I've got an SX66
ROM VER: 1.33.10 WWE
ROM DATE: 1/21/05
RADIO VER: 1.02.10
I setup wireless manager to work on my home network. At the heart is a linksys BEFW11s4 wireless router with WEP enabled (64 bit).
It asked for the security password which I entered but it kept telling me was wrong. Finally it stopped asking me and the wireless manager show that I am connected to the network. It shows the correct SSID, channel etc.
However I still cannot access the internet or anything else on my network. It seems that I am not really connected.
What the H$!! am I doing wrong??
Please help.
Did the router give you an IP address?
I.e. Is the router DHCP enabled?
Happygoat
Yes it does give me an IP address (SX66 set to auto assign)
In reading over your post I started checking my settings and realized the problem.
I have to manually enter the key.
Once I did that...boom I am online.
Thank you for your help.
Joe
@HappyGoat
Hi I have had some problems with wifi hope you can help. I couldn’t find anything on this forum about it (maybe I didn’t search well but don’t think so) Listen, I managed to find some hotspots, I used a lot of programmes, like Streethawk, or WIFIFORM(or something like that), and many more, but all I could get was windows popping up to select connect using that and that to internet or work. I tried work, but that is it every time I got the message I couldn’t give you IP or something. like that. My Ip settings is give IP automatically. Am I doing everything ok, or is this problem network issue because I was trying to connect on public hotspot(which might be not accepting connections). And how do I know if the hotspot is accepting connections free of charge? Hope you can give me detailed instructions.
Thanks in advance
ilijamn: I use a programme called "WIFIFOFUM" and when in the programme on the left side of the window is a column called "WEP" which will either say "on" or "off" for a certain connection.. now when it says "on" you cannot use it without a network key(basically a password) but when its "off" you should be able to use without a problem...To connect to a connection while in WIFIFOFUM jus tap and hold the connection and select connect...
now also when that window pops up, its better to sellect connect via "internet" rather than "work"....
I hope this helps you...
@tradivise
Thank you it helped me a lot! But sometimes in WiForum it takes a lot of time to connect, and I tryed a lot of programmes and then I downloaded Street HAwk, It is the best one, at least for me.(the progremme does everything automativly-which is cool). Anyways, i have to ask you smth. else (prob. stupid question), when a network(hot spot) is free of charge do I need to set up IP settings and DNS settings and what is VPN?
Thanks

And is there any pocket web browser for internet that can open multiple widows(tabs)????
Thanks in advance,
Ilija
ilijamn:
VPN - Virtual Private Network, long explanation so just google search it.
IP and DNS should be setup automatically by the network, but some networks require a network key (WEP) which is like a password and without it you cant use their network...
hope this helps, any more questions jus ask!!!!
not sure about multiple tabs, if i find i will let u know
That should do it. Thank you
Can some one tell me how to share my 3G connection over wifi? I need to make the phone as a portable access point.
no can do.
Bluetooth or USB
Try hitchhiker it's free! but I'm not sure if it works for sharing using 3G... try it and let me know http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/
No, It doesn't support to share the 3G connection.
So use Internet sharing over BT ?
Would like to use it as a wireless access point, so I can get access from computer and iPhone, seem like I have hard time to find a solution.
share the connection with the PC by USB. Put a wifi stick/pcicard in the PC and bridge the connections, then the iFoon can have 3G too

you got this to work?
or are you saying it should work?
i have tried to share a connection this way but have had no luck when using internet connection sharing/pan.
i did get it to work this way back in the day when the phone ran wm5 and had dun.
do you have any pointers on how to get internet connection sharing in wm6 to let more than one device connect to the 3g connection?

seems like you may need an app on your pc to manage/route the connections not sure if this helps but you can try "network Magic" it give you a bit more options on the pc side for managing connections. would like to see where this goes for possible future applications. i'll give it a try when i have some free time and check with an comp tek friend of mine see what he thinks.
Yeah it sucks that no one has created a way to share the wifi connection just like we share bluetooth or usb.
We also need a proxy server that we can run on our phone.
ok, for me the boring part is the time of the connection, you can share via wifi by just turning on your internet sharing in whatever the pc connection, you just need to manually deffine your hermes wifi to 192.168.0.1 and it shares via internet sharing! The question here is that the connections stops after 10 minutes becouse of the warnig "check usb cable connection". Its very irritating to have to start connection every 10 min. !!!!!
awww...iPhones not fast enough Data-Wise for ya?
thought it was supposed to "revolutionize PDA Phones"
hah.
sorry, i had to add my 2¢ against Apple.
Beware, some mobile provider allready use NAT, thus you'll recieve a non-routable IP. I am not sure that you will be able to share a connection of this kind.
Windows Mobile 6 devices offer Internet Sharing feature for Bluetooth and USB. It works in this way that you start Internet Sharing application inside of your Windows Mobile phone and then other devices can share the Internet connection. What if you could fool Windows Mobile phone and instead of Bluetooth use WiFi? Would it be possible? Yes, it is:
how to use Internet Sharing over WiFi, which essentially makes the Hermes an Access Point.
Do the following:
1) Open Settings->Internet Sharing. Enable IS for Bluetooth PAN.
2) Change HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing\PrivateInterface to "TIACXWLN1" (it should currently be "BTPAN1").
3) Open Settings-> Connections -> Wi-Fi. Select Network Adapters tab. Click IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi.
4) Enter IP address 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Click OK.
5) Select Wireless tab. Add New.. to add the Network name for your ad-hoc network (I prefer "adhoc"
6) Set the client computer to use the same ad-hoc network. Client will receive an IP address from the device (don't need to manually set the IP).
I got this from a different website.

