Newbie to TP2..Asking Some Genral Ques.. - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Well Hello Fellows...
As u ppls can see on my Sig...i just returned my Htc G1 due to some keyboard issue..and i m ready to do some nasty work for my TP2 but i need some answers before doing something with my TP2..
1st-- y we need some custom rom like 6.5.5...while we are already getting everything on the stock rom..and custom roms are same as stock rom some of the difference that the apps tab icons are big(as i am seeing on Custom Rom )<---- Prove me if i m wrong about it
2nd-- i m sooooooo exited to see android on HP2 and i really appreciate the hard work of the developers but i will wait till complete rom comes out ...and my main cause was to buy that machine is to use android on it but i need some user experience.....
3-- i want to know that difference between dual boot ..
3a --- as i saw that a dev created an app that we can directly boot android when we turn on the phone without booting in to WM...
3b---other is that 1st we need to turn on windows mobile then android ...
4--i will ask later when i get my other answers
i want to know which process is best like which process drain minimum battery and run android kinda normal speed...i know that its not that fast but come on ..
these are the main ques that are like dancing all time in my mind..Plz ignore my dictionary and answer my ques
ThankYou..

1. Different ROMs provide different experiences. For instance, the 6.5.x ROMs have a more finger-friendly navigation altogether, with the Windows Start button being at the bottom of the screen instead of the top.
Different ROMs will also give you different benefits. NRGZ ROM comes cooked with a radio app that doesn't need headphones (but of course, if you have a CDMA TP2, you won't have a radio to begin with). Deep Shine ROM makes the most of the Zoom Bar down at the bottom of the screen of your TP2. And Valkyrie's ROMs (the one I use) provides the most stability.
Note though that 6.5.x ROMs tend to be slower than most stock-ROMs.
2. You should just try Android for yourself. In my experience, Android was good. I actually downloaded the Facebook app with it, right after I downloaded the Facebook app for WinMo. So it was funny to see those two updates on my Facebook.
Regardless, sound doesn't work, and Camera doesn't work. When those two functions work, I myself will probably be using Android more than WinMo. I don't care much about BT. Look in the Android section of this sub-forum, find out for yourself.
3. Dual-boot simply allows you to boot one operating system first. So say you didn't want to boot WinMo first, then Android, the dev's app allows your to just boot Android first before WinMo. Simple as that.
Ask anything else, but take a look around first.

thanks buddy for your quick reply
well i have Vodafone Tp2..idk that is Cdma or not right now i using stock rom for windows mobile 6.5.5..that what the device says it have Sense UI i think TF3d 2.5...so i saw not much difference between my stock rom and the custom rom..and for the android ques well i was asking that which way is better ot use android like i think if i boot throught windows mobile then windows mobile will also take some ram else if i directly turn on android then android will use all the ram.and atleast runs better for this direct process and drain less battery....thats what i think and well i watched alot of videos and surfing web for this like 2weeks before asking these ques....
4---well for some games i want to use fpecse emulator...so any way to overclock the tp2..becoz i saw some of the videos of the emulator on Hd2 .. it runs the game pretty smooth...
5--App2SD..well can we use ap2sd on TP2 while using android?? <---Dump ques

4. There isn't a way (yet) to overclock your TP2. Oddly enough, Android on the TP2 is overclocked. But overclocking it via WinMo isn't possible as of current.
Regardless, playing certain games on FPSCE like FF7 works just fine. The more graphically enhanced the game is, the more the phone will lag. Every game I've loaded onto my phone (including the graphically beautiful Call of Duty 2) has worked just fine. Certain games are only in VGA, so download the WVGA fix (it's located in the "Programs to Download for your TP2" thread in the sub-section "Themes and Apps").
5. I wouldn't know about that, but if you want to put programs on your SD card, I believe they have a fix for that in the Android programs already. So, see that thread in "Android Development."

thanks mate for your quick reply .. well what about ram consuming?? speed effects.. direct android boot or android through windmo??
i know that i need to test it my self but also want to know the ppls expreience about android

