Guys, this has never been a problem before because i use to turn my phone off at night, but lately I have left it on
I remember at the start I had about 80mb of phone memory left, i have installed no apps or anything and this morning i got a memory low notification stating i only have 12mb of memory.
I turned the phone off and on again and i'm back to 80mb.
Is this a hardware or software issue? can it be fixed?
Try installing autokiller. Its the featured app on the xda homepage atm
but im not talking about ram, im talking about physical phone memory
Oh you mean Rom?
Have you installed A2SD?

no i havent but youre missing the point
the memory goes down rapidly even if youre doing nothing if you dont turn the phone off
That could be a software bug. maybe someone else could help
Not sure but this could be down to the cache and similar stuff. Remember that the system manages automatically space and uses it for the cache when there is enough. When the free space goes under some limit the system starts clearing cache and the same happens when you reboot the phone.
I guess this could be similar to swap files on windows where the system stores recently 'used' stuff to the hard disk in order to recall them in a faster way than reloading from scratch.
If you have some problems you can always use quick cache cleaner or similar stuff, but I've never experienced problems: as soon as the system needed space it cleared the internet cache and other caches as well.

i know what you mean and i agree about the cache
i just find it ridiculous that after 3 days the system creates 70mb of cache on the phone memory? that's ridiculous
although powering off the phone did take longer than usual so something was being cleared..
i think its the backup function which do that.... in settings confidentiality i think
(im french not sure of the settings terms)

Has anyone else noticed that the memory in WM6 seems to drain as time goes on? I have tried closing all open apps through the task manager (Dash), but at the end of the day there only seems to be about 3k max of memory left? Although WM6 seems to handle programs well at low memory, I would like to see what's causing this.
Any ideas?
I've noticed after a while it fails to display the home screen. Might be related to memory so I'll check how much is free next time that happens.
mine has never failed to show the homescreen, but i use the default wm theme. i have read about others that have had the disappearing homescreen when using the windows live theme
Yeah. The leak is awful. I have deleted all kinds of stuff, but even with Oxios Close, I can't get above 10000 after half a day, and have to restart.
Might be similar to what Vista does... uses up all available memory for caching... and if more is needed, it just flushes some of the cache to fit it in.
Not a bad idea, since it speeds up frequently used programs.
i know i sound like a noob this is the first time i ever ask something like this but where did you all fine ur wm6 for ur dash thanks!!

I have also noticed this leak problem. It gets down to 4MB memory and quiting all problems using spb pocket plus does not clear any memory. Only a soft reset fixes it.
I can see how it's a good idea in terms of caching but that only seems to work until the memory gets down to 4M then any new apps running become painfully slow and sometimes the phone appears to have hung completely.
closing all apps in WM5 used to free back up to ~24MB

I don't have any of the problems with painfully slow apps, even when there is no free memory. I'm pretty sure it's not a memory leak, and is just caching.
I get the same thing...
I have made it a habbit to hit back after every thing I do, it helps.
Also when you go to task manager and you want to stop programs stop them all individually then click stop all, that seems to help me a bit.
I used to get 3k free by doing stop all now i get over 9k most of the time when i stop em one by one then doing stop all.
We need to plug this leak up!!
I have the same problem with the "official" wm6 from T-Mobile. They didn't fix this issue with the official version.
leak on rogers rom
Easiest said is Ditto with the rogers wm6 rom.
I've been trying to keep some space in /data by using A2SD and by symlinking some of the larger entries in /data/data to somewhere in the ext4 partition.
But do I need to keep a fair bit of space, or can I run it fairly close to the wire? Will it only cause problems if I actually run out?
James
As far as I know it won't cause any troubles. However, whenever I ran out of space on a stock rom, I noticed I couldn't sign in with google talk. When I deleted an app to free up some space, I could login again. That's the only thing I noticed that happened whenever your /data gets full.
There isn't really a big issue if you are worrying about it breaking your phone. I guess the worst thing would be a bootloop or constant app FC's (just my assumption). Expect apps not to work properly if the data partition is full.
Also that disk full icon can be annoying to see so you'll probably do something about the low space before it can cause you some problems.
No problem withthat
Hmm so he's a weird one .. some of my apps are missing names .. it's not the same ones, everytime i reboot, sometimes they're all fine .. then randomly i'll notice some of the names are missing .. anyone else with this? explanation/solution?
PS .. not an SD card thing, happens even if not plugged in ..

