Windows Phone 7 Owners Q & A Thread - Windows Phone 7 General

Theres a few people on the forum with the device already so if its not too much of a hassle for your guys can you give us some insight on the devices .
i've got a couple of questions, for those with it. Can you guys test downloading a mp3 through the browser
can u go to this link and dl the mp3 on the phones browser to see if it adds to ur music library http://bit.ly/b1iS0C
i just would like to know how it handles downloading music or any other files thru the web browser, does it let u manage the picture or mp3 and let u add it to ur library on the phone (without using a computer)

I am interested in knowing this as well.

I think that music cannot be downloaded via the browser as I don't think users are allowed to access the file system.

Well i asked someone on twitter who had access to a test unit and he said it saves from the browser and plays but was unable to add it to the library or atleast he didnt know how to. But maybe all this has changed in the release build of wp7

Just streams the file. Cannot see an option to save it.

I do hope we're able to download stuff to our phones. It would be silly to not have that as an option.

Can anyone confirm how downloads via IE work?

Can the browser stream any mobile videos or just YouTube vids?

Just youtube vids. But it is not working for most websites with embedded youtube vids.
m.youtube.com works.
www.youtube.com will have a upgrade your flash player msg.
MS needs to fix this soon!

I'm sure Adobe will release Flash 10.1 for WP7 soon. They don't want everyone complaining that XVideos.com wont work, lol

That's interesting since microsoft claimed they want to stay away from activex and seeing how they brought almost desktop ie to the os if they were support adobe flash that means activex will be introduced, well good luck with that

Surely users are able to manage the space where their music is stored? (Much like they can do with photos) How else would you load songs onto your phone from Zune?

I think leaving Flash would be a good idea and go the same that Apples going as I think flash is messy and buggy.
HTML5 will be the way forward, however if users NEED flash then hopefully they will make it optional.

Anyone who can get this site to work on our WM6 Hermes?

Hi all,
First off, check out this site I was turned on to
(Go to it on a PC though to see how it works...)
www.tv-links.co.uk
It's a TON of tv shows/movies that you can stream for free.
Click on a show... any show, and see how it opens a new IE window and streams. This is where I'm a little hazy on what's happening. I'm not sure what's going on "Html-code-wise" to know why it won't work on my Tytn.
I've tried PIE and Opera, and set them both to be recognized as a desktop, but nothing will stream the content. It does open a new window, but then nothing happens. I'm doing this over HSDPA so I don't think speed is the issue at all.
This would be a great site to be able to get to our Tytn's. Can anyone figure out how to do it, or at least tell me what is happening that is not yet supported by mobile browsers?
the flash player in WM6 is not the full fledged desktop application to my knowledge. this website utilizes some Flash 9 components that just aren't in the mobile version. (again, to my knowledge).

And this is truly a shame. I had tried months ago to view ComedyCentral's Jon Stewart clips, to no avail...for the same reason.
I wonder how long it's going to take for Adobe to give us something for WM devices that works with the new security features they've built into the newer desktop versions.

[UPDATE] OK, I installed the Flash Player Mobile app this morning, and have tried to view the ComedyCentral videos. FWIW, I still cannot view them. The site still comes up only with links to upgrade my Flash Player wherever a link to a video should be. There does not seem to be any way to DL the flash files to play them locally.
Maybe I'll browse through that second URL left by Diem, and see if I can find anything there that works.
FWIW, I left a Q with Comedy Central, explaining the issue and asking if they would/could do anything to support us users with WM devices ... maybe provide an alternative media format that will work with our devices. I'll post back to this thread if/when I hear back from them.
Also FWIW, I did NOT try to view the URL provided by the OP ... so maybe he's finding success with this app.
Sorry Diem ... no beers for you yet [/UPDATE]
so I am to understand that the flash player that comes with WM6 now is the Macromedia (Adobe) Flash ActiveX 7.0 for Pocket PC, and this mobile version does not rely on ActiveX?
Dont ask me nothing I'm just waiting for a sweet cold Heiniken

Ahhhh, but THAT deal was only good if I got to view Jon on my Hermes. As it didn't work, you'll have to be happy with H2O
So if you want a glass, come on over, I've got a whole tapful
Seriously, I wish Adobe would catch us up with their desktop offerings, or some of these video sites would post in a format we could use.
Oh well ... it is what it is. I've already got plenty of other stuff that works fine, and keeps me using my device for more hours in the day than is good for me.
-pvs
I don't think the videos shown on the tv links site that I posted have anything to do with Flash. Dapzmob was probably the closest by calling Divx. Hope you guys figure out your Jon Stewart stuff nonetheless.
In anyone knows of a player that can play Divx AND integrates with PIE through a plugin, please let me know!