Current integration of Android with HTC diamond

I am a newbie to WinMo and Android devices.
I know it is possible to run Android on HTC window mobile pre-installed device, with the matter of the non-working camera.
I wanna know actually what is process/method which can makes Android possibly runs on HTC diamond, and does it mean once we have this boot system, we can boot any Android even the latest 2.2 Froyo?
All I want is to get some knowledge which can help me to step into this area, I love software engineering and find that this forum is the one which most positive users come, so hopefully I can start building sth from sketch in here.
Many thanks in advance, and thanks for the patiences and the kindness of knowledge sharing.
Hi, as you said, it is currently possible to boot an Android system from a WinMo one. But they are some issues left, mainly the battery life. Indeed, battery drains pretty fast with Android (and the indicator is not accurate at all).
Concerning Froyo (2.2), I ran many android systems on my Diamond 100, and Eclair versions (2.1) are really very slow, that is why I am currently using a Donut version (1.6), which is pretty fast and stable. So I'm not sure the Diamond will be able to run smoothly Froyo.
Last thing: today, the only way to have a working Android is to boot on WinMo and then launch a program (Haret) which will "kill" WinMo and boot to Android from internal storage (or SD card for other devices). There is currently no way of flashing an Android as you can do with WinMo.
Hope we'll get asap a fully working Android for our WinMo's HTCs

instead i think that froyo will run well...because yesterday i saw some benchmark over the nexus one and the preformance were multiplyied by 2...and i saw the internet browsing benchmark and was the fastest browser i saw
So let's hope you are right about Froyo =)

i hope it too..i love android...i'm waiting for froyo and for a flashable android...i don't like a lot wm
And so do I ^^ I recently tried the Desire with Android 2.1, and I'll certainly buy one when I'll change my Diamond =)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I guess you are the one trying to cook a Sense XDAndroid ?

i was trying but i was having porblem using ubuntu(no ethernet,no wireless and some other things) so when i will resolve those problem i will start
so haret in fact is a simulator?? just to provide a simulated environment to run Android?
If I'm right, Haret isn't a simulator. It is a program which, launched under WinMo, will kill all WinMo processes and boot on internal storage with Android files. Have you ever tried it?
if you want to try it the easy way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5420781#post5420781
there is an cab to download, just install it
than you can run android
bewhare, android uses a huge amount of internetactivity ( maybe it costs money with your telephon provider )
or just for testing remove the sim card...
its the easy way to run android, for multiboot
you need to install a multibootmanager on your phone
for me there are some problems with android on the diamond,
i get sometimes time outs of some programs, but its possible to use it... and test it...
maybe some thing in settings but i tryed it only for some hours ( telephonprovier... i got only 300 minutes of mobile internet connection for free )
but remember, back up your data...

[Q] Some questions about Android on HTC Diamond

Hi!
I've started to use a DIAM100 approx. 1 year ago. I've tried a lot of ROMs with it, and I think that the MEMO ROM provides the most functionalities/services, without too much speed slowdown, so I'm using it for every day usage, but I have to say:
Windows Mobile provides a lot of functionalities, but:
it's a little slow
it's GUI is a little ugly
it has a lot of apps, and I'm happy with most of them, but there are dozens of apps, that aren't usable, or they are very slow, or/and haves ugly GUI.
(If I use internet on my device, or write emails on it, [in brief: if the screen's backlight is on & I touch the screen a lot] the battery drains fast... Is this only my problem? Do I have to buy new batteries?)
(If I use GPS without car recharger, the battery drains fast... Is this only my problem?)
So I would be happy to move to Android (maybe iPhone but it has a lot of limitations... does Android have limitations?). I like my device, and it's a cheap one, so if I don't have to, then I don't want to buy a new one, so I tried a lot of Android builds...
I think that everybody knows what's the problem with them:
The battery life is short with them
Camera isn't working with them
A variety of other problems...
I have read dozens of forums, researched the internet a lot in that topic, but I have some questions:
Where can I follow the development process of the Android porting to HTC?
If the battery draining problem would be solved i would use my current device for every day use with Android. What do you think: Approximately when this can be done?
Is there any current Android build for a DIAM100, that can be used for every day usage? (I want to use mobile internet and push sync, and listen to some music with my headset... If these are working with any build for one day, than it's OK. (If I use Windows Mobile and do these things, than my mobile can hold the battery power only for one day... I have to recharge daily... If I only enable the push sync, and make some calls, than it can hold for ~2 days.))
I'm a programmer, and I would be happy if I could take a part in the porting work... How can I participate? There are some opportuinities that I found, but what do you think, what is the best?
What do you think? Should I wait for the porting to be done, or buy a new, Android based device?
(If the build that meets my requirements, and can run some 3D games too, and can use the G-Sensor, than I would be very happy I have a HTC Hero now for only some days, and I have to say, that it's very cool...)
Thanks for any answer in advance!
Android is like windows mobile, you can customize how you want
The battery is a problem and that's sad,you can use it for a day but you won't have to use wi-fi,3g and bluetooth
This is the biggest project involved in porting android 2.1 and 2.2 on our diamond
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711692 this is for 2.2(froyo)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751 this is for 2.1(eclair)
I personally use froyo

