Hi,
Im currently in the process of setting up Mail2web mainly for the purpose of having email "pushed" to me.
When its all up and running mail will be "pushed" to me automatically via GPRS obviously at a cost to myself for the data. What happens if i'm in range of a Wi-Fi connection, can the mail then be "pushed" via the Wi-Fi connection. If so, whats the process of switching between GPRS/Wi-Fi for the purpose of "pushed" mail from mail2web. Is it as simple as turning the GPRS off while in range of a Wi-Fi connection or will it default to Wi-Fi when in range.
I think this is a stupid question (but i'll ask it anyway). To get "push" mail working correctly I assume that both the device and email provider need to support it? I couldn't get my XDA to receive "push" from a any email provider...........sorry this is all new to me!!
Rob.
Hello
I didn't find any info this kind of problem what i have after updating mobile 6.
So i have email account on internet and i can receive mails to my tytn but cannot send any mail. i also try to start internet share and send mail with my computer but i get error what says "cannot connect smtp server" what the hell is wrong.
If i connect normaly my tytn to active sync i can send mails and receive mails with same setting thru my DSL. But with 3G or GPRS i cannot send mail. everything else is working and has been working before update to wm6.

What SMTP server are you using?
You should be using the one from your internet provider, which - when
using your mobile phone as internet acces device - is your mobile
operator.

I use my DSL internet provider mail service, It has been working exatly with same settings before, and now i'm able to receive all mails from imap.netikka.net mail server but cannot send email outgoing SMTP server "mail.netikka.fi"
I can send and receive emails with my computer thru DSL normaly so that mail server should be ok. Something has to be wrong in wm6 settings some security problem maby.
The mail server is ok, but quite often one cannot access an smtp server
from outside the providers' network (sometimes access is possible from
outside with a logon and a password). This is a common security measure to
avoid their mailservers being used for spam.
So if you connect via a provider A, you can fetch mail from anywhere, but
you should send mails via the smtp server provider A has (regardless of
where your mail comes from). If you then connect via a provider B, you can
again fetch your mails from anywhere, but you cannot use the smtp server
of provider A; you need the one provider B has.
Try first using the smtp server from your mobile provider, if that doesn't
work it is indeed something in wm6.

Thanks for info, I set now my phone operator outgoing smtp server address and now mails are going out also.
So case closed.

Actually, the smtp stuff gives rise a problem I also want to warn you for... If you connect to multiple networks with your TyTN (e.g. wifi and 3G), you basically would want to be able to change the smtp server to suit your needs (e.g. on wifi you need the smtp server of your dsl provider, on 3G the one of your mobile provider). There is no mechanism foreseen in Messaging to achieve this.
As a workaround, I duplicate my mail accounts, but with different outgoing settings (most just go back 3 days or so): i have for instance "mymailbox (provider one)" and "mymailbox (provider 2)". Depending on the network via which I connect, I need to select the appropriate mailbox before choosing "new" or "reply". This way, the correct smtp server is used when I send a mail. It is not an elegant solution, but I haven't found another way. If you have an smtp server that requires you to log on to send mails, chances are you can access that one from anywhere.

Yes i have now that problem that in 3g network mail goes out but not my DSL wifi but i can live with that. But still it is quite weird that with WM5 my DSL provider smtp server works even 3g and wifi but not with WM6.
If you can log on to the smtp server, it could be possible to use it regardless of your connection.
Perhaps you can test it when you use your laptop to send emails, but connect via your mobile operator to internet. If that works, it ought to work with wm6;
but I doubt it to be possible without logon.

Agreed this is a flaw in WM6, shoul be possible to quickly toggle between different settings for SMTP.
I have the same problem, two years ago this was not an issue I could then use the smtp settings from our domain on phone and in office (dsl), this no longer works even with the DSL connection in the office we have to use smtp of the internet provider.
hey guys.
i have a million questions but i'll restrict this post to two for now.
a little back up...i have my evo unlocked and rooted on AVA Froyo V6 on MetroPCS' network. i have their $50 smart phone plan which has push email. this feature worked great on my samsung code from metro.
now on to the issues
first and most annoying - using the stock internet browser, while WIFI is OFF i can browse using MetroPCS data network. it works well and at their speeds. if i turn on wifi, no matter where, both the stock internet browser and skyfire suddenly start giving connection errors. if i turn off wifi they go back to working but on the data network. while these two arent working, market works, pandora, facebook, weather, etc. all apps work on wifi except those two internet browsers. i should also mention opera mobile WORKS. not SKYFIRE and not the default browser - which I happen to like more than the other two!
any ideas why? what can i do to fix this?
second and also annoying - the email app SUCKS. i use Hotmail for everything. i have my gmail account forwarding there, my university account forwarding there, my website accounts forwarding there. everything ends in my hotmail account. with my previous phone (samsung code running windows mobile 6.1) i had push email working wondefully and i got used to that. i know the network has the capacity to do it. i also know it's not a problem with the network and this phone, as the email app will download the emails when it feels like it. but then if i read the email or delete the email on the phone, it doesnt do so in the server even though I have it set to do it. also when I go in and click refresh it will tell me there arent any new emails when I know there are...and then when it feels like it later it downloads the email.
is there a program, whether free or paid, that will let me have proper push email with my hotmail account? i dont need any computer sync, just download my email on the fly, preferably as they arrive.
thanks much in advance!
if i can get those two issues worked out my EVO experience will be completely blissful
for your first question i dont have an answer.
for your second question have you tried k9 mail? It works for me doing something similar. I use yahoo and not hotmail but similar set up with all mails coming to that 1 email and it pushes them as i get them and dont normally have any issues with this. It also removes them jsut fine from yahoo.
i installed K9 and it's doing things well with one major issue...which i've now come to realize is the same issue affecting the stock mail app.
the phone can't connect to HOTMAIL's outgoing server. so it downloads the emails as they arrive and i can open them and what not. but if i read them, or delete them, it doesn't update them in the server. it also wont let me send an email out, saying the SMTP settings are wrong, even though it's setting them automatically. so all of these issues are because the phone is not connecting to the outgoing server!
what now?

anyone have any idea on the internet with wifi issue?

Hi guys,
I am a problem with ActiveSync not working over WiFi yet working fine over 3g/4g. It works sometimes over wifi but invariably i get the authentication error which eventually will either clear on its own or i can just keep entering the sync settings over and over again and eventually it will work.
I have enabled background data, turned off the wfi sleep policy and disabled any battery-saver programs that might be turning it off... but whenever wifi is on (and connected) i get this sync issue.
mind you this is only in the stock mail app and only with gmail as an exchange account.
Here is why i have it set up that way: i don't want to have to use 2 email apps for my gmail and for my work exchange server.
I can't get K9 to work with my work exchange but frustratingly it works fine for Gmail. And obviously I can use non-gmail boxes with the gmail app which also works great.
am i just trying to have my cake and eat it too?
I am having issues with Gmail doing background sync over Wi-Fi. As soon I turn Wi-Fi ON Gmail clent stopped doing back ground sync. No issues if I am on T-Mobile data network. Hotmail and other mails are syncing fine. Even I did the master reset on the phone and no luck. I can do a manual refresh and Gmail will sync so Wi-Fi connection is fine.

in my, work well:silly:
It seems to that I have that issue only when I am connected with Netgear R6300 router. Internet browsing and rest works but no background sync of gmail. Weird.
