I bought my tp2 4 months ago (brand new) with winmo 6.1 and immediately upgraded to 6.5. Winmo 6.5 seems to be really slow for me, and I think it's because I don't have a data plan. Anyway, I've tried disabling the data connection in an attempt to speed it up but it doesn't seem to be working.
Are there any ROMs specifically developed for users without a data package?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Zack

hmm...data plan has nothing to do with the speed of your rom
If you're still using official roms, I suggest you try out the custom roms on this forum
I thought it might be laggy if it is trying to connect to the tmobile data network... I've tried to turn it off, but sometimes I see it's still on. Perhaps you're right in that it shouldn't be slowing me down. I don't want anything that will try to autoconnect to the internet- like the Weather app. Any ROM you would recommend? Speed is a primary concern.

You can certainly try turning data off and see what happens
As for roms...they are all very good you should try them all

Actually, if you never use the data connection, you could probably just remove the data settings in the Setup / Connections / Connections / Edit Current settings area. However I'm not sure if that would result in "unable to connect" messages.
But I agree with previous posts, it will not help the speed of your phone.
I'd also suggest unticking any boxes regarding 'auto update' for things like weather, email, twitter etc.
I've never heard of such a ROM.
Have you tried modaco's NoData to disable data connections?

I'm using Schaps 4.30 on my tytn and I've noticed that my 3G connection is connecting automatically at random times, especially through the night, and as far as I can tell no programs are open that would use data. The only thing open is activesync. Then I check my bill to find out that it is in fact sending 1k-300k amounts of data. Since I don't have but a 1meg data plan this is pissing me off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, if you turn off your 3G connection capabilities via the comm manager, it will not only save u battery but none of those random connections will happen either. If u need it on u can easily turn it back on.

Well, sure, I could turn it off at night, I could turn off the whole phone as well. But I'd like to be able to receive my text and multimedia messages.
*edit* The 3G connection itself is not specific to the problem, I just meant a general connection.
Maybe today plugins, like weather, want to update their data? Disable all today plugins and see.

Well SMS and MMS messages can still come thru on Edge...3G is just faster.
You might try this. Got it from here.

Lol, I know messages still come in through Edge, I wasn't meaning to be specific to the 3G connection, just that it's connecting in general.
It did it again last night. I'm going to flash to Schaps 4.31 and see if that helps.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Im assuming you have push mail enabled correct? (or an activesync account somewhere?)
Same Problem
I've got the same problem. I'm using the default HTC WWE ROM. At random times, sometimes twice a day, my "Rogers Internet" data connection (GPRS, EDGE or 3G) connects automatically and doesn't disconnect. If I catch it happening and click cancel, it tries again. It will not give up until the connection has been established for at least 10 seconds.
I've gone through every program I have, checking to make sure the auto update option is disabled (if there is an auto update). I do not use the direct push and therefore, activesync schedule is greyed out.
Any ideas?

AT&T decided that it was my phone and replaced it, sure enough that did the trick. I wouldn't imagine that it's always a hardware issue though, since many people seem to have had this same problem. Simple things like today plugins or maybe just hitting the "X" while signed into MSN Messenger instead of signing out before closing the program. Things like that could contribute to the problem. Hope you're able to get your fixed.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Had the same problems, resulting in extra fast battery drain.
I think I fixed it by flashing a newer radio ROM, but then again my battery still drains very fast since flashing TNT's 6.1 ROM.
Not so sure what's going on...

What version radio are you using?
[Solved]Been awhile since I've been here...Anyways,
Up until maybe a few weeks ago, my data connection has been working 100% fine no matter what ROM I've switched to. Then I somehow hit a roadblock. I hadn't really noticed, but when I wasn't on Wi-Fi, I couldn't connect with any apps to the internet, nor use the browser. My phone shows connection and bars, but it won't actually work. It just tells me there's no data connection available, or whatever depending on the ROM. I thought it might have been a data tower problem, but I had this problem in the Twin Cities, my local township, and throughout Chicago (vacation). All of those locations were supposed to be HSPA+ compatible, and worked prior to now.
To try and fix this, I've flashed my phone to all of my old backups, including my old stock, and data wouldn't work on any of them. I've reverted to MIUI, CM7, and Tmo 2.2.
This makes me think its either the radio (never messed with it before), the SIM card, or some hardware defect of some kind. I've been reading around, and apparently I might also have an APN problem. I've tried looking up how to fix these individually, but I don't want to screw up something that isn't broken. Thoughts, anyone? Currently I'm using MIUI latest, and I used rmk's RIL autopatcher for radio libraries. [Solved]
EDIT: Solved! For others experiencing data connection issues, check with a T-mobile person and ask about your plan.. Apparently they love to switch around plans, and forgot to enable data on my handset. Others have found they were given a different data plan, and needed a different APN. Also, if your plan is fine, Evilcuber was right that different APNs can solve data issues.

I think its an apn problem. Try searching (your carrier) apn settings on google and it will tell you what you need to set for username and password and other stuff

I tried multiple variations of T-mobile APN's, and none of them worked... Just found out my plan got switched, so it might be that also, (I still have unlimited data, messages, 500min voice). EDIT: I was sure the APN edit would work..Darn. Am I missing something here..?

just out of curiosity, is it typical for things to screw up like this when you switch your plan around? i'm thinking of increasing the minutes on my plan and i don't really want to encounter any roadblocks like this with my phone running g-lite.
sorry i couldn't offer any insight into your problem though.
Problem is solved anyways, bro. You should be fine changing plan. Just double-check.

