My Htc Desire can't get a GPS lock at all, doesn't seem to matter what I do. Any clue?
Using Navigon btw.
Do you have the Telstra desire?
if so there is issues, please search this sub-forum for "GPS" to find the threads.
Also theres other threads about non-telstra customers experiencing other problems.

hi,
first of all i hope that this problem hasn't been posted anywhere else before, if so please send me the link to that thread. anyway:
I've always had issues with mobile network reception in my room (i live in the countryside) but after years i manage to find the spots in my room, where there's quite good reception and so i always put my phones in the spots. it normally works well that way but with my new desire hd it's not that easy sometimes:
from time to time it just doesn't get any network reception, no matter how long i have it laying in that spot. but the strange thing is when i put it into airplane-mode and then back into normal-mode, all the sudden it gets (quite good) reception again. i've tried this a few times now (with attention on not moving the phone or changing its position in any way) and it always works that way... my question is if somebody can tell me what's wrong with my phone and if there is a solution for it apart from the airplanemode-trick (that's not a satisfying solution, cause the problem occurs on an irregular basis and i often don't notice it until someone calls me on my landline, asking me why i didn't respond to their textmessages etc...)
thanks in advance to your answers
my phone: HTC Desire HD, Bootloader 1.38..., rooted, radio s-off, eng s-off, but still htc-standart rom with android 2.2
Using the stock phone app dial *#*#4636#*#* it will automatically go to a menu when you press the last *.
First option then scroll down you'll see a select box, probably says WCDMA preferred, change it to GSM auto and see if that helps.
More info on this can be found by searching too.
If that doesn't work you could try using a different radio (again, search. Lotas of info in teh dev forum already).
So I know this has been asked in a million forums but I haven't seen one for the E4GT so here goes:
I'm going to Europe soon and I have all the offline map programs I could ever ask for however:
All attempts to create a GPS lock without using data/internet here in the States seems to be fruitless.
Basically I switch to airplane mode then try to get a lock but can't.
GPS Status will find the Sats in moments with data, but without it is hopelessly lost.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Hi All, i cannot post in the developer section of Xperia Ion, as I am a noob, so am posting this here..
I love CM10, but for me there is no GPS Lock. It constantly says Searching for GPS when an app requests GPS data (like google maps etc..).
I have tried the other usual tricks of turning GPS off/on, off/reboot/on etc.. but nothing. I downloaded GPS Test, and it is picking up 16 satelites, but apparently '0' are in use by the phone, which leads me to believe the GPS should be working, but due to a software problem it cannot lock on (not hardware problem). I have found a few threads on other phones running CM10 that have a similar problem, but nobody with an Xperia let alone Xperia ion has this problem or has spoken about it.
Could someone post this question in the developer forum please? Or alternatively just answer here if you haev any tips or tricks?
Thanks a lot in advance
Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum thing, but I'd appreciate to get your opinions and/or help if possible.
I have a rooted the phone.
Now, when using Google Maps Navigation, be it while in my car (HTC Car on HTC rack), or when walking, biking..., usually you can get your position just with the GPS turned on, no mobile network or Wi-fi.
This is my story, my problem, and it's really starting to annoy me.
So please, you good people here in the XDA-forums, anyone of you guys had/has a similar problem or even a solution?
Thank you all, and may the force be with you, Android, always!
Hi @Ohad179,
Welcome to XDA, enjoy your stay.
On to your issue, I think in your haste to tell us about your problem, you didn't tell us about your problem.
Are you saying that you don't get a GPS fix when you don't have any cell coverage? Same with WiFi?
It almost sounds like your enabling "Airplane Mode", which in turn will turn the radios off and presumably GPS. I don't remember it doing that when I had my One X, GPS is purely a passive system and shouldn't be affected by "Airplane Mode"
Are you able to more accurately describe your issue, and provide anymore details about your phone? I.e. ROM, Version, etc...
Hello, what to you suggest to upgrade because of week, connection loosing GPS. I am on stock 2.3.3 and mainly use phone to GPS navigation. Please suggest any flawless working GPS upgrade. Thank you in advance.
Navigation programs (either Google Maps as iGO) work about 1 hour (this is not specified time) and after there is stop of navigation and message " GPS signal lost" while I see (in iGO) 7-9 satellites in range! And programs keep searching the satellites endlessly.
What could cause this problem and what the cure is?
I use HTC Desire A8181 and latest origin firmware (2.3.3)
