Can anyone please recommend some REALLY power saving Radio rom?
I'm currently using 1.54.30
I like 1.54.07.00. Its a good compromis between power and battery drain.
I think 1.47 was the version with the lowest battery drain for me yet...
1.47.00.10 seems to do the job for me.. moderate usage of voice & data (UMTS 2100)..
thank you so much for responding... i will try 1.54.07...
yes, 1.47 is the best radio I also have used.
i'm trying 1.54.07...using it now...will see how is the battery drainage...
what is so good about 1.47 anyway? just to compare...
2 cents on this topic - the observation of battery drain is somewhat subjective. I'd suggest someone do an extended test where the phone has a current drain logging program and track drain for each phone mode - data connection - transfer / phone use / idle and do a statistical comparison.
With a lack of good data? I'd think that the latest rev would have changes for some reason - hopefully a good one.
I'm using the latest 1.54 without performance issues.
hi all
I am using 1.54.07.00 radio, I use to get call from my gf every night for straight 3 hours. All these time my wifi is also active. Most of the days I get 40-50% of battery after I finish the call. So I think it is pretty impressive, isnt it?
Cheers
Jish
I'm working on a way to evaluate this.. I agree with mattk_r that it will probably vary drastically by region, usage, configuration, network, etc. But at least for my case, wi-fi is almost always off and my phone is in 'sleep'/'suspend' with Flexmail email running an IDLE (PUSH) IMAP email session in the background. Just a note, the way this works, the phone still gets to sleep and anytime a packet/data is received over the GPRS/3G connection the phone is woken up in unattended mode (no backlight) so that the maill app can process the message and notification then the phone returns to sleep state. So my goal is to pseudo-scientifically figure out which radio works best for my use.
To figure that out I have written a pair of programs that simulate the IMAP IDLE connection of an email client. (Why not use the real thing? I want the experiment to be the same everytime I run it, I can't guarantee that with email and software that I don't know the intricacies of.) One half runs on the phone to simulate the phone email client, and one half runs on a server that sends periodic messages to the phone to wake it up. When the phone is waken up it sends its current estimate of the battery life remaining (as reported by Windows API) to the server for logging.
In order to run my tests, everynight I have/plan to do the following procedure.
Flash a new radio to the phone for test
Charge the battery fully
Soft-Reset phone
Run my program
And then in the morning I dump the server log and generate a nice pretty graph of battery remaining v. hours on. This has obvious deficiencies such as
The phone never actually moves, it is on my nightstand so this won't simulate an active day where the radio is having to select the best tower.
When I wake up my battery is not dead, so I am not able to measure time from total charge to total discharge.
Even with these deficiencies and possibly more, I believe that this will give a decent benchmark as to which radios perform better than others. (in terms of battery life) So far I have conducted this for 2 nights and 2 radios, both running in 2G mode. The next two nights I will probably re-run the tests for 3G enabled just to see if that causes a significant change in the result.
So see this pretty graph to see what's happened so far... I'll post updates as I progress.
Oh yeah, I'm on ATT/Cingular Network in USA/TX.
Results in summary:
So far, I have tested radios 1.47.30.10 and 1.54.30.10 and gotten practically identical results for battery life. In my day of use for each radio, I have not noticed any call quality issues with either radio.
Other techniques: ?
There probably are other techniques to accomplish this, such as a program that measures battery discharge current. My gut feeling is to not trust these for this analysis because those programs typically have a low sampling rate and I don't know where they get there information and if that is a reliable source. And the other problem, I haven't found any such programs that can do it when the phone decides to go into the sleep mode and radio is having to maintain an idle but yet present connection to the cellular network.
Feedback anyone? Ideas?
dear experts, i've flashed 1.54.07 radio rom, but i soon discovered that i've lost my HSDPA connection to network. now i can only have 3G connection. Even though i tried to enable HSDPA in Schap's Config...but still no result...
Help please...or please suggest which radio rom which has got HSDPA enabled...
p/s: i think 1.54.07 is power consumption friendly becoz it has disable HSDPA connection...
what do u guys think?
HSDPA is enabled in that rom. Been using it with pandora naked rom with no issues whatsoever.
that's weird...hmmm....I'm using Schap's 3.57a ROM...previously have HSDPA b4 i upgrade to this rom...

