I have upgraded to WM6 using the AT&T official release. WM5 used to maintain my ActiveSync connection when I turned the screen off (by momentarily depressing the power button - sleep mode). Now WM6 drops the USB connection. I performed a hard reset - no change. I reinstalled WM6 - no change.
It appears that for applications, the 'sleep mode' is acting more like a power-down mode (just doesn't reboot when you power up again).
>>>Follow-up - I tested the bluetooth connectivity and it appears to stay up during sleep mode. So it looks like just USB is affected when going to sleep.
>>>Follow-up #2 - Media Player continues to play (and the speaker is active) when in sleep.
This is normal behavior. Have you experienced otherwise in the past?
Probably normal as when its plugged in via usb its powered and doesn't need to go into sleep mode.
Did you guys not even read his original post at all? He had it working with WM5 and now it's not. Which would mean it is NOT normal. Not to mention you can still use sleep mode while having it plugged into a USB port so I don't know why the last poster would say it doesn't need sleep mode. Of course it doesn't need sleep mode. It's being charged. That doesnt mean he wouldnt still want the screen to turn off while it's plugged in. I charge my phone right next to my bed if I had that damn bright screen on while I tried to sleep I'd go crazy. Point being neither of those posts were worth a damn. sheesh.
Edit: For the record mine disconnects activesync when in sleep mode as well. I don't remember if it did so in WM5 or not but I'm pretty sure it did cause I recall being a bit surprised when it disconnected when I hit the power button. Now we just need some real help with real answers.

And your post really helped to solve this "problem", didn't it.
I'm sure he just didn't want a program to turn his screen off, as anybody with half a brain could find a freeware cab to do that. How about searching google for screen off pocket pc freeware
Call down surret... calm down. No need to take it so personal.
Just because it works in WM5 does not mean it will act the same in WM6. I was not giving a definite answer about sleep mode but maybe an idea as to why.
When I plug my phone into the wall it still charges fine in sleep mode. When I plug my phone into my computer it charges in sleep mode but the usb does not stay connected. I was suggesting that since sleep mode is to save the battery life that when your connected the battery is not being used and hence not really required. Also in sleep mode in order to save battery it needs to turn off as much as possible. It looks like the USB connection is one of them.
There are other options like a screen toggle as per the post above and there is also a setting that you can use to turn off the backlite when the device is plugged in and not put it into sleep mode. I think thats in the power saver settings somewhere.
I do not know of a registry hack or anything to make it work the way you want but I am letting you know that it seems like thats the way it works on WM6.
Thanks to all who responded. I'm relieved to learn that this is normal for WM6.
Since WM5 allowed me to sleep while charging/syncing and WM6 didn't, I was afraid that my 8525 was developing problems.
I will simply have to change my behavior to accomodate WM6. After all, if all WM6 did was add support for SDHC cards, it would justify the inconvienence.
One thing to note too that I noticed...
Even though its in sleep mode and not connected (even though its plugged in) I notice my phone still wakes up and does a sync every now and then. Might want to check that. Maybe it still sync's ona timed interval but doesn't stay connected.

That was one of the annoying things - when put to sleep when it is in the cradle, the 8525 would wake up after a short period, reconnect, and resync.
So even when you put it to sleep it wouldn't stay asleep (if connected to a powered on PC). If the PC is powered off the 8525 stays asleep until you manually wake it up or a event occurs (incomming call, reminder, scheduled backup, etc).
Folks,
Does anyone know how to disable WinMo's Autoclose feature on the Rhodium? It seems as soon as I have a large number of programs running on Stock Tmobile WinMo 6.1 it starts to automatically close down some, which is a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
This can be done with Advanced Config tool. Under "HTC Task Manager" you can disable "Autokill".
However, I have no doubts that this is a bad idea. Your programs are closing because they're using up your available RAM. So if you disable autokill, your device will most likely just lock up and you'll have to soft reset.
Thank you for the note, has anyone tried to disable this function, will it really freeze the device under high usage?
I tried to open as many application as possible and got up to around 80% CPU usage before the application started closing automatically, but I feel I can squeeze more out of the device by disable AutoKill.
Any thoughts?

