Sky/Constellation Map - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi guys, I've never posted in this forum, but here's to hoping it doesn't get moved or whatever. This seemed to be the most logical place to ask. I've been google searching for a few days now looking for a good sky/constellation map. I only have to drive about 20 miles out of town to be completely free of light pollution, and my girl and I find it quite relaxing. The last time I was in a planetarium was elementary school, so I don't quite remember where all the different constellations, stars, and planets that are visible with the naked eye are.
I saw some applications purporting to do just what I'm looking for via google, but I'm wary to install jack **** on my phone without reading some feedback from XDA. I've done a lot of cool **** with these phones, and haven't bricked a one of them thanks to y'all. I'm basically looking for an app that saves the star map to microSD (EDGE-only out in the country, sometimes GPRS if you REALLY get out there), and sets the view of the map based on GPS data. Also, it must support a screen resolution of 480 x 800.
Have any of y'all used such software in the past, and if so, what might your favorites be? I didn't even try to XDA-Google this, because I have NO clue as to the proper terminology for such an application.

Have a look at this...

You can download a free 15 day trial to see if you like it.
I've used it for years in its various versions.

Sweet action, dude. I'm trying out the trial right now, but we just had some nifty weather so the stars aren't visible. I'll check it out when it clears up. On a scale of 10, how would you rate it? Also, are you using the latest version? Thanks for the feedback.

I have used it for years too. On latest version. The GPS facility allows you to see exactly what is above you! 10/10 for me. Had astronomy programs of various sorts on WM devices. This is the best. Worth buying.

I'm on version 6.1.
For what I've used it for it's been fab. I'd give it a 9/10.

Another great one that I use is Astro Navigator 2
It will pick up your location via gps and the night vision mode it includes works pretty dang well!

Now I don't vote for that one. The display of the constellations and the whole GUI is a bit quirky. It seems to me that it was designed by a graphics artist rather than a "creative" astronomer. I got so fed up with it that I uninstalled it. Pocket Stars wipes spots off it (or knocks stars into it!).
Pocket Stars has GPS and night vision colours you can choose.
For years I used Pocket Universe 2000, designed for WM2003. It was never redesigned to work with WM5 and WM6. It would work but you had to avoid the first splash screen, else it locked up! But it had the simplest and easiest to understand GUI and clear star display and even a tree lined horizon, if you really wanted it, as an option. It might still be around on the internet. I bought it and used it for a long time, but I bought Pocket Stars and it is now so much better.
I see DeathmonkeyGTX has now asked for a screen save. You do not need to do this really as you can recreate the sky for any place and any time and then view it. However, if you want to save a screen (of any app) then you could run Resco Photoviewer or some other graphics program than can copy the screen on the WM device and save to microSD etc. I use Pocket Stars at 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution. Have a look at the web-site of the developers to see if it works on 480 x 800?

Looks like I need to update, I'm on version 6.0, but I've also used Pocket Stars for the last three years or so I've been using Windows Mobile.
Here's a screenshot from my Tilt 2.

Kyphur - How do you do it???

I know this is a new post, and I'll probably get flamed etc...
But, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
You were up before 5am posting a new rom (so no sleep last night).. went to work and still carried on answering questions (good and dumb ones).. then you've got enough sense left to make a good decision NOT to include an embeded radio in WMXL AND close the thread to stop timewasters (like me)...
Go and get some sleep bcos we need you... stop posting for a few days and just watch us get screwed up and sorted out without you - you've already done the hard work, without which there would be no discussion...
Hero worship, hero worship, we're not worthy etc
I'm going to be off the forum for a few days, got to catch up on work and sleep. PM me any fixes. I'm already looking towards v0.30.
Oh yeah, if you're getting more value from your Hermes, send some support first to XDA-Dev (this place is expensive to maintain) then to the guys who came before me and if anything is left for me it's appreciated but make sure XDA and those who built the foundations I based this on get their fair share. See the list in my threads...
Long Live XDA!!!!!!!
i do have to agree!!
how on Earth have Kyphur the XDA-Devs team managed to turn my tytn from a slow WM5 pain to an awesome super speedy WM6 monster!!!
You guys are gods among mortals!
Yes, he is the man and all, don't say it too much or you will wear it off.
You know what I think we should do too? Send them some coin.
Come on guys, for all intensive purposes HTC and Microsoft where planning on screwing us by not giving us an update. Since so far their take is "Hell, you want WM6, then buy a new phone!" Yeah, like as if the TyNT is a $50 dollar candy bar.
Here come these guys and not only set the vanilla but are working on an improved version of WM6.
Even two bucks is better than just words --more is better, $5 perhaps? Show your support. I will.
Thanks for the work XDA!
You don't need to send these guys cash, they're made of money and are actually using multiple clones of themselves to work in parallel. Kyphur Mark I sleeps 20 hours a day, don't pity him. He has lost his looks though.

