Flash Player 10.1 for Android is out!!! - Desire General

Well, .. almost .... its Beta, sign up for a spin
http://www.gsmarena.com/flash_playe...private_beta_sign_up_for_a_spin-news-1587.php

Is there a beta version for the desire? I've only heard mention of the Nexus 1 and some Motorola phone.
Also, does this enable us to listen to radio shows using the bbc iplayer website? (The only radio beebplayer supports is live radio.)

Subscribed, nice find!

How do you get access to the private beta???

Register on the main Adobe.com site and then you can sign up to be on the beta when it's released...

Anyone who can get this site to work on our WM6 Hermes?

Hi all,
First off, check out this site I was turned on to
(Go to it on a PC though to see how it works...)
www.tv-links.co.uk
It's a TON of tv shows/movies that you can stream for free.
Click on a show... any show, and see how it opens a new IE window and streams. This is where I'm a little hazy on what's happening. I'm not sure what's going on "Html-code-wise" to know why it won't work on my Tytn.
I've tried PIE and Opera, and set them both to be recognized as a desktop, but nothing will stream the content. It does open a new window, but then nothing happens. I'm doing this over HSDPA so I don't think speed is the issue at all.
This would be a great site to be able to get to our Tytn's. Can anyone figure out how to do it, or at least tell me what is happening that is not yet supported by mobile browsers?
the flash player in WM6 is not the full fledged desktop application to my knowledge. this website utilizes some Flash 9 components that just aren't in the mobile version. (again, to my knowledge).

And this is truly a shame. I had tried months ago to view ComedyCentral's Jon Stewart clips, to no avail...for the same reason.
I wonder how long it's going to take for Adobe to give us something for WM devices that works with the new security features they've built into the newer desktop versions.

Thank you VERY MUCH! I hope this works, Diem! If it does, I owe you a beer or two.

[UPDATE] OK, I installed the Flash Player Mobile app this morning, and have tried to view the ComedyCentral videos. FWIW, I still cannot view them. The site still comes up only with links to upgrade my Flash Player wherever a link to a video should be. There does not seem to be any way to DL the flash files to play them locally.
Maybe I'll browse through that second URL left by Diem, and see if I can find anything there that works.
FWIW, I left a Q with Comedy Central, explaining the issue and asking if they would/could do anything to support us users with WM devices ... maybe provide an alternative media format that will work with our devices. I'll post back to this thread if/when I hear back from them.
Also FWIW, I did NOT try to view the URL provided by the OP ... so maybe he's finding success with this app.
Sorry Diem ... no beers for you yet [/UPDATE]
so I am to understand that the flash player that comes with WM6 now is the Macromedia (Adobe) Flash ActiveX 7.0 for Pocket PC, and this mobile version does not rely on ActiveX?
Dont ask me nothing I'm just waiting for a sweet cold Heiniken

Ahhhh, but THAT deal was only good if I got to view Jon on my Hermes. As it didn't work, you'll have to be happy with H2O
So if you want a glass, come on over, I've got a whole tapful
Seriously, I wish Adobe would catch us up with their desktop offerings, or some of these video sites would post in a format we could use.
Oh well ... it is what it is. I've already got plenty of other stuff that works fine, and keeps me using my device for more hours in the day than is good for me.
-pvs
I don't think the videos shown on the tv links site that I posted have anything to do with Flash. Dapzmob was probably the closest by calling Divx. Hope you guys figure out your Jon Stewart stuff nonetheless.
In anyone knows of a player that can play Divx AND integrates with PIE through a plugin, please let me know!

Windows Phone 7 Owners Q & A Thread

Theres a few people on the forum with the device already so if its not too much of a hassle for your guys can you give us some insight on the devices .
i've got a couple of questions, for those with it. Can you guys test downloading a mp3 through the browser
can u go to this link and dl the mp3 on the phones browser to see if it adds to ur music library http://bit.ly/b1iS0C
i just would like to know how it handles downloading music or any other files thru the web browser, does it let u manage the picture or mp3 and let u add it to ur library on the phone (without using a computer)
I am interested in knowing this as well.
I think that music cannot be downloaded via the browser as I don't think users are allowed to access the file system.

Well i asked someone on twitter who had access to a test unit and he said it saves from the browser and plays but was unable to add it to the library or atleast he didnt know how to. But maybe all this has changed in the release build of wp7
Just streams the file. Cannot see an option to save it.
I do hope we're able to download stuff to our phones. It would be silly to not have that as an option.

I think leaving Flash would be a good idea and go the same that Apples going as I think flash is messy and buggy.
HTML5 will be the way forward, however if users NEED flash then hopefully they will make it optional.

