Just installed the updated Bing app. New features include GPS directions including spoken navigation. No charge. No money to AT&T, no app to buy. And it works. Here's the caution.
If you use the Windows Media Player for music or other media, the next time you ask the program to update the library, it will find all 60+ spoken phrases added by Bing for navigation, to your music library.
Hopefully this is a bug that will be fixed in the next version, but for now my music library is full of registry-looking items that play things like "exit", "road name changes to", "merge into traffic", "immediately", and so on. Not much entertainment value here.

Yes, that happens a lot, where WMP or the Sense music player index non-music audio files. The best solution I've seen is to find the folder those odd files are in, and use Total Commander or something similar to mark the folders as hidden...they can still be accessed by the app that uses them, but the files shouldn't be indexed by the music player anymore.

on the jas jar., i've hundreds of tunes loaded on a storage card.
i can see them all on the card using file explorer but can only ever play them one at a time?
i can highlight them all but i can't seem to find any option to 'play all' or anything similar?
i can see a repeat and shuffle feature which hints it can be done but how do i get the tunes in to start 'shuffling' ?
please help
thanks in advance
im windows media, do a scan and it'll put all tracks into the library, you can then skip through using the previous and next track buttons
Or get a better media player. I've given up on Windows Media as I think the file handling is horrible (playlists etc.) I have been using TCPMP - The Core Pocket Media Player and I think it's much better. Even though I think people primarily get it for it's video capabilities, I mainly just use it for the audio. It's officially free, but if you like it you can make a donation to them.
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download
I do not have the Jasjar with me but as far as I remember in WM you go to menu choose open file and then the folder and start playing the first tune.
Then it continues playing what ever is in the folder. You can also skip what you don't want to listen

I've got a UK Touch Pro 2 from Orange with the official latest Windows 6.1 (!) ROM on it, and transferred about 10 songs from itunes onto it earlier. So far, so good.
I then decided actually I don't wat those songs, so I managed to delete them from the storage card, but they're all still showing up on the 'Now Playing' list along with little exclamation marks as if to say it (obviously) can't find them any more.
Does anyone know how I can clear this list??
Many thanks!
Hi --
I've been spending a lot (read "too much") time with the TF3D audio app recently, loading lots of music, so I have experience with your issue.
Basically, the Now Playing list will not reset until you "make" a new one, i.e. until you choose to play something else and thus have something else "Now Playing." Strange, but that's how it works...
The easiest way is to go into the Library, and choose one of the following that DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE DELETED SONGS: 1) an album; 2) a playlist; or 3) an artist. Then select any song from that category. The music player should now bring you back to the Music tab home screen, and you'll notice that only the songs from that category will be in Now Playing. When you go back into the Library the deleted song listings should now be gone completely.
Thanks jasmithers, a very useful tip - I shall give it a try!
The Touchflo music appears to be quite worthless. I cannot get the app to identify any artists, albums, genres, etc. I have approx 1400 songs in the sd card and it finds nothing.

If you mean that the tracks don't show up at all, perhaps they are in a DRM format, e.g. iTunes' .aac, that the music player can't read?
If you mean that the tracks show up but the artist/album/genre ID doesn't show, perhaps the data hasn't been entered into the tracks? On your computer, right-click on one of your music files, choose "Properties," and see if it brings up any info. If not, you can manually enter it (although it's a time-intensive process).
The TF3D music player keeps losing the indexed list of songs by artists, albums, genres. I will go to Winmo media player and scan for songs. The TF3D music player uses the scanned list from media player but it seems to lose the list after some action that I have not identified. Should not be this difficult.
I'm looking for a music app that does the following:
plays music from a folder, without having to create a playlist.
resumes playback from the track position on restarts.
supports shuffle all/repeat all tracks from a folder.
I used to use Just Playlists, but after upgrading to the latest OTA and rooting with unrevoked3, it no longer resumes at the track position the app exited from.
Astro beta player spikes CPU usage to over 80% (according to watchdog lite).
Mort player does not resume track position reliably.
Most of the other ones I've tested from the market fail at the resume track position function.
Any other app suggestions?

+1 Though what you describe sounds like some old-school pTunes from the PalmOS days! MixZing is probably the closest you'll get that I know of.
mixzing does not do play from folder (must use playlists), and does not do resume track position on restart.

Guess I'm not sure what you're saying here. I use mixzing and don't use playlists.
i have several folders of music that I play, and do not want them intermixed on playback. Mixzing can play your entire library, by album, by artist, or by playlist. If I only want to play... say... a folder of trance mixes, I must create a playlist to just play that folder.
Mixzing also does not restart the track from the last played position when exiting and then restarting.
Unsure about the resuming of the track, but I use one called Lithium Player. It has some options to allow you to change the color scheme of the widget and allows you to set which folder you want it to play from along with all the other features your looking for I believe. Check it out, might do what your looking for.
The newest mortplayer. Thank me later.

uhm.... reread my first post.
"Mort player does not resume track position reliably."
I already have the latest version of mortplayer, mortplayer for ebooks, and the mortplayer widget installed. While I loved the winmo version of it, the android version lacks features that were present in the winmo version, such as
"resumes playback from the track position on restarts."
you can test this out if you want. Play a track on mortplayer. Then pause it. Reboot your phone or kill the mortplayer process/task. Open mortplayer. It will open to the track you were playing, but will have moved the slider back to 0:00.
Just Playlists did this fine, but now I have lost that functionality after going to froyo and rooting with unrevoked3. I have already emailed the developer, but he could not isolate the issue, so I'm looking for alternatives.
I'd like to see some suggestions too. I was using Mortplayer, but if you leave it paused for too long it forgets your track position and starts it over. Besides this, it also seems to be bugging out my alarm clock periodically.
Stock player does not support BT fwd and rwd buttons? Lame.
Can anyone suggest a music player that supports BT controls, remembers track position, and is just generally a good music player?

