Hi All,
(if this has been answered before, i have tried searching and couldn't find the answer)
I have a debranded, unlocked, rooted orange htc desire running on pays froyo v1.8
the radio i'm running is 32.43.00.32u_5.09.00.20 as advised by most devs that create the roms.
since debranding my phone my 3g connection has been really unreliable. specifically it drops off, I then have to go to airplane and then back on and it works or reboot. It has been the same across all roms i've flashed.
has anyone else had this problem? and is it a software issue or should i get a new phone because its hardware?
Is it just 3G? Does it stay on if you force it onto GSM only?
My Orange branded but unlocked device would miss calls, not send SMS and couldn't even call voicemail when it was acting up. This went away if you forced 2G.
Problem has gone away now though. My workmate had the same issues on Orange, see is thread on Android foums here.
Yep, I have the same problems now. I was originally using vodafone, but switched as they annoyed me. Now the data connection with orange is extremely erratic and sometimes I lose signal all together.
It's the same on both LeeDroid and Modaco.
Same problem here. Have to reboot the phone to get the connection back. Using OpenDesire.
But is on both 2G and 3G?
Try dropping the handset into GSM only.

Yeah, both. I had Orange send me a new sim. Now I can connect to 3g, but sometimes it just refuses to recieve any data. At least I actually have a signal though.
Me too. What i'd like is for someone still on the stock orange rom to send us their build.prop file. Anyone?

It seems to have got worse over the last few days. At times I need to make more than one attempt to dial out, the calls drops unexpectidely, and people who ring me sometimes get redirected to Voicemail even though my phone is on with good signal. Have phoned orange multiple times about it, and after diagnosing with them, still at a loss. Anyone else expereincing similar?

P.s. the phone is not rooted, however very recently I used ADB to install all apps to SD.
oh, the phone has also rebooted a few random times on it's own aswell over the last few days. I think it's all linked.
Have inserted the sim card into another phone. On my desire, while testing, out of 8 incoming calls, 2 went to Voicemail. On my other phone, out of 20 incoming calls, 0 went to voicemail. Seems that it's a fault with the phone and not Orange reception. Going to phone HTC.
Suggested I do a hard reset. I might aswell root my phone and install stock if that is the case.
Any suggestions before I waste a day?
All my previous devices, were on orange, the service was awful, texts coming hours and somtimes days late, calls going str8 to vm, slow data ect, when i got my desire i changed to tmob, and ive never looked back

Hi
I used to have an X10, that frequently put peoples calls direct to VM in full reception (even with a mate standing next to me calling it went to VM). Now i have the desire and still the same issues, I get random texts telling me I have missed calls when the phone never rang. So I'm not sure if its Orange or Android. I was previously on o2 and didn't have these issue
Update the radio part ?

If you are on GPRS (i.e. no 3G coverage at your location), and you are actively using the GPRS connection (including for background data), then it will block incoming calls as if the phone were in a call already. This is a limitation of GPRS*, and it is the same on all UK networks and all phones.
This doesn't happen with 3G/HSDPA, or if you are using Wi-Fi for your data.
I don't know if this is the OP's problem, because it shouldn't cause dropped calls once established (or affect outgoing calls, I think) but it is the effect behind what some of you are describing.
*technically, it doesn't happen with certain GPRS devices (class A?), but there are very few such phones, and there are certain network measures to avoid it, but no network uses them.
so if somebody could write an app that suspends data connection if on 2g and allows data for 3g only, then problem solved?? Obviously only for people who are not really bothered by loss of data sometimes.

I'm always on GPRS party because there's no 3G/HSDPA at home nor at where I work. So I've hard-set the phone to be GSM only and I've never missed a called so far. Even had calls come in mid facebook usage....
Edit; Tried it again now,
Box standard non-branded desire, Orange Pay As You Go.
a G icon to the left of my reception bars.
I was updating the weather widget both Up and Down arrows where lit up.
Rang from my office phone to my desire..No problems at all.......
my data connection is usually switched off (saves battery), so that isn't the cause,

Odd. Maybe Orange changed something - I've never tried with them. The network feature is called DTM, but I didn't think anyone had turned it on. I frequently miss calls on O2 because of this.
The Desire also appears to frequently lie and reports the wrong symbol much of the time - so at work with only GPRS (in the middle of nowhere and we have our own cell on our site), mine often says H for HSDPA, and yet the same problem occurs. I suppose it's possible that you're actually on EDGE.
There's a thread about it here: ht tp://androidforums.com/htc-desire/68995-not-receiving-calls-when-browsing-gprs.html
used to have this problem with my x10 on orange until i flashed a new rom and updated the baseband, hasn't dropped a call since....... the wife recently upgraded her phone to desire hd and she is now having the dropping calls/forwarding to vm problem. i reckon its got to be something wrong with the radio orange are using, get it flashed and see if it helps? that is my plan with the missus phone!
I had this happen with my phone on o2 on 3g I notice my signal bar wasn't high though an drops easily. One day i got loads of delayed msgs an calls going straight to vm. I switched my setting to use 2g only an now no problems.