Haha, seems like you might want to talk with this guy.
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
My Hermes (Dopod 838 pro) running official WM6 ROM
My Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) running stock WM6.1 ROM (Version 1.9)
It's a big problem, I can't keep my Twitter, downloader, and Messenger app to run at the background..
I have disabled the "auto kill" in HTC Task Manager with "Andvanced Config"..
I also have change the "memory thereshold" to 0 MB, then tried 1 MB, but the problem still there..
And this guy.. (me..) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575663
Yeah, sucks. I dunno if the Rhodium sudddenly launches a bunch of programs every X minutes? Where would that be besides in the notifications? I have lots of calendar entries, so kinda difficulty to look through that on my Tilt 2.
I can get mine down to 23-24 processes (minus a few standard things, but plus arielbattery, s2u2, a couple misc things) so one would THINK that gives you 8 or so free slots so if you're just running 2-3 more things no problem but that's NOT the case.. It seems like no matter what if you're running a few 'large' things, something goes.
In my case, I run Flexmail from 0800 to 23:30 and if I run 1-2 more things, Flexmail exits. Very annoying. I once wrote a Mortscript to detect this and re-run Flexmail, but guess what happens... Flexmail runs, one of the other programs exit. Sigh.
At one point I disabled autokill, reduced some memory cache stuff, etc... Nothing helps unless I exit several of my background apps and free up more slots.
Anyone know of anything that could monitor background processes, like battlog does battery info? Like it'd be interesting to see a snapshot every 1s of number of processes running or something.. be interesting to see if it's 22,22,22,30,22,22 all of a sudden.
BTW, I don't run TF3D, I run my Today screen stuff I did in 6.1.. PocketPlus, PhoneAlarm, GPSToday, PocketWeather, TodayAgenda..
I never had these problems on my Tilt, as I describe in my thread above.. With the same number of processes at 'idle', but with only 25-40M of ram free vs my Tilt 2 at 70-85M free my Tilt 2 drops programs constantly.
If I didn't see Flexmail exit (not *crash*) I'd think programs are crashing and there's some serious OS bug or something but Flexmail clearly cleanly exits..
Very effing annoying, I'm hoping someone can figure this out at some point. Perhaps I should try a cooked ROM, although otherwise I have no problems with my current ROM.
I don't know what the problem with my phone is but it will open like Sprint Navigation and Qik etc all in the back ground even when I didn't open them.
I even turned all the sync settings off, and everything and its still doing it.
I even use Application Killer and kill them but it will just re-open by itself.
If anyone knows what to do that'd be very helpful. Because I know my battery life would be good if it would just stop doing that.
I think the longest I've lasted on a full charge is like 6 hours. And that was basically just leaving it idle and texting some.
Hi Guys.
Noticed after my update (using about phone, on time/wake time aswell as *#*#4636#*#* Battery usage, partial wake screen), The new facebook app appears to be keeping my phone awake.
I disabled all facebook syncing, and rebooted the phone, and it sleeps fine,
went into the facebook app, refreshed (which worked fine), and went back to home... and now then the phone stayed awake.
Currently I'm going through the process of seeing if the facebook 'syncing' (without actually opening the facebook for HTC app) to see if that does the same thing.
I just thought I'd come here to see if anyone else is having the same issue?
I think I have the same issue. Facebook is suddenly the number one 'partial wake usage'..
ditto same here, i got no friends so gonna disable it.
i have notice if you load the app and go into settings you can turn the refresh to never, seems to work for me and then just manual refresh whenever i want to use it.
i do get an app/item called "college" mysteriously switching on?
I've found so far that in "Accounts and sync", Facebook sync causes the same issue. Facebook for HTC however does not.
My girlfriend just got the facebook update on her Legend, which is still running 2.1
I will keep an eye on it to see if it has the same issue - It's starting to look like a Facebook issue, not a HTC Froyo update issue. Which is a *****, because i use it a lot and the new update is slick.
EDIT: not sure on the 'college' thing, haven't seen that myself.
somehow i'm not seeing this issue, will have to investigate further when i get home from work
Well , if someone like me decides to go back to 1.2, it's easy. Just uninstall the Facebook app and will uninstall the update only. 1.2 is system app.
This is well documents guys here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/apps/application.php?id=74769995908&ref=ts, so it's something that there sure to address as my phone went from fully charged this morning to empty in the space of 6 hrs. Normally it lasts me the full day.
I did wonder where the hell all my battery went! Removed. It was still rubbish as it just took you to the site for everything.
The girlfriends Legend doesn't seem to suffer the same problems.
(though 'facebook for HTC sense' syncing seems to be causing her phone to stay awake.)
I don't understand why so many developers are falling into this wake-lock issue? It's becoming a serious problem for Android.
SORRY

Well google have now acknowledged the problem and say they are in touch with HTC.
So I suppose we now have to sit and wait.

Have you got a link to this?
Mine seems like it sleeps, but still the wake time is huge.
Uptime: 33:59:30
Awake time: 23:57:55
Wth, only 10 hours sleep in 33 hours :/
EDIT: yes, at partial wake Facebook has huge line, and android system and dialer a really tiny ones.
Disabled "Facebook for HTC" sync from accounts and sync, rebooting, and will see how it goes.

I also tried this, if it seems to work for you try opening the facebook app (without sync enabled) and see what happens. (Just the app, even with sync and notifications off, is enough to keep my phone awake)
Yea I'm having the same issue !! where is the link to Google's acknowledgement?
I got this issue as well !! Bloody Facebook
I always set the Refresh to NEVER and not using notification.
Where is the Google acknowledgement of this issue?
Hope this will be fixed soon.
In the meantime, reboot the phone and dont use Facebook app!

Sorry.
I posted this into the wrong thread. The fix was about the Gmail sybc problem.
Sorry
Yup this is a problem with the facebook 1.3 update.
http://geekfor.me/news/facebook-1-3-wakelock/
I uninstalled the update and went back to 1.2 for now.
I don't think its just Froyo either.... i'm on 2.1 and the new 1.3 facebook update.
My battery seems to be taking a pasting with CPU time very high for the facebook service.
Same problem here. "Time spent without sleeping: 100%" and Facebook app in "Partial wake usage" had a bar the size of the great wall of china. Uninstalled, the touch site is better anyway.
Hi, I need a bit of help please with my P6 still on 4.2.2 my issue is a massive drain on battery life apparently being caused by Android OS using up around 70%. I have only wifi and mobile internet running with location etc turned off. One thing that I'm unable to control the background apps manager setting properly in that the only app I want to keep running is WhatsApp so I set the All button to off. However in next to no time I find it has switched itself back to on.
I've been through manage apps and turned off or disabled pretty well all that I dare.
Many thanks in advance.
Oh, just to add a little more information if I try to access Start up manager I get a "Power manager has stopped working" message.
Is there some way I could reinstall or repair the Power manager?
Unfortunately WhatsApp seems to override sleep on a lot of systems so you may be in a situation where it is constantly waking itself up.
Try just letting it run i.e don't try to stop it in start manager.
Thanks for that, the problem doesn't appear to be with WhatsApp because when I look at the battery consumption tab the biggest user by far, and mean at up to 70% is the android OS.
I only mention start up manager as it's one of the items controlled through power manager. My real issue is the background apps manager self enabling all background apps.
I'm really trying to avoid doing a factory reset if possible.