YouTube app?

Is there an app with integrated browsing and playing of YouTube videos for the Excalibur? Something like the one that comes with the iPhone and T-Mobile G1?
I did have something set up before with TCPMP and some kind of IE plugin, but it just really isn't ideal and was prone to errors. I know I've seen integrated browser/players for touch screen WinMo phones, but I've never seen anything for WinMo Standard.

These are the worst answers I've ever seen. Obviously the OP is asking if it is possible to SYNC windows media player with the device.
So, OP, yes you can sync WMP with the EVO. You don't need iTunes or anything. When you sync WMP with the phone, then all your music shows up in the music app.
You can't sync videos, but it's easy to just place them on the phone using your phone as a hard drive.

Why WP7 broswer > iOS browser

I never realized this but you can actually click on the "browse" button on web pages and it takes you to the picture hub to attach photos. You can't do this on iOS devices which is stupid.
With GPU accelerated IE9, WP7 will soon have the best mobile browser available!
one thing that i dont like about iphone browser is when you got to other tab, then after few minutes when you go back, the page will load again.
Sorry, what "browse" button are you talking about?
You know when you want to upload something on a website. That button.
Indeed, I didn't even try that assuming that iy wouldn't work. It does, however.
I do love these little gems that people are uncovering and sharing. There is so much to WP7!

Yeah, the WP7 browser is sweet. I have all 3 popular systems, iOS4, WP7 and Android, and IE is the nicest of them. However, I would like to see web pages adjust to frame size like the Android browser does... zooming in or out, the content adjusts to maintain full view rather than needing to scroll side to side to read it in portrait mode.
Huh?

Well hes talking about that browse feature where you can locate the picture or watevr via a file manager or an app
can one of u guys with windows phone 7 go to depositfiles.com and see if it lets u upload a mp3 to that site since you guys say the browse button works with pictures but does it work with other file types on the phone like mp3s?
For example go to photofunia.com proceed to make a custom pic and you'll see what the man means (I really gotta change this Android avatar lol)

I highlighted the "Browse" button there. When you want to upload an image, you need to pick it on your device. iOS doesn't let you do that.

There's no way you'll be able to upload mp3s anywhere from WP7.
At this time it only lets you upload images. Maybe this will be extended to other OS "libraries" such as Office documents, but I can bet money it won't let you upload music without some hacking.

I'd rather they improve what they're doing now, resizing text to fit their frames, so you can read posts at a smaller zoom level.
After using android for a while I hated the reformatting it does, you end up having text breaking the flow of the website or a news post with an image that is so big it spans past your screen size just because the text reformatted to fit and it zoomed in way too much.
I find the iOS and WP7 browsers to be pretty smart in detecting what part of the website you want to read and resizing that text so you don't have to pinch or even double tap sometimes in order to read.

why is it that it will let u upload and download pictures from the browser? why wont it let u download a mp3 or a zip or rar file thru the browser? ive used a phone in the store and tried to download a mp3 it played the mp3 when i hit save to download it and it wouldnt add it to my library there has to be some where that its temporarily stored on the phone i wonder if theres a way to get it and save it to the library without using the computer
I think that's because 99.999% of all cases where users would upload mp3s to web sites would be for illegal sharing.
That's just my guess, though, and please don't argue with me about it.

No need to be so defensive. I tried to help you get rid of both the adverts which are annoying you and the horror that is Internet Explorer. Plus, if you have an Android phone (chances are you do, being on XDA) Google is already 'watching you', and far better on your phone with all of the location data and stuff than on your PC . Speaking of Android, using Chrome would give you much better integration with your phone (again, if you have an Android phone)
