Hi all,
Just upgrading to new Imate ROM. Now it seems that Universal has push email can anyone recommend an Exchange SP2 direct push email provider for consumer market? Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Tom C (UK)
The onlyone I know for the moment is 4smartphone.net - if you find any better (means cheaper), let me know!
Some report are saying 4smartphone.net takes 30 seconds to push an email to your device, rather than 5 seconds or less that others are getting via their own exchange servers.
Its worth asking these website exchange account providers what frequency they run the push 'heartbeat' at - you might end up with a big bill if they haven't set the Exchange/firewall to a reasonable rate.
Device SMS Address
I've just signed up for the 4smartphone trial, but Orange are completely unable to tell me what the Device SMS Address should be. They don't have a clue what this is about. I was guessing [email protected], but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what it should be?

If you're using the aku2 rom then you don't need an sms address. The MSFP/Direct Push works via http not sms. Waaaaaay better!
Settings
I think it is that version. I'm using the new ROM version 1.30.68 with Radio version 1.09.00. I can see the push mail icon in Comm Manager, but it's greyed out, so I'm not sure where to go from here. The 4smartphone support pages are not exactly informative.
Can anyone point me to a website about setting this up? My searches are not getting me far.
Thanks.

Got it working
Just need to ignore the instructions on the 4smartphone web page about SMS Device.
From the moment of clicking send on my Desktop to the email arriving in my device inbox the time taken is about 25 secs, which includes gmail forwarding it to the 4smartphone address.
4smartPhone Help!!
Glad to hear that you got the SMS problem sorted which help me out too. I can now sync with contacts but what do I do for the email. Do I have to set an account up on WM5 which I have done but there is no push coming through I have to manually send and receive. Any help much welcome. Thanks
You need to set it up using active sync in WM5. You will need to add a server (secure.4smartphone.net) then your username, password and domain (4smartphone). It will then sync using the GPRS connection.
I've got Outlook desktop, Outlook Web Access (with smartphone) and Outlook on WM5 all synchronizing nicely. My only problem is that I have three pop email account on Outlook desktop, but 4smartphone only seems to work with one.
And just to add the obvious, you need to have email being forward to the address that you got @smartphone.com

4Smartphone.net are US based, where email to SMS is very common. It took the Americans about three years to wake up to the fact that everyone else in the world has to pay for SMS messages to be sent - hence the new push technology from Microsoft.
What they are referring to is a feature known as AUTD (always up to date) which is how Exchange used to do push. A specially created SMS text message would be sent to your phone which told your device that something had changed, and it would then do a sync.
I am told that it worked very well - it is just unfortunate that for everyone outside of the USA the feature would cost many thousands to run for each single user.
Simon.
4smartPhone Help!!
Thanks for your quick reply. I have forwarding set up and all the correct settings for Active Syn in WM5, UserName, Password, Domain and Save password. Under the Options in ActiveSync there now appears and Exchange Server with the following selected Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail, Tasks.
I'm still not sure though what to do with the email all the above are syncing via 3g. In the Messages section do I have to create a new account and if so what are the correct setting for this?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
Tom C.
When it syncs with the Exchange server it automatically goes into the Outlook email inbox on your device. If you've previously been synchronizing with the desktop it wipes out those emails, which is why I'm trying the Pro version of 4smartphone and synchronising all three.
Have you checked if test emails you are sending are reaching the 4smartphone email address? You can do that by logging into the web version of Outlook via the link on their website.
Also the push email icon in Com Manager should now be working and it will say Microsoft DirectPush at the top.
That may not be much help, but I am also completely new to this.
4smartPhone
Once again thanks for the help. Just about got it sorted as I read your reply. The missing link for me is that the you don't have to sent up a seperate email account I was looking for server addresses extra but all those go under ActiveSync. Getting mails fine now but not too sure yet about sending them. Are yours sending fine or is there a delay?
Thanks again, you are still once step ahead of me
I've got Push email working with mail2web.com and have a few questions:
I've gota couple of email addresses that won't forward to my mail2web email account and I don't really want to use mail2web's harvester as that only checks once every hour, so I was wondering whether it's possible to set Outlook on my PC to synce with my mail2web account so that my PC will download emails from my POP accounts, then upload them to my mail2web server, which then pushes the emails to my phone?
Or is there a simpler way to do it?
Also, when I reply to an email that's been pushed the reply address is always my mail2web email address, which is a pain as it confuses people and gets rejected by my email groups. How can I change the default address that my replies go from, or even just change them on each email as I reply?
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.! Cheers.

