I'm considering of buying htc desire. can you please answer if rumors of faulty multitouch are true. thx
I don't have any issues with the multitouch on my Desire.
The multitouch issue is overblown by iPhone fanboys who don't have much else to do.
So far it's primarily affected games and games that require a specific set of things to happen in them at that. First you can only touch two points at any given time. Something that has not hindered gaming for about 20 years. Every game I ever played up until Nintendo first introduced shoulder buttons required my thumb to be in at most 2 places at any given time. Due to the iPhone being able to register 10/11 inputs at once it was suddenly deemed this niche feature was a requirement to be called a smart phone.
The next hindrance is games where you "cross the axis" in other words...Pong. People found that any attempt to port a two player Pong/Air hockey game would be futile due to this limitation. This affected, apparently, 99.9999% of the phone owning community...I mean, I don't even get out of bed if I don't challenge the missus to Pong first.
Basically, don't listen to the needless whining and rumours. The phone is fine.

Not neccessarily only pong.
Realfootball for example suffers the same.
The analog stick starts getting weird if you push a button at the same time.
It's a fantastic phone, just go for it.
basically any game that requires two fingers on the screen at the same time messes up, for example first person shooters. But seeing as the amount of games on android is tiny compared to the iphone you'll will probably never come across a game that's affected because about the best game android offers is solitaire.
i am exaggerating a bit, but basically i am saying if this was an iphone with this screen, it would be a big problem as it would break a lot of games, but android doesn't have many games to break in the first place, so it isn't as much of an issue.
well i was between hd2 2 and this phone.il probably go for this

Hey guys.
Strange post perhaps, but Iv always loved my HTC Devices.
So tomorrow my Touch Pro 2 will arrive, when I told my friends this and showed them the pictures. They laughed and said I was just fighting against getting an Iphone.
I believe I have made an informed decision, mostly because I can choose what hardware I want, (in this case a proper keyboard and bigger screen). And also because I can use so many free apps for WM6.1 that the iphone users have to pay for.
So please can you give me some more ammunition so that I can stop losing the arguments about why the iphone fails. Cheers.
Find new friends with better taste in phones?
You cant really use the bigger screen size argument. Just a beautiful input device and ability to customize it to the hilt.
Well there's always the 1 step behind the times arguement...I mean Iphones aren't as hi-tech as many of HTC's phones...oh...and you can change your batteries or add memory with cards...

You are getting confused with almost any manufacturer apart from HTC.
Iphones can't multitask, not even the new ones.
The screen isn't as "responsive" as the iphone, but you can use a stylus for precision (like making a doodle with the stylus ) and if you live in a cold climate, you can wear gloves and still use your phone. With capacitive screens like the iphone you gave to take your gloves off. Really annoying if you use them.
You don't have to jailbreak it to get many of the things working. And supposedly flash is coming to Windows Mobile first if I remember correctly (by first I mean before the iphone).
You can use it with any network you want (if it's unlocked) and if it's a branded version, you can unlock it without fear of bricking it after an upgrade.
That's just what comes to mind.
Oh, the screen is .1 inches bigger. Not really enough to make an arguement. But it does have more than twice the resolution, which is a goodo point as images can be clearer and reading texts won't tire your eyes as much.

Because I constantly seek validation and enjoy being right? Im not an armchair psychologist.
I can't stand the smugness of the iphone user trying to shove the latest nose flute app in my face, "do you have Excel?" I ask.
"Yes" replies the iphone user as they connect to the apps store and pay £15 for the most essential of software on a business phone.
I think my biggest reason for liking the touch pro 2 is that it just looks stunning with the screen on. Everyone has seen the iphone now, and I like to be different.
Cheers for the replies guys.
Yes, there are just too many iPhones on the street - no "WOW" factor these days. I find the pro2 can turn quite a few heads, especially when I pull out the keyboard and start typing... mind you, someone asked me once where I bought my iPhone with a keyboard!!

The IPhone is too common. It also means you surrender too much rights to Apple. They control what you should use. They ignore you and work at their decided schedule. "Cut and paste" is a new feature -- only idiots will believe that.
"There is no vulnerability." -- between Iphone 3G and 3GS, Apple plugged 48 holes.
The battery overheats fast. The screen wears out fast. The material used to maufacture the IPhone is cheap stuff.
IPhone is totally hopeless without connectivity. At the least, TP2 can still be useful.
The famous Appstore! -- How many apps do you really use? Many of the apps are "fractured" because Apple does not allow the developers to add in some features for fear of opening up their closed ecology.
You need more?
Agree with above that the App Store is overrated. I have an iPod Touch, and I have about 2 or 3 useful 3rd party apps. Everything else are just time wasters.
I have a couple reasons why I wouldn't buy an fruitphone.
1. Useless homescreen. The lockscreen shows the date/time. Once unlocked, you just have grids of icons. You have counters that show number of new messages, but no previews. Notifications of new messages and appointments really suck.
2. Terrible multi tasking. Let's say I was wasting my time with a game on my fruitphone while listening to music. You can forward or rewind tracks by double pressing the one button to bring up the music controls. But you can't go into the music app to change your music and go back to the game! That's just dumb.
3. Internet browsing. You can't open links in new tabs! No text reflow. That means you have to use landscape mode if you want to zoom in to read the text and you don't want to scroll horizontally. Also, no full screen view in browser. You always have the top/bottom bars.
4. Low resolution display. Text can't easily be read in zoomed out web pages. Photos look terribly pixelated.

