Hi guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
So i have an Xperia Play(Duh), but i am sick and tired of music saying 'Unknown-Tinie Tempah feat Eric Turner-Written in the Stars' for some tracks. That was just an example of that specific song by the way, they don't all say that...
I want to know if there is a way to manually edit the name and art work of the tracks without the use of a PC, but if necessary, i will use a PC. I've downloaded several different Apps from the app store that are supposed to change the names of them but when i change them and save, it doesn't change anything.
Any suggestions would be appreciated since it's getting on my nerves >.<
Cheers.
I tried a lot of music apps and this is the best music app in the store, it lets you rename tracs, edit tags, add albums, search for lyrucs... etc PlayerPro Music Player
For PC, I use this great software TagScanner to edit music
iTag worked for me.
Doing it via phone is possible as evidenced by other users, but that's too much hassle for me so I always use a PC. PowerAmp can do it, but still I don't find it efficient.
I use AudioShell ID3 Tag Editor. It allows you to edit Track Title, Contributing Artist, Album, Year, Track, and Album Art among many many many many others.
It's a shell extension by the way so you have to right click your music files and edit the tags under AudioShell Tab.

Is there any way that I can keep the HTC Audio Manager from adding files from a specific folder to the music library?
I listen to a lot of spoken word stuff and prefer to use Core Player for that, to keep Audio Manager just for music. But whenever I add the spoken word stuff to my storage card, Audio Manager automatically updates the library with those files.
Any way around this? Appreciate any help...
HI, I found out that the music player also plays my audio notes files (recorded calls) !!!! and no way to exclude folders from scanning mp3 files...
IN the meanwhile, the only way is to play playlists only
There is a setting regarding the device scan path in the registry in HKLM/Software/HTC/AudioManager_Eng/Config.
You could put all your music into \My Documents\My Music and set the device_scan_path_path setting to \My Documents\My Music. That way ringtones and stuff which is also in your My Documents folder wouldn't get scanned. I didn't try it, but you might want to give it a shot. You may have to soft-reset the device after changing the scan path.
Thanks Kork,
But afraid this doesn't work. It seems nobody (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345887&page=3) seems to know what's going on with this.
I previously tried hiding the folder - didn't make a difference.
There surely must be an answer?! Someone who's much cleverer than me - help!
yea, i like my TP2 and all, but the finger friendly audio player is quickly getting on my nerves with its filterless "pull every audio file in existence" search criteria. Not to mention the fact that its throwing songs Every which way because some of them dont have proper embedded information, which, i am not sure how to edit outside of Winamp. Their also doesn't seem to be any way to Remove any files in the playlist. Media player will at least let you do that, problem is it isnt too finger friendly.
As a workaround you can rename all "talk.mp3" to "talk.mpa", then the manager will not find it, but other players will
Totalcommander can rename multiple files in one operation.
teemo, you're a GENIUS! MANY many thanks for this.
(what a stupid flaw in the Audio Manager program though eh!)
Delighted, thanks...
I was just wondering what the best way to edit music files is before adding them to my evo. I have my music perfectly organized in itunes but when I drag and drop in my sd and look through my phone most songs don't have artwork or artists. I tried editing them in windows media player but that didn't work so what's the best program to organize my music.

I use MP3Tag for editing that info ( i do it before importing it to iTunes ), but i would think that should still be intact if you have it in iTunes. If you already have the music on the card, you can try installing mp3tag, right click the folder on the SD Card where you have your music, select "MP3Tag" & it will open all the MP3's in that folder for you to edit the meta data.
doubleTwist. 'Nuff said.
I've always been a proponent of proper ID3 tagging. I use Tag&Rename, which is great for batch operations and will even let you embed album art into each individual file. Develop a system of your own. I have my music folder classified by genre, and then artists within each genre folder, then albums within those. I would suggest at least keeping folders for artists.
Also, I hate iTunes because the one time I actually tried it, it reorganized all my files, copied them, retagged them, and screwed them all up. And because it's Appleware. Do the work and you'll be rewarded.
I've been using iTunes for my main collection, then when I copy stuff onto my SD card, if I care enough at the time (Hey! Sometimes I'm in a hurry!), I'll use dBpoweramp's ID3 editor. Lets me embed album artwork and edit the tags on just about any file type, from MP3 and AAC to FLAC and ALAC.
ive tried doubletwist and i wasnt a huge fan. sorry for such a late response i forgot i made this thread lol im going to try Tag&Rename see how that goes ill reply after. only reason i use itunes is because i used to have an iphone lol and i had spent a while organizing all my music on itunes not realizing it didnt actually change the file and i didnt feel like reorganizing it all over again but now i feel up to it so hopefully this doesnt take forever
Alright, so this has been bothering me first some time now.
When I go to my music app, I've noticed a bunch of my songs being labeled under "Unknown Artists".
Now, it never use to do this so I don't really understand how it happened.
I checked my SD card and everything in Root Explorer to see if there was any data corruption, but everything looks normal.
Has anyone had this problem before? What would you guys recommend? Thanks!
Another weird thing: I try to go to change the tags so I can put in the correct artist, but the Tag already shows the correct artist. The library just displays it as "Unknown Artists"
This has appeared on multiple music apps btw
The tags on the song aren't done correctly. Happens a lot on torrented music.
Download any of the countless album art/ artist finder apps and fix it.

