Ive tried both facebook and Gmap, it says "update available" and when i upgrade them, its like new install, it takes me 3/4megas of memory space ...its a lot for an upgrade !
Both GMail and Facebook are installed to the system folder, which is read-only, so when you install the upgrade, it has to leave the old one in /system and install yours in (I believe) /data.
The OS only shows the new one, but the old one is still there. Only applies to upgrades for apps that came with the ROM.

Hello, i have checked the forum but i found nothing about this problem.
After the update i have a file "com.htc 2.1-update1" on my phone, it is 18.774Kb size, and now i run out of memory.
Can i delete it without remove the last update ? I think the update is in rom now, this is only a cache file ?
deleting a 18kb file will barely do anything to your memory why is it so vital to delete this?
if you've run out of memory then uninstall some apps or use aps2sd
i think that's 18mb not 18kb..
sorry it is 18774Kb = 18Mb
i have 2 file, this one and "system Android 2.1-update1" 5182Kb
I can see they only with "Uninstaller" program.
I don't want root it now, i am waiting froyo.
Does anyone know if there's any answer re. this query? I've also got both "com.htc 2.1-update1" (18MB) and "Android System 2.1-update1" (5MB) listed in Uninstaller - the latter sounds like the actual installed update, is there any chance of being able to uninstall the former? (am hoping someone has given in a shot already!)

Hi all!
First of all - I'm not very fluent in the rom/flash related language, so it's quite possible that this is covered somewhere already - sorry for that...
I've been thinking about this thing with the limited internal space we have on our phones for installing apps, and how the phone handles updates.
As it is now an updated version of one of the "factory installed" apps we have in our phones (google maps, flash, gmail, youtube= almost 30MB) gets installed in the space we have internally for whatever extra stuff we download and install. And even if we do the App2SD that comes with Froyo or apply the App2sd patch we still see our internal space shrink.
So - my question is - is there any way of replacing outdated apps in the ROM-file (I'm not completely confident in the language here... sorry for that and hope you'll understand anyway) instead of getting them placed in our "dedicated" storage? I'm looking at about 9mb's of google maps, 12 mb of flash, 4,5 mb of gmail and with the latest youtube update I'm wondering why I can't put them in another place? Especially since I suppose that the "originals" still occupy this space in their installed location...
Is it as easy as downloading the ROM, and replacing the apk's (do I need new .odx files to?) and then flashing it, or is it more complicated than that?
Or how would I do this?

your kinda right, it cant be done with flash as it need all the libary files installed, but if you get the latest apk's for google maps & gmail and push them to the system partition they will work, but it wont gain you any space, especially if your using apps2sd. the apps are still going to store all there data in /data/data/ which is where all your internal space is going.
Ok... but if the applications still store their stuff in the same place, how can it be that an update of flash suddenly occupies 12+ mb's more? Is the change from one version to another really that big?
Sorry if I'm being a bit silly here... I just can't seem to be able to wrap my head around this...
hi, if I apply the ota from the SD as is described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10223288&postcount=3
the DHD will lose all app/data/contacts ?
this is not for me since I'm already in 1.72, my friend don't care about root but they have a exchange activesync connection problem with 1.32
I don't have this problem with 1.72
thanks
Everything that is on the handset will be lost.
Contacts should be sync'd with Google, double check first.
Paid Apps can be downloaded again free of charge.
It's only really settings that will have to be individually re-set.
are you sure since it's not the 280mb full "RUU/rom" but the 40mb ota file ?
thanks anyway.
A few months ago, I downloaded an OTA (about 37.7Mb) to my SD Card for the 1.84blahblah firmware update ("Arabic Support" etc) and applied/installed it later on with no loss of anything whatsoever.
Not sure what andyharney means...
Going from 1.32 to 1.72 will erase everything on the handset. That's what I mean.
Everything that is not on the handset, contacts, access to your paid apps etc... Will not be lost.
I have made a try but the update don't start, I have this error just after the triangle with a exclamation mark ! (the step 6 on the linked post on my first msg)
E: can't find cache/recovery/command (or can't open cache/recovery/command I'm not sure sorry)
if I do Apply sdcard:update.zip the same error came
any advice ?
No tips / hints about this error message ?

