Currently its vanilla with few sense apps. JIT ADW enabled, extremly fast and stable.
i´m up and running for the past 24 hours.
pretty pleased.
It´s kinda hard to measure speed when your last rom was kimera 1.8 @ 710mhz
guess this rom is really good

I think one of the reasons for this 'fragmentation of the rom community' is the sheer number of one hit wonder winzip experts popping up.
There are so many roms which are simply duplicates of other roms that it's hard for actual developers to get the attention their ROM deserves.
Take RaiderX for example.
He's a great developer, and has helped myself and Behnaan out in the past - his ROM gets hardly any attention. Then... someone comes along and re-themes behero, or Villain, and gets twice as many views/comments and probably donations.
For the record; I never would have moved to Villain as a primary if this community had remained as it was in January this year. There were what... 3 ROMs on the go? Maybe 4. That's manageable. It feels very cluttered around here recently.
Please don't take me the wrong way - I love seeing new developers (Robin for example), appear with something fresh.
Now - to the actual ROM.
I will post the ROM on here the day it's ready for public release. The initial reports have been incredibly positive. A lot of people have said it's the fastest ROM they've every used - which of course is astounding feedback.
I can't wait to release it, but as the guys will tell you - there are one or two minor issues I need to iron out first.
I'm not releasing this as an Alpha/Beta/RC - this is going straight to Final, public release.
I'm very proud of it.

Yes for WXML but for vanilla ?
WMXL for sure... It has the regular Vanilla ROM plus some extras! And they both seem just as quick and stable as the other to me.
I'm a Vanilla lover I'm afraid.
I always manage to get rid of a few unnecessary files/folders etc that are present even in the Vanilla releases, which gives me even more "ROM space" to cook my own ROM with as many of my own software choices squeezed in there as possible...

Well, the removal of the Office and RDP icons in the Vanilla ROM were the deciding factor for me. Yeah, the additional software takes up a little space, but they're small and not enough for me to worry about. And since I just started customizing ROMs, I am not too concerned about a MB or two until I really need them back.

Absolutely!
Don't get me wrong, Kypher's done a great job. The added software doesn't have any impact on available Storage space after flashing and there's no reason at all why anyone should choose the "Vanilla" ROM over the "Live" ROM...
...unless you're going to cook your own ROM, and you want to start from square one with less to strip out in the first place.
I'll probably make a load of changes and additions that Kypher has already incorporated into "Live", but I like to start with a clean slate, and having messed around with a lot of ROM's on my previous devices, I'm pretty sure that I know 90% of what I'm going to do before I even start, and assuming I'm right, space is going to be at a premium!
Happy cooking!
It also comes down to how soon you got on board .
I was one of the first to download and install the Vanilla ROM before the WXML release was announced, and for me at this point there is no point in changing (especially after just getting my software how I like it ). Remember there will be most likely several releases of WXML over the next couple of weeks, so my advice is if you're already on Vanilla there is not much reason to move to WXML .10 at the minute .
I've a tytn in Portuguese unlocked, can I install vanilla or wxml?

Me too, and I used it for a grand total of 10 hours before I downloaded WMXL 0.1. And I'm glad I did. I like the software packaged with it, and I like the restored Office and RDP icons. I'll probably stick with this one for a while, but I am glad I went to WMXL from the Vanilla ROM.

I was a little (very) bored so I decided to use google translate to search for ROMs in other launguages and here's a few that looks very promising (websites are in the language they where posted in. Use google translate to translate xD)
Elelinux FroYo, Also a translated version of this but looks more like google translate xD This is in my oppinion THE BEST Cyanogen 6 ROM! It's EXTREMELY smooth and it has some awsome awsome themes. If you then equip it with the Flykernel it gets even smoother and even better in benchmark. Tip: For the original kernel OverclockWidget seems to be working much better than SetCPU
EDIT: I must say it's a tie between the two kernels (elelinux or ninpo´s or however made that kernel for elelinux Froyo im not sure kernel might actually be a little better) I'm getting around 5.2-5.3 MFLOPS with the default kernel (748MHz) and it goes up high sometimes so I'm using that currently
Elelinux Legendary, Translated thread or at least almost I think A legend port so it has some nice features like FriendStream it also looks a little more up to date than other legend ports? It has a very nice theme too!
EDGEHero, Holy ****! Performance orgasm! Hust tried this and I thaught I was in love with Cronos Droid but OMFG am I cheating on it xD Anyways the one thing I notice when I saw this was the posibility for OC up to 844MHz yup 844MHz (yes my phone can take it )! Just read that this also has a theme
FramHero Pretty much a standard ROM but it has a very nice theme
bFROYO A Cyanogon 6 ROM with some nice features and it looks like it has got a REALLY cool theme too
7Hero A Russian ROM (not language wice) mainly made for Russians but it looks like it has some nice add-ons etc.
eVanilla Looks like it's a cyanogen 5.0.8 ROM. Focus in this ROM is clearly at performance
So if you've tried these ROMs what do you think? If you know another undiscovered wonder please let me know!
maybe you can find something, what you didn't see yet on the xda forums