[Q] WMO or Android?

i would like to post this thread to ask all the PRO here,
what would u pick if i ask you to just select one OS for ur Ralph?
WinMo?
Android 2.2?
i am seriously thinking to change it from WinMo.
what do you think?
myself will be switching perm to android on my raph very soon as progress has moved forward alot on it only a couple things like camera and battery life ..but from what i understand they may be close to working and fixed
meego for opengles v2
But seriously android.
but yeah seriously i dont know anyone whos tried android and wants to go back to slow crappy winmo.
I can totally agree on it!
From the early stage of kaiser android development, even with almost nothing working, it was still better then winmo. Now kaiser is working cometely and its way better then winmo.
Im not using my touch pro as a phone right now (primarilly because of battery life), but as soon as thats fixed its donating time again and switching to android on touch pro.
Does anyone know the progress on nand for touch pro (and could the same menu from kaiser be used for it to install?)?
Sent from my Full Android on Vogue using XDA App
As soon as Android is flashable - it's bye-bye WinMo for me...
Once camera is working and better battery management levels are obtainable on my touch pro, i won't be going back. I already love everything about android and the games and apps i've been using.
OH, and my whole data signal just stopping after some time for no reason, even though my sprint APN still shows and is checked.
how about run on system memory
anyone know the diff between running the android from memory or from the system memory, will we gain extra speed if we use the system to run?
and will that damage the winmo OS if so?
thanks in advance.
p.s. the launcher pro is expired and i want to install a new one but it will need me to remove/uninstall the previous one.
i try the "application manager" in "settting" but i can't select the "uninstall"
any expert can teach me how?
million thanks in advance.
It's not Ralph, it's Raph
But seriously, I prefer Android more. I use it daily and it rocks!

Use viruscrazy's kernel regarding the battery management issue.

Yeah, i've been highly following and testing viruscrazy's kernel, and it's awesome compared to stock, but he even mentioned you can't use his stuff along with the newest 2.2 (sept.16 release) since there are lot's of new differences that would cause problems. But until then, his stuff does make a huge difference in properly registering battery level's (within 10% tolerance on my touch pro at least, much better even on other devices.)
Bluetooth also needs some work. I'm not sure the FM radio works in Android.
i'm kinda noobie here..
Are all the application we can use in android can also be use in xdandroids?

Eh, for the most part... Not every app will work guaranteed tho. Just try it out, let us know how it works...
I don't get why you posted this question in this thread tho!
wow, i´m really excited to read this posts! i've had my raph for 2 days now and i am really happy with it already flashed winmo 6.5 but i'm really anxious to try out android
I have a question. I have a brand new never activated or used sealed touch pro that I'm thinking about opening and activating just so I can use android on it. But I wanna know is the phone going to have the same battery over heating and freezing issues if I'm using android as if when wm is used. Is those problems os related of phone hardware related?
if so I rather use android on the touch vogue if I'm going have the same over heating issues on the touch tiamond andtouch pro. Or just use wm on my yreo pro.

