I have tried my damnedest to tether the Tilt 2 and a laptop running Windows XP. I have active sync 4.5 and and SP3 XP on the Laptop. I have also loaded the previous listed cab file on the forum for tethering. The laptop recognizes two generic serial items in the device manager, however when I direct it to the USB driver .inf file it will not load the manufacturer to add the generic serial modem.
I have searched through all previous postings, and cannot figure this one out.
Any help would surely be appreciated.
if u have a cooked ROM then you can tether wireless. or unlock the SPL and search for HTC WIFI tether .cab
Works with Vista
I can get the Tilt 2 to tether with a Vista machine. This XP laptop has been the pain.

Can you please be more specific? I'm in the same boat and new to this. Tethering worked right out of the box on my Treo and now I have to pack two phones and switch the SIM card when I need to tether.
Specifically, is there a particular ROM that I need or will all cooked ROMs work? Also, what do you mean by "unlock the SPL"?
Thanks!

I offer the driver of the modem for Vista 32/64.
For Vista64 by me it is tested, now I write using it.
connect to mda
When I start the USBModem_dialer.exe on my vista desktop, and want to connect using usb modem, which is succesfully installed. I get a remote access error 692. This means a hardware failure.
Many thanks
The modem driver is great I got it installed and have had no problems with it however after installing it on my laptop running Vista Buisness Edition I am no longer able to sync with Windows Mobile Device Center. When I plug it in all it recognizes is the modem. Any ideas as to what is going on? I would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

I too followed the installation instructions exactly, but had Error 692. After extensive web-searching, found the solution. Hope it works for you - it did for me. (But no guarantee!)
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=78789
On trial and errors testing out various config changes I found that the key cause of my XP popping out the Error 692 is when I disabled Modem Compression at any end whether one and not the other or both (meaning the setting at modem properties in the Control Panel and the modem properties in the Dialup networking sections).
The fact is Modem Compression must be enabled on the Control Panel modem properties for the HTC USB modem and the modem properties in the corresponding dialup networking configuration.

Make sure you "Stop" the Modem from phone first before you connect back for sync
Hi,
Have you make sure the phone Modem is in "STOP" mode? If its still in "START" mode then you will not be able to sync it. I'm using Vista Beta version and it's working fine for me.
Hope that's help .

Can somebody help me tether a T-mobile DASH using Vista? Step by step instructions please. Thanks much!
Download and install this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
Plug your dash in to the laptop.
Hard enough?
I already downloaded this file, is there any setting that I need to change, cause its showing on vista as connected, but only as "local only" as the status, normally when its connected to the internet, it will show "local and internet". Also, will this work on a 5.99 Tzone plan? Thanks!
Yeah yeah.
MY Dash wont seem to connect properly to my PC Via the required activesync 4.5...
IDK if this is in the ROM, My computer or AS4.5
but when i plug in my phone it MIGHT connect, might not or come up with a malfunction error.
Last time it said Activesync has encountered an error and needs to close or something like that...
But if i reinstall active sync it will work just fine the first time or two
what OS are your running and which active sync? might have a issue between them if you got the wrong one.

Windows XP Home (2001)
SP2 with .net 3.5 installed
Active sync is the one for x86 XP & Vista
not sure i have had similar issues with win 7, but i also noticed there was a update for the driver that seems to have fixed it. maybe check via windows update and see (do it while phone is pluged in) if there is a update for the driver to connect it.
i'm not sure what the issue is but it seems that every rom i flash to aside from the factory rom as soon as i flash outside of it, activesync and wmdc fails to establish any form of a connection whatsoever and i have tried the wm 6.1 by kavana and the 3vo 6.5 rom and after i installing the other roms neither acticsync or wmdc won't connect but reflashing to the factory rom it works i dunno what the deal is, but i do know that after using the Excalibur USPL- CID BYPASS it refuses to conntect even if you don't flash after using this so i attribute the connection failure to the bypass fix
i finally figured out what was keeping my active sync from properly connecting and this might help you out,
active sync needs to have port 900 open to connect, if you open it in the win xp firewall add exceptions for port 900 via tcp and udp even if it's already listed do it, and if you have a secondary program such as mcafee or norton you will need to do the same in that program as well, once the ports have been opened you'll need to reboot, but it should work
I recently change my BB for a Tilt 2 but I haven't figure out how to use it as a dial up modem as I did with my BB are there any software or driver available for vista 64

