help with unroot, got odd problem - Desire General

i am getting so sick of this usb-brick especially because i have no way of unrooting my phone :S if someone could help me get my phone unrooted to generic rom i would be so gratefull! the thing that happens when i try to unroot with generic ruu ( before you ask i use the one for correct bootloader version, i run .75) is that when searching for my rom image it says FAILED too many links ( or something like that) and then the phone just freezes and i need to take out battery. i have tried almost all the usb ports on my pc and it just wont work. i boot into fastboot and connect usb then run the ruu.
anyone have a fix for the problem? btw my phone is nordic version which is unlocked so i did not use goldcard.
is it possible to extract rom out of generic ruu so i could put it on sd and flash it through the stock recovory image?( http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi.../recovery-menu/ ) as it is probably htc signed?

[Q] Have i killed my desire?

Hi All,
Apologies for my first post being a cry for help but im seriously screwed at the moment.
I have a UK t-Mobile Desire that came preinstalled with 2.1, and so the story of my rooting failure begins.
First of all i tried using Unrevoked 3.1 and apparently this worked, but i was no longer able to enter recovery mode at all.
Following this i tried applying the Amon Ra loader to my device. Once this was completed the phone was seemlingly working fine but i still could not get into recovery mode, it would jsut hang on the circular logo.
By now im pretty fedup with the whole thing and i decided to unroot my device using the unlocker video guide and the unmodified RUU from this site.
Now my device boots (i guess) but the screen no longer works, at all. All i want to do is restore my phone to its factory state so i can use it.
Can please anyone help a poor newbie out.
You haven't killed it, but you should have read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749551
That includes a link to fix it, though it's not easy.
thanks for the response but according to the boot screen i had hboot 0.75
Your problem is SLCD. The bootloader is not relevant.
Sorry to be a complete numpty, but what process do i need to complete, there seem to be several options on that link.
thanks, i really appreciate any help
If you want to upgrade directly to Froyo just install this RUU (easy):
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
If you want to try to get Android 2.1 back then this thread (difficult):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750852
I just tried the "easy" option and got the following error message from the Rom update utility.
ERROR[131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utilility and try again.
You need a goldcard in the phone.
Ok, thanks for your help.
I will dissapear for an hour or two and see if i can get this fixed.
Eitherway many thanks for your help
Insert the goldcard, run the RUU, and it will be fixed.
when i try to create the goldcard i get an "error: device not found" message when running the adb ****** command
you create the gold card in your pc not the phone. i think
I am doing it on my pc, but it would seem that my pc cant "see" the desire. Im guessing that either USB debugging is off, or the phone is connected to the pc in anotehr "mode"
sigh
you make the goldcard on pc. then insert it into the phone
It must be that USB debugging is off. Does anyone know how to turn this on remotely or without seeing the screen?
Just use the goldcard you originally used with the RUU that broke your screen.
Or did you use a t-mobile branded RUU?
I dont have it
I used the tmobile branded one
When you flash an RUU you are restored to factory defaults, so usb debugging is off.
It is possible to enable usb debugging blindly if you read the other link I posted. It's difficult. Without a goldcard you cannot flash an SLCD-compatible RUU, which is the only way you can recover the phone. There aren't any branded RUUs available that support SLCD.

[Q] Please HELP! I cannot access recovery or OS

I flashed my HTC Desire with O Desire. It didn't reboot and now it can't access the recovery. I partitioned my sd card before flashing .. but I forgot to put my files back .. so that may be the problem. Is my recovery messed up now ? How would I be able to fix this without going into recovery !
It's a Telus SLCD one. It goes into the bootloader fine, but it won't go into recovery . I've tried using unrevoked again to put another recovery but I realized that I can't activate USB debugging in the bootloader.
Please help, I'm a university student living away from home, and I have no way to contact my family!
I had a similar problem trying to install a custom rom on my telstra slcd desire, and buggered the OS and recovery. I was able to recover back to stock by going into fastboot on the phone then flashing an official RUU from HTC.

Could you give me a step by step on how to do that?
Also would it matter which RUU I use ? I'm planning to try rooting it again anyway.
I'd hate to double post but I need to fix this problem ASAP. I have no way to contact my family because we only communicate through phone. Is there anyway to fix this problem ?
I also tried using an RUU but it failed, probably because I don't have a goldcard. But how can I make a goldcard without the phone ?!
Try running this official stock RUU that is compatible with SLCD Desires, link is here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...1.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_137222_signed.exe
I've tried this rom, it doesn't work :S. It's most likely because it's a Telus desire and I have no goldcard. Any suggestions? I'm really running out of ideas. :S
EDIT: Is it because my current version is 1.29.661.1 and the install shield is trying to "upgrade" it to 1.21.405.2 ?
Can you try the "reset device" option in either h-boot or fastboot. I've had a similar ordeal on a hero and that took care of it, I was able to boot back into recovery.