INDEED !!!
I was go with 1.54.30... then I have a trouble to find "3G" (somethimes it was hard to find "E") then I switch back to 1.50.00... and everything is ok (I mean from the same place I live, I found "3G" successfully). The battery drain should be have relation with the connection and that's vary in other country IMHO
Still on 1.43 and seem to be doing just fine with battery life. Maybe I will try the 1.47
Switch to 1.50.00....HSDPA returns...
So i can presume that 1.54.07 has got no HSDPA enabled for power saving...
What say experts?
Ok, Let me first say, This website and the people on it have helped me and others so many times. It's a great website with many talented people. However, I know nobody has to help anyone on here, but please listen to this and only help or post something if you have a fix or are having the same problem.
I don't want to sound rude, but I made a thread a while ago and got 9 pages of people saying that "my battery is fine" or people telling me stuff I already know, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE only post if you can help fix the problem or are in the same boat so we can try and get a fix.
Please don't put in the thread " My battery is fine" or "Do a hard reset" even though it seems that is the only way to fix it, I am going to reinstall all of my apps, and its most likely going to happen again.
Background information
I am rooted and running CM6, but have had this problem with the stock ROM, and many other ROMS, doing a hard reset has not helped me in the past, because after restoring my apps, and settings it seems to come back again. I am going to give you as much information as possible to help me with my battery, because I am sure I am not the only one with this problem.
My device
I am rooted and running CM6 and I absolutely love it, it is hands down the best ROM I have used, but I took my phone off the charger, send one text message, loaded up 3 web pages, and refreshed my email, and the battery percentage was down to 93% in 4 minutes of use my battery went down 7%!!!!!!!
I have had this battery drain issue with CM6, Fresh ROM, stock (rooted) rom, and Non-Rooted Stock.
Homescreen
Currently I am using LauncherPro, but ADW.launcher comes with the ROM, and I have had the same problem with that. Here is my setup to show that I am not using any data intensive widgets.
Home screen: besides all of my app icons, I am going to list all of my widgets.
1. Digital Clock Widget-It is a widget that works without an application, but their is an optional application that I don't have installed.
2. Stock android calender widget
3. Stock android 2x2 music widget
4. Beautiful widgets- silent and airplane mode toggle
5. Stock android power control

Please if anyone can help fix this I would greatly appreciate it, It may seem that the only fix is the hard reset, but their has got to be some app, or setting that is keeping my phone on or killing the battery, if anyone has found that one of these apps or settings had killed their battery, please share, and we can fix our problem.
Thanks
P.S. My battery was at 93% at the beggining of this post, and the screen was on for about 6 minutes total so I can list all of the apps and settings and its npw at 85%
install setcpu, underclock the processor, have it @ 245mhz when screen is off
make sure you are signed out of google talk and go in to settings to uncheck auto sign in since doing that its taking a load off my battery .
also underclocking when screen is off helps alot use wifi when you can or just turn off the data to save loads of battery juice
also are you running the RC1 or a nightly ?
newest nightly is doing very well on the battery hit 19 hours so far with 18% juice left
Your time without signal is 40%, so you are going to get the battery drained.
TWS is your problem and that will not change on any rom.
Now, your PRI is going to be locked in because you are rooted. So maybe a new PRI (no way to update now that you are rooted we are stuck) could possibly help with TWS.
Another thing I know I mentioned in the other post. Do a fresh install and don't install any apps. Just use the phone. If that makes a difference, than it is an app causing your problem.
Eliminate all possibilities until you have a solution.

yea just read that TWS is kill a battery quick !
kill the data when your in a building or areas that will make the data work harder
ALSO is any of the apps your running from a 2.1 backup ? if so that could be it too i had major battery troubles with my 2.1 back ups on 2.2
Go to running processes under settings>applications, see how many are running...if you have more than 5 running processes at a time.
.your battery will suffer. Use startup auditor to prevent apps processes not in use from starting on boot
you may want to check that your default PRL is set for cdma and not gsm.
there is a post in the dev forum about it.
you will need your MSL number, get it from sprint customer service or use cdma workshop trial. I've used both, I recommend calling sprint its fast and free.