Why do you have sheeps as friends...
People have posted some really good points on this thread like TP2 can
- multitask apps
- a monster text machine
- a monster email machine
- a full keyboard
- two mics with noise cancelling abilities
- two speakers for better loudspeaker calls
- better wvga screen (better resolution screen)
- Touch flow 3d is so so smooth(people friendly)
- excellent notifications screen
- better calling options
- better word processor apps like power point, word, excel
- a crap crap crap load of more software for Wndows mobile than iphone will ever have
-the device looks better IMO
But you cant really fault the iphone that much. It is a very pretty with better processor, same ram, bigger onboard harddrive, 3.5mm jack. The OS for both devices are totally different. But in all honesty WM is better than iphone OS BUT Android is better than WM and IS the future of the mobile phone generation....FYI
I agree with the above post. Check out the N900 phone too, its OS is a pseudo linux desktop and its mobile front is very finger friendly looking at youtube.
I am looking at the TP2 myself despite having an iphone. The iphone isn't a very good organizer partly because of its notification/background app. problem, I still haven't got used to the soft keyboard on a 3.5'' device after a year of use - hinders alot of communication and productivity for me personally, the resolution of the screen affects my PDF reading and the lack of bluetooth signalling stops me adding mice/keyboards.
This forum also offers a lot of ROM's too. Although there is a lot to be said for the iphone (its best software comes supplied and the rest can easily be downloaded from the appstore/cydia mostly for free or next to nothing) and no doubt I will have to encounter the same annoyances i had with my touch diamond/kaiser back in Winmo land. I have no doubt for most leisure users who have mastered the soft iphone keyboard that its probably the most fun and beneficial phone for them though.

yes, who could forget about a good ol' fashioned IPhone bashing thread.
you shouldn't let others opinions have an effect on what you want. different strokes for different folks. it's not like either the Tp2 or the IPhone are bad phones.
yes, you can make fun of them for not having the ability to multitask, not being able to sideload applications, interchangeable batteries etc.
just remember it's not wise to throw stones from a glass house.
just ask your friend to change something on your phone, then you do it...tell them to type something, then you type it, ask them what ap they have, then you go get it for free...I do it ALL DAY to my friends that have it, they hate pulling their iphones out now lol. The best is "can you tether? Yeah! For free? AH!!! YOUR PHONE IS CRAP! lol HTC wins. BUT............the iPhone does kill every other device in UI processing, hands down which IMO is a HUGE player in satisfaction. If you can do with 10-30fps UI, HTC with TF3D would be the better choice.
a huge issue for me was free internet tethering. I think with the new 3GS you can do this - but it costs an EXTRA £14.95 per month to O2 for the lowest deal! What a ripoff. That and the pull out keyboard are prob the main things for me.
There's an article at MSN that may be helpful....
Also, the Iphone loudspeaker is so-so despite calling itself a media machine.
The resolution is horrid.
The sound from the headphone is soft.
Voice command from BT definitely not working.
How do I know all these, I own a Iphone 3GS. Why don't I get rid of it? Too ashame to sell it to someone and have him curse me for selling him a lemon (despite it namesake).
Pretty impressive.
That is amazing, the quality of games/apps on the iPhone is still way ahead of android.
It looks as smooth as an xbox 360.
I know no one as said this now, but it pisses me off so much when people say if I want to play a game, I will use my Playstation, BS the iPhone games are kick ass.
Looks like a sweet game.

I'd be willing to bet that the Hummingbird proc has this beat. It just doesn't have a fancy tech demo yet.

I'll take turn by turn navigation over turning my phone into a toy any day of the week.
Its lovely but the reality distortion field of Apple is in full effect.
"Intel Sucks" until we need to use Intel.
"Its not the quantity of apps, its the quantity" until the iPhone has the most
"Apple makes machines for creating, not for playing games" until they want to compete with Nintendo and Sony

"Nobody wants to use a device that can't fit in the pocket"
I believe this year we also heard "Nobody wants to use a phone with a giant 4.3" screen"
Drink the drink...
will this run on the Ipad? couse if it does the its a WIN
wifi-ipad + EVO = WIN
Meh, just get one of the new ipod touches and play the damn game on that.

