I decided to put this in development section to be sure that EVERY cooker sees it! In the dream's zone they've already ported an almost fully-functional froyo! And guess what...IT RUNS ON .29 KERNEL! Does it mean that all the drivers for eclair will work with froyo too? I'm not really sure about it but I suppose you're all waiting for the complete rom are you? Then you will modify it to run on Hero? I really hope so...By the way here the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686105
I thought it might be useful to some developer that has not enough time to take a look to other sections of the forum And, in my honest opinion, I think eclair development should be stopped in favor of froyo...That's all folks!

Come on man give it some time.
The current builds are based on the SDK or the nexus one ota or a mix of those.
Wait till google releases the source to git and see what happens.
I have already ported Froyo since day 1 (sdk), but useability was very low.
I'll have a look at the nexus build and make a hybrid, since looks like it's the most successful atm.

It was already clear that Froyo will work with the .29 kernel.
The earliest builds where used with the emulator-images in the SDK that got released (like adwinp did). Nothing too functional, but fun to play with for a bit.
Chefs could work with porting the officially released Nexus1 ROM...
.. but I guess, that they are waiting for the source to hit the official Android git's. (Is android even using git?). Trying to port a ROM for a device with different resolution and hardware isn't impossible, but compiling from official source is easier.
So if the source hits quickly (and people guess it is) they can compile from source, use a .29 kernel (which everybody is playing and testing with now) and have a pretty good functional froyo build

Try removing the browsingie folders and replace it with older versions from an older SYS or collapsing the modules. I believe the older kernel from your device's old XIP probably doesn't support as many modules as the new SYS has. I also removed windows live and all the extra crap from the SYS in my exca ROM. Try doing that
NRG if you could i think we would all REALLY REALLY appreciate it if you could take a spin at making an energy rom for the cavalier similar to the excalibur. If its not too much trouble. i for one would LOVE you and be willing to have your babies =) but seriously i would be willing to donate and i think others would be willing to aswell. Thanks!

Welcome back WDM. I remember when I first got my vogue 2 years ago yours was one of the first roms I used. I dont have a spare vogue as its my only phone. I'd be happy to beta test or help in any other way I can. Its good to see you back
I can put out a rom....but i cannot guarentee it will even work lol
Good to see you back WDM!
I'll definetly give any roms you decide to put out a shot... been flipping between android and winmo a lot and my vogues gonna be decomissioned soon. So I'll probably just be using it for fooling around with.
Thanks to avid fan, I am going to be back in business ASAP. He was more then happy to donate his Vogue to an old developer.

Because of Hugh's obvious error with 4G/HDMI in Gingerbread, he has been fired. Development will now be handled by HTC. They promise a Gingerbread ROM with 4G and HDMI in… 8 months. 10/5/2011: mark your calendars.

That is the funniest **** I have read in a long time...sigged
Lmao I couldn't stop laughing for a while, I knew he would get flame, anyways back to the topic Idk how much knowledge you have about development roms in general and what stage the Evo is in the moment, to start the Evo is in froyo version 2.2 (there is a version 2.2.1 and 2.2.2) and it was released by sprint/HTC which they make the codes for the front facing camera (back then it was the first Android device with it that I know) , 4G and HDMI so they practically used they own source not android (but it did involved android) now cm7(gingerbread 2.3.2) is based on AOSP (android open source project) and the developer/s cynogen get all their source from Google android open source which back then(eclair 2.1/froyo 2.2) they didn't have a way to make the ffc camera and wimax (now they have ffc camera but not wimax or HDMI) , what really good developers are doing is writing a code for wimax almost 8 months later (is really hard to make it from scratch is not just a copy and paste job, they been working on it for months ) to work on an aosp rom which is great, the ones on sense (wimax/4G) don't work cause is tied to sense framework, so until HTC realease a official update the Evo will be considerer gingerbread (2.3.1/2.3.2) and HDMI and4G will work if they ever update it BTW this thing ain't easy to do and that's one thing the android fragmentation with all carriers and phone makers have a problem with and that's where cynogen mod come to the rescue ha ha, cm/sense user BTW

you fail
back to business: there is none, because gingerbread roms are roms from either the sdk or nexus s that have been ported. the devs had to re-write all the kernel codes and radio codes and everything. that is FREAKING HARD TO DO!
recently, toastchf and shinzul actually wrote a wimax code to work on gingerbread. THEY FREAKING REVERSE ENGINEERED WHAT PROBABLY TOOK HTC/SPRINT MONTHS. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS?
where is your development? i see none. i just see you asking for something that took months of hard work that is actually like 3 threads below yours.
edit: just realized i'm in the q&a section. srry... regret...

+1 on that... I honestly see more people asking real (hate to say it) stupid questions in here more than anything else. Nobody takes the time out to look for sh&t and then get mad when they are told to do some research. Thats why we have pages and pages of people destroying their phones. Keep up the good work guys of smacking people like this around it keeps me coming back and laughing....
P.S.A - People do some lurking before you ask dumb questions and do some searching as well. Don't root flash or do anything related to that until you do your damn homework.... Deuces!

Could you rephrase that? Install what? CM9? You will just have to flash it with CWM. You won't need to re-unlock your bootloader. It is a custom rom, not official, so your unlocked bootloader will remain unlocked.

CM9 stuff . It's going to be like AOSP - just bare-bone ICS with CM9's extras.
it'll be faster, more customizable, and well, CM9 man.
I can say right now its faster than stock ICS leaks we've had so far. I have proof....

Im going to assume your the new member of the team that ive been hearing about just modded the audio driver, should add mic support. you should pop on IRC some time
I understand that the biggest problem here is the kernel, and that nobody cared to put in the required work for 4.3 since it brought absolutely nothing of importance. However, 4.4 brings a huge amount of new features, but most importantly, as many of you know, it has vastly improved support for lower-end devices, such as the HOV. I know that building a kernel is a huge amount of work, but I think that for a legacy device this cool, it's actually worth it. Will anyone actually go for it? khmhellboykhm
its not that nobody cared, people bought new phones and moved on
@bradthomas127 got 4.3 booting for the CDMA variant so I'm sure its possible! We will just have to be patient and see
I'm waiting on @cybervibin & @lilrob1213 to get it up and running and then i will steal it and post is as my own ROM just like i did with Carbon4.3
It's going to be a while before i'll even look into it, it will probably be another month before CM starts even releasing KitKat branches onto GitHub.
I've been watching all the trouble Lloir has been having on IRC trying to build 4.4 AOSP and i dont think this is going to be a easy process.
I have made a kitkat branch and have started doing some big clean up getting ready it.

A LOT!
Hm nice laptops, but back to topic, I would like to know how hard it would be to get working 4.4 into the HOV.
Also do you guys know why kids love the flavor of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

I understand that the biggest problem here is the kernel, and that nobody cared to put in the required work for 4.3 since it brought absolutely nothing of importance. However, 4.4 brings a huge amount of new features, but most importantly, as many of you know, it has vastly improved support for lower-end devices, such as the HOV. I know that building a kernel is a huge amount of work, but I think that for a legacy device this cool, it's actually worth it. Will anyone actually go for it? khmhellboykhm

Everybody are pissing their pants waiting for KitKat but don't forget about growing number of non-compatible apps sometimes those apps are very important