HI
i m using tmobie mda (usa) with the data plan and with the i can configure my pop3 email account on my phone and make to get the emails automaticaly after certain time
so then why do we need exchange server for
i mean i can be wrong too but if i m wrong can someone tell me the right thing
Thanks
I recommend Mail2Web, the simple setting and most important it is FREE.
After trying various email options with my Desire, using Exchange ActiveSync protocol between Gmail and the standard mail app seems the best of several poor options. It isn't working quite as I expected though. It seems to be similar to IMAP in the way it displays the correct emails in various folders as a copy of what's in gmail on the web. However, it only copies folder contents that I've changed by other means (PC or webmail). If I move, create or delete emails using the mail app, that isn't then reflected in my account in the web.
Is this just the way it is supposed to be or should it work the same as IMAP, and if so, why isn't it? Any suggestions appreciated.

I use exchange with the HTC Mail application with my Google account as well. When I move or delete messages, they get deleted on gmail.com in 2-3 seconds.
Maybe something is wrong with your configuration, you sure you have it on push? Mail app -> Settings -> Send/Receive -> Push

Thanks for replying. I'm glad it works ok for you, as it gives me some hope.
Yes I do have it set to push. I also have the domain set to Google and my username set as my email address, and SSL is on.
Are you in the UK? I am, and my email address is therefore googlemail rather than gmail, so I'm wondering if my login details should be also. I'll give that a go now and see if it makes any difference.
[Edit] I've tried changing the domain of my username to gmail instead of googlemail, but it wouldn't create the account. So I'm stuck with what else to try.
Well somehow it now works fine. The only difference is that my email address (not my username) now has the gmail domain and not googlemail. I had to re-create the account to change the settings, so either there was something wrong that resolved itself when I did that, or the difference in the email address makes a difference.
Hopefully that may help someone else.
Well now it isn't working again. Is nobody else having problems with their Desire and Google Exchange?
Here are my settings, and as I said works perfectly on my unbranded desire.
Email address: *******@gmail.com
Server address: m.google.com
Domain: google.com
username: *******gmail.com
CHECKED - This server requires SSL
In my account sync settings I'm syncing MAIL + Calendar.
Just for the record, I'm not using a task killer, which could possibly interfere?

It gave me an error when I tried to set my username to @gmail - Probably because I'm in the UK where Googlemail is used rather than gmail. Although if you wrote to me using @gmail, I'd still get it. So it's all a bit confusing. Besides, it did all work yesterday. I don't have the domain set the same as you, I just have "google" as I read elsewhere that was correct, even though that alone isn't actually a domain.
I wish I could edit these settings without deleting then re-creating the account, but there doesn't seem to be a way to. I'll do that again though to match your settings, if it lets me.
I'm not using a task killer by the way.
Tried using my Googlemaill account and says it can't do it - bit annoying but I'm happy with the gmail app tbh, just thought I'd try it out!

If you use @gmail as your username, it'll probably 'half' work. Mine is back up but it still isn't working properly. I'm not sure if it's better than using the Google mail app or not now, as I've gone between that and the mail app and K-9 so many times now, I forget what was wrong with each one. LOL. I think one of the major issues with the Gmail app is lack of copy/paste.
I rarely send email, I just have it to receive and then use my PC to get any attachments if needed...I'll stick with it for now!
I've found something similar. If I delete an e-mail on Webmail or IMAP (using Windows Live Mail) it doesn't disappear on the HTC Mail App (using Gmail Exchange ActiveSync). I have to delete it manually again. I've started a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676890
Which is odd as both the native Gmail App and IMAP (using the same HTC Mail App) do.

You can, just go to "More" and then "Settings" in the HTC Mail App or click on Exchange in "Accounts and Sync". You can change it all there, except for the domain (oddly that seems to be only available when you first create the account). Which incidentally, Google say you should leave it blank:

This is the Windows Mobile instructions but Google intend you use this feature primarily on Windows Mobile handhelds.

Hi
I`ve a big problem with HTC-Mail.
I have HTC-Mail configured as follows:
- POP3
- T-Mobile.de settings
- "Delete Mail on Server" = no
HTC-mail delete emails on the server. The option "Delete Mails on Server" is not select. If I will empty the trash then the emails deleted on the server!
The same effect when the option is select. The same effect when the option is selected.
I`ve the problem with Stock- and Custom-ROM (Modaco, Pay`s)
Does anyone have the same problem?
Can anyone help me?
Sorry for my bad english!
Johnny
The problem must be just with pop. IMAP does not seem to suffer from this issue.
I've got pop setup and that doesn't delete mail.
Is there no solution to the problem of pop3?
I need pop not imap

The solution is probably to choose another mail client. I've often heard K9 mail recommended, but since I use Gmail I've not bothered to take a look.
I suspect that the issue you are having with your device is that the "Delete Mails on Server" option is really referring to what the app should do after it has downloaded new emails - not to what you subsequently do with the email.
Regards,
Dave
Afaik, pop has a option to keep mails on server. Imap will keep them there anyways. You should have no probs with that option set.
Edit. Will check when i get home. I could ofc be wrong
Ok:
My settings:
Gmail: pop3/imap forwarding:
Pop download: Keep Gmail's copy in inbox
On the desire the same as yours. It hasn't deleted a single mail since i got my desire.
I think if it's a problem it's a problem with gmail, since i doubt the phone can tell the server what to do.