This also happens to me sometimes, you can still access the apps but it's just annoying that it looks broken.. This only happens to my apps that I moved from the internal memory to my phone memory (I do this to save space on my 2GB internal memory - more space for messages and emails).
IMO, if you move an app, and you put it in the homescreen as a shortcut, the next time you boot, when the system rebuilds the apps' information, it does not include the apps that were moved to the SD card.
What I do is remove them then just add them back to the folders, I used to do this after a second reboot, usually a second reboot does restore everything, but now I'd rather fix 1 or 2 apps, than rebooting everytime to let the phone correct itself...

Hmmm an annoying oversight by HTC then...
It's not the worse thing in the world, just a minor nuisance.. Thanks for the tip anyways

So, I have been having this really weird and odd issue for whenever I install my applications onto my phone.
After reinstalling them via Titanium Backup, I would have anywhere from 500-200 MB left, depending on how many applications I wanted to reinstall. After installing them, however, within the course of a couple of hours, my phone goes on whacko mode and somehow kills off all of that remaining storage space, depleting me from using my texts or anything else because something is somehow hogging up all that space. I am starting to smell a possible virus though, and I think I will take a check at Lookout just to make sure, but I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else?
This has been happening on CM 10.1 and PACman so it can't be a ROM specific thing. Any and all help is appreciated, especially help as to where I can look to murder this storage space sucking demon from another universe...
*UPDATE*
I did some more digging around and found a application on my phone called MediaStorage, and it apparently had like 800 MB of data on it... How does that even happen? Digging deeper to see what app in particular might be causing it.

I believe that is the built in app/service that detects your media and what updates your gallery for example. It populates gallery and music players to add content. People have had issues where that runs non stop and does not quit. I recall this was a bug in Gingerbread, I have not seen it on ICS but it may still be there. Never tried JB yet as I need some features that it does not have yet on my daily driver.
I've also noticed that with my phone, that it's the biggest battery killer on my phone. -.-
It's back with a 450 MB storage space. Can I just kill the thing for good?

There is an app on the appstore that allows you to disable the service but you need to be rooted: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5hZGR6Lm1lZGlhc2Nhbm5lcnJvb3QiXQ..
Please note your gallery will no longer show anything in it and will be blank same for your audio player if it does not let you point to music and does it via media scanner.
Good luck.
JB
S10 plus keeps self-clicking on things like someone's in my phone.
this time I swiped down to click on the weather notification in my drop down menu, then it locked up, couldn't do anything, the menu closed and my google calendar widget got tapped to 2032, that's how fast it was it went through all the months for every year up to 2032. a lot of times if I do something whatever app I'm using turns into a small box and can't get rid of it except for hitting home button then a floating icon which I have floating icons disabled have to grab it and drag it down to a x remove box.
a ton of bizarre things have been happening as well just random **** like Facebook app actually got pressed then it tried bidding on some marketplace I had to keep on hitting home button and reboot the phone.
the screen is clean this is just really bothering me.
Find the cause today or factory reset.
Suspected malware should be promptly removed.
Clear system cache from the boot menu.
Try in safe mode, if it persists in safe mode, factory reset. If it's not happening in safe mode a 3rd party app is likely the cause, find and uninstall it!
Be careful what you install and download henceforth. Keep social media apps off the phone.

i recall clearing delvik or what ever n cache, in fastboot, files recache or what ever. when I do it on this S10 plus with one UI 3.1 it doesn't show optimizing apps when I clear dalvik and cash.
even Google speech is stupid

Optimizing apps? Turn that junk off!
Clear the system cache.
I don't know what you did but you need to sort this out. That's very abnormal behavior for a stock Samsung.
If you did any recent major OTA upgrades, factory reset. Do not use SmartSwitch, clean load.

It could be a rootkit... I've never seen that type of behavior.
Could be firmware corruption, a SEU.

samsung is a rootkit.
i did a few things we'll see, i'll report back. I even try using screen recorder to capture all this **** but when I get back control of my phone and record for 10 minutes nothing happens it's out of the blue like. grinds my gears about to go linux pc n a flip phone
i got rid of a few things, and cleared cache partition from recovery which apps use to get optimized, number apps on the phone, i haven't seen it since oneui 2.5 i think. seems like facebook app or another app i found out that google play removed was the culprit.
i also adb uninstalled some samsung apps.
i miss root, do what u want and if u fck up restore an image with twrp. and having a fcking sd card slot keep you images on.

Normally stock Samsung's like this are very stable, but they need to be optimized.
This N10+'s load is 2 yo now, still fast and stable.
You are what you install and download. Keep trashware and all social media apps off the phone.
Using Package Disabler makes troubleshooting easier as you can use it in real time.
