I have just installed JuiceDefender on my Desire to try and conserve my battery life, but I have noticed that it enables and disabled my APN (O2), however it seems to also enable and disable Tesco Mobile, I don't even have those APN settings saved on my phone, any idea why it would do this?
Thanks
Stewart
Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network, so it is probably detecting a setting that is confusing it slightly.

I have a Vodafone-supplied Desire. When trying to access mobile tv via http://yamgo.mobi/ or mobile radio via http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/listen.mp neither will work.
I though first of all it was because Vodafone blocks media streaming, so I took an o2 sim from my old Dream which I know can stream this stuff, and put it in my Desire. I have all the correct apn and everything, with data functions working, yet no streaming still. The media player just shows "Loading..." for ages, then a pop-up says "Cannot play video Unable to connect to server".
Have Vodafone crippled my Desire somehow with the ROM?
Is there anyone else who has a Voda Desire and has managed to get streaming working with a different networrk sim in it?
In fact does anyone have the standard HTC rom on their phone and have streaming working?
This is crucial to me, as I have less than 14 days to decide whether to keep my o2 sim or not.
My desire's locked to o2 and I couldnt stream from catchuptv or yamgo. But changing my apn settings has now made it work so maybe you could try and get some different vodafone apn settings.
Hope this helps you
Check the Voda forums. There seems to be some kind of blocking going on - some have suggested using their WAP settings rather than Internet APN settings to get it to work. Looks like just another way for Voda to curb your data usage

Could you share your APN settings please? I have an o2 sim that I'm hoping to get working, so I can dump Vodafone once and for all.
See post #129 on this thread:

Same thing, looks like it could well be a Vodafone Rom block !
This is doing my head in now. I've managed to get streaming working on the (Vodafone) Desire using an o2 sim, but no matter what I do, I can't also have MMS working as well.
I've tried using the same APN for data access and MMS but MMS doesn't work.
Using the APN where MMS works, data works except streaming media doesn't work. I've tried every possible combination, using one APN, or two APNs. Very confused!!
Now I can actually get streaming working I think that disproves my theory that the Vodafone ROM is to blame. It's just getting the correct APN is my problem.
I've contacted O2, and the APN settings they suggest allow data and MMS, but no streaming.
Anyone on o2 who has the correct APN settings to allow data/streaming/MMS all together, please speak up!
Hi, I am after a bit of help here after potentially messing up one of my Wife's friends new Desire.
It is on the the Orange UK Network and is their own branded version of the phone.
Because she was saying that the battery life was not very good, I installed 'apndroid' so that she could easily turn the 3G connection on and off and (hopefully!) preserve the battery life a bit more.
apndroid installed fine and turned the 3G off - however when I clicked the widget icon again, it wouldn't switch back on. I uninstalled apndroid and re-booted the phone but still no joy.
I have checked that 'Mobile Network' is enabled in settings and the 'Network Mode' is set to GSM/WCDMA auto.
Does anyone have any hints/tips/tweaks that might re-enable the 3G please? I can't figure out why this has happened. The settings look exactly the same as I have them on my HTC Tattoo and that works fine.
Any help you can give would be hugely appreciated! (And might get me out of the dog house!).
Check the apn settings. APNDroid changes them from the correct ones to switch off 3G so it should be a simple matter of removing whatever apndroid puts there.
Thanks for the quick reply - I did uninstall APNDroid in case that was what was causing the problem, so hopefully it would have reset itself to what it was originally.
Anyway, I'll get her to check.
If that isn't the problem would it be worth doing a 'hard reset'? She hasn't had the phone that long so she wouldn't lose much.
Thanks again for the help.
3G on Orange
You could try resetting the APN to default:
[Menu] > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > [Menu] > Reset to default
It may be too late for such a simple sort, but it might be worth trying.

APNDroid disabled your APN by adding a suffix of "apndroid" to your APN. If you uninstall APNDroid without reenabling your APN, it will remain disabled.