i have my msl can you link that info please
The PRL shouldn't be an issue with the Evo. That was some type of hero 1.6 bug.
Also, I don't think the data codes work with Froyo.
You can try to download the "Network" app from the market and see if that works.
I was having a battery drain issue ever since 2.2
I think I have it fixed now though. First up. Did you wipe everything in between ROMS? I know this is redundant. But it is important, many custom ROMS have several cache, memory writing and reading tweaks applied and if the phone needs a fresh start from every angle to really utilize it all.
Honestly, the "drops to 93% without barely doing anything!!" Sounds perfect in line. As soon as the phone is done charging it will start using the battery again UNTIL it drops to 90% and then it will charge it up again. All the while saying "fully charged" I've read that on several threads. And after the initial 10% it should stabilize. If it doesn't after that, then there is a problem. You said you where 40% without signal? That seems high.
There is a thread about how these, and most other Android based phones on CDMA mobile providers have a bug that default to GSM searching, so while its looking for a signal. Its primarily looking for a GSM tower, and secondarily a CDMA. In the phone dialer, type *#*#4323#*#* (I think, please correct be someone if this isn't it) in there, scroll down and you'll see a drop down menu and it will say CDMA (auto) which is the bug. Press menu, then press "Select Radio Band" it'll FC which is normal. Noe look at the drop down menu. It will say GSM (auto). Change this back to CDMA (auto) and exit.
I know by doing this when I first got my phone that my battery life, while the phone is asleep, where way better!!
UPDATE: ignore most of that, sorry. Forgot you said you where on CM6 which is froyo, you'll need to use CDMA workshop to fix that as the code no longer works.
Hope that at least helped you out. I know the pain of fast battery drainage recently. Right now, after moderate usage and 4hrs off the charger I'm at 75%. that is with 4G on with weak signal. Some texting, and web surfing. And Taptalk this whole post. Lol.

All that previous advice about data usage, tws, or anything related to battery drain while the phone is idle with the screen off is bologna.
Lower the brightness of the screen by about one half of automatic brightness and underclock the cpu to about 245-507.
The phone will still be very usable, while the battery drain while actively using the phone should about half.

Thanks everyone so much, I will try all of these things.
By "kill the data" What do you mean?
When I was using a ROM with Sense installed their was a setting called enable always on mobile data, which basically allowed you to turn 3G and 2G off, when the phone was not on, however I can't find anything like that with this ROM.
So if you could elaborate on how to kill the data apps, that would be great, it sounds like that might be it.
And no when I first flashed CM6 it was the first 2.2 ROM, so I got all of my apps from the market, I didn't restore them from 2.1
And to the person asking if I am running the nightly or RC1, haha I don't know the difference.
I cleared all of my data, and was running a rooted stock rom, then flashed the CM6 "latest ROM" from the ROM page on 7-28, then on 8-7 their was a nightly that was 8-08 and I installed that. The mod version I have in settings is NIGHTLY-N1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6780201&postcount=6
When I typed in *#*#4323#*#* in the dialer, after pushing the last * the (*#*#4323#*#*) that I had just put in would disappear and not take me to the menu, although I do know what your talking about. Can someone confirm if this is the correct code?
Edit, thanks to person above me
its Dial *#*#4636#*#*
when I did that and go to Phone info, and scroll down to set preferred network type it was on CDMA auto (PRL)
However under the IMEI, phone number, current network, is says network type CDMA EvDo rev. A
and 2 lines above that says GSM service: In service
Than on the bottom is says GSM Disconnects: ======DATA======
state: DcActice State connected at 3:11 AM and elapsed 14:12:24 and then is gives me an address, gateway, and DNS code.
This may sounds stupid, but should that be changed to CDMA only, maybe the PRL auto setting is still looking for a GSM network, because it says GSM: in service.
Thats proly not it, just wondering?

it sounds like these 3 don't even need to be running, I can go without the digital clock widget, who know, maybe thats trying to update or somethin, astro is a file manager, Ill switch to another file manager, and voicemail
THATS from the 2.1 ROM !! maybe thats what it is, Because even though I don't have a voicemail every hour I will get a notification saying new voicemail dial *86 and when I would do that It says virgin mobile or somethin and doesn't let me listen.
I am gonna delete astro, digital clock, and the 2.1 voicemail, and reinstall the 2.2 sprint voicemail.apk and report back.

Ok, so I got my new EVO last week. I haven't updated to the new 2.2 (Froyo) yet, though I keep getting the popup saying I should do it. I'll get around to it eventually .. lol. Anyway, my question is ... my battery seems to drain rather quickly throughout the day. I'm not necessarily doing anything spectacular, I have gmail and an exchange (outlook) mail account that are synching .. oh, and the weather widget and bluetooth is always on. I do check my facebook account every once in a while but don't keep it running all the time (at least I don't think it is ... I didn't add the widget, rather just the app to my home screen). I am not putzing with my phone all the time but here it is, almost 2:30 and my battery is at 47% since unplugging it from the charger at 6am. Will updating to 2.2 help with my battery issue? How can I see what is draining my battery?
Yea I'm having the same problem ... IDK I got task killer but its not helping

