Unable to sync HTC Desire with Windows 7 64-bit - Desire General

I am using a Win 7, 64 bit. Just bought my Desire.
Unable to sync.
I was using HTC Hero before this, I tried the same method which I sync-ed my Hero but it does not work anymore.
I did download the latest version of HTC Sync but this HTC Sync just can't detech my phone.
Anybody there could help?

Does the computer (rather than the program) first detect the phone?
(D'oh question Is the phone in disk drive or sync mode?
I also have Win 7 64-bit. I've never used HTC Sync but I do regularly connect up to the computer for file transfer.

HTC Sync works fine with W7 x64 (I use it) - the issue I've got is it now syncing with Outlook 2010 x64...I use my other PC with Outlook 2007 for that

Had a similar problem. Installed HTC sync on Win7-64 and it worked but then it stopped working after a while.
In my case I changed the USB port without noticing and constantly got a device recognition error. When I reverted to the initial USB port it just worked well again. It might also be that some device is connected to the same USB root hub and disturbs the connection, so try a different port and install the software again.

Im i the rarity that has Win7 X64 and Outlook 2010 working and working well with HTC Sync??
Try starting fresh and seeing what happens

My Desire is currently syncing with my Windows 7 X64 / Office 2010 32bit laptop without any problem. I'm using it from when office was still in Beta 1...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Error when I try and sync...
I have just got a Desire and when I try and sync (v 3.0.5.422) I get an empty window open with the title 'Error'.
Weird thing is that I had exactly the same thing trying to sync my previous phone, a TouchHD with Windows Mobile 6.5 using ActiveSync.
I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and Office x64 2010.
As I get the same error with both ActiveSync and HTC Sync that tells me thats its a W7 issue but I have no idea what !!!
Has anyone had and more importantly, resolved this ?
Thanks

sync
Use gsyncit 64 bit for outlook 64, it will sync outlook with google, so all my conctacts and calendar, are synced on my Desire

32bit, 64bit
It doesn't matter if you have Windows 7 32bit or 64bit. What is important, is which bit version you have on your Outlook.
Outlook 2010 32bit is supported by HTC Sync v.3.0.5422.
Outlook 2010 64bit is not.
HTC is working on a version that can communicate with Outlook 2010 x64.
The error message you got if you have Outlook 2010 x64 is:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the
messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail
client."
That means: Current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request (It's not 32bit).
So, if you have Windows 7 x64 with Outlook x86, HTC Sync works.
--
That is not all, WinMo has the same problem. Quote from Microsoft technet site:
"Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) synchronization, WMDC does not synchronize with Microsoft Outlook 2010 if you use the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010. In such cases, an error message displays that states that there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging. WMDC synchronizes correctly with the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010. To synchronize a Windows Phone with Outlook 2010 by using Windows Mobile Device Center, uninstall Outlook 2010 64-bit. Then use the original installer that you used to obtain Outlook 2010 64-bit to install Outlook 2010 32-bit. Outlook 2010 32-bit is the default option."

Ah I wonder if that's why I am having problems too with w7 x64 and outlook 2010 x64
2010 x32 worked fine though on w7 x64
is gsyncit free?

The newer HTC Sync still gives a random 'error' when trying to sync contacts to outlook 2010 x64.
gsyncit sync's gmail contacts - but my gmail contacts don't sync from phone -> gmail ? is that because I am doing something wrong?
when I log in to gmail I have no contacts, but my phone has lots... I don't really want to uninstall outlook and reinstall the x32 bit if I can help it... but can't seem to find anyway to sync my contacts on my phone... anyone able to help?

Has the phone and email corruption issues been fixed?
Also does it work on more than one PC eg work and home?
Will continue to use MyPhoneExplorer instead of HTS until these have been sorted.

Mailed HTC asking if HTC Sync will be able to support outlook 2010 x64 eventually and got this back:

In order to sort this problem out you would need to follow these steps:
- Uninstall the HTC Sync and drivers form your PC and then download a new version of HTC Sync from http://www.htc.com/uk/support.aspx
- Before installing HTC Sync on your PC you would need to disconnect from the internet (simply disable the WiFi network or unplug the LAN cable), disable firewall and antivirus. Note: The reason for disconnecting from the internet is to avoid Windows retrieving wrong drivers from internet and not from HTC Sync.
- Install new version of HTC Sync and connect the device to the PC
- While the device is connected go to the status bar on the device (the line on the top of the screen) press and slide it down, then change USB mode to HTC Sync.
* If the HTC Sync still indicates that the device is not connected – try to connect to a different USB port and make sure you are connected directly to the PC, do not use USB hub or any USB extensions.
* Make sure you do not have any other synchronisation software installed on your PC as they might interfere with HTC Sync.
* You would need to be logged in to your PC as administrator.
* Reboot your PC and mobile device and then try to sync again.
* You can also try to synchronize with another computer and see if it is the problem with the PC or the handset.
* If you are using Outlook 2010 64bit it will not synchronise as it is not supported just yet with this version.
With HTC Sync you will be able to synchronise your contacts, calendar, documents, browser bookmarks and multimedia files such as video, music and photos.
If none of these troubleshooting steps resolved the issue, please contact us (use this contact details - http://www.htc.com/uk/CA_Hotline.aspx ) and we will attempt to explore further troubleshooting avenues.

Not sure why they didn't say that the 64bit is not supported yet first - but there we go... hopefully in a few versions time it may be working.
For now though - I think I'll downgrade to 32bit outlook so I can sync.

I've yet to find a free app that Syncs reliably and effectively between Outlook contacts and Google.
See:

In terms of Outlook > Android sync I can recommend MyPhoneExplorer

64bit Outlook 2010 Sync Support
Just wondering if HTC Sync v3.0.5511 still does not support Outlook 2010 64bit? Also there are two versions of HTC Sync at HTC under the Desire. HTC Sync v3.0.5511 and HTC Sync v3.0.5511 (NAM) anyone know what the difference is?
Just flashed DHD on my HD2 and cant get it to sync with 64bit Outlook 2010. Neither HTC Sync nor MyPhoneExplorer 1.8 seem to work. Am I still doing something wrong or is it still incompatible?
If I would not have gotten this Problem I would not have noticed that I installed the 64bit version. I guess I can just revert to 32bit Outlook 2010 somehow. I dont realy remember choosing 64bit during the installation but oh well I guess I am getting old. Or does anyone here knows of a way to make it work?

You have to reinstall all office items to put 32 bit on. Also I think the installer tries to be intelligent

After getting some hours to spend with my new Pro2 i was checking out the options to sync agenda email contacts etc.
However i am a new user to win mobile and i wasnt using outlook before on my laptop. I just installed it, however to sync it i have to enable the options in the mobile device manager that standard comes with the phone.
When i tried to sync my email etc i noticed that outlook is not installed on my pro 2? This is normal? i can get it of the cd aswell? how?
im a total beginner, any help would be apreciated
thanks in advance
Alsa
alright, i feel pretty newbie haha i i figured it out, so forgot about first post
however, i only have an hotmail email account, how do y sinc this with outlook and my pro2?
might not be possible, so maybe some1 can tell me how to sync my contacts to my outlook?
kind regards
Oh, man. I see you're a total newcomer, welcome to the Windows Mobile world! Your phone will look like complicated at first, but after a couple weeks playing with it, you should be able to start harnessing it's power.
Pocket Outlook is integrated on your phone. The contact tab, calendar, tasks, etc IS pocket Outlook itself.
In order to sync your contacts with windows, you need to have the syncing software installed. It's on your phone's CD. If not, then you can get it from Microsoft:
Windows XP and earlier, use Activesync.
Windows Vista, Seven, use Windows Mobile Device Center.
After the syncing software is installed, just plug in your phone, select activesync, and follow the instructions on-screen.
To sync your hotmail account directly to your phone, you can use Windows Live (add it to the program tabs) and then sign-in. If you want it directly in outlook PC, then search for the Outlook Connector.
For hotmail; go to the TF3D--> Settings--> email setup menu and enter your details as prompted; it will automatically create a hotmail connection file for you