Hi,
2 question if anyone doesn't mind anwsering.
As I understand the DHD has 1.5GB of internal memory. I'm runing ARHD 3.3 with no extra apps isntalled and my availible space is only 0.93GB. Where did 1/3 go? When I was running stock I think I remember having about 1.3GB
Second, it is very anoying seeing all those facebook contacts clutering people I actually know, and I actually can't seem to figure out how to remove them!!
Thanks for anwsering!
Maybe the ROM was token that memory. And for facebook contacts just go people-menu-view, and check what you need.

do you want to remove all the facebook contacts or just a few?
you can remove the data and re sync with facebook for htc sense to just sync cntacts
to do this you go to application manager and choose all
scroll down to facebook for htc sense then clear data
open facbook app and re sync
Storage issue:
It is possible that you have back-up, say, your stock ROM and that takes up the space of your internal storage. If you delete the back-up at ROM Manager itself or any file explorer you will notice that the storage will be freed once again. [Think carefully before you delete them, you may want to keep the stock ROM if whatever purpose in future(if any). Lol.]
Facebook contact issue:
Facebook contact you can remove them by signing out from Facebook and then sign in again, and you may wish to "Don't Sync" them. As a result those contact in your Facebook account will not appear in People app.
Cheers. =)
one more
Huge thanks! Everyone!
Yes I had 3 backups! Guess that was what was hogging my internal.
Facebook fix worked
Got another issue today, lol
I reflashed another ROM today and as soon as I logged into my Google and Sense account it reinstalled (restored) about 30 apps from my old ROM, which I don't want . I uninstalled them all, but when I went into Android Market they were still under "installed" and again I can't figure out how to remove them. Now everytime I try to flash a new ROM and sign in with my account it restores all those apps. Not signing into my account works though. How do I remove them, when I flash a new ROM I want it to be fresh, not cluttered with stuff (Kinda like fresh Windows install )
Any thoughts?
Did you do a full wipe when installing the ROM? It shouldn't reinstall the apps then, although any paid for apps will appear in your market by default but not installed.
Yes, I did a full wipe
Even when uninstalling them, they still appear as "installed" in market.
I still haven't been able to figure this out.
Every time I reinstall a ROM/Reset phone and sign in with my account it reloads 30 apps for whatever reason.
I've tried with another Google account (or w/o signing in) and those damn apps didn't install then.
Uninstalling apps doesn't even put them of the "my apps" list.
I somewhat suspect Titanium backup is causing these issues. Under settings I checked "remove market entry" in freezer and un-installer settings, and it still loads those apps. I also tried completly formating my SD card.
Any thoughts, guides,... whatever
The applications are installed because Android Market uses your google account to identify you and keeps a list of apps that you have installed. (Go to Android Market, login with your google account, choose "My Market Account" on the top of the page) This is to help users restoring their apps after an update. The list isn't always up to date though.
To avoid installing the apps after flashing a new rom, skip adding your google account until you go to Settings -> Privacy and uncheck Automatic restore. This should do the trick.
And the uninstalled apps will disappear from My apps in the market after a while.
What backup u deleted and how u deleted that backup,do u checked available internal memory after deleting back up.pls reply i am having same problem
Hi,
I tried to install Angry Birds Space last week, the download and installation seemed to complete normally, however once the installation was complete the app wasn't present and the memory the game uses (~24mb) was gone. I tried again the day after and the same thing happened. So I'm now down 48mb of RAM and my phone has started to freeze as there's only ~ 1mb of RAM free. I tried to uninstall the apps in the Manage Applications section but they don't seem to be listed there. Is there anyway I can find where these files are stored and delete them? I've already had to do a factory reset on my Desire twice in the 21 months I have it, I don't particularly want to do it again.
Thanks!
it happened to me too, are still with stock 2.3 (or 2.2) rom?
Best thing I could do was root and flash another rom, and it's really worthed
I'm still on 2.2. Did the same thing happen to you with Angry Birds Space or just in general?
No, I cannot rememeber what I was triyng to install (it was in dec!), and surely, that time, I had just applied the 2.3 offical update for desire (which btw is really awful).
Another thing you can do of course is uninstalling most of your app so that you sort of "clean" your memory, checking if any folder related to these app is really deleted from your sd (you can check in the system directory too, but I don't think you can delete folders without superuser permission). Then try to re-install everything.
Anyway, the suggestion is still the same: try a new rom
You probably just have to clear the cache of the market app, or you can use something like this to clear the cache of all apps
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.cache
If that doesn't work you can try to clear /data/local/download, that's where the market stores its downloads IIRC (don't know if you can clear it without root though)
Had the same problem. (Not with the same app as you have) but clearing the market cache did the trick for me