Well after reading the last thread I'm still having problems my notebook doesn't recognize the phone as a standard modem I've installed various vista drivers found on other threads still no luck!!
os windows vista 64
im using vista64. it shouldnt matter which version you are using because drivers are automatically installed when you connect via usb. when i first plugged in my tp2, it automatically set everything up. dont try to configure the modem crap in MyComputer, but rather just hook up via the internet sharing app on the tp2 or if your laptop supports wifi, enable wifi on your tp2 and search for the signal on your laptop. the above mentioned forum topics should have more than helped. its easier than you make it bro. btw, are your carrier internet settings correct? here are settings for Tmobile and ATT. hope this helps.
For sure give this thread a read: Wifi Internet Sharing
It's the easiest way to turn your phone into a router and get internet on your laptop. That said, if your laptop or desktop isnt wifi enabled then you'll just have to teather it using "internet sharing" I havn't seen a rom yet (even my stock ATT rom had it I believe) that doesn't have internet sharing built into it as a standard option in the com manager or in the connections settings.
if you dont have the internet sharing app, its HERE in this thread
This most be very disappointing for all of you that have tried to help me on this issue but I'm still having problems...
List of things tried already
1. Installed internet sharing but cant get the phone to connect via usb, the wifi recieve data I've tried the phone on my home network without sim card and it browses the net without problems but can't use it as a router with or without the sim card
2. Follow the att instructions but my phone has the media net setting locked and I can't edit them
"Media Net This connection is pre configure. It cannot be modify'
3. installed all kind of drivers still not recognized as a standard modem
Last drivers instaled was using wmdriverinstaler
Even gone to you tube!!
Toshiba satellite a305 wifi enabled
vista home premiun 64
att tilt 2 rom1.59.502.3 rom date 9/25/09 wm6.5
CE OS 5.2.21849 build 21849.5.0.63
att $30 unlimited data plan ("no thethering" din't need it with the blackberry since it work as a dial up modem)
I wont give up I like this htc better than my BB curve!!!
Is it a rom issue?
Drivers issue?
att plan that has to upgragded to tehter "won't go there"
Unlocking the phone?
Thanks!!
Have you tried connecting the laptop to the phone via Bluetooth (if you have that option on your laptop)? I was trying to get Internet Sharing going this way, and once I paired the two, I got an option to use the phone as a dial-up modem, rather than just sharing the phone's ATT data connection (which sounds like exactly what you are looking for). For some reason, I got this option when I connected via Bluetooth, and not USB. Also, I'm using XP, and not Vista, so I don't know if that will change the options.

which rom are you using?
ok so if you are using the stock rom, why cant you connect? your settings are automatically set up on a stock rom. you must have done something in the connections settings to screw up your connection. just reflash the stock rom.
Well thanks for all the help and suggestions but the problem was the actual phone
I went to ATT and changed the unit and now it works fine I was able to connect via internet sharing using wifi apparently there was hardware failure with my original tilt
Thanks you for all your help!!!
I have an unlicked TP2 using it on 3 network. I want to use it as modem with my XP laptop. I can't get it to work and I have no installation disk. It syncs with my desktop running Vista but I can't get it to recognize it as a modem either. Any suggestion?

Have you tried/used the Internet Sharing app?
(Or are you saying you want to use it as a true "dial-up" modem?)
I don't have XP...so maybe it has special challenges with Internet Sharing that Vista and Windows 7 don't have...?
Have you downloaded and installed Activesync?