Window Mobile Device Center sync issue

I need help, I recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my desktop Pc. I then installed Windows Mobile Device Center and Microsoft Outlook so I can sync/backup my contacts. Well now when I try to sync my phone Windows Mobile Device Center gets an error. I tried to sync it with my laptop that is running Vista Ultimate and i get the same thing. I think I probably need to hard reset my phone but I can't because I don't have a backup of my contacts since I reformatted my desktop pc. Anyone know what the problem could be with my phone that's causing it not to sync? Or what is another useful tool to backup contacts. I have Microsoft My phone and it won't let me backup contacts cuz I already have it set to backup thru Outlook.
Are you running Outlook 2010 on a 64 bit operating system by chance? If so, the Mobile Device Center won't work. I was searching about this all morning.
D.
No i'm running Outlook 2007. I think it has something to do with the phone cuz I'm unable to sync it with Vista or Windows 7
Have you a gmail account?
If so set it up with Exchange to sync your contacts and calendar, then you can reset the phone
i have the exact same problem!
besides that, i see that when i sync, Office 2007 (and WMDC 6.1 on Windows 7) takes the contacts i have in hotmail, and the contacts i previously had on my phone, and adds them all together, and then syncs them to my phone.. this is killing me, everything i sync my phone i have a bunch of unsorted and unwanted email addresses in my "contacts" in the phone.
any solution for this? before i used to sync contacts with no problem, in Office i even had a seperate group for hotmail contacts and just my phone contacts.. now its only 1 group together, any idea how to separete them??

Sync Outlook calendar on 2.1 ROM

Hi,
I'm currently using MCR 3.2.
I must admit : I'm a flash addict.
I tested a lot of ROM. Mainly 2.1.
The only thing that prevent me to switch to 2.1 as daily ROM is because I use HTC Sync to add my work calendar to my Hero. Is there a 2.1 ROM with HTC Sync or another way to do add my Outlook calendar to my hero without merging it to my google one ?
Thx to readind me.
Mik-
Hmmm..........i re-read the last part of your question and deleted my answer.
Exactly the same for me. I am using CKdroid and it is perfect apart from the fact that I cant sync to outlook as there is no HTC sync.
I'm in the same boat - using CKdroid (great ROM) but there's no way to sync to Exchange calendar. I use Gmail (sync's fine) and Google Apps (Activesync) and the 2nd one is not longer possible to sync. Maddening, and counter-intuitive, to remove something that was there in a lower version of the software. Even worse when you think the iPWN gets to sync multiple Gmail/GApps calendars right out of the box..!
Any ideas, anyone?
I wonder if this the same issue I am experiencing.
HTC Sync works well enough to synchronise applications, but contacts only lists "Windows Contacts" - no option for Outlook. Calendar/notes/tasks isn't an option at all.
For the record, I am running VillianROM 1.2.1, an although 2.0 is available as of this morning, nothing in the changelog addresses the problem and I haven't tested this yet. I am running the Outlook 2010 beta but have read about the same problems with Outlook 2007.
htc snyc für 2.01 or 2.1 roms needed
hi to alll!
this is the same problem a face with ALL new roms! there no chance to sync outlook (contacts, calender, notes,...) with htc sync!
htc sync does not recognaice the device (HTC HERO)
i am also lokking for some "easy" solution!
i dont like to sync outlook to gmail and then to htc hero!
thx for advice!

I have had a read through the forums and info about the software and this seems to only cover media, rather than outlook calendar and contacts. Have you tried this?
I have flashed my phone rom with MoDaCo 3.1 (Android 1.5) and HTC Sync still doesn't list Outlook as an option, so I guess this is probably an issue with the HTC Sync software itself.
Update: Android 2.1 does have something to do with the problem I think. I needed to unplug and plug the device into USB a few times before HTC Sync forgot about the limitations of the last ROM and recognised it as a new device.
I'm running villian 2.0.1 and while I sync my outlook through exchange if you use USB to PC there is an option to run HTC sync.
My laptop recognises my phone when i choose HTC sync connection but I can't confirm if outlook sync works that way as i don't use outlook on this laptop.
If i go to sync manager it asks me to set up outlook so it all seems to be communicating fine. Maybe someone who uses outlook and villian 2.0.1 can test it out.

I was having this problem just now on an XP SP3 machine with HTC Sync V3.0.5511. (actually, I've been having the problem for a month or so now!). Froyo 2.2 ROM (Official HTC/Telstra release) on the phone. It was working at first for a few weeks then stopped working for contacts and appointments. I uninstalled and reinstalled the HTC software & drivers a couple of times without joy, and checked and rechecked Outlook 2010 settings and folder locations too (rebooting between each attempt).
What fixed it just now was: on the PC, clicking Start, then "Set Program Access and Defaults", selecting "Custom" then selecting "Outlook" in the "Choose a default email program" section. Restarted HTC Sync and plugged the phone in (with Outlook 2010 not running) and the error message is now gone. Checked my phone calendar for the appointments I'd added in Outlook today and confirmed they had synced to the phone correctly.
I hope this helps someone else. YMMV

Happened to have this issue too (I'm running a HD2 SD Desire HD build though). Searched and this thread came up. I also happen to be running Outlook 2007 & HTC Sync 3.0.5511 as well. Restarted Outlook 2007 & all is good again!

