, then injecting the correct values into the chip using data downloaded from NTP and XTRA servers."

Actually, I gotta say it is a very well written app, and appears to do quite a bit. I suspect the GPS problem some of us are seeing on the Glide is endemic across all Android devices (possibly other OSes) too.
I've had this problem on every phone I've ever owned. Some worse than others, obviously. But, the day you buy it, it locks in 5 seconds. Every year seems to add 5 minutes to that lock time. I assumed it was antenna degradation, but maybe it is just a bug in the sirf firmware; it continues to accumulate bad predictive data and never expires it.
I suspect this won't be the last device I use GPS Doctor on, and to say $2 isn't very much is an understatement. :good:
Totally buying this app, but, I'm pretty sure anybody with some coding skills, can take it apart and make it part of the system.
Any takers ? dman ? If you, or anybody can achieve this, $ 10 are waiting on my PayPal account. You can ask dman, I've already donated more than $ 40, and I haven't even downloaded his ROM yet XD
As much as I'd like to see this incorporated into CyanogenMod or something, I also don't want to cut out the developer who worked hard to figure out what this problem is...
I just downloaded/bought it. $2 is cheap. I finally bought Titanium Pro, since I've been using it forever too. Rather than paying someone else to make it free and undermining the work of the original developer, why not support the original developer? Imagine how you might feel if dman was the developer of this and someone from another forum broke it apart and incorporated into their ROM, for free?
Thoughts on the app, though? Wow! It locked my GPS immediately. Sideloaded it on a few other devices I have just to see how it handled... And yeah. 5 seconds and it locked. Just amazing. Removing now, but this thing is totally worth it. $2 well spent!

As much as I'd like to see this incorporated into CyanogenMod or something, I also don't want to cut out the developer who worked hard to figure out what this problem is...

I totally get your point, but you have to admit that having this feature available for any ROM Developer to put it into his own ROM, would be a major breaktrough for the Android Community, just think about it, GPS lock, in just 5 seconds, whatever devices/ROM you're using, sick !
Conspiracy theory time. So like, what is it about SIRF chipsets that makes them prone to degradation over time? As I mentioned earlier, I've had this problem on countless devices.
It seems like such an obvious problem, solved by either regularly purging stale data, or at least to presenting the user with a reset option.
What hasn't Antenova, Google, or even Samsung resolved this issue? Planned obsolescence? Do they just not acknowledge the issue?
Even after paying for GPS Doctor I'm still having issues locking a signal ... It took about 5 minutes the other day to lock on, while my TomTom was working the entire time guiding my way.
Other times I can lock w/ GPS Status in 24 seconds.
This morning I tried again from a rural area outside of my city (Calgary) and after sitting for 2 mins, no wifi anywhere near, I didn't even FIND more than 1 satellite let alone lock onto a signal.
I've tried using gps doctor, resetting the info re-download agps settings ... nada.
I'm going to flash back to stock GB rogers build sometime in the next couple of days w/ Odin and see if I can get the GPS to lock.
I'll need to do some more reading as I've read there's more than just the gps.conf that are involved in finding the signal (ie certificates etc.).
If someone can summarize which files I should look for if I get it working or point me to the right thread to explain it, it'd be much appreciated.
(and soadzoor my apologies for accusing you of spam, gotta be wary on anything internet these days )
No problem
another suggestion: last time my glide had troubles with even viewing a sattelite, just like yours.. Not even the gps doctor helped, but when I RESTARTED the phone AND used the app again, I got a lock in 20 seconds under clear sky.. if Im indoors, the chances are a lot worse to view sattellites and lock to them.
so u can try restart the phone and then try again, let me know if it helped..
by the way im also thinking of going back to GB, I had less problems with that (less bugs, smoother gameplay), but first I'll try dman's JB. just waiting for a release that camera and physical keyboard work on

Ya I've found that helps too; actually pulling the battery used to help on my old phone. Seems the GPS chip doesn't always power down across reboots.
Also waiting for dman's JB. I think CM will solve so many issues on our device. Can't wait.
Fixed by the new ATT update. FYI.

I have no idea what the deal is with this phone right now and its destroying my battery life. I have done everything I know to do with no avail. My phone is CONSTANTLY searching for GPS satellites. If I disable my location settings, they automatically turn back on and resume searching for satellites. Has anyone had this happen? I've done everything but a factory reset.
let me guess, you cant disable data connection too?

Damn.... noticed earlier today it was doing that and looked for anything that could have turned it on. Never thought about the phone app. I ended up restarting my phone. Just dialed a number as a test and sure enough... the gps icon popped up. At least this time it quit on its own...
But why would the gps turn on when I make a phone call?
I seem to remember an updated privacy notification coming in the mail from AT&T a week or so ago. In it i believe there was mention of sharing "anonymous call location data." I think maybe I'll dig up that piece of mail and follow the instructions to "opt out."
Think I'm gonna test this by making a call from one of my kid's lines.