I have the same problem with HTC's e-mail application.
I am using pop3 and havn't checked the option to delete mail on server but it still does it. Really annoying.
It's almost certainly a problem with the HTC mail app. I have the same issue with a POP account that I have; doesn't seem to make a difference whether the '..mail on server' is on or off.
It also re-downloads emails continously unless they have been deleted from another source (web client or Outlook).
K9 seems to ok but stills needing polishing up. It does have many options that that built in one doesnt' marking emails being one.
Me having this problem with POP too. So I switched to IMAP
I do not have these problems, but if t-mobile does not support IMAP (which is imho better than POP3), try K-9 Mail:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fsck.k9&hl=en
Just saw this thread - on my Incredible with stock Froyo the HTC email application uses POP3 with my email server and has an option in Settings for "Delete emails on server" unchecked most times.
I say most times because it will, at seemingly random times, re-check that option and delete mail directly from the server that I've just viewed and deleted through the phone UI. This option has seemingly self-flipped a few times since I've had Froyo and seems to be a bug.

Hi there,
although i told to check every 15 Minutes the phone doesn´t check for new mail.
Running Android 4.0.2 with the build in Email programm. It is an Imap account.
How can i force my phone to have the Mails checked?
Thanks in advance.
It's IMAP, mail is pushed from the other side.
Powered by Galaxy Nexus™
Thats wrong:
IMAP doesnt mean its push mail (that ist P-IMAP which the original poster didnt mentioned directly)
IMAP means all Mails are on the mail-server and managed there, even folder. THe advantage of imap is that the mails are stored at one place but can be managed from different clients.
That doesn´t solve the problem of not syncing. But perhaps someone else do have an idea? As i have the same problem here.

I just found out that other mailclient (i have tried k9 so far) have the ability to check imap in user defined intervals.
So you have to try another mail client...

IMAP works for me with the built in e-mail client. I have it syncing to my school's outlook express account (.edu address). I have it syncing every 15min and after some messing with the settings/certificates I have sending working as well.
If I had to offer advice I'd say that you should double check your incoming/outgoing server settings and the appropriate certificates/logins are set up.

I gave up on the native email apps a long time ago. I've been using the Gmail app for all my accounts for over 2 years now: http://www.androidcentral.com/using-gmail-your-own-personal-push-mail-server
good luck
BTW, it will probably save you some battery power too.
Hi,
yes the k9 mailer fits my needs. Works fine so far.
Perhaps i´ll try gmail as well.
Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi,
Curious to know if anyone has succesfully got two hotmail accounts working on a stock HOX using the Hotmail account in the new mail account options?
I am not referring to the Exchange or 'Other' options that are available.
Also, does anybody know what the differences are between the available Hotmail option and setting up a manual POP3 account for hotmail (under the 'Other' option)? i.e. does the 'native' hotmail option connect via IMAP or POP3? It doesn't show specific connection details, just that the server is m.hotmail.com.
Thanks.

i don't have any hotmail account then can't say...
But i think so...
You can try 2 as hotmail account or one as hotmail account and another one on exchange account...
I've got two hotmail accounts working fine on my stock HOX, set up using the hotmail account option.
They're both set to smart sync by default, whatever that is?
Sent from my HTC One X
Off-topic: Smart-sync is supposed to sync the mail more often, the more you use the app. So if you don't use the mail-app to much, the time between syncs will be longer. Smart? Yes, does it work? Not idea =S
Cookpass - can you these confirm these are .com hotmail addresses you have currently working?
I am trying to sync a .com and a .co.uk hotmail address using the hotmail option under mail accounts. The .com syncs absolutely fine but the .co.uk does not want to play ball, throwing up an error in the sync setting section of "sync is currently experiencing problems, it will be back shortly". I subsequently deleted all mail accounts and cleared the mail app data/cache & re-added the .co.uk address (in case there was a Windows Live conflict or whatever with the .com address) but having the same result with the sync error.
Sent from my HTC One X
I don't think hotmail.co.uk addresses can connect to m.hotmail.com (default windows live server) therefore the only option is POP3.
Would be helpful if someone could confirm this though either way.

Hotmail.co.uk addresses still not working with the m.hotmail.com server - anybody got this working or has an alternative solution, except using POP3 or forwarding?

With two hotmail accounts in HOX, when viewing a contact, does anyone know how to distinguish from which hotmail accounts it belongs to? When opening up a contact, it will have Microsoft on the link contact symbol, but I cannot find a way to distinguish between the two hotmail accounts I have on my phone. The only work arround I discovered by removing one hotmail account from phonebook view, which leaves me to show only the contacts for the second hotmail account. This is too much fussing around.
