Best Exchange Sync App? Touchdown or HTC Mail or K9? - Desire General

Which in your opinion is the best Exchange sync app on Android - Touchdown, HTC Mail or K9? HTC Mail is Ok but appears limited, Touchdown seems really good, push and GAL work really well, but is it worth $20??? Haven't used K9 so can't comment.
So - which have you found to be the best Exchange Sync App?

I'm using HTC mail and I would say that there are a few issues with it. to begin with, it doesn't seem to pick up entries you type directly into your own exchange outlook. in addition to this I don't really like the way it can't remain synchronized when its out of signal. eg when I'm on the underground on my way to work in the morning and I type an email. I can't just hit send knowing that it will 'push' once I'm in signal again. it forces me to save as a draft. this is actually a pain in the neck.

Try touchdown (it will be called exchange for Android 2.0/2.1) - works a lot better than stock - you just gotta see if it is worth $20 to you...

IMAP Issues

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help.
I recently bought a HTC Desire and I'm loving it except for a big problem with my IMAP email account.
Everything worked perfectly for the first day. However the next morning I noticed I hadn't received any emails. I ended up deleting the account and starting again. No joy.. I ended up hard resetting the device and setting all back up. This time the only mail I received was what it hadn't received prior to resetting.
Now after numerous resets and support phone calls the device receives absolutely nothing yet it will send no problem. I have another account which works fine. Also the email account works fine on all other devices.
I understand the obvious question is whether I've configured the device correctly. Trust me I have.
Please can anyone suggest anything? It's almost like the Desire has cached something about my email account despite the data wipes..?
Many thanks in advance!
David
Just the same issue - "no mails"...
IMAP works perfectly here. I have one Exchange ActiveSync account and one IMAP account.
My IMAP gmail account is working perfectly here too. But I did had problem getting email notification to appear on the status bar which I manage to resolved.
I tried the imap but went back to just the gmail app as the gmail app had the emails come through much faster. I didn't find the imap and gmail worked well at all.
Tried an alternative mail client like K-9?
I'm using K-9 but I don't like it. I haven't yet found anything else that does push with IMAP though. K-9 doesn't work in the same way as other email apps for POP, which I use for another account. In fact it's unusable for me for POP on Gmail as it deletes msgs as soon as they arrive (they are not being deleted from server).

Same problem over here with IMAP failing to retrieve new emails after a certain point. I think the built in client is having difficulty with some messages - if I use another mail client to delete the next email (after the Desire stopped receiving new mail), receiving springs back into life.
I'm going to take a closer look at this. My best guess is that the HTC email client has an obscure bug relating to a mis-implementation of the IMAP protocol. For all sorts of reasons, I'd like to get the HTC client working! Perhaps there's a workaround we can implement until a bug fix is released.
In short, definitely a bug.
I agree, there is definitely a bug in there - more than one. I think I'm going to be forced to go back to good old pop3 for emails on the Desire. Even then though, the HTC mail app doesn't do push. Maybe k9 will work better with pop3 than it does with IMAP. Although neither k9 or the gmail app copy and paste do they? So I don't know what is going to be best.

What do you use, Gmail or HTC Mail?

Well, what do you use?
I use HTC Mail simple because of the home screen widget(hey, its a reason at least) even for my Gmail account(Note, my only account). I have set it as an Exchange mail "As mail arrives(Push)". Hopefully it'll be light at my battery(Theoretically it should, since it won't be repeatedly checking for mails).
What about you?
Somehow I always get 2 notifications (one gmail and one from the htc widget) eventhough I only want the htc one
I use HTC Mail because I think it's much better... especially since I have my hotmail & yahoo mail accounts configured in HTC mail... Another thing I like with HTC mail is that I can go back and read mails offline when I'm not connected to wifi since I don't have an unlimited data plan atm.
Some other things that makes HTC mail better is pinch to zoom, choose between regular or threaded email and much better handling copy / paste / stuff, even though it's implemented in gmail now it's nowhere as good as in HTC mail where selecting text works like a dream.
I use HTC Mail. I like the fact that I can read emails offline. Gmail used to have issues with opening attachments when it was on Eclair but the latest OTA seems to have addressed this issue.
Gmail app for me lol couldn't get on with HTCs mail app
really depends if you prefer pushmail or imap with scheduled retrieve...
I use gmail app as i use gmail as email provider. (but google really does need to stop ****ing around with attachment access, it's kinda ridiculous...)
i use k-9 to have push mail for all accounts.

Then try to open an attachment twice its not possible via googlemail+exchange+htcmail... I hate that but its sadly true...
I use HTC Mail for my gmail account using exchange active sync and push, also pretty much just because of the widget. I have noticed that bug with attachments but it doesn't really affect me much.

k-9 - i think the best , because it is a advancement of g-mail

Maybe yes, also ProfiMail seems to be very popular under the "Pro-Users". But i wonder if there will ever be a MailClient with proper GMail/Exchange support AND a usable UI that doesnt look like Windows CE...
Htc mail app. There is widget and push that is all in need.... Somehow attachments are fine for me now could this be latest update?

Yahoo mail for android, only for yahoo obviously but messages are pushed instantly & when i delete mail its actually deleted, i found with htc mail it would only delete it from my phone, when i signed in online mail was still there.