Hidden WiFi? No problem there is an App for that.

HTC has relased an app in the marketplace called Hidden Wifi, it will allow you to add a name of a hidden SSID so that your WiFi will connect to it.
This worked perfectly on my HTC Arrive, some users report it doesn't work.

Yeah it was annoying the crap out of me as well, I have my home WiFi hidden. I was getting tired of unhidding it, then later hidding it again. I think the program allows you to name 3 hidden networks, but it works great for me.
Some others are reporting an error and they need to update software, thinking it may be an HTC only thing, so someone hopefully can do something similar for the other devices.
I want it on Omnia 7!
it is not working on my htc hd7 is requesting me to update my wifi software
i hope htc is fully aware of this
I have a tmous hd7 and I'm getting the same message as sunny.

in response to this. HTC also update its connection setup app yesterday.
Gotta love HTC
I would love to try this on my LG Quantum if someone could get the .xap
It just gets better!
HTC really made helpful utilities.
Is there a way to download the app on an locked HD7 phone?
On marketplace I can't find the app, but under HTC hub the hidden Wifi show's up.
when i click on the icon the discription with the commands like in market place opens but the button to download/install isn't availabel.
I'm sure that all updates are installed on my phone and I also try to flash a NoDo rom by ansar to get also latest available Radio & Bootloader versions on my phone.
After installing the rom the latest updete to 7392 pop up and is installed.
But the download of Hiddn Wifi is not possible.

If you want an update iPlayer app, contact the BBC here

I use it. Well, *used* it. It's not perfect, but I love using it. I just emailed the BBC and I hope others can too because without people requesting stuff, the BBC can be as slow as a very slow thing in quick sand.

There are quite a few apps which are waiting on adobe to pull their finger out.
I'll have a moan at the bbc anyway see if it helps grease the wheels a bit.

D'oh. You're both right! I was thinking the app didn't need it but the mobile version of the iPlayer did. The app does indeed need flash.
Ok, on to Adobe to hurry up!
EDIT: Though thinking about it some more, they will need to do a Flash-free version anyway. iOS has an iPlayer. So we still need to give them a friendly nudge not to wait on the final big Flash release.
Had a reply back from Auntie Beeb, she says that Adobe need to authorise the device for Flash then the app will work. So as we thought, flash problem.
Getting flash will release a lot of apps, I am guessing.

BTW... this is exactly what they said....
Hello,
Thanks for your feedback.
Until Adobe support Flash on ICS, we can't update the apps to work on
these device as our playback relies on Flash. Even if we enabled the
apps for ICS, a user would need Flash to make them work and Adobe blocks
Flash on the market for these devices.
Regards,
BBC Mobile
Just check my mail. I got exactly the same response. Word for word. I think the Flash is used for DRM stuff which may, may, be why Android gets live streaming content and iOS doesn't.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Since flash is being abandon (Apple, and now android), BBC must have got something else in the pipe line - perhaps html5?
Does anyone have an iplayer apk that we can try, now that Flash is running on ICS?
As you can now get iplayer for the iphone as well which of course does not use flash then hopefully we will get a version which will use other codecs so that flash is no longer needed to use the app.

Thanks for contacting the BBC iPlayer Support Team.
I understand you're enquiring about when the BBC iPlayer App will be available for Android Galaxy Nexus mobile phone device.
The BBC want to bring BBC iPlayer to as many audiences as possible, across a range of devices.
However, we don't have any information about this at this time, I would advise you to get in contact with the manufacturers directly.
I hope this helps and thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

will this work in the U.S.??
I think it'll be IP-locked to only work in the UK. I'm not paying £130 a year for the BBC so people in the US can watch Doctor Who.
Just installing the apk doesn't make it work in the US. You'd need to do some work around I'd suspect with your IP etc....

If you subscribe to a VPN service you'll effectively have a UK IP address. I've done this on a PC from New Zealand to the UK and iPlayer works fine. As an aside to naysayers, I pay my UK license fee but feel the BBC should allow my access from anywhere.
PureVPN has an app that allows subscribers a fast setup on Android and is recommended.

Yep. Install the BBC media player and the iPlayer APK (I installed the media player after when I got a message in the iPlayer).
You will need a VPN as well to reassign you IP to the UK. I use Private Internet Access which I got on a Black Friday deal for $35 a year. It also lets me watch US/UK Netflix shows when you're in the other location. Because the traffic is encrypted you can also safely browse untrusted internet connections like airports and cafes. Well worth the money IMO.