Edward!! you rock! this has got to be the sweetest thing, since wm6..for me atleast, Im actually posting from my old hacked OSX x86, I really cant believe this worked, but it did.
Thanks a ton for sharing the info.
Edward, Can you plse explain why you set the wifi adaptor to a fixed IP?
The 192.168.1.1 is as far as I know only valid if the router has the 192.168.1 range. For me it should be 192.168.123. ...
Thx for an explanation.
a cab would be perfect!
Yes! A very nice feature; could this be put in as a cab?
Or better, in the comm manager.....
Anyone?

Your phone is now the router.

I tried the steps to the letter however, I am unable to connect. I tried on one device running Schaps 3.54c & the other vp3G. I get confused after I complete the step "select wireless tab then add new." The new wireless network shows unavailable on my device" I think I'm unsure how to configure the connection on the PC side. I'm unable to get the wireless configurator to allow me to input a specific IP address. I'm using Windows XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OK, I have been resisting, but why would you do this.
If you are using wifi to access the Internet, and the phone and PC both have wifi (in order to use wifi sharing), why not just access the wifi directly from the PC? Sorry to be thick, but I don't see why you would want this?

THANK YOU
I have tried this out and it apprears to work pretty well- thank you so much, I had hoped this would be figured out. i had the idea to do this but not the technical know how.
This is awesome
but you know what would be also interesting?
to be able to share the wifi connection over Bluetooth or usb instead of the cellular.
Basically using the phone as a wifi adapter.
What say you?
titan 6800
Has any one gotten this to work with the 6800? The registry key for bluetooth is different.
Thanks
Garvin.

Actually, it came from this site - we've been discussing it for days in the Development and Hacking forum! It was in this post by Fluxist who'd discovered it in the first place, and the other sites have been following suit... we're working on a more elegant way to do it now. And you directly quoted his post!
I'm going to be trying to write a full-on NAT router for it I think, although we're seeing if we can do a basic version for now.
man, i cannot belive this..
that is amazing

I was thinking the same thing. I frequently stay in foreign hotels in which are "unwired." I'd love to use my phone as the registered device when buying wifi so that I could make VOIP calls and check my e-mails on ground and tether it to my notebook back in the roam. In Dubai, you can get hooked for $30 a day for wifi.

Heh, it's cool dude - PPCGeeks got it from us - but check your research ;-) No point having duplicate threads.
at my school, in order to use the wifi connection, you have to log in with your username and password(not like wireless password wep,wpa etc ). I can find and connect to the wifi but it will not work when i try surfing the web as i cannot seem to be able to enter in my username and password.
does anyone know of how to help me?

that is probably your proxy server asking for user/password to let you out...
oh whoops i didnt state my problem.
i do not know where to be able to enter in this information to be able to access the internet.
certificates?
other things?
im not sure.
how do i enter in for certificate?
well, what do you have to do if you were to connect to your school's wifi with a laptop?
At my university, once you connect to the wifi and try to access a page it re-directs you to a page where you must login with your school assigned username and password. Once logged in I can surf just fine. I only use it in lecture halls that have no reception.

Your school's proxy likely authenticates through Active Directory - which isn't, as far as I know, used in Windows Mobile (at least in any practical fashion). In an enterprise wireless environment, even a laptop may have to be plugged in via CAT5 cable first to obtain the proper certificate (something that isn't quite compatible with a mobile phone) - after that, it can authenticate on the wireless network. For this reason, some enterprise wireless networks offer a guest account with limited, more controlled acccess to the school's local network but it may, at the very least, give you access to the internet.
Sorry this isn't of much help, but it at least clarifies why you may not be able to access the internet. I did see this same question come up on the Experts Exchange website but they charge you to see the answer.
okay so i tried to connect to the wireless network on my laptop. it "connects" fine and dandy. What I mean is that the "connected" icon shows up. But the message that prompts me to enter in my username and password pops up after i open my web browser (firefox/chrome etc)
on my friends iphone. same thing. the popup shows up after you open up safari mobile.
is there really no way around this?
Are you using Opera or IE?
Opera in turbo mode will not let you authenticate.

Guys I want to use my DHD lika a router for sharing internet connection from my computer by wifi
At this time I have Cyanogenmod 10.1 ( JB 4.2 ) and I want to have reversed USB Tethering and WiFi hotspot at the same time.
Is it possible?
Try it. But think that giving 20€ for router is way simpler and better.