Good to know i'm not the only one. Its a shame because it wasn't doing it last week and now since I work in a metal building with already poor reception, its just shredding my battery life.
I feel sure that I have all apps that request location turned off. This is unrelated to my dialer app, as I only make one or two phone calls in a day.
Root and factory data reset seems to have resolved this for now. Still trying to figure out a cause.

Mine does it when I make or receive a call. If it can't get a gps lock then it keeps re-trying.
I think at&t pushed something to the phone that started it doing this and I need it to stop.

Just posted another thread about this and didn't even see this one.. I have the same problem that started arising around 4:30pm yesterday (EDT) and it's been really p*ssing me off!! As of today, it's not consistently turning on as it was yesterday but it for sure it turning on every time there is a phone call or a text message.
Was there any sort of update anyone is aware of? Maybe a system app was updated and caused this problem like this shows

So I realized that I recently turned OFF the wifi & mobile networks option inside of the Location settings a few days ago. I turned that back on and it does NOT do it any longer.
I also got on a chat with at&t tech support. He states they didnt have any other reports of this issue and nothing released recently should do this. He also mentioned that E911 uses the gps for location when you call 911. (I knew this.)
In any event, I asked him to open a case with engineering because I don't want it to kill my battery if I make or take a call while in a bldg.
Anyone seeing this should contact customer support to file a "complaint" so it is logged and gets attention.
Anyone seen this on another phone that may be in use in their house?

Thanks for the tip.
This just hit me mid week too, I'm trying the above solution.
One piece exists!
Carrieriq people! I don't know much about these phones, but have been learning slowly. I have the same issue, however I discovered carrieriq wake lock last week, and it makes me want to change to Verizon. Now I'm not sure, but I have that wake lock while the GPS is tweaking out. So I'm guessing that's what it is. I had to register just to post this, and I wish there was a way to get rid of it. I live in a Grey area, and prefer not to have all my calls and texts stored in a server for 60 days or whatever they claim to store the Information.
Same issue started 2 days back. Hope to find any resolution

Damn carrierIQ... you are absolutely right. Installed one of those checker apps and its on there. (One of the downsides to not having a custom ROM.) But to have it really fire up like this, they must have flipped the switch on gathering "anonymous call location data" as was mentioned in a recent update to the privacy policy.
Installed Logging TestApp from an xda member ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559&postcount=110) and then the $1 key from the app store. Went thru the removal process and it no longer kicks on when I make a call.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only person experiencing this. Makes me feel better about the situation. Carrieriq has apparently been around for quote some time, however I hadn't heard of it because I was on am extended vacation. When I found out about it last week or whenever it was I did a lot of research on it. But a couple days ago when my GPS kept turning on out of nowhere while I had it off I got paranoid, and was scared they had me under investigation or something. If anyone else tries reggae Smith suggestion and is able to get rid of carrieriq. On this phone please post and let us know. I'm sure most of us out there don't want AT&T saving our texts and call history. Your browser history, and all that. Its a key logger that saves EVERYTHING that you do on your phone. At least that's my grasp on it. I'm wondering if getting rid of it the way reggie did even really delete it though. Is it possible to even get rid of it without flashing a custom room? Just because we may be able to get some peace of mind by not seeing the wake lock, is it really gone? I have only had Android for about 3 months, and managed to work from a atrix 2, to having 2 s3, one with severe wake lock issues. Drain my whole zero lemon battery overnight, to this ogp, which I dig. So this phone works great and one day carrier iq for 13 hours one day, so my friend Google gave me some insight, and bam, here we are. I have so many questions, but the capcha or whatever from my phone is irritating, so I will refrain from asking so many questions in different threads, that people will think I'm spamming. In the words of the great William currington "God is great, beer is good, and *****es are crazy!"
Anybody found any solution for this? There were some Google app updates hangout search may be forcing

I can confirm that this 1 dollar app has fixed the problem on my phone as well. E980.
Before trying that i tried to manually remove it, i was able to find two library files @ "/system/lib/" 1 - libiq_client.so && 2 - libiq_service.so
However I was unable to find the associated binary. I found a service lost the name. I installed cwm recovery, and then attempted to remove the library's at the risk of bricking, to invoke a app crash log and figure out where this :crying: binary was located. I added .bak to the end of the library names, and rebooted. I was greeted with a nice message "The android system has stopped working.", when I got to the homescreen, and then again when I attempted to make a call. But the phone worked fine and gps did not kick attempt to search. So I went and integrated the kernel logs and it showed android.iqd as the module that crashed, and an associated service. I couldn't find a full path to the binary and I don't know much about the android kernel yet, I'm only on my 2nd day being rooted on my 1st android device. If anyone could help me investigate this and figure out where the binary is located, and upload it I would be a very happy camper.
TLDR - After using Logging Test app and running remove IQ, i can rename or remove the library files with no issues! But I would still like to know more about the files/services associated.
Double post. Today my phone CIQ re-enabled itself, and started throwing the app crash message again "Android System Has Stopped Working.", because I have my CIQ library files re-named. Also note that it seems that I cannot RECEIVE text messages with these CIQ library files re-named. So DO NOT rename them.
Here is a link to the system_app_crash generated by renaming the library files.

As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.
_______________________________
Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.
