Hey guys i'm wondering if you could help me out. I've only just got the Desire and its working great but sometimes the multitouch just seems to stop working for some unknown reason and i would have to reboot the phone to be able to get it to work again. I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced this and how you managed to fix the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
For me the problem was caused by some other input methods dl'd from the market.
Try switch back to factory input method or the HTC_IME mod from the forum,
that immediately solved the multi-touch issue for me.
Hmm ok I'm using swype atm so if it happens again I'll try and switch back to the original keyboard. I thought out might have been caused by my task killer (eStrong). So I uninstalled that to try and solve the problem

Also, try to re-calibrate your screen to improve touch precision:
Go to Menu -> Settings -> Language & keyboard -> Touch Input -> Text Input. Scroll down and select Calibration tool and Reset calibration, if necessary.
If you still have the same issue and if after trying what was posted above fails, hard reset.
Cheers I'll try that the next time it happens. It just seems so random

Its been reported that the issue happens when swype is installed... which you have.

Yup, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6265748
one person mentions it causes multitouch issues after you install the app, but if you reboot the phone then it's fine. Try rebooting before anything else.
Cheers guys that seems to be the issue. Ah well its a small sacrifice i guess. Swype is really awesome . already getting quite good at it after a day playing around with it.

Hi. I've had my Desire for some weeks now. But some day or two ago the text vibration stopped working. It's only the vibration when I get a text that doesn't work. When someone calls, feedback when I'm writing also work.
Anyone of you that know what it could be? I've checked settings etc.

I had the very same problem with my first Desire on a week or two after I got it. I tried literally everything. I called HTC they had no idea what to do nor how to fix it. So I called T-Mobile (who I got the phone from) told them about it, they couldn't fix it either so I got a replacement phone.
Seemingly there is no way of fixing it. The motor is fine, but something is bugged. Perhaps one of the more astute Desire users (using custom ROMs) may be able to shed some more light on the problem, but as far as I know, it is unfixable.
Ok. I guess I need to contact the store I got it from. Thanks

This is a known issue which means the text vibration stops working when the battery gets low and it doesn't come back after charging the phone.
Download and install sound manager from Android market, use it to turn on text message vibration and it'll all work again for you. Best of all It's all completely free.
Let us know if it works for you like it did for me.
Rik.

Well sound manager worked. Thanks a lot

I just love a problem like this that seems unfixable only to find a detailed and workable fix. Bravo.
I wish I would've known that before getting a replacement phone. Ah well, it didn't cost me anything.
Glad it worked for you all, can't remember where I first heard it but it worked for me

sounds i have different problem...my vibration can not be switched off...i might try the sound manager too...

I installed sound manager after, I observed that the vibration does not work on my phone. For the beginning all was OK,I began testing and saw that from 5 calls 3-4 are without vibration and 1 is with the vibration, though the vibration is on from phone settings and sound manager.I didn't try to factory reset the phone because I would lose everything .Any ideas would be appreciated.
I had this problem a while ago. Download 'Sound Manager' from the Market, and there's an option in it, 'Vibrate Always' or something. That did it for me anyway, hope it helps you