I had problems with HTC mail, and it used to send 2 mails everytime I send one.
So switched to Gmail app and Yahoo mail for Android app as they both push the mails. Also any deleted mails will be synchronised and removed from the actual accounts.
---------------------------------------------
HTC Desire still on 2.1
I have disabled Gmail because HTC mail can integrate any mail accounts I use. These include, but aren't limited to Gmail, Exchange and my service provider's primary mail account.
I used to have the Gmail App active as well, but I got really annoyed by the notifications that would pop up two times for my Gmail account. Last but not least I simply like HTC's interface choices, they fit much better into the big picture.

Doesn't both got push mail? The HTC Mail does and when I used Gmail it behaved as if it had push mail(Which I believe it does).
Ive been using Both together. Gmail for my personal account and HTC Mail to manage my Exchange Server account for work. Both push and I only get individual notifications, each with their own icon. It works perfectly so I am a bit confused as to what may be causing others issues.
Gmail app for Gmail and HTC Mail for the MS Exchange server. I like the labels support in the Google app but the HTC app is much prettier and more fun to use.
The Gmail interface is very efficient for dealing with lots of email. Faster than the webpage on a desktop, dare I say

[Q] Exchange 2010 and Droid Incredible Push

Hello,
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. We are upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 at my work, while testing Exchange 2010 I found out that activesync (push) email works great on iPhones and iPads, but not on my Droid Incredible . I can create the account just fine and manually refresh to see my mail, but if I have my exchange activesync email set to "as items arrive" and send myself a test email, I don't get it until I open up the email app and it refreshes.
I'm using the default htc email app, I have tried deleting and recreating my account several times. If I have the setting set to any thing else, like sync every 5 minutes it works just fine, but for some reason if it's set to as items arrive I won't get the email until I manually look at the email app. I can't deploy exchange 2010 with this going on as we have many other android users in the company.
Please help!
The Android native email application needs improvement no doubt. I use TouchDown as we have Exchange 2007 and are enforcing security policies. Those don't work too well with the native application.
Push works great, but it's a one time fee of $20, but in my opinion worth it.

Thanks RMarkwald! I downloaded and tried out TouchDown and it works great for Exchange 2010. At least I have a solution if users start complaining about push no longer working after we upgrade.
Hopefully htc will get an update out for this at some point because a simple thing like activesync should work on the stock email app.
Hey no problem! I think that the issue is more of an Android issue, not really HTC, cause it happens across the board. I've had nothing but issues before I purchased TD, and that was before we enabled PIN/security features. $20 is a lot, but my company purchased it for me, and I can use it on my Xoom without having to pay another $20, so IMO it's worth it.
Their support is great too, from the times I've contacted them with questions. I really like you can sync Tasks and manage your Out of Office too.

Built in exchange support or not?

Just saw a disturbing post and I wanted to get some confirmation from those who own the phone.
I saw in a comment on a review of this phone that it doesn't support Ms exchange for email or calendar. I absolutely news push email and calendar for my business. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I am using MS exchange on my SGSII with no issues. Not sure where you read that, but it is totally false. Push email, calendar and contacts all work with exchange.
Thanks. Awesome news

No issues on my side. This phone activates exchange the same way my last 4 android phones have. No issues at all as far as the phone side goes. Also if you have root you can replace the TW email.apk with the stock Gingerbread one. I did this just because I like the aosp email better.

The builtin mail app works fine with my exchange server. I use Touchdown because I like the interface better though...
One thing that you might not be aware of if you're using Exchange 2010 for your mail server is that there is a limit to the number of devices you can connect to an account. You can manage connected devices in OWA so login there and delete any old devices...
One other thing that my exchange server does when I connect the phone to it is to push security settings to my phone. A popup appears on the phone that I have to accept in order to sync mail. If I don't, I don't get anything...
Finally, you could try touchdown and if it works but the built in mail app doesn't then I'd recommend the purchase. It's still better than the improved built in version IMHO
Robin. Another quick question. Can you send and accept calendar invites for exchange from the native calendar apply? That's another big one for me. I am aware of touchdown and even own the license but I am a minimalist and if I don't have to install an app that's services are already present I wont. Thank you in advance.

A better mail app?

I just bought a One X to replace my iPhone 4, mostly happy about it, except the mail app is a bit frustrating
Firstly, iPhone almost always loads the full email instantly, and the ICS app only loads the text version and I have to press a button to load images and that could take an extra few seconds per email
Second, there is no next/previous button? I have to press the back button and select another mail to open it...
Lastly, whenever I receive a new email, iPhone notifies me instantly and I'm a slide of a bar away from viewing the full email, with ICS the notification system doesn't even work for me, I have to refresh the mail app in order to see the new email.
Is there any way to fix this?
I'm using Hotmail
Use the hotmail app from Microsoft. Much better imo. Has push notifications and pinch to zoom.

I am using HTC Mail to work with Gmail. Unless I select a frequent receiving interval, the time getting the new incoming email seem a bit later than what I have used in Windows Phone and iPhone. The best mail client is iPhone that it almost get the email after couple of minutes after sender dispatching the email.
K9 mail https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mc2NrLms5Il0.
Or make an active sync account in the default mail app and set it to push.
My recommendation would be to install "Touch down for smart phones". It is the best mail app that i have found for my hotmail account and also does exchange.