Dave
Guys, many, many thanks for all your replies - excellent help and suggestions - better than any 'Helpdesk'!!
The Wife will be contacting her friend tomorrow to pass on your suggestions - hopefully this will fix the problem.
Many thanks once again.
Guys,
Just thought I'd let you know we have fixed the problem - it was indeed the APNDroid 'tweak' still showing as enabled on the APN settings. To fix this I just created a new APN using the settings obtained from another Orange branded Desire, and hey presto, all working again!
Just in case they may be useful to someone else, these are the default APN settings for an Orange branded HTC Desire:-
Name
Orange Internet
APN
orangeinternet
'Proxy' through to 'MMS Port'
<not set>
MMS protocol
WAP 2.0
MCC
234
MNC
33
Authentication type
CHAP
APN type
default
Cheers!
I have a Rogers Galaxy Note 2 on the Telus network unlocked using the hardware method posted here previously. Since the unlock I've had some weird data inconsistencies. It wouldn't allow me to do a speedtest; if I refreshed my gmail manually, it would say no connection but if i pressed it an extra time or two, it would work; and scrolling through facebook pictures it would tell me the network was unavailable but the pictures would load anyway. I accepted this as a subtle difference between the two phones.
I couldn't sleep last night and decided to play around with the APN settings. I changed all my APNs to have the bearer "LTE" and to my surprise, I could do speedtests! I thought I had cured everything. But today, my girlfriend tried to send me an MMS, but I couldn't see it at all; if I turned the bearers to unspecified, MMSs worked. I've tried a couple combinations of the two to no avail.
I'm currently using the APN settings given to me by the app Tweakked with the "Unspecified" bearer and MMS works but the data inconsistencies are still there.
Please help. I can tell the hardware functions with Telus, I just need to know if I need to do anything else to get it working smoothly. Thanks in advance!

Fixed it...weird... THANKS ANYWAYS!
I'm currently trying to use Adaway 3.1.2 on my G4 (H815 version) but whatever I do, I'm still getting ads popping up all over the place.
My phone is on Marshmallow and rooted. Adaway successfully downloads and applies host files but this doesn't seem to have any impact on ads appearing on various apps that were previously blocked on a different phone. I've tried changing the target hosts file in preferences but this doesn't help.
Is anyone else having problems with Adaway on their G4 with Android 6? Does anyone have any suggesting regarding what I can do to fix this?
Not sure about Android 6, but I'm on 5.1 and the stock settings for AdAway worked just fine.
Hope you figure it out!
Does it work on WiFi? If it does and just not on mobile data check your APN settings.
If the APN uses a proxy then it can stop it working.
For example on my network (o2 in the UK) the wap.o2... settings show ads as they use a proxy but the mobile.o2... settings work just fine as they don't.
Thank you, this is really helpful as it seems to be ok when used over wifi.
I have an enty in under proxy in my APN settings but the phone won't allow me to change it. The settings were entered automatically when I put my sim card in the phone and I can't make changes to them and if I set up a new APN it won't allow me to switch over to it. Argh!
Thanks again. After a lot of Googling and trial and error, I've managed to change my APN settings and Adaway seems to be working when using mobile data.

To add to this... I'm on giffgaff and removed the APN proxy field and my internet is not affected but adaway is also working on mobile data. From what I read, the proxy is only needed for really old phones.
So I came across this post
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/r343cy
Poster managed to fix his slow lte speeds, but it made me wonder if this could potentially be the reason why ‘mobile network standby’ is a massive drain for so many people.
A lot of fixes for battery could be attributed to this.
Format without transferring = doesn’t bring your previous provider APN settings over, reacquires apn settings
New SIM card / changing from esim to normal sim = the switching of the sim itself reacquires fresh apn settings
Disabling mobile data always active = potentially linked to this also
What do you guys think? Anyone able to try it? My pixel has not arrived yet.

Not sure that's the most reliable site to use, ie the T-mobile APN they list is wicked out of date
I set up a new APN but unable to select it, doesn't let me set the new APN as default at all

What carrier are you on? The carrier can limit it - ie on my Verizon P6P there wasn't even an APN menu item, while on T-Mobile I can add and use whatever I want