True or an iPad (personally don't need two pocket mobile devices), and with free tethering using the Evo, could be win/win.
gotta admit the graphics are pretty impressive, you can tell they are keeping the framerate low though. The blur effect helps mask it some but there was once or twice where I could see it stutter.
I give it until the end of the year before the roles reverse and apple is playing catch up with android, it's only a matter of time
one of the reasons iphone games have suddenly jumped in quality is the fact that they pushed an update not too long ago that fully supports opengl 2.0 and if im not mistaken android also supports opengl 2.0 the second reason is that apple controls both the software developed by them and the hardware requirements are developed by them but manufactured by hardware parters its only one product gradually and carefully upgraded, its a very strict system that allows them to produce higher quality faster then android, developers have to write code that can be scaled and refined to support many handsets..it just means that for the time being android will be behind...its one of the reasons the new windows phone os are more strict on their new hardware guidelines...soon android will mature to the point that it will be easy for developers to write an app for many different hardware sets...its just going to take time
I've played the demo. It is very impressive. Why do people need to hate on it just because it isn't available on their device yet?
Thoughts? Do you like the OS? Does it do all you want? I am thinking of making the jump to WP7 post CES.
The bottom line is. YOU should take the opportunity and play with the phone in person, this way you can judge it for yourself.

I will, but am waiting for CES to see what comes up for Verizon. Not 100% sold on the HTC Trophy that looks like it will be one of the phones at Verizon, would like something with a 4 inch screen.
I had an HTC Magic. Tried 2.1/2.2 different roms. I enjoyed the Android experience and the fact that there was such a huge amount of apps and customization. What really bothered me was how fragmented Android and its devices became. Different devices with different specs giving you a different user experience. I also got pissed about the whole 'no updates after 2.1' fiasco from Rogers..because "the hardware on the magic didn't support it". Considering there were other devices out there with the same specs that got 2.2 officially and even 2.3 on the way.
Anyways.. in all honesty I never considered wp7 until I played with one at bestbuy and was totally blown away with how smooth and fluid everything was. I really had wanted a Samsung galaxy S but was disappointed with the lag at times and stuttering.. but was willing to live with it..but after I messed around with the wp7 at the store.. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept on thinking of how slow my phone was.. So I picked up a Samsung Focus and have never looked back. I also tried the desire Z, and a 2 other newer android phones..but android still exibited stuttering at times or lag.. but i am sure that will get fixed with time. Android's still young. Oh, I had done all my research on the galaxy (gps issue, random shutdown (sleep state), bluetooth audio issue with android) but i was content a fix would come soon after 2.3 officially released anyway.
The only thing I do miss.. is the ability to side load apps..which I know you can with chevron... And I hate having to go through zune for everything. I am sure in time there will be other 'homebrew' apps out there you can use in it's place.
The app selection so far isn't that bad..but its getting better. In general I'd say the apps are pricier than android..but most are excellent quality.
And I miss that there still is no "emulation" apps for say..snes or psx for wp7 yet.
I used to have a HTC Magic and Hero, and just got rid of a 3GS to go to WM7.
I think Android is great for tinkering, but most the time the phone was a problem for me.
I always get bored with apps and stuck to my core apps, I tried lots of widgets but being stuck in a GPRS area (out in the sticks) I found many widgets stopped me receiving phone calls (GPRS fault not the phone but took the shine off the phone), so they always ended up being uninstalled.
The random stuttering/lag along with many apps being on newer firmware to what I could get at the time were the straw that broke the camels back for me.
after that I had a 3GS, now theres apps galore and a nice smooth experience, but once I got bored of trying loads of apps, I found my main use was web/email.
So my main motivation for moving was a large screen (HD7) for web browsing. And I havnt looked back since, nice and fresh compared to iOS, and just feels alot more polished compared to Android.
We already have this discussion: [Q] WP7: any iphone or android users planning to switch to wp7?
Thread Closed!
Ok, it's seldom that I speak ill of absolutely anything on WP7 but this game has just been disgusting. I've already complained to the creators of the game and have yet to hear a reply (perfectly reasonable given the time frame) but right now it isn't even worth 99 cents. Of all the poor iphone ports it is likely the worst. The first level runs smooth enough, just like the iphone version actually. However once you get into the later levels (3 and 4) lag is imminent and this has been tested on 5 different WP7 devices all with the same result. The buttons become non-responsive or you have to wait about 8 seconds after a button push for it to register. (This happens in the latter parts of the late levels) The "shaking" part is just disgusting, I have to shake all of my phones aside from my focus so hard that I feel like they're going to fly out of my hand before it registers as shaking and by then you're being so violent with it that you will likely shake one too many times and have to continue from your last checkpoint. I beat this game on android and iphone with ease but the WP7 version is a terrible port... Do not buy unless it is updated.
Issues with our app
We are looking into this problem as soon as possible. This is the first time we hear about this, and we have not seen this behavior on our own test devices. If you don't mind, can you resend your email? We would like to work with you to find the problem.