@BUTCHER0123
I had an intermittent problem with the vibrate function after about 6 months. I sent my phone back to HTC. Initially they replaced the motherboard which didn't fix the problem. I sent it back again (set as priority) and they replaced the vibration module. It all works fine now. It's an option to consider if you can put up with being without your phone but I think it's worth doing.
I dont know since when this problem persisted but the keyboard on my desire is weird.
Everytime i try to type fast, there's other letter i don't touch appear in the screen as if i touch it. Mostly the letters appear are y, g, and v.
Knowing that, i then did some test. I tried to type fast only using the letters near my left and right thumbs like a/s and l/k and i did it continuously. As the result, i could see the letter g touched itself while i never touched it AT ALL and then it appeared on the screen.
Then i tried the other line by touching q/w and o/p and the letter y appeared just like the letter g.
That also happened with the third line with the letter v.
This happens everytime i use keyboard (messaging, notes, email, etc)
I dont know if the ROM i'm using causes this because I have tried using some ROMs (not all yet but plenty)and the only one I did not experience this is when i'm using Open Desire ROM. But I dont like Open Desire because I want Sense on it.
I also believe the applications did not cause this since this problem appears just after i flash the ROM and havent installed any application yet
Anybody knows why it happens and how to solve the problem?
FYI my Desire is rooted with Unrevoked way and right now using Lambros ROM.
Any reply is appreciated. Thanks.
Edit:
After trying using Open Desire again, it looks like the problem also occurs with it. I also have calibrated the keyboard but the problem's still there.
Still waiting for anyone can help.
Hi!
I have the exact same problem! (I'm using standard Froyo on a non-rooted Desire).
There's something else, when I type faster than usual and the random letters start appearing the backspace key stops working. I can't delete anything at all and the only solution is to retract the keyboard and then bring it up again. If I do that it works perfectly... until it starts acting up again!
My solution? Well.. I tried Swype and it seems to work just fine! Sure, it's WAY different but it's worth it. It just works flawlessly. And if I don't want to swype I can always type normally, it works for that as well and it doesn't malfunction like htc's keyboard.

Thank you very much for the reply and the solution.
Me have the same problem with the backspace either. I will try using swype although i don't use english often for text messaging or else.
Still waiting for other input which might have another solution without installing third party application or add-on.
So does the official froyo cause this? because i haven't had a problem like this when i was using eclair based custom ROM or N1 froyo based custom ROM as i recall
better keyboard is fab !!!!!! and it works very well typing fast .. the swype thing is rubbish , as I cant spell very well...

Well it doesn't matter any application you want to use since that's not the main concern. I'll try Better Keyboard as well. But when I tried to search it in the market with keyword 'better keyboard', I couldn't find it because too many add-ons and the application itself was beneath them. Can anyone help me with it? I can also not find Swype since there's only one application appear when I type 'swype' on the market and it's not Swype
this is beacause desire has no real multitouch.
any keyboard will have same issue
Better keyboard is a paid app. Can't see those if you are not living in eligible country...

I see. I tried the one in blapkmarket but it's still the same
It's been so long and i finally got the solution after all this time.
My friend told me that this problem is caused by multitouch error and that means hardware problem. He had the same problem but his is HTC Hero.
Then, I tried changing my ROM to MIUI J-Style 10.29 and unexpectedly the problem is gone. From that, I at least can conclude that this is not hardware problem. Anybody having similar problem can try having MIUI for the device's ROM. But maybe some Android-freak dislike it because it has iOS look.
My keyboard constantly freezes, sometimes when the phone is ringing and I cannot even answer the call.
Is there a way to force close it?
Did you already tried rebooting your phone?

Thanks for the answer but my question is if there is a way to force close Keyboard so I can answer a call if the phone is ringing or an sms, etc.
When I reboot it fixes the issue of course.
Think he meant does a reboot fix the problem for good or at least for a while, meaning it doesn't happen the next time or for a few more times. I understand that is a pain. I have not experienced the keyboard freeze/lag problem since being on 4.0.4 if that helps. As far as a way to FC the keyboard WHILE your phone is ringing.. I think you are out of luck.

I guess I'll just wait for the update, thank you for the reply.
well you can always go into the running apps section and force close the keyboard, it'll be a running service.
I haven't heard of the issue. Haven't had any keyboard problems. Sorry.
So every since I updated my t-mobile HTC M8 to lollipop, about every week or so, the keyboard won't open...just won't appear at all. I have tried a 3rd party keyboard as well...same results.
Has anyone else seen this behavior???

Yes I believe it's a known issue. I experienced the same thing.
I know this isn't a fix but just wanted to note that I do not see this happening with Swiftkey. Just saw it was stock keyboard. So you could try a 3rd party keyboard until a fix is pushed out.