to check your battery there are apps in the market for that... you can also go to menu --- settings-- about phone---battery---battery use. Also try these tips from this website it has worked wonders for me on my stock rooted Evo http://www.techhackz.com/2010/06/how-to-increase-your-htc-evo-4g-battery.html
You're not doing terrible compared to most users, although I'll bet Bluetooth is taking a significant amount of juice. Froyo isn't a magical battery saver, though it is supposedly more efficient. You may be better of rooting and getting an undervolted ROM in combination with some conservative "Screen off" SetCPU profiles.
Three things: First, you can turn off the OTA notification by going into your settings menu - Software Update and turning off the scheduled check. You'll still be able to check manually whenever you want. Second, turning off "always on mobile data" will save a good amount of battery, but you'll lose Gmail push and some other minor things. Third, think long and hard before you accept that 2.2 OTA update. It can't be rooted yet, you can't go back to 2.1, and we still don't know if/when a root method will be found. If you want Froyo and there's a 0.001% chance you might want to root sometime in the future, you're better off rooting NOW and flashing a ROOTED stock OTA update from the Development section.
Just my thoughts.
Ok, so I downloaded System Panel (the free version for now) from the Market and was able to identify some things that were running that I thought were closed. Not sure what, if any, impact that will have ... time will tell. Here's my next question. After going to Settings/Applications/Running services I'm trying to figure out what some of these things are to determine if I need them running:
Mail - MailService (I'm guessing this is my Gmail?)
Mail - EASDirectpush (I'm guessing this is my Exchange (Outlook)?)
Calendar - ObexService (ummm ... is this my synch'd calendar from Outlook?)
Calendar - ConnectivityService (no idea what this is?)
Touch Input - Touch Input (is it as self explanatory as it sounds?)
HTC DM - HtcDmService (no idea what this is?)
HTC IQAgent - AgentService (no idea what this is?)
com.smithmicro.dm - DMServiceApp (no idea what this is?)

Thats not the functionality you want out of systempanel - what you're refferring to here is essentially using it as a task killer, which you shouldn't be using. Those items will just keep restarting - it's more efficient to just leave them in the background where they're not using cpu or battery.
The main functionality of systempanel lies only in the bought version, I'm afraid. What it does is allow you to set it up to monitor your phone - so you can go back to it a day later and see how your battery, cpu, and device usage were affected over a period of time.
Honestly though, for non-rooted, you're not doing too bad on battery. If you want better, you're probably going to want to root, which will allow you to use custom ROMs and kernels that allow overclocking and underclocking. And also allow you to remove bloatware.
Regardless if your rooted or not, make sure you go into all of the stock apps, like talk, stocks, news, etc, and set them up to never login and never sync. Then install the network app from the market and make sure that you're set to cdma auto prl. this should help.
And note what SilverZero mentioned - CURRENTLY THERE IS NO WAY TO ROOT AFTER THE 2.2 OTA UPGRADE. This really can't be stressed enough. So if you do decide to go through with the OTA, your options will be very limited for any tweaking.
Average apps that run on everyones phone. those apps are running on mine as we speak and I am still getting good battery life. I have been off the charger since 7a.m. and I am at 78% phone calls and text with wifi and 3g running all day. try that link I posted
This may sound like a real stupid noob question but if I root my phone do I have to flash a ROM? Or will the stock ROM (2.1) still be there?

stock rom will be there - you have the option to flash a rom once rooted, but if you want, you can just stop once rooted - some people root just to be able to run titanium backup.
noob. jk ;-)
Hi, i'm going to backpack South East Asie for 6 months, and i think my Desire can be a powerfull tool to use during my trip, but I want to optimize it for the purpose. And I hope you guys can help me with choosing ROM, apps and settings for this purpose.
Optimizing for backpacking means that I won't "call" "sms" "mms" or use "3g network" much or perhaps not at all. What I will need is good batterylife, and apps that can help me on my trip while working offline or with the occasionally use of wifi.
Thank you for reading this. Any help will be most welcome.
Barebone cm7 or variant. Don't even think of staying with sense
Also compass... Documents to go.. bubble... A flash app, some gps and maps app etc

they really need to work out some way of making data international. data connections are just so essential to a smart phone, but its so difficult and costly.
When I travel abroad I do 2 things:
- turn data off
- switch to 2G only (consumes less power, you don't need 3G since you don't have data enabled)
Makes a HUGE difference in battery life. At home I barely make it to 5PM witout charging, while I'm abroad I could go for at least 3 days on a charge!
Of course, other things impact heavily on battery life (e.g. I assume you will be using GPS and the camera).
I would suggest you have a second SD card with a nandroid backup on it, just in case something goes wrong.
Have a nice and safe trip!
get yourself a second battery and one those little solar panel chargers( ebay) , plus where ever you going to, download maps for the area you going to, incase you get lost.
have a nice trip