Is this the whole developers team? I thought there were more of them. But now I see their photos I think I understand why they don't get out much... Maybe I'll use this as my today screen

Running Windows Mobile on iPhone...it needs to be done!!!

so i was looking at the many iphone knock offs and personally i am not impressed with the hardware, but as i am a pc and not a mac i will never ever use the Mac OSX operating system without an overwhelming feeling of shame as though i have just cheated on my wife; not that i have and would know what that feels like but you get my drift.
my point is gentlemen that we need to collect our talents and intelligence and move toward a break through in modding. I am currently running SNN Lite Edition and am very pleased with it. Upon exploring the OS, i realized that there exist the possibility to expand upon this work and take it to new heights.
to begin with as i said earlier i am running WM6.1 SNN Lite edition, 3rd party apps include SPB Mobile Shell II, Wisbar Advance 3, Advance Config, Network Wizard, Resco Explorer and Photo Viewer, among others. The only 2 of the apps that i mention that have anything to do with what we are and will be discussing are WisBar Advance 3 and SPC MS II.
take a look at the following screen shots, photoshoped so dnt ask me for the ROM i haven't created it...heck i wouldn't even know where to start;

i mean all we're really talking about here is a mobile version of bootcamp or something to the effect of creating partitions on the iphone hard-drive and then booting into the windows mobile and delete the iphone rom or better yet since one would have to spend so much on buying the device then one could have both OS's running...choosing to booting into one or the other.
But again i wuldnt know where to start so if any of you genii could figure out how to do this then i can assure you, you would go down in modding history.
jus for the hell of it, someone in Development and Hacking started a thread entitled "MUST SEE" about how he found an "iPhone" that runs both the iPhone rom and WM6
it's definitely some kind of chinese iClone obviously.
i suppose the problem here would be drivers for the screen.
also, a whole bunch of the features wouldn't work out that well(visual voicemail, accelerometer)
The only real upside I see is the hardware and that is only until the new devices like the Xperia1 come out.
For pure geek factor I will admit that it would be the bee's knee's though.
So...
Any one seriously consider tackling this on? I wish I had the knowledge to do it, because I would in a HEARTBEAT.
EDIT: Anyone see this yet? Thoughts?
http://solomobi.com/viewproduct.asp?pro_id=1364&page=1
actually it's an iphone...i simply photoshoped screenshots of my phone onto it. i'm running WM6.1 the screen ou see there is Dredd's mobile shell theme for mobile shell 2 and of course the taskbar is vista pocket 2 running on wisbar advance 3...and a WMP11 skin.
but you see my point here...however you want to customize your windows mobile device you can...which you cant do with an iphone...
lemme drop some research some you:
Partioning/Dual-Booting the iphone http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/03/12/dual-booting-the-iphone/
Jailbreaking the easy way:

iphone to have dual-core processor
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/04/23/a-powerpc-in-your-iphone/
dang this iclones seem 2 have better thing than the iphone i mean dual simcard slots, cameras and bluetooth, and running wm6... apple should take some notes...
impossible
Running windows mobile/windowsCE is completely impossible from a end user/hacker point of view for the iphone let alone ANY device that does not run WM/CE. it all comes down to drivers, and the developers(like HTC, Gigabyte...) makes them.
You have to understand each WM ROM is custom made for each device by manufacturers. WM/CE is fully componentised from ground up right down to including keyboard support, so only minimal drivers are included in the ROM to make it small.
So unless you can do programming in low level(010010101010) and have complete access to hardware and chip design then it is impossible to have it boot WM natively.
btw, we are hackers(or some of us are), and we *might* be able to make a device emulator and just emulate WM/CE like on the PC. of course, currently thats next to nothing - as we need an opensource/free emulator for WM/CE that does not exist.
the only way to make it real and feasible is VNC. They did the same thing with Android-on-WM(and i think it works great).
the screen resolution of the iphone is absolute incompatible.

What was Tmobile thinking?

I've decided on getting the TP2 tomorrow from Tmobile. However, my concern is that they left out the home screen with the flip clock and opted for the myfavs rotating screen.
Doesn't make any sense. Not everyone uses myfav. I'm on a unlimited voice plan ($50 unlimited voice) and have no plans to configure myfavs. Why couldn't they provide the ability to reset it back to the default home screen like on the unlocked versions. I really wanted to have the ability to look at my upcoming meetings/calendar at one quick glance if possible on the home screen.
From what I've heard, TP2 has minimal tmobile branding. Except for the home screen.
I'm hoping the cooks get a rom or some utility out there to default the TP2 back to the original HTC homescreen. argghhh..such a perfect phone and the carriers f**k it up!!
Enough ranting. I'll posting my initial thoughts when I pick up the device tomorrow morning.
Nice detailed review here with video of the TMO version on engadget.com
http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/12/t-mobile-touch-pro2-review/
agreed. hopefully a solution will arise quickly.
i'll be posting up my thoughts as well coming from a long time IPhone user.

yes, but is there anyway to maintain the benefits of My favs without having to have the tab present after setting it up?
i would assume the My favs are handled on T-mobiles side, not the phones.
Good news for me, I don't have/use My Faves. Nor do I plan on it. So if I'm understanding that right I should see the regular home screen?
If so, awesome.

