Nexus One users already receiving Froyo! - Desire General

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/22/android-2-2s-froyo-goodness-hitting-the-nexus-one-already/
Check the comments as well, other people are saying they got froyo.
Hopefully we can get it ported soon enough!

Just saw this too...was about to post it.
This is great news if it's true but could quite easily be a fake which would be disapointing. But i REALLY hope it is true so us Desire users get it soon!
EDIT: Theres more info and pics over at http://techcrunch.com/2010/05/22/android-froyo-nexus-one/

a lot of people on twitter are posting about it to if you search for froyo

manual update found! so anyone with an n1 can download it now!
can devs start getting this ported to the desire now then?

Desire Froyo 2.2 Beta Test - Interested?

Would anyone be interested in beta testing the Desire Froyo Android 2.2 ROM?
If enough of us offer to do this, there is a chance we can speed up the release of 2.2 to the Desire, and get early access to the ROM and most importantly app2sd.
Interested? Leave your name here after you have emailed HTC to let them know.
This is silly, what are you thinking? That's not how big companies like HTC work.
More constructive than whining, what ideas have you come up with? If you don't think it will work, please feel free to ignore the thread and you won't be bothered with it.
BTW I have done with with a few companies now and it's worked well.
Trust me this will accomplish nothing more then receiving a generic mail from HTC that they are doing everything they can to provide users with amazing updates. Don't mean to rain on your parade but thats just what I (and I assume a lot other rational people) believe.
About ideas; how about waiting?
Thanks for your helpful input. No harm in trying is there? It's my time I'm wasting, and yours if you continue reading this thread. Bye
http://www.htc.com/au/cs_mail.aspx
Please post topics like this in the general section.
Can a Mod move this then? I honestly thought it was related to Desire development?
This will achieve absolutely nothing. And here's why -
If HTC let you "beta test" any of their software and something goes wrong (Phone bricked, permanently?), who's liable? sure, we could all sign a disclaimer waiving HTC of any wrongdoing, but people will still complain and HTC will still get a lot of flak from it. So why bother when you can just wait?
If you WANT to "beta test" the rom, just wait a week or two - N1's are getting updated, people will dump the rom (probably have already) and it wont take much to port it to the Desire (minus sense, of course). There you go, there's your beta test.
Wow. You honestly think that HTC will give a fl*ng f*ck? Obviously, you have never worked with/for a corporate business.
You mean like the ones I've beta tested with before? Look at least I'm trying some positive suggestions rather than just whining about not having app2sd, at least I'm trying something. And who cares? It's no skin off your back so what's the big deal?
Either way, the reports of random bricking by rooting bother me, so I'm desperately trying to avoid rooting, while desperately craving app2sd (for legitimate paid software, not to break copy protection even if it can do that).
Mods please move this thread to General.....or even better just close it.
These pointless "lets write to HTC" threads always end the same way, HTC wont give a monkeys...Its a nice idea, but a little naive
Next we will have threads offering sexual favours to htc staff for 2.2

Actually thinking about it,,,,that sounds like a much better idea than emailing them
Indeed, can't wait tbh. First sexual favors and then Froyo as desert!

I seriously doubt that. If you were a beta tester you wouldn't cry about the risks of rooting like a little girl

HTC Confirms Desire 2.3 Plans

HTC Confirms 2.3 Desire Plans
Bit of a news flash here, sorry if it's in the wrong section but this is more of an anser to an un-asked question, y'get me?
Anyway, HTC confirmed yesterday that they WILL be updating the current Desire range upto 2.3. This includes the Desire, the Z and the HD. Hope this helps with the concerns that HTC were ditching the Desire for the Desire S.
For the rest of the information, check out this page.
The link goes to CNET
*It's likely that rather than being 2.3, the Desire will be getting 2.4, which is the latest release from Google. This is no different from 2.3 but contains some very minor bugfixes.
Nice! A bit long to wait though.
Thanks for the info!
wow thanx for the great news! made my day
i hope its worth waiting
when we will get it?

no problem, I was randomly searching the Internet for any articles that could shed any light on the current Desire situation we are all going through, and I just happened to find that neat post that was only put on there today. Alas the Desire lives on, I guess with it being so popular HTC decided to make it, however I'm not expert but from a Market view of things, I seriously doubt Honeycomb will be coming to the Desire range, as none boast dual processors and with the update coming so late, it would be a large Market downside for HTC, why develop Honeycomb for a device that's waited 6 months for a 2.4 update... Anyway I'm just glad that within my first few days of being at XDA that I have been able to help people with the Desire information, I know I only sourced it, but this stops a lot of peoples worries, and it looks promising that we WILL be getting the new sense time for a beer I think xD
We re starting to feel just like the Xperia X10 users and their updates it all goes according to HTC's plan. Nevertheless its good to know we'll be getting the new sense and and Android.