Certainly. my email is [email protected] The game is good, I played it numerous times on other systems but I have every US released WP7 device and it's occurring on all of them. It really seems that the shaking parts of the game cause the initial lag and then from there there is a snowball effect. I am happy to buy the game but in its present state it does need some polish.
How often with current trends would a hardware refresh be necessary on android streaming boxes . From a developers standpoint does this cause as many issues as it would on say a xbox or ps4? I see so many people reference that Fire TV is getting long in the tooth already? It seems to me that many of the set top boxes are outdated already at release to keep the cost down? In there current state can they really compete in the gaming arena with the likes of Microsoft or Sony? I am A laymen when it comes to development but would love to learn what a dev has to do to put a game on Fire TV or Google Play?
These days, most electronic devices are obsolete after a few months, but not to me. I use my electronics til they stop working or I get something new. I still have an original Apple TV that I use all the time. Do not ever let people tell you when you need to replace your device. If it works, use it. A good example of this is the Galaxy Note 4 on AT&T, I commented the other day that I never thought it would get root, cause it was already three months old and it had not happened yet, so everyday it does not happen is another day that someone is losing interest in hacking it, and that developers are always looking for the next big thing. Just me saying that got the thread closed, but its true. If the Fire TV 2 came out next week a lot of people would say our Fire TV was garbage even though it works just fine. If my Fire TV last five years then it will get used for five years, period. Don't let anyone ever tell you when your device is outdated, make that decision for yourself. Normal people would never be ready to buy a new car or home every six months, but when it comes to electronics, a lot of people wanna throw away their device every time the new thing comes out. Those people are lame as hell, and only want new phones, tablets etc, cause society tellls them its cool to have it. I am still using the first Galaxy Note and will continue to do so till it dies. I have replaced the screen and went through two batteries exploding, and its still works, so why upgade? These devices are for casual gaming, not hardcore gaming. Android boxes were never meant to compete with or replace gaming consoles. All the people that say that the Android boxes are taking over game consoles are unintelligent. Android boxes provide a different type of gaming experience then modern gaming consoles and til google decides to make an android gaming consoles they will never be able to compete with sony or microsoft. I also doubt google would ever turn Android into a big time gaming platform, but I do think google will release a gaming console in the future to compete with sony, microsoft and nintendo, just won't be an android console.
I'm actually with porkenheimer on this. I have good equipment but I've become sort of a hoarder of electronics. Lots of stuff is older than 8 years and whether it's an external hdd or an old laptop or even an iPod, I've had amazing luck fixing things and I DO find a purpose for it. I've used laptops from a decade ago as ubuntu servers, got xbmc running on some.
I actually benefitted from people discarding what they think is broken and/or obsolete.
As for aftv, I don't think the hardware is the reason development will slow down. It's more to do with Amazon's resistance to opening it up.
In fact, I have looked around, here & abroad and I've found some good possible replacements but not in the price range of aftv. The processor will be a tad less powerful with the same amount of ram or the processor and ram will be better but the price is over bloated. But for now, I don't think you'll find a faster experience for the price. Once it gets to the $200 range I'm thinking of building an htpc or investing the money elsewhere because I'm satisfied with what's happening on my TV.
Of course I think if cyanogenmod becomes a reality on aftv, the hardware will be put to better use. Fast is great but fire os, imho, is not a worthy os.
Thank you both I appreciate your words of wisdom. I agree its so easy to pile up old hardware. I don't know why the android media streamers have become such a point of interest. I currently own Fire TV, Ouya, Madcatz Mojo, Android TV ADT1, and in the end they all basically do the same thing So, yes maybe its time for me to stand back and say to myself "What exactly am I trying to do with these devices"? I do no I have been searching for that box that has all my streaming apps and games with extra power to spare? The closest I have come so far is a modified Madcatz Mojo which has HBO Go, Showtime, Starz, Encore, Netflix, Hulu, Etc. its far from perfect! I have been eyeing (though I need to Stop) the forthcoming Razer Forge or Snail Games Obox? I dont like how amazon has locked out root, and all the proprietor y parts of the OS. Eight gig of storage is a joke for anyone who likes games?
You developers out there when you release your code on a device does it have to be custom configured for each chipset you release it on? Say you upgraded fire TV to the Qualcomm 810 would each app require modification?