Well, I don't know. The tags USED to work, and app finders are led to believe the tags are correct except in any Music App.
I'm having the same problems. I spent a few hours making sure all the tags were right using media monkey and still, my epic does not pick up the artists. picks up album art, albums, song names just fine. I think it may have something to do with iTunes. I used iTunes and converted all my music to m4a's (iTunes AAC format) and I read somewhere else that the android uses ID3v2 tags? Correct me if I'm wrong but thats the next step for me... converting everything to ID3v2 tags (if they aren't the same that is).
EDIT: Yes. I just converted one artist from .m4a (aac) to a .mp3 using iTunes and that solved it for me; that band now shows up under the Artists and not under Unknown. Hope this helps others.
If you need help I can post more.
More proof that ITunes is the Devil...?
Hello!
Though I have HTC phones for 2 years, I never used them for music play.
I bought the Stereoclip yeaterday and I am ''obliged'' to use the HOX to stream music as my cowon J3 BT volume is too low and crappy.
Now to focus on the question here, is there any way to play songs per folder?
I always divide my songs by genre in folders like ''Trance'' ''Rock'' ''80s''...
Ok the HTC music player can play by genre but unfortunetly my mp3s are nothing but well ID3taged + I don't want to put 500 songs in a genre.
So please how can I play by folder?
Any modified htc music app for that purpose?

I would create your own playlists with the Names of the genres you are using.
You can also add sources from DropBox etc this could be a good idea if you want to keep the space on your device free for apps etc.
To do this, goto your music play, click the "Settings" top right corner and click "Add Music source"
Hope this helps my friend.

I had the same question like you. I Gave up and installed PowerAMP...
i use a program called. music folder player

Forget the dropbox thingy with our very limited 3G network in Lebanon (20 to 100mb per month), or else I would have used Tuneinradio in my car all the time
I think I will install a 3rd party app though I would have preffered to do it with the HTC music app

Okay, heres three options and I can't think of any other way for you to do it, I hope this is helpful.
1 - Obviously you could use another music player, such as WinAmp.
2 - Sort your music into the folders you want, get a file explorer (I Use ESFileExplorer) go on that, navigate to the folder, long press and then click "Music" that folder will then be loaded by itself into the music, Long winded I know but you can still use the stock app.
3 - Create playlists and just name the playlists by the folder.
2 is probably your best bet !
Thanks dude!
I will try playlist to begin with, if it's a pain in the as* I will install a good 3rd party app.
Btw which one is the best (music quality) and has lockscreen controls?

No worries mate
Tbh never used a third party music player, as in my opinion they are never as loud or clear as the stock. Perhaps that could be sorted if you know what to do with an equaliser, but I don't haha.
Couple of Suggestions that I know are good music players:
DoubleTwist - GirlFriend uses this, its free, very smart and sleek looking, and has many functions. Including the lock screen control you asked for. I'd take a look at this.
Player Pro - Looks very capable but never had an experience with it.
Also
WinAmp - Has been around for long time, before android even existed as it was a PC music player, hense the "Win" for "Windows"
I had a good look at PlayerPro, this could be a brilliant option for you, its got everything you've previously mentioned, playing by folder, lock screen controls. etc etc
Hi mate,
here's what I did on my HTC Desire X. You create a folder with a specific name where you put all your music and then in the Music app on HTC Android, you Search for that folder. It then shows up under Albums and you are able to play only the tracks contained in that Album/folder. For the folder names, they have to be somewhat unique, if you have a lot of music on your phone because otherwise it's gonna getm mixed up.
Hope it helps!
Since Sense 4+ we can use folders play in the HTC Music app
I just found an easy solution to the problem.
1. Organize all your songs on your phone under folders as you like
2. Connect your phone to a PC
3. Open Windows Media Player
4. Select all songs from one folder (on the phone) and add to Windows Media Player Playlist
5. Rename Playlist according to your preference
6. Save the playlist
7. Copy the playlist from your music folder on your PC and paste it on your phone in the Music folder
8. The playlist will now be available on your stock music player
All of a sudden I am getting a lot of trouble with the music on my phone. My iTunes library is very organized with all the artist info, album, album art, etc. I tried to use the Kies app to sync my music on my phone, but for some reason some tracks are moved on the my phone with the title being something among the lines of "01 Song One" and all the other song information is unknown. This is the case with maybe about 30 or 40 songs while the rest of my 2000+ song library are fine. I tried syncing with doubleTwist and got the same result. I even tried just moving the songs directly onto my SD Card and I STILL got the same result. Anyone know anything I can do so all my music are transferred to my phone properly? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried editing the properties of the music? To the proper album name and song name you want?
I do this on my computer when my music library gets messed up

Edit it where? When the songs are in my iTunes library it has all the information correct.
You could use mp3tag on your PC to edit the files directly. In my experience, iTunes doesn't always make the changes to metadata to the actual file and when you try to transfer it elsewhere the data is gone. That's actually why I quit using iTunes. But mp3tag should fix those few files no problem.