bFroyo - http://hero-roms.blogspot.com/2010/07/bfroyo63-v04.html
I don't know where it came from default language is non-english but as long as you know your way around menus you can switch it to english pretty easily.
great rom
all I found missing (which was a deal breaker) was exchange - it's not listed in accounts to add.
And finally, the very experimental...
[email protected]_2.2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580339&highlight=froyo
It's cool, works well, but for me has three fundamental issues:
- voice call sound quality is terrible, something's wrong there (But dev says it's fine for him). I've tried different radios, I've patched different audio files as per his suggestions, nothing's changed anything. sound in speaker is lacking in treble, and people on other end can't really hear me at all.
- not exchange support (yet)
- doesn't support our favorite apps2sd, doesn't even allow for an ext partition to be on the card. it's very froyo-only in design that way. if the above two things worked then I'd reformat to only fat32 and give it another try, but the voice sound quality bug is a blocker for me. however it's a cool design, very alternative font, sexy looking, nice layout, nice alternative default apps. An interesting rom, fun to play with. if sound quality somehow just "works" for you then it might be a daily user.

Never used the real official 2.1, only team villains version. However I never had any problems with it and for the tasks I do with my phone it was more than enough. Mind though that I do not play games or stuff on my phone. I use it for SMS, Email, calls etc. For that, it worked great. Only reason I switched ROM was to try the various vanilla ROMs and never really found my way back...

That's kinda like me I only flash ROMs that's almost all I use my Hero for xD
Elelinux just updated his FroYo ROM. Translated changelog:
Changelog 2010-08-08
ROM updated. No wipe, simply flash over previous version.
Removed launcher2
Removed Gallery 3D
Added LauncherPro
Added Astro
Added phonebook
Built a new kernel. Counting on better battery time, added conservative as a choice for SetCPU, on demand is still default.
Recommended setting is 352MHz as the lowest if SetCPU is in conservative mode. Otherwise it could sleep too "hard" and have strange colors on wake. Running 352/652MHz with conservative on my Hero.
Minor graphical changes with black status bad and white text. If anyone wants the white I will upload that as well.
Here is an update to remove 3D Gallery.

Still working on a solution to the camera problem.

too bad he removed 3d gallery from his froyo rom instead of fixing it or using the fixed version for froyo that cronos and fusion use.

I have seen a number of threads comparing and analyzing the different ROMs. I have extensively used two of the leading contenders for "best GB ROM" - Deck's GB ROM (1.2 stable released yesterday) and Vaelpak 0.2.1 (released a few days ago). Here is a list of pros and cons that I noticed - I may have missed some so please jump in and add to the list in this thread. Maybe we can put together a comprehensive list of differences (knowing, of course, that it is always a moving target).
Please note that I ran both ROMs with Tiamat 4.0.5-sbc kernel. Results may be different with different kernels.
Also, by no means am I saying that these are the best ROMs out there. These are just the two that I have extensively used and can therefore compare/contrast first hand.
So here goes ...
Deck's GB ROM v1.2
1. Minimalist and lightweight ROM - default Android Launcher.
2. Minimalist themes, no special wallpapers, fonts, icons, etc.
3. GPS works out of the box (was a problem with earlier versions of the ROM).
4. Wifi, BT and 4G work without issues, except ...
5. Wireless tethering works, but sometimes stops playing well with 4G. i.e. you will be tethered, and even with 4G on you will be getting 3G speeds. This is not consistent behavior - sometimes tethering works great with 4G.
6. I have not experienced any wakelock issues.
7. About 10% more battery life with Tiamat kernal than Vaelpak.
8. ROM is very stable - very few app FCs, practically no reboots.
9. Netflix works.
Vaelpak 0.2.1
1. Comes packaged with Go Launcher.
2. More inbuilt themes, wallpapers, fonts, widgets.
3. GPS, Wifi, BT, 4G and tethering work without any issues.
4. Less stable than Deck's ROM (Note - the developer does explicitly state that this is a work-in-progress, so things should improve on this front). There are some random reboots, wakelock issues.
5. Comes packaged with CPU profiles and undervolting scripts. You can underclock/overclock and undervolt without SetCPU or vipermod scripts. A big plus. (Note - it is possible to do all of this on Deck's ROM, just needs a few additional steps by the user).
6. Comes packaged with DT apps2sd. Again, a big convenience removing the need to do this manually.
7. Packaged email app does not support "Select All". Had to point this out since it is a rather big negative for me. (Note - this is in the dev's list of planned enhancements).
8. No packaged FM radio app.
9. Netflix works.
So in essence, as of today the Deck ROM is more stable and "safer", but Vaelpak has enough packed in features to make it quite formidable.
Default launcher in Decks is ADW (free), I believe.