Not having it or disabling the software display both work fine.
Crazy talk, I'm not with TMo yet, so I can't say for sure, but I would think disabling myfaves display on the phone would not prevent calls you make to your 5 favorites from getting special benefits.

Oh thank you! This must have been posted after I read the review/comments on engadget.com. Will definitely give it try as soon as I power it up.
It's all good.
I can't get over how much better the phone looks in the wild compared to TMobile's publicized shot. The Engadget and pocketnow almost don't look like the same phone. Tmobile's people somehow found a way to accentuate all the wrong stuff.

Windows mobile and TOUCH FLO allows you to change what you will have on your tabs in touch flo. Just switch the My Faves tab off and there you go. That should work.

Can't. The MyFaves tab is locked to the 1st tab, unless you disable it altogether (and in turn get the regular Home screen back)

few questions about TP2...

I'm about to buy a TP2 and 'till then I have a few questions...
1. I plan to use this phone in my car a lot... navigation and stuff... the thing is... if I put it horizontaly (landscape) will I see something if I wear polarized sunglasses?... with my actual phone (e71) if i turn it 90 degrees I see nothing...
2. voice dialing... I saw there are many problems with this... my question... is there an aplication to voice dial like nokia phones do (s60 3rd)?... I mean to just recognize the name in the agenda... and not having to asign tags to each contact?...
that's it for now... thanks...
no one?...
another one?... how is the responsivness of the phone app?
2. Voice Command (or whatever its called) is true voice dialing, you don't have to set up any tags. To access it you just hold down the SEND/TALK key. It also recognizes other commands too, such as openning programs.
how it is in size comparing to the tytn I?... i wanna buy but in my area there is no shop displaying it on the shelf... only by order... and i hate to buy something without ”feeling” it!...

today i was about to buy it... i went down to a shop that had it... but there i changed my mind... the box was unsealed... the original screen protection was weird... i mean full of bubles between it and the screen... like it was taken off and re applied... but the worse was that the tilting mechanism had a powerfull click sound when tilting off the screen... is this normal?... anyway i was a bit dissapointed with it... i remember when i saw my tytn or my e71 i was the happiest man on earth... today wasn't like this... the phone felt like those replicas they put in shops on the shelves... i may be mistaken... but i don't know... i have to see another one live before i buy it... if i will buy it...
i don't now... it felt cheap... not sturdy at all... i cannot belive this... i thought this was the one... for about to weeks i think i read all about it and watched all clips on youtube with this phone...
It´s a great device!
Once you have it on your hands you´ll realize that is the best actual device with hardware keyboard on the market definitely!
mine didn't have the clicking sound. No idea if others do but I don't think so. It's supposedly a big phone but it really doesn't feel that big to me. Longer and wider than my last one but also slightly slimmer. It feels like a good size in my hands. Try to find another one. Plus, the one you mentioned sounded used.

Aggreed, feels "just right" when in your hand.
sounded used??? more like abused, trashed, etc.
itțs a lot of money... and when i realised the box was already opned I was pissed off... i have seen a lot of unboxing videos on youtube... and none of the devices unboxed had the original screen protector (the one with the warning message) full of bubbles beneath...
tomorrow i wanna make an online order... at least I think... may be i”ll change my ming... who knows.... the thing is that ițm quite happy with my e71 till know.... but still that huge screen is tempting....

Question Help, pre purchase advise/check

Hello,
Im thinking of buying a Samsung galaxy fold z 4 for my work in the hospital.
There are two main things I want to be able to do with it:
1-Utilise portable ultrasound using a Clarius Ultrasound scanner which I have and use with iPhone at moment. Could someone please install this free app from App Store "Clarius Ultrasound App",create a free account and load a virtual scanner"demo" in the app and send screenshot in fullscreen mode please of abdominal scan?

I would greatly appreciate it as need to know if it will work for work with the ultrasound scanner I have, You don't need a scanner to view the virtual scanner in the app. the virtual scanner mode is used to show off the scan quality that can be achieved with the device.
I'm concerned I would buy the phone and the image would not work in full screen tablet mode utilising the two screens as one large one to show a larger ultrasound image.
2-Interested in using Microsoft word to annotate daily notes but may just use Galaxy notes.Let me know which is best in terms of handwriting search.
THanks for your help
Here you go.
Interface is a little big but it's working fullscreen.
About the handwriting, Note and Fold use the same system, so you're gonna have exactly the same experience, except with a bigger screen on the Fold, and that you have to keep your S pen in your pocket.

You're welcome !
If your screen is in front of you you don't even see the hinge.
On the side, with a black picture it's barely visible.
Honestly that's really not an issue and you quickly get use to it. The biggest "problem" is with the S pen when you write on it, that's surprising at first.
I come from a Note and I really enjoy it.

I think that will do a great job for keeping in pocket for when need to do quick ultrasound.
I’m Kean to see if will be good for keeping notes on for myself.
Does it search text of pdf in Samsung notes? I know it can search handwritten words and numbers which looks good
Def looks like best contender
Just tried with a pdf and yeah the research is working in the content.
That's great I didn't even know that that's gonna save me a lot of time.