Thanks guys - after months of trying & talking to HTC (who were clueless as to how to help) I've finally got it sorted.
I'm running Win 7, Office 2007 with Sync V 3.0.551.
What fixed it for me was dweebken's advice: Manually set Outlook as the default email program. In Win 7 this means:
Click Start
Click Default Programs
Click "Set program access and computer defaults"
Click the Custom button & hit the arrows to expand the selection
Select Outlook as the default email program
Hit OK.
To be safe I rebooted after this, but I'm not sure if this will be absolutely required, and it's run fine since.

Awesome. Love it whenever problems get solved. It ain't funny not being able to sync one's contacts all of a sudden.... and especially when those contacts run into thousands.
Glad I found this thread. I'm having the same problem, but with the calendar. Worked fine for a month or so, then today, couldn't read the PIM. None of the solutions seem to work for me, though. Windows XP SP3, Outlook 2007, HTC Merge Android 2.2, build 2.01.573.3.
Any other suggestions?

Yes. I had more probs later on that no fiddling would solve, so I called HTC support. They went through all the things I'd already tried, then suggested a 'soft' reset of the phone. To them this meant shutting down the phone and removing the battery from the back. Leave it out of the phone for 10 mins at least (I left it for 30 for good measure!) Reboot the PC too. Then reinserted the battery and started the phone. Once everything settled down on the home screen I tried resynching again and got joy again.
As usual, YMMV

Try going into Internet Explorer. Tools | Options | Programs.
Set the "E-mail" to "Microsoft Office Outlook".
This worked for me. (XP SP3, Office 2003 SP3, HTC Sync 3.0.5579, HTC Sensation).
Not all items are appearing, but we run Novell GroupWise behind Outlook (something that isn't the cleanest).
Cheers,
Mark
In my case when I was on stock ROM the HTCsync just stopped working w/o any reasons with the same message. I could not get it sorted out, and finally I moved to MyPhoneExplorer as a backup tool. Be careful however and do not restore google contacts from tool since it messed up my phone database so badly that I started to have FC (due to NPEs on sqlite level) and had to factory reset... in fact I just jumped into custom ROMs world because of it.

Great!! Setting the OUtlook as default option looks like its working.. Its started syncing and didnt give the error yet. I have a large number of contacts and appointments.. but if its gotten so far..looks like it'll go all the way..
Thank you very much.
Unfortunately with Windows 7 and outlook 2010 there is an issue where it will not let you set outlook as default. It says it will then when you go back in it is back to the default settings. Looked all over to a solution and the only thing that made sense was a conflict between 32 bit and 64 bit architecture.
thanks Jsmac

[Q] HTC Sync Manager and Outlook 2013 64-bit version

Trying to sync Contacts and Calendar with Outlook, but it fails with the following error: Unable to sync. Please reconnect your device. [1016]. I must point out that I can sync anything else like music, videos, pictures and bookmarks, but not contacts and calendar. Sync completes normally if those are not included. Here's the system info:
OS: Win 8 64-bit
HSM version: 2.0.52.0
Outlook version: 2013 64-bit
I'm assuming that the problem is with the running of the 64-bit version of Outlook (the same as in iTunes), although the HTC web site is stating that the 64-bit version of the Outlook is supported.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
The SYNC function doesnt fail on my machine, but I cannot get items to SYNC both ways.
If I add a callender item in Outlook this will SYNC to my HTC, but doesnt work in the other direction.

I was looking for a different fix for a different error but came across to this. Are those items you are adding on your "phone" calendar? When you add or edit a contact or calendar event and task, it has a drop down menu and if it's on "google" or "hotmail/live" or any other calendars they wont sync to your computer. I also have exchange/activesync with work and it is nice having acess to all of the calendars but choosing what you edit at each time is important.

I was having the same issue with my HTC One and had given up trying to get it to work. Then tonight I was dealing with another issue with Outlook and in fixing that suddenly HTC Sync Manager will sync my calendar and contacts with Outlook.
What I did was go to the Outlook.exe and right click, select Properties>Compatibility tab and unchecked "Run this program as an administrator". That fixed my other issue with Outlook and now HTC Sync Manager works fine as well. Hope that helps someone else.