I think that the reaosn why it's taking so long really lies with Google. If they hadn't of had the 2.3 exclusivity with the Nexus S, then the chances are we would have our update much quicker. However HTC should be concentrating on Software just as much as new Products. Existing customers are just as important as potentially new Customers, and at the moment it looks like they are focusing their business on creating new products, and not updating the current ones. Not a good business plan at all.
with the way that our providers play about with it , as stated in the article it will be xmas before its out
I won't look forward to the update because waiting for updates ALWAYS dissappointed me in the past...

That's one of the benefits of De-branding. My HTC Desire came branded with the Orange software (which left me with 100MB of free space) I de-braded, updated to Froyo 2.2 and had something like 143MB of free space left, and whenever HTC release an update I immidiatley recieve it. My HTC has Orange logo's on it and everything, but it's de-branded.

Waiting is rubbish, HTC need to seriously take a good look at Customer Loyalty, but i'll wait HTC Sense is the best thing about the Desire.
Bah that is a long ass wait. I think I shall stick with CM7.

It's not the 2.4 update we can't wait for, its the new Sense, well in my case it is anyway. 2.3/4 isn't a very good update? It's a few icons and support for some other Hardware, Honeycomb should be interesting.

You are aware that if the last OTA is anything to go by you won't be able to update without using an RUU? Even with a gold card

What do you mean mate? If it's OTA, than its not an RRU?

There is hope for CM9 / ICS 4.0.3 + Sense

HTC just confirmed upgrade for the Incredible S, your GSM brother.

Just hopefully hold out a little bit more.
Dude this is great news. That means we'll probably get a good port soon.
Nice! On the edge of my seat.
this is kinda old news man, everyone knows HTC won't update ours but is updating a couple other phones with just the same capabilities

Except for it was only a rumor until now that the incS was gonna be getting it
Sent from my Mikrunny'd Superphone using magic
yeah i had posted the link in the ics discussion thread a few days ago
*only* thing that worries me is that we havent followed inc s update patch (they have official sense 3.0 we doesnt)
and while smarter folks then me might be able to do something with the kernel source, i certainly cant
but the camera files should fix all that stuff for aosp id imagine
I don't think we need to worry about getting it for our exact phone, but as long as we have for the incredible S. At least, our dev's will be able to get some of the hardware working completely.

either way we want an ota for us as that gives us 3.xx kernel source at some point
Right, we have a ICS discussion thread here...

Please no more new threads, they will just get closed.
cheers colossus.

[Q] ICS can now drop any day!

I am wondering if someone can answer how good is HTC on getting it out ASAP when the time comes. My guess being optimistic would be middle or end of July.
I REALLY hope we don't have to wait till august so people who have experiences with HTC with updates how good are they at getting it out?
You really didn't quite check this forums section before you made this topic did you.

[Q] exFAT SD issues on JELLYTIME for DHD/Inspire 4G 4.3 Beta 2

I am posting on here because I still haven't gotten any replies on my original post I did under the HTC Inspire 4G section. As many of you know, the Desire HD and the Inspire 4G share exactly the same (ace) hardware. So here's my original post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451065
Please take a look and contribute, if it's in your hands.
Thanks!

"Bumping" my post is of not help if people only visit the Inspire 4G forums or the Desire HD ones. I wish XDA could merge both so we wouldn't be here discussing if this reference to my original post is spam or not. I hope your "spam report" doesn't go through, considering that it comes from a person who can't even spell and/or proofread. I clearly stated

I am happy there's a "thumbs down" icon I can use to reply to your post, even though it makes no difference at all.
No changes... so far.
I have tested the 4.3 Beta 2 to 6 versions of this ROM but still experiencing the same results. I also decided to give it a shot to the 4.4 Trainweck 1, 2, and 3 versions; with no luck. I am trying 4.4 Beta 1 tomorrow and see if this time around I get to see some kind of improvement. Apparently, nobody else is aware of this issue but me. I really, really hope @randomblame could get to see this thread. If anybody can PM to tell him about it or show me how to, I'd highly appreciate it.
Original post updated (my sad history), but nothing has changed yet in favor of this bug. Patiently waiting for a possible fix
Thread closed since you have that thread already ------^