I tried out Vaelpack preview last week and it was really nice but lacks a few things i enjoy. Deck as striped the rom to the point that you have to install a lot more then desired. Both are great roms hand down. I'm just going to wait for VP to get a more stable beta going and once he adds the theme chooser i might just jump ship
i would have to say deck because he updates his thread alot and always adds new things.

Actually Vaelek's GB ROM (Vaelpak4 v0.2) was released on May 31, and v0.2.1 was released June 20. He is also very active on his forum, and maintains a public list of items/fixes that he is currently working on. Very informative, and will give you a great picture of what is coming soon.
Having not used either, but being familiar with both Dev's ROMs, I can say right now Decks, because it's been out longer and had more testing, etc.
I didn't know Vaelpak was putting a GB ROM together, but I promise you, when he get's it finalized, it will be amazing.
His Senseless ROM was a daily driver for me for a long time. Every detail gets paid attention to in his ROMs.

many vpgb .2.1 preview (not even beta yet) users like myself, who read and ask for solutions find them simply and as a result find this current version of the preview to be very stable and very quick, plus it looks great. i can't wait til it actually hits the beta stage because right now it is more final than a lot of final roms i've used.

Vaelpak! Any arguments that the developer hasn't updated or anything like that are mostly incorrect. He just hasn't updated anything on XDA, because he's not on XDA anymore. He runs his own site and his own forum, and he's very active there.
Heck, try them both for a few days and see which YOU like best. They're free.

I used Deck's for a while and later switched to Vaelpak's. I like Vaelpak's much more because of its features and community. Even though it's in its preview stage, it is VERY stable. The community is so responsive and helpful. Another thing is that Deck finished his ROM, Vaelpak started just like 2 months ago and already has a beast of a ROM.
Just to chime in here...
XDA does have a massive user base yes. But with that, comes a massive idiot base, over-inflated egos, and too many people that can't be bothered to read an OP in its entirety.. I do come back to post here when there is something worth posting about. The users at my forum are MUCH more well mannered and helpful overall. If you want to be told to search, RTFM, stop being a noob, read through 300 pages to find the answer, then XDA is the place to be. The main reason there is no post for my GB preview here is because as of right now there is no public source available and I don't need the XDA police breathing down my neck or editing my posts because of it.
On another note, thanks for the props to those that have been giving them to my preview

THIS
Head over to Vaelek's forums if there was doubt in if his work is supported and ongoing. Extremely responsive on his forums, you would be hard pressed to find any lengthy span of days where Vaelek hasn't answered questions or posted fixes to issues brought up in the forums on his site. The guy is machine constantly helping out his user base.
Now for the roms, I actually originally suggested to vaelek using Decks rom as base for his work (but there is no public source). Decks rom is great but the added features and amazing dev support is what keeps me going back to Vaelpak roms.
I think i've posted this in the right section, but if not, my apologies in advance...
One thing that has confused me a bit, is all the added applications (which i never use) that come with the standard stock roms..
i.e: Footprints, Peep, Teeter, Stocks. (as examples).
I have to say i'm a fan of the HTC Sense experience. I've tried a few other custom ROM's, which were great but eventually went back to stock (just because i liked the sense features).
From all the ROM's ive seen and read about, none seem to be a full Sense interface, with minimal apps pre-loaded. Unless i'm having trouble with my reading !
I like the sound of the GB upgrade, but it sounds a bit incomplete. And i'm unsure weather to wait a while to see what's developed from it, or load it.
***** my question is this... *****
Is it possible, or are there plans within the XDA dev community to develop the HTC Desire GB ROM just released, into something polished and more mainstream for general users (like myself). with the minimum required pre-loaded apps for functionality. Then each individual could install apps from market that are important and useful to them. With full HTC sense feature.
Would this also save memory, reducing the number of pre-loaded apps?
Only apps removed, but included in the zip as apk are flashlight and teeter. The rest can be downloaded from the market. I'm not sure I understand completely why do you think this is not a 'complete' Sense experience?

im just guessing at the "not complete sense experience" as its a developer release.
How stable is it, and is it suitable for general consumers to update to?

I flashed it as it came out and for me it is completely stable.
You may a well not bother with the update. A lot of people think that its not worth losing root and not able to get it back. Devs will use it though so expect some cool things to come out soon. NeoPhyte has already released the update into his rom that isn't a hybrid. If you give it a little time you will be able to try the update out without losing root.