I've had this same experience and it's super annoying! I have to reboot my phone to be able to update my Insta sometimes!! I'm not technical so I don't know what else to do.
Locking and unlocking your phone a few times quickly (power button) will correct the issue.

Thank you, I'll try that!
Same issue here. Haven't found out, what triggers the problem, but it's definitely not happened with (HTC Stock) Android 4.4.
I solve the problem by:
-> beforehand: BE CAREFUL: This means deleting all your settings for the HTC keyboard!! I think also memorized/stored words and stuff. It means back to stock for the keyboard.
I open Settings - Apps - All Apps - HTC Sense Input and delete all data. Since my only settings for the keyboard are disabling any type of Autocorrect and spell check, these are set again very quickly.
Why I do this? Because after a restart I get this problem again in about a day, and this solution seems to last a bit longer.
I hope, HTC knows about the problem. I wouldn't have updated, if the update functionality could be disabled (not because I was able to foresee the keyboard problem, but because Android 4 was kinda perfect).

I've seen the solutions offered on forums, everything from resetting the phone to toggling the power button to simply pretending you were typing (where the keyboard would appear one key at a time); one interesting one was to clear the data on the "Touch Input" app, which I did not have on my M8, so I cleared the data on a random program - I chose the first one that had data, the "Blink Feed" program (which I haven't set up or used yet), and the keyboard began appearing again.
So the solution may be to simply 'clear data' - on any program, but perhaps Blink Feed in particular.
I also saw that people upgraded to the Lollipop operating system and began to experience the problem, but rather than dealing with that, the clear data method is easier and quicker, until HTC fixes the problem and offers a Lollipop patch.
edit: ignore, didn't check the date of earlier posts.
Good evening, just lately I have encountered a bug when trying to install APK's. When I go to install via Package Installer it will open up the screen and when I go to press next it doesn't do anything, I have tried rotating the screen and pressing Next and it just doesn't work whatsoever...
I powered off my device and powered back on and this seemed like it fixed the problem.
Is/has anyone else encountered this? I've also noticed ometimes when typing on the keyboard the sound goes tinny for 5 seconds or so and go back to normal, it's been like this since unboxing too.
I haven't had this issue exactly, but when I install a new app and it asks for permission to access my location/storage/etc.. I can't press Allow.. I can press Deny though no problem at all. Right now I'm manually going into apps/permissions and granting all my apps whatever I think it needs.. Just a pain to do it that way though!
I had this issue the other night. It seems an invisible overlay gets stuck sometimes. Not sure what app or why, but clearing all the recent apps fixed it for me. Try that if it happens again instead of waiting for the phone to restart.

Also had this problem two days ago and restarting seemed to fix it. I was disabling some of the stock apps at the time so I wondered if that had something to do with it but I don't know, don't think I re-enabled any of the apps or anything before or after the reboot and so far it's been working since.

Thanks for your feedback and I have also had that problem too. Of course yes we can go into app settings and enable and like you stated it's a pain haha. I know this isn't the place to point these problems out and get them fixed but it's nice to know I'm not the only one ??

I'd like to mention I have disabled and uninstalled quite a lot too, but I can't say if this adds to the problem. It'd just be really nice to hopefully get the new build of software that was recently announced on Xperia Blog but I can't say if this will fix the problems etc. I don't know? ??

I've experienced this issue as well and the culprit seemed to be an overlay permission from another app. As I'm sure everyone knows, this phone's screen is very bright even at it's lowest setting. I like to read at night and the light bothers my wife so I started using an app called Nightowl that further dims the screen. Nightowl produces a overlay that dims the entire screen. If i happen to be running nightowl and try to install the app, I can't tap install. Once I turn off the app I'm able to install like normal. Hope that helps lead you in the right direction as restarting the phone every time a problem presents itself is kind of a bummer.