Hello there. If you're gonna change your plan, minutes, data, messages, whatever, see if you can do it at a store. That way you can see what they've changed. I also found out that if they switch up your data and DO enable it, you'll get a message saying they changed it.
I think you'll be fine adding more minutes, just make sure they add the unlimited data, as its optional when switching plans now.
**Baseband I927UCLJ3** sorry if that threw anyone off.
Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has experienced any wifi connectivity issues on the new update.
I dont have any issues connecting to wifi, but for some reason, it wont stay connected for very long. It seems like after I go out of range, it simply wont connect to anything, and I have to manually connect to my network.
The problem is I have been blowing through my data plan, thinking I'm on wifi, since everywhere I go I am normally on wifi. But in actuality, because my phone hasnt been auto connecting to the networks, I have gone through half of my data plan in about a week.
This has only happened since the 2nd release of ICS. The first one work fine for me (expect the black light issue, which I didnt really care that much about).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I believe wifi has nothing to do with baseband. Probably there is something wrong with your phone and the new kernel wifi driver...
I'd try removing the access point and re-creating it, and playing with the advanced wifi settings.
Also, try rebooting the router/wifi access point.

Thanks for the info!!! I looked more closely into the settings and for some reason it was set to turn off wifi when sleeping.
I feel a little stupid, but I'm glad I got it sorted out.
I really appreciate the help.
I've been having data issues that I've addressed in an earlier post but no one's been able to help me, which is understandable, but basically my data gets stuck on the loading screen anytime I try to open a browser tab or app, including the Play Store I've tried everything I can do to fix it but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me out with a reliable solution?? Thanks

What have you done to try to fix it? And what is your current phone setup?
I want to see your results with speedtest. I'd wager you just have a terrible connection.

Which brings the next question.
To OP, is it a noticeable change from previous speeds in the same location? Or are you just not happy with the speeds you have always been getting?
I am currently running the latest RootBox nightly running android 4.2.2 with a custom theme from the Play Store but the rom is not the issue because this problem occurs no matter what rom I'm running. Touchwiz roms minimizes the amount of times this happens but it still does happen.. I've tried just about every troubleshooting step in trying to fix it including flashing/testing different radios, changing my T-Mobile APNs, reflashing the rom, flashing back to complete stock and doing the whole process all over again, etc.. Nothing seems to fix these data issues. And I don't have a terrible connection. It's not necessarily the best but it's not terrible and I know that because SOMETIMES a reboot would fix it and I would get my normal down/up speeds back but when my data gets stuck I can't even perform a speed test because it fails to search for a server.

As long as your speeds are consistent, you don't have an issue. Every samsung phone I have owned has had the data "hang" annoyance. It will flash the upload arrow, but not download. Usually I just toggle data and it is back to normal.
Yeah my data signal always appears as if it's working but all it does is as you said, HANG. I have to constantly toggle data on/off until it starts working but like I said within a matter of minutes it continues to hang.. It is very irritating, not to mention how I can only take advantage of it for maybe 10 minutes? before the issue progresses. This did not happen before. My data would always stick but now? No matter where I am this issue always happens. If you have any other ideas or advice I'd greatly appreciate it but regardless thank you very much for your assistance.

I've been experiencing the "data hang" for the past 2 or 3 days.. It's definitely the T-Mo network
Yep.. confirmed. It's T-Mo, probably because they launched the new pre-paid plan and they are going to be doing "network management" supposedly to give better access to us contract customers (pre-paid gets slower speeds depending on the amount you pay)
They're probably implementing the new speed governing system and that's why it's all jacked up
Incidentally, I found a awesome resource to use when we are questioning the network:

I dont think tmobiles website has anything to do with "questioning the network". It's quite seperate. Isitdownrightnow only checks websites if they are offline/online, not mobile 4g networks. This is what i assume
You know, you're right.. weird though that their website shows difficulties when they're network was having issues.
I have a new LG G3 I bought last month from Woot.
Its my first time using FreedomPop as a provider coming from my Boost G3
Not used phone much but every time i do it keeps getting disconnected for my WiFi whaich had no problems with my Boost setup.
After reading some other thread I found I tried all those fixes to no avail.
I really need to get this phone to stay connected to my WiFi as FreedomPop relies on it greatly as in I cant use the free plan as I been eating up too much of the 500mb of data allowed.
Those are added reasons for me to use my WiFi connection as much as possible.
One thing I notice is when WiFi is working is it looks like a ! added to my wifi icon and assuming that showing a problem but no clue what it is.
So after 5 or 10 mins wifi icon gone I go to settings wifi it shows wifi disconnected. I re enable it wash rise repeat. Any help be great TIA!
Heres a google with some of the fixes I tried which did not help....

I did seemingly fix the problem at least for now as this problem seems to come and go as I dont use phone that often and only then I see problem is there.
I had to reset my phone which I am not sure if this method works for other carriers than FreedomPop but I think it does.

The problem is back phone will disconnects after a few mins after connecting and watching phone disconnect.
What different this time around is I wanted to turn off my data connection as I kept getting huge data downloads that I been trying to avoid so I can see if I can use the FreedomPop free services which consist of 500mb of data and 500 messages and 200 minutes of talk time.
My old Boost phone never used much data at all so know it was working fine with that setup as I am alaways connected to my own WiFi and only time I would need to use data is when I go to Drs office once a month.
I should be able to make this all work fine for my situation if I can stay hooked up to my WiFi but its pretty annoying and wasting my data when it wont stay connected .