[Q] stock ruu unable to flash

hi guys im trying to flash a stock ruu and cant quite get it working
ive tried everything (turning off internet connection,3 different updates of the ruu, flashing while phone is off...)
i have a telstra branded desire rooted running rcmix s v1.2
i have tried all 3 telstra ruus from htc site and get either unable to connect via usb or something like the wrong hboot.]ill try to find my goldcard but is there any other way i can unroot without a goldcard
as always help is appreciated
You have a branded desire right? I gather this from the fact, that you are talking about a goldcard, which you only need, if u want to remove a branding. With such a branded desire you cannot use a RUU by HTC. You need to use the RUU of your provider. Download the latest RUU (complete OTA-Update) from your provider's website and install it. This should work.
Did you try flashing true fastboot?
1. Boot up your phone in the bootloader.
2. Select fastboot.
3. Run the Telstra ruu
Thanks for the help everyone...i flashed a stock rom without apps2ds or data2we tried flashing again with phone on got half way through and had usb connectivity error so went into fastboot and did it from there and it worked.
made a goldcard for future use if i need to and went through the whole noobs guide to root and now have
rooted htc desire
s-off with alpharev...had trouble with this as well but thats in my other post and it worked fine
now reflashing rcmix s v1.1 and get my apps back.
thanks again everyone and moderator can remove this thread if needed

Sending phone to repair, which ROM to flash

I am sending in my phone to get it repaired. The phone has been rooted. Unrooting it shouldnt be a problem but which ROM do I flash ?
Thanks
Look in Desire HD Android Development and choose one.
Mine is LeeDroid's and I find it good and stable. Never tried another one.

I'd flash your stock RUU from here
most preferbly the stock rom which comes together with your phone
Thanks guys
I would flas a 1.32.405.6 RUU, root and do an S-ON as explained at the and of first post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
I am not able to flash a RUU as my laptop does not identify my phone for some reason. Unless there is another way of doing it.
Restore the nadroid back-up that you hopefully did before flashing a custom rom.
I am still having problems flashing the stock ROM 1.32.405.6 RUU.When I connect my phone to the laptop and try to flash it, it either tells me that the Battery is below 30 % (which is isn't) or error 170 USB connection error (It can not connect to the Phone)
I had a problem with SD card and lost the backup ROM that I had.
Any ideas?
did you install HTC Sync for the drivers on your laptop?
I managed to sort it in the end.
Thanks guys for all your help
I think you should to use Android Revolution (mike1986). This is best ROM for DHD

[Q] Unable to load ROM

Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help, have bricked my Australian Optus stock One X. I have tried to follow all threads related to loading stock or custom roms from fastboot and am unable to. I still have CWM recovery 5.8.2.7 touch installed.
I had previously rooted it and installed Android Revolution HD 5.1.0 and seemed to be fine but was unstable and would crash and reboot in certain apps. In trying to revert back to stock I stupidly formatted the SD card, DUMB ASS!
I have downloaded stock rom 1.29.401.7-DUO, all-in-one rootkit, and the ARHD ROM and have tried to either:
1) flash ARHD with bootloader still unlocked, doesn't work
2) follow reflashing stock process ie flash stock recovery, relock bootloader, then flash stock ROM, and am getting stuck on just reflashing the stock recovery. When I try to open stock recovery it takes me to a black screen with a red ! in a triangle, this is with the bootloader relocked.
If anyone is able to help an enthusiast noob like me I'd be very appreciative and would also be more than willing to donate for the trouble.
MAKE SURE you have exactly the right RUU for your phone, whatever the rom was on you were using, ie, 1.26, 1.28, 1.29, you need the same version of RUU, i discovered the problem trying to flash RUUs and after 2 days finally got the correct one, thats when i realised, unlike on other phones, you cant downgrade the One X and when recovering it seems to prefer the one that matches what you were using.
Also make sure youre cid is supported in that RUU, ie, HTC 001, TMOB 054, etc etc, mine can only accept 401 roms, so they must match exactly, until we can get S-Off this problem will remain, dont worry about recovery, so the guide on in case of disaster, you cant go wrong with it, relock your bootloader and get your RUU installed, from their update it to your latest ics version and then if you must reflash your cwm and root it.
Thanks for the info, graemeg. After downloading an RUU that was .exe file, I felt I was getting closer, as it was an AU Optus RUU. But it turns out that my current version is 1.28.980.10 and the RUU version was 1.26.980.3 and so yes I met with the non-downgrading issue.
It seems that there is not currently a stock 1.28.980.10 RUU at the moment, so might be using this as an ornament for much longer than I would have hoped/thought. Bummer.

You can get 1.28.980.10 from htcdev downloads. I would link but I'm a new user, just filter by One X, Optus, and it's there.
Thanks again for the help. I have seen those files on htcdev website, but don't know how to use them
I don't know how to load a RUU that is not a .exe file...if anyone is able to assist, again, I would really appreciate it and will donate once up and running again.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I have tried to follow the thread that explains how to load/flash recovery and boot images via fastboot in command prompt, and have not been able to. So I don't think I'm a complete dumb ass, but do need someone with the knowledge and patience to guide me through it. Please!
First thing first, do you have the right RUU with you ?
If not, maybe this is the one for you : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_258004_signed.exe
second: do you have fastboot directory set up on your pc ? and htc usb driver too ?
Just starting the download now, I think that could be the RUU I've been looking for. Yes I have the drivers and fastboot directory. Will give this RUU a go and let you know, thanks for the quick reply, ckpv5!
Most important before you run the RUU, you need to:
1) have a stock recovery flashed to you your device first (I believe you already have one)
2) relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
3) run RUU, it should work.
THANK YOU!
ckpv5, thank you for the link to the updated RUU. Phone is functioning again, stock. Donation coming your way. Thanks for all your help. agentorange82.
