I want to use paul's rom or Evil's rom , but I wont to use app2sd
how can i modify the rom zip file?
thank you.
You don't need to. Just don't partition the SD card and the apps will be stored in main memory.

Hello guys, i have a question, some may call it noob some may thought it themselves. i am currently rooted and using mcr3.1 without problems at all but i don't have the apps2sd.
i want to try it and i baked a new rom from the kitchen with the a2sd+ option integrated but i don't want to mess up my current sdcard and want to use another one i have. can i do that ???
as i see it i must do the following:
1) while my CurrentCard is inserted make a nandroid from the fake-flash recovery
2) turn off the phone and insert the new card
3) put the update.zip (for fake-flash) and the baked rom onto the sd card
4) now go into recovery (fake-flash) and choose to install new rom
will this work ok ?????
in addition as i see on my SDCARD some applications like titanium backup or astro or htc mail, rom manager, wifi tether etc have some files on it into their respective folders. will i be ok if i copy-paste them after the procedure into their folders in the fat partition???? or the a2sd+ uses some other m,ethod for the apps to store their info ????
THANKS for all the help
That should be fine...just don't forget to partition the new sd card for a2sd
do i need to make it with gparted or the rom makes it by default ???
The recovery image has it all. Look!
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
yeah i haven't taken a look into the recovery before...is there any update.zip that adds the a2sd+ to my current configuration ????
No because it's already part of the rom. Your sd just needs partitioning correctly.
Back up your sd card, boot into recovery. Go to partition menu and partition sd card.
Mine is swap 0, ext 512, fat remaining space. Then you can copy your sd backup back to the fat32 partition.
That's it all apps will install to sd card.
If I want to use the build-in A2SD in 2.2 rom, do I have to format my SD card in a special way (in order to make EXT partition)?
If not, how much space in the SD will be avaliable for applications?
And when I will download from the market, will I be able to choose where to install the application (Internal of SD)?
The built in a2sd is rubbish.
90% of apps don't support moving to sdcard.
Those that do still store space on your internal memory.
But if that sounds good for you then no, you do not need to prepare anything.
You will not get to choose where, but if you go to settings -> applications, for the apps that support you there is the option to move to sd card.
The usual amount of space will be available, depends on whether or not you wipe data/cache etc. Memory will go down as you install apps.
Hope this helps.
so what should I do in order it not be rubbish?

IMHO, it isn't that bad! I've used the ModInstallLocation app to set my install location to SD card and the majority of apps have played nice and gone to the SD card automatically. I *believe* that the only ones which haven't are those that have specifically disallowed the privilege by the application author.

I think there are mixed views about which one is 'better'.
I've been using A2SD+ on 2.1 ROMS; just upgraded to 2.2 and still am using it. Many say that it ultimately saves more space than the built in Froyo version of it.
I had the same question the first time I was about to root and flash a 2.2 ROM (am a noob).
From the (huge) info on the site, it appears that you really don't have to worry about preparing your SD card before you root.
You DO have to prepare it before flashing a custom Froyo ROM (with A2SD+) AFTER you root it successfully (unrEVOked3 is just great).
I used ROM Manager to partition:
swap 0, ext3 512 partition and fat32 for the rest
Gurus, correct me if I am wrong
Legacy ADSD+ should save more space than Froyo native A2SD since it moves the Dalvik cache to SD card.
I would imagine that there is little to no difference between regular legacy A2SD and Froyo native A2SD in terms of internal storage savings, though I could certainly be wrong on this count!

Dave

Generally, you don't need to have an EXT partition on your SD card prior to flashing a ROM with A2SD+, because if the EXT partition doesn't exist the scripts to move the apps/cache to the EXT partition do not run. So, you should be able to flash a new ROM with A2SD+, and if subsequently you want to enable A2SD+ you simply need to partition your SD card and it will move everything over on the next boot.

Dave
Understood. Thanks, Dave!
If I install a ROM ex. MIUI 1.5.6 X-part, what changes does it makes on my SD card? Will there be problems adding another rom after that? Do I need to reformat / partition on my SD card if I should go to a different ROM with a2sd+?
Another question:
If I made a backup of everything in recovery and want to restore do I have to wipe everything before restoration?
The rom won't make any changes to your sd card. however you wil need to format the card for the a2sd because you will need to create an ext3/ext4 partition(use rom manager or some kind of partitioning tool for pc eg: MiniTool Partition Magic Home Edition (free). no problems should be encountered if you want to add other ROM's after that as long as you wipe before, usually Chefs tell you what to do before flashing their rom.
For the 2nd question, no, you dont need to format if you want to restore a backed up rom

Hi,
you can follow this link: http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/26/ho...om-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/
and build your ROM alone with kitchen and the a2sd script is implemented...
I am using that way, built ROM from stock on my SuSE, while building added scripts for Superuser, Busybox, A2SD, removed boot sound, zipaligned the aps and thats it. Later you need to prepare your SD card, you need 1st partition FAT32, 2nd partition EXT3 and you are done. I am using 700MB EXT3 for apps and believe me it is enough. Also I am using the stock SD card and there is no lag (read speed 20+MBps / write speed 2.5MBps ) there is nothing so much to write to the SD so...
just a hint, if you plan to change you SD often better search for a way to add link2sd not apps2sd!
I hope I helped
Hi Guys,
i want to know how its possibly that we can use darktremors A2SD Script with Stock Kernel and Stock ROM.
I tryed the app "Link2SD" with n 8GB EXT3 Partition mounted as Primary..
But after a restart all the User-Apps are deleted
Have anyone of you an idea wich is the best app?
Important for me is the "batch" function that allows all the apps i install automatically will move to the sd-ext partition.
thanks for your help