Use Google maps 5.7, and download all the maps locally while you are on home network. This will help you a lot.
I would also recommend an app, My Tracks. You can track your route and see it on map as a red line. This requires GPS, but is highly accurate and helpful if you are going to explore unknown areas.
If your phone is rooted, download setcpu from xda thread, it is paid app in market but free for xda members. Then set the governer to powersave, and use minimum frequency setting of 400-500 MHz. This will help you save on battery.
Also, whenever you won't need any wifi, GPS, or mobile network, put your phone in airplane mode. This is the best battery saver.

alot of ppl would recommend leedroid.
I personally love stock ROMs and i am on the stock rooted ROM. Just turn on airplane mode (if u need not make calls etc) and use setcpu to reduce CPU clock (i usually put to 7xx mhz or 8xx mhz; can go lower). It lasts about 2 day or more.
For normal usage wif 3G etc, i can last a little more than one day
yes, using setcpu is a good idea. The best ROMs for battery saving are some non-sense ROMs, but don't forget display is the biggest battery consumer

I would assume the gps is usable in airplane mode, but will need more time to pinpoint: as far as I know the gps interrogates agps first to narrow down its general location first?
For your journey...my simple tip...
Airplane mode
Airplane mode
Airplane mode normally turns off GPS too but you can force it on. Normaly I would go with a stock rom as there are less chances for something to go wrong. And you don't want that when you are in the middle of the trip. Also try to mess as little as possible with anything (CPU, etc) to keep yourself out of trouble. You can turn pretty much everything off and get 2-3 days of battery but as it's been said before, the display will be your biggest enemy. If you will be using maps or a different GPS software, caching maps is a very good idea, but keep in mind that you will have the screen on for seeing the map. And that takes you in under one day of phone usage.
Think about using a profesional GPS like Garmin which is great for hiking and keeping your phone closed and with you just for safety.
Wow cant believe this thread as I am going to be doing exactly the same next month and was wondering the same questions.
I am currently running InsertCoint Sense2.1/3.0 Rom and this has a Hibernate function which could be awesome for battery life too.
Obviously dont forget things like Google Translate (for when you have WiFi)and some apps to download Wikipedia pages for some of the places you are visiting. Also sign up for Music Beta so you can take all ur music with you and swap it around when you have WiFi.
The new google maps with perfect for downloading maps but remember the cache lasts 30days so if you are staying somewhere longer you will need to find a wifi and download again (cache settings in maps app).
Hi fellas i recently been testing a few roms and of course everyone out here is complaining about the battery life, almost the 45% of the user have a bad experience with it. and i saw that we were a little bit lost about how to preserve our battery and this below was something that i have test and other people has test and its work for all of them so now im sharing with you this with the community, i have collect some of this solution around some places and now they are here all in one place. hope you like it.
(this can work with any Phone with a rom based on android 4.4+ or lollipop and Remember to check your battery and how much mA has your battery.)
Here we go....
Well i have a I9190 and i been working on the battery life with this phone for almost one year since i bought it, look the first you need to know (and sadly is the worst thing about this phone) is the battery, for some reason the battery gets hot when you play or use Facebook over 3G networks and even when you are not using it, it might for the processor remember our cellphone have a powerful processor dual core 1.7 ghz and it will run ass hell.
From what i have done to get a better battery life with this phone (i love this phone for that reason i still have it), you can try this.
1. Use Greenfy ITS THE ONLY APP IN THE PLAY STORE WHO REALLY DO SOMETHING WITH THE BATTERY LIFE WHY? is hibernate these apps like Facebook and other who runs in background eating your battery, (do not greenfy whatsapp or messegner you may not receive messages, but its work very good for me!
2. the next thing ( as i mention before the mess with 3G network) try to use 2G network you will see a remarkable battery save.
3. you can try a processor manager to control the processor and set it up to run at 1.4 GHz or 1.3 GHz and in that way your processor will not use more power from battery(remember you could experience some lags few times).
4. if you are using this rom Lollipop Rom Port use the power saving mode and disable the CPU Performance to get a better results!
5. Sync Options are pretty good but the sync option its running 24/7 so its mean your cellphone will be transferring data all day, you can turn it off but... if you will have to enable it to sync your contacts info and phone number that your recently save(you can lose data like number is this feature is off and you do not sync your stuff manually, and emails will not reach you till you check the app or turn on the sync option)
6. Wifi, for me wifi is a battery saver, why? i have test my phone over a wifi network all day and i get 19-22 hours that is pretty a lot, so wifi can help you to have better battery life at work or a place where you can get a wifi network.
for me the most comun problem could be the sync option, but as i said before there some things to think about it before turn it off.
if you have any question about my results and research about how to get a better battery results PM or skype!
See ya!