Hi dsbnz,
I agree with every word you said.
I also like sense and the being-stock feeling.
Since I did not find anything that suits my needs I created my own Rom. I actually rooted the last official gb Rom with dsixda, removed some bloatware introduced by HTC (eg peep, stock, live wallpapers, some widget I never used, etc) and all applications that can be downloaded from the market (eg maps, gmail, voice search, etc).
I ended up with a very nice, stable and light Rom that fits into the data++ hboot.
You can try to do something similar. It's really not that hard.
In alternative I might share what I've done. If there is some interest I have no problem in posting it here in xda.

I ended up with a very nice, stable and light Rom that fits into the data++ hboot.
You can try to do something similar. It's really not that hard.
In alternative I might share what I've done. If there is some interest I have no problem in posting it here in xda.

I'm quite liking the sound of what youve done with your rom. I'm somewhat minimalistic, and like the bare minimum apps included in an OS.
i'd really like some of the new capabilities of the new GB rom (i.e "reboot" added to power menu, Wifi-N etc). If that rom could be fine tuned to pretty much as youve done with your's i'd install it. Actually until then if you're is stock (2.29?) without the fat. i'd be even happier having that while i wait

Mine is not based on 2.29 but on 3.14 (the last GB release of few days ago), so it already includes the capabilities you are talking about.
I'll find a way to upload it here (any suggestion?).
I just didn't think it could catch some interest, since all other roms here are full of additional stuff/features/mods while I kept mine very simple and as close as possible to a bloatware-free stock.
I love Sense. Trouble is with the new official GingerBread its got old Sense. That's why I came here and got a ROM with Sense 2.1. I'm going to remove some of the stuff I don't want with ADB and then, happy days a ROM to my liking

im just guessing at the "not complete sense experience" as its a developer release.
How stable is it, and is it suitable for general consumers to update to?

That rant is covering their backs against horde of buffalos, the same one who scream this is their last HTC device. Good riddance
First line - this is for experienced users. Or they have massively misunderstood the term 'developer'. This is THE update. Stable and official. No beta as they seem to sprout all over this place. Lol beta
minimalistic ROM
Hi again,
Given your interest in the ROM I created this thread.

I am currently uploading the ROM. The link will be online shortly.
Edit: link is online. ;-)

Fantastic thanks!. before i get flashing is there any specific procedure to upgrading with this rom you've provided? Also, from what i've read (if ive read it correctly), upgrading to the new rom from HTC removes any chance of downgrading to 2.29/rooting etc. same case with your rom?
Cheers, and thanks to everyone who's commented all great feedback.
Glad that it helped...
If you have questions about the ROM can you please post them in the Rom thread? So that I don't have to keep track of both threads.
In this way also people reading the ROM thread can benefit.

cool thanks again, will redirect to the rom thread with questions
Hello everyone,
This is a pure-AOSP ROM with very little CM-style modifications. These modifications are designed to address all Galaxy Nexus users. I have modified Android only to improve the usability with minimum impact on the stock JB look. Please note that this ROM is a beta and I hadn't had a chance to test it, so you are my testers. When testers are happy, I will erase the word beta.

Why would you call it MONSTER AOSP if the ROM is close to stock with very minimal modifications?

It's a work in progress. It's not a final ROM. If you don't like the ROM... then move onto the next thread, not bash the thread.

Pretty much what I said above.... if u dont like the ROM, move on, dont bash the thread.
@OP: Thanks for the ROM. Nice to see new developers on the scene, best of luck! Ignore these people who are causing negativity, looking forward to what you bring to the scene.
But generally speaking.. people need to stop going into dev's threads and bashing their ROM which is obviously a thing they do as a hobby and doesn't charge their users. Bashing someone's ROM when you haven't even tried it causes ROM developers to not make ROMs.

Thank you for the kind words. You are completely right.
@JosepiOT I will look into your problem. It seems to work fine, maybe a location error? I will provide an alternative link.

loll... i`m not bashing anything :silly:
sorry for whatever
bye and good luck with your hobby
guys please install what you want and let devs cook their rooms. It is a free world but nobody wants to know about what you install and do not install.
@tommrazek01
thanks for your rom. pls provide screenshoots...thnx again.
thank you very much. I will provide screenshots as soon as i can get to my Galaxy nexus.
Don't give in to the hate. I've done two Roms, a theme, and an app and I'm surprised at how nasty people can be over FREE software!
Anyway... I recommend you add Trackball Alert compatibility from lilHermit and AppWidgetPicker. Both are really useful and blend very well with AOSP.
Keep up the good work and keep having fun.
Thanks a lot. Can anyone give feedback please? I mean, you kind people are my testers. I will be able to test it after tomorrow at best...