I play music by genre when using mixzing. All of my music is properly tagged by genre so if I select the hip hop folder in 'genre' all I have to do is long press hip hop and a menu pops up with 'play' as an option. I select play and it will play all of that particular genre. The paid version of mixzing also lets you edit tags and comes with a 10 band EQ.

I've been looking for the exact same thing. Player Pro is the best I've found so far. The resume is not 100% reliable, but it tends to keep the position after reboots (though I don't really reboot often enough in the middle of podcasts, etc to say this with any authority). Adding a bookmark feature would help. It's very good, folder-wise, I think, though the auto-detecting of folders (there's no manual refresh) can be frustrating when trying to listen to something just downloaded. Also, it's pretty good looking. Definitely shows a lot of promise.

Incorrect. I use MixZing everyday when I walk to work and it certainly does pick up where you left off in the track. I just even check it now - literally holding the phone, clicking the widget, it opened the last song I was listening to and there it is - it's still paused at 3:34 - and I've even rebooted my phone several times today b/c I've been flashing themes.

I'll vouch for that as well.
Also, the developers are quick to respond to questions.
Cubed is the best one I've ever seen. Its free on the market.

Cubed looks nice but I have trouble navigating around, its confusing.
Music Player Pro Haaaaannnndddss down the BEST!!!!
You def.ly should try out Player Pro AKA Music Player pro. This is one of the best music App available... It got all the option you listed plus you can choose 4 different skin for the player including a WMP...
Mixzinger
I just tried several times on Mixzinger and it does not resume playback from where it was left off. I just can't believe that there isn't a music player out there that can pull off this most basic function.
MusicMod is a pretty legit app, its froyo only though

Does anyone else have problems with Bing not recognizing music?
Sent from my T9295 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Occasionally. Typically finds it when I hit it again if not the first though.
It finds me music everytime.. Even if it's not right sometimes but it definitely comes up with some name.. Very rare though that it would give me wrong answer.. I love Bing music and Bing vision.. Also local scout...

Seems to work just as well as Shazaam whenever I've used it.
The only issue i've had is sensativity (sometimes it'll report it can't hear anything where as Shazaam will always record a sample and then try and identify). Also once Bing Music identified a track for me, but gave the album as some random compilation, rather than the artist's actual album.

I love that thing.. because i listen to lot of tracks from dj mixes or some compilation, so i dont know what album it is from, so instead of giving me the compilation name it takes me to the original track and album, very useful if you listen to Remixes or electronic music..
I removed my old Shazam from the 'XBOX section' after testing and seeing bing music..
Does anyone know how to remove songs from your Bing Music list? I have the Zune Pass and when I get my songs on my PC, I would like to remove that song from my Bing Music history.
Thanks
It works but is really slow.

Bing music only searches the Zune catalog that is why some albums are different. It's cause Zune does not have the album, only that compilation.
The reason why services like shaman and sound hound are still going to be massively used is due to the size of their libraries from which they get results. It means you can accurately recognize more tracks with them. Zune is still missing a ton of albums and it's very apparent when you venture outside of the form genres like pop r&b and rock to things like classical music and opera.
In search accuracy > speed, but ideally you want both (that's how google gained prominence).

I never use Bing music myself, Shazam and SoundHound are more effective and both pinned to my homescreen.
Ever since I used Bing music I rarely goto the others. Its identified everything I put it against. Even the telenovela songs

Works fine for me, 2nd SoundHound , 3rd Shazaam
Depends where you are how well it works it seems. But its great to have all those tools in one place for me. All three of the tools on the bing page are very useful to me. Works great for me here in the US, but luckily there is soundhound and shazam as well for those it doesn't work well for.
Hi guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
So i have an Xperia Play(Duh), but i am sick and tired of music saying 'Unknown-Tinie Tempah feat Eric Turner-Written in the Stars' for some tracks. That was just an example of that specific song by the way, they don't all say that...
I want to know if there is a way to manually edit the name and art work of the tracks without the use of a PC, but if necessary, i will use a PC. I've downloaded several different Apps from the app store that are supposed to change the names of them but when i change them and save, it doesn't change anything.
Any suggestions would be appreciated since it's getting on my nerves >.<
Cheers.
I tried a lot of music apps and this is the best music app in the store, it lets you rename tracs, edit tags, add albums, search for lyrucs... etc PlayerPro Music Player
For PC, I use this great software TagScanner to edit music
iTag worked for me.
Doing it via phone is possible as evidenced by other users, but that's too much hassle for me so I always use a PC. PowerAmp can do it, but still I don't find it efficient.
I use AudioShell ID3 Tag Editor. It allows you to edit Track Title, Contributing Artist, Album, Year, Track, and Album Art among many many many many others.
It's a shell extension by the way so you have to right click your music files and edit the tags under AudioShell Tab.