That's the same work around i have been using. 2G also seems better for battery life, so now I prefer it over 3G.
OP - my partner has been experience EXACTLY the same issues as you with her AMOLED Desire.
To the point where we are possibly going to root it soon, in the hope that a new ROM/radio will resolve the issues. Not sure how viable this is though...
Dont know any specifics about this, but sometimes i can not be contacted on my phone. The people trying to phone me get a message saying "number unavailable" etc etc. Im on t-mobile uk and the reception in my area is superb. Im thinking its maybe something to do with the data connection (HSDPA) but im honestly not sure. Anyone got any ideas about how i could fix this?
Sounds like network or SIM. Have you tried you SIM in another phone?
Good evening!
i am having same problem... after playing around :
if am in 3g (with or without data) --> i can make calls but nobody can reach me (as if phone is off) - coverage is good.
if am in 2g (with or without data) --> all fine it works perfectly.
but this should not be normal i suppose. any sugestions?
regards
matthias
I have been running the ICS leak for quite some time now and haven't had any major problems with it until now. Ever since they launched LTE in my area I have been having trouble with my phone not receiving calls. When I finally talk to the person that was trying to call me, they say that it would ring twice and then go to voicemail. My phone never rings and I don't receive any notifications about missed calls. I have also noticed that when it does this, my data no longer works at all. If I toggle airplane mode, it will snap the phone out of it.
This problem seems to be growing in frequency. ATT tried to sell me some BS about the phone gets clogged with interference from travelling through low signal areas and they re-registered my phone on the network and told me to give it a try. My phone is still having this issue. LG had no clue what was going on with my phone.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be going on and what I can do to fix this?
New rom? Just in case something did happen with the rom somehow.

I'm also having the same problem on official Bell ICS...

Why not use the official release?

Voice data is not sent over the LTE network but instead is sent over EDGE, HSUPA or HSDPA (gsm) networks. This is because LTE was designed to handle data only. Currently a few mobile operators are begging to launch voice over LTE capabilities (VoLTE). However ATT does not support VoLTE capabilities so whenever you place or receive a call your handset will switch to the gsm network to handle voice. After the call has ended your handset usually takes a few seconds to automatically switch back to LTE if available. During the time your phone is switching back networks your data will be inaccessible. If your phone does not switch back or your data never returns then you can toggle on/off airplane mode to reset it as you have mentioned doing. This should not be happening very often, unlike what you describe. What I would suggest is flashing HoNo's CWM official V20c ICS from att. This will update your phones baseband and firmware for your radios and I've also heard is more stable and has improved battery life. Hope I could help.

I had the same problems with the leak at home where I have a weak signal. Never had any problems with CM9 or GB. When I switched to the official rom all those problems went away. So I think it was just a baseband issue with the leak.

We ( my wife and I) got the same issue... With Bell.
So we sent both phone ( GB by the way non root ) to bell to get them repair ...
Sent back the phone... 1 h later ... got the same issue .. so they ( futuretel in Markham Ont Canada) dont find the issue, they just reflash the phone.
sent it and ... weeks later got it back ... lost it again ... but they change hardware and also reflash.
Now it's my turn ...
I'm still waiting for my phone because when i got it back, got issue ( probably firmware ) because I lost the speaker and speakerphone ... so if someone call me i was not able to ear them...
Sent back the phone again for repair and now i'm waiting.
Update my wife phone 2 day's ago with ICS from LG( bell ) and I dont think she got the issue.
If it's happening again, LG will have to step in because it's 2 repair for the same issue.
Since we are not alone in this situation we will be able to remove the hypothesis
of interference in our house!
And again ... when I was talking with someone from Bell support, I told them I would like to try custom Rom if the issue is still there...
The person agree with me... yes weard from someone from bell...
Other than that ... it would be good for people to "catlog" the drop signal / no voice service...
Some one have a good tool that can track that specific issue ?
Thanks!
Hi. I recently bought (almost new) second hand N7105 and having really little troubles with it, one irritates me pretty much.
On are where Im living there is really good 4g and 3g signal. Everytime I reboot the phone and give pin, it goes for roaming mode for
aproximately 1 minute before getting to network. If its on 4g and I make a call or someone calls, it switches to 3g but after the call,
dont switch back to 4g.
When I switch it in network mode option, com.android.service crashes EVERY time. But it still switches it.
And when im in 3g mode it seems to prefer 3g more than H+ so like browsing on net it drops to 3g but when clicking a link etc.
phone does nothing before it has switched to H+.
I did call to customer service and they thought its maybe a update that didnt install correctly and adviced me to do factory reset.
That just made it worse. I really dont fancy to send it for repair since it seems to be only software problem but on other hand,
I dont wanna loose warranty by flashing custom rom at this point. Any advices or ideas?
Let me put it this way... What is the easiest way to install stock firmware without losing warranty?
And does it contain risks like changing imei?