Vogue port is basically complete as I understand it. Can't guarantee you won't have issues on your TP. This devices port isn't quite done yet...
the statistical numbers are: winmo:21 vs android 46.
Well, have to say people came to this thread since they like android and use android daily, so the testing result may not be true. It should be more correct by making this survey on the first Fuze discussion site (let Fuze winmo users and android users vote together), just my $.02
For me, 1st Fuze is a phone, dialing effect, talking time and standby time are the most important things to me; 2nd it is an email receiver, web browser; 3rd it is a GPS; 4th, a toy that I can play (games or a brick I can throw )
Android has smoother touch feeling and nicer looking, but for the short battery life and no camera fixed, I will still using my winmo for now.
Windows mobile.
Android is still lacking.. touch screen issues, camera. Our devices dont have a compass. So none of the augmented reality programs will run on our phone.
Ive never been able to get the touch screen to work to my liking. Ive done the touch configuration literally 100s of times. The screen is still off when i touch it. (holding down an icon to move/delete can be very frustrating)
I use Android to play a few media apps (iheartradio) that we just dont have on WM. Other than that, I boot back to WM.

[Q] Which win6.5 rom runs android better

Is one rom preferable to another to make android run faster on the fuze?
Or should you just make sure certain settings are turned off or adjusted?
I appoint you to find that out!
Seriously though, I don't favor any ROM over the other. I have tried stock and custom and find no differences in the stability arena.
On the settings then has anyone experienced better battery life or better anything by turning off or adjusting anything on win6.5? Like if you installed a gamer version of xp it could help games to run better because certain settings and such are turned off or modified. I guess I don't really understand how much of win6.5 is running in the background and if it makes any difference.
That's just it, this isn't a mod nor an app, it's a full fledged OS. So, 0% of winmo runs when you run haret.exe. It's like when you boot into ubuntu (assuming you've done so) from a liveCD and not a VM/virtual machine.
Additionally, there are some settings that CAN be applied before you run haret, that affect Androids' performance because it shares some of those settings. In some cases it may be considered a work around but keep in mind, XDAndroid was never intended to be run ALL of the time.

[Q] Fastest, Battery Lasting ROM?

I use the Rhodium tilt 2 GSM phone and am trying to make my phone better:
#1 I want it to be VERY FAST.
The reason why I want it fast is because I hate the Sense lag and the delay of opening screens. I also am planning to run the Android OS on it soon, so I want it to be able to transition quickly from one to the other.
I have been reading on the Overclocking threads. ( What is the safest overclocking speed by the way?)
#2 I want it to have VERY LONG BATTERY LIFE.
Since I most likely will not be using this as a phone from now on, I want to use it as a mp3 player and for websurfing. I would like to have the ability to view e-mails and use my bluetooth headset.
I am ,however, trying to see if I can use tracfone on it in the future.
Right now in it I have installed Energy Rom. Is there anything faster for GSM Rhodium. I was looking at MaxSense it I liked the Android theme to it but its for CDMA, and I also looked at Titanium but I glanced at it quickly so I didn't really look for the files yet (I don't even know if it's for GSM). I also looked at the Rom lists, I wish they had put the focal point of their roms like NRG did with his. Please place your comments to which you think it would be best for me to use. Thank you all for your help!
If you want speed, go with Titanium. Sure it's ugly-as-sin, but it's fast.
FYI, WinMo performance/speed has no relation to Android. HaRET kicks WinMo out of memory and starts its own boot process... Hence why you can't just simply "return" to WinMo from Android, you have to reboot the phone (soft reset) and have WinMo go thru its boot process again to get going.
I'm using titanium and it's still not ZOMGWTF fast, but it's a lot better than sense
I find it significantly more useful to use though, sense is just a fat slug. I set my windows key to have a drop down menu rather than the start menu screen. Does not interrupt whatever i'm doing as it's just a partial screen overlay, and it's catagorised and sorted better than the full screen window.
titanium is then only used for clock, calendar, text and occasionally contacts. All of which are no faster or easier to use in sense. Do the transition
