My charger doesnt fit well and i just came to terms with this but it has got worse the last two weeks. It plugs in and the led lights up but it doesnt charge sometimes, it says it is charging but an hour later and the battery goes down 5% ish. Also it only connects when the phone sits face up and the cord hangs down as in it must sit on the edge of the table for it to charge. I tried my friends Droid cord and it was a snug fit. do i have an insurance claim on my hands?
You can try getting the cable swapped, but honestly I think the amount of hassle you would go through would just not be worth it. If the problem was with your phone then I would 100% definitely get the phone replaced, but if the problem is only with the cable, I'd take the path of least resistance and just buy a new cable out of pocket. They really aren't expensive if you know the right place to get them.
I use this cable here with my Aria and it works great: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
It is only $3.13 shipped (to my address), and it's 2 feet longer than the original cable which I like because I thought the original one was too short. Never had a problem with it charging my Aria. I know it seems too good to be true, but the quality really is just as good as a $20+ cable you'd find at a local store.
I ran into the same problem with an Aria I bought off of Craigslist. It would kind of charge at first, then it gave up altogether. I found that the end that plugged into the phone had been slightly squished by the previous owner. I just went to Staples and bought a Staples branded MicroUSB cable, it's six feet long and works fine. Granted, it wasn't ebay-cheap but I got the problem handled same day, no screwing around. The nice thing about this cable is it's just as flexible as the original, unlike the MicroUSB charge/sync cables that come with Blackberry phones and the extra length makes it a little more versatile.
Don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.
My connection is getting worse every day. It is very aggravating. I'll plug in at night time and wake up to find my phone didn't charge at all. I have to put the cable in at a slight angle to get it to connect.
Using adb and just any file transfer on the computer is almost impossible.
I use the original cable, and sometimes my brother's Captivate cable--both are just as bad.
And the AT&T car charger is a joke. So I think it is the phone, not the cables.
i find that the motorola(backflip) usb doesnt fit snug(still charges & transfers fine, a little slower)
May be just a bit too rough with this little phone
Finally had enough of the cable problem, so I decided to figure out whats wrong. Turns out, I ended up pulling out about a cubic centimeter of dust and lint from in the port (way down in there, a quick glance and it didn't look as bad as it really was.)
Works like a charm, now!
Brivette, glad to see you fixed your issue!
For future reference,
The MicroUSB cable that has become the new standard contains 2 prongs on the end of it. This prong is responsible for ensuring it stays locked into the connector.
The newer MicroB connector is rated at a higher use cycle than the old MiniB type, which is why current devices are moving to it as a standard. It is also designed so that the cheaper cable will bear the wear and damage, rather than the device. The usual culprit is the two latch pins at the top of the male connector which tend to wear and bend eventually causing the cord to become "flaky" or fickle (for a lack of a better term). This is usually the cause of most people's woes. However often times the connections from inside the cable may wear and short out, causing the cord to become dysfunctional. Before sending your phone in for a replacement, I highly recommend trying a second cable.
If changing the cord doesn't work, the problem most likely lies with the phone. While it is possible that the PCB mount has come disconnected from the board, it is more often than not likely that the port has become clogged with debris. So before sending your phone in for service, check the port and ensure that the port is clear and clean of obstruction.
This also goes for charging or data transfer. Sometimes issues with data transfer can arise out of a bad cable. This often happens when people wrap their cord too tightly or kink it, which causes signal interference. It also occurs with frequent use and wear and tear, which is normal.
Take good care of your cord, and it'll be there to last you a long time.
Pretty much earlier today, I was in my car and plugged my Desire into the car charger. Along my trip I noticed the phone wasn't charging and fiddled around a little with it. When I took it out I looked at the charger slot on the phone and noticed that a little bit of plastic that covers one of the contact pins has come off/been removed. So now one of the contact pins on the end show, unlike the others.
The car charger wouldn't charge my phone unless I put downward pressure on the charger plug. Just got home and it works perfectly fine with my USB wall charger, without the need to fiddle.
Question is; should this cause many problems charging phone in the future? And secondly, is it fixable at all?
Given I own the phone outright (8181A model) and it's on an Optus BYO plan, so no insurance etc. It's a touch over a year old now and obviously can't be without a phone. I'm just hoping it lasts some while longer because I'm not in a financial position to just go buy a new one and I only just renewed my BYO cap during the week for 12 more months. -__-
TBH I can't see any of the contact pins on my phone
I just wanted to share my experiences with the Beyond Cell Inflex case. I purchased a black one off eBay for around $14 delivered. The case fits the phone well, looks good, and feels good but there is not enough room around the USB charging port to actually plug the phone in while it's in its case. The USB cable that came with the phone fits, barely. I have to kind of wiggle it to get it in and it feels like I'm stressing the female connector in the phone by doing that. All the other USB cables or chargers I have from previous phones will not fit. I can force the connector in and the phone begins charging but then it pops right back out as soon as I remove my hand. I'm very disappointed. You get what you pay for I suppose. Here's a link:

I want to buy a magnetic charger and I live in India and very low quality cables are available on the local websites. I have looked for cables on eBay.com which ship to my location but I don't know which one to buy. I need your opinions. My maximum budget is 12$(incl. shipping).
The WSKEN Cable is available at my location. Is the cable worth buying?
Thanks in advance.
I got wsken magnetic cable, and its build quality is fine, but magnet is not that strong - its even weaker than another fake original sony cable i got. But if you just use it to charge your phone without using it, it can do the job.
I wouldnt recommend one with a very strong magnet. There have been some horror stories of the storng magnet PULLING the phones charge port completely out. I got a fairly weak one from amazon.

Fits perfectly with my Cruzerlite TPU case. I even have EXTRA room for clearance. Magnet isnt the strongest which makes me happy as I only charge at night when I'm sleeping as the phone lasts through the day for me.
Yup, it happened to me. I use a Magnector adaptor and it is very strong, after a while the whole connector came off as there was simply a VERY thin acrylic glue foam tape (VHB ?) holding it and keeping water off. By thin I do not mean the thickness but the actual long side surface
The good news is that the connection with the internal PCB board are spring loaded, so I put it back in place and tested it then used a needle to put some cyanoacrlylate glue to hold it, it never came out again and the phone still look ok. Now I always try to removing it with a twisting motion just in case...
It is hard for me to understand how they can claim waterproof and use such thin gasket but I still like this phone a lot!
hmm dont think I'll be getting a magnetic charger any time soon then if it comes off that easily. >_<
It's just the Magnector adapter that seems to do that. None of the others are strong enough to pull the connector off of the phone.
I just bought an OEM one from aliexpress for only $2.71 US. btw you only save .03 if you use the mobile app

I also have a generic magnetic charger. The one with a circle blue LED in the part near the magnet. I found that it charges slowly compared to the OEM usb cable that came in the box. I used the same OEM charger for both tests.
Charging via magnetic cable is roughly 60-70% of the speed of normal USB charging. Is this just me that I have a low quality cable or is it really that much slower?
I tried two Magnetic cables but they don't work on my Z3 Compact because pins are not aligned with phone and charging not working probably because there is no contact. Actually i got one with LED indicator to work several times but on slightly move it stops charging and it is hard to get it to charge again so I gave up on these cables.
I bought original Sony DK48 Dock and it's working out of the box. Only issue is that I need to remove protective case before charging because with it phone won't fit in Dock. It almost fits so I'll probably try to modify larger adapter so phone can fit with case...
I received my DK48 dock and magnetic cable from Ali Express and they both work great. The charging cable ($2.71) matches the pins perfectly so doesn't appear to be a knock-off. I have a Devilcase bumper and works with the DK48 dock also with the case on--just attach the included back rest. It takes me a few times to get it aligned perfectly to charge but works.
I'm using this cheap one and it works great for me. Magnet is ok so you can even move your phone as long as the cable is parallel to your phone.

I'm have WSKEN X-cable Easy Version, and it's great.
You can also try WSKEN X-CABLE DOUBLE METAL which has a charge indicator led.
Both cables charge my device faster than original Xperia Z2 charger and magnet is not too weak/too powerful.
Check WSKEN website for details.
I've tried several magnetic chargers and adapters and always facing the same problem, too weak magnet and if the phone is moved even an inch the cable falls off. Finally I got WSKEN X-CABLE for 7$ and that did the trick, everything works great including fast charging. You can literally hold your phone up in the air by the charger. And no, the magnet is not too strong as described in previous posts, with a slight pull it comes off without breaking the phones charging port. There is even a little plastic widget included to attach the cable into the right position angle and you can perfectly use the phone while charging. I've had my G3 for approximately 8 months, and I've been using it normally, wihout any kind of abuse, and using the cord that came with it to charge the battery. Yet, a very annoying problem has surfaced : the plug releases itself very easily as of late. Just slightly moving the phone when charging disconnects the plug. I checked the connectors on the phone and on the cable, and I could not find any kind of debris that would prevent a good connection. Has anybody else had this very annoying problem ?
i have a similar problem, not the cable unplug itself but the cable sometimes have to be on diferent position to plug suceful in the phone!
one thing you can do without have trouble is to buy a wireless charger (if your phone supports it in NFC antenna) and charge the phone with that! OR if you are in guarantee time you can send it to there and see what the technians says to you.
