[Q] Internal memory and contacts - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
2 question if anyone doesn't mind anwsering.
As I understand the DHD has 1.5GB of internal memory. I'm runing ARHD 3.3 with no extra apps isntalled and my availible space is only 0.93GB. Where did 1/3 go? When I was running stock I think I remember having about 1.3GB
Second, it is very anoying seeing all those facebook contacts clutering people I actually know, and I actually can't seem to figure out how to remove them!!
Thanks for anwsering!

Maybe the ROM was token that memory. And for facebook contacts just go people-menu-view, and check what you need.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

do you want to remove all the facebook contacts or just a few?
you can remove the data and re sync with facebook for htc sense to just sync cntacts
to do this you go to application manager and choose all
scroll down to facebook for htc sense then clear data
open facbook app and re sync

Storage issue:
It is possible that you have back-up, say, your stock ROM and that takes up the space of your internal storage. If you delete the back-up at ROM Manager itself or any file explorer you will notice that the storage will be freed once again. [Think carefully before you delete them, you may want to keep the stock ROM if whatever purpose in future(if any). Lol.]
Facebook contact issue:
Facebook contact you can remove them by signing out from Facebook and then sign in again, and you may wish to "Don't Sync" them. As a result those contact in your Facebook account will not appear in People app.
Cheers. =)

Huge thanks! Everyone!
Yes I had 3 backups! Guess that was what was hogging my internal.
Facebook fix worked
Got another issue today, lol
I reflashed another ROM today and as soon as I logged into my Google and Sense account it reinstalled (restored) about 30 apps from my old ROM, which I don't want . I uninstalled them all, but when I went into Android Market they were still under "installed" and again I can't figure out how to remove them. Now everytime I try to flash a new ROM and sign in with my account it restores all those apps. Not signing into my account works though. How do I remove them, when I flash a new ROM I want it to be fresh, not cluttered with stuff (Kinda like fresh Windows install )
Any thoughts?

Did you do a full wipe when installing the ROM? It shouldn't reinstall the apps then, although any paid for apps will appear in your market by default but not installed.

Yes, I did a full wipe
Even when uninstalling them, they still appear as "installed" in market.

I still haven't been able to figure this out.
Every time I reinstall a ROM/Reset phone and sign in with my account it reloads 30 apps for whatever reason.
I've tried with another Google account (or w/o signing in) and those damn apps didn't install then.
Uninstalling apps doesn't even put them of the "my apps" list.
I somewhat suspect Titanium backup is causing these issues. Under settings I checked "remove market entry" in freezer and un-installer settings, and it still loads those apps. I also tried completly formating my SD card.
Any thoughts, guides,... whatever

The applications are installed because Android Market uses your google account to identify you and keeps a list of apps that you have installed. (Go to Android Market, login with your google account, choose "My Market Account" on the top of the page) This is to help users restoring their apps after an update. The list isn't always up to date though.
To avoid installing the apps after flashing a new rom, skip adding your google account until you go to Settings -> Privacy and uncheck Automatic restore. This should do the trick.

And the uninstalled apps will disappear from My apps in the market after a while.

What backup u deleted and how u deleted that backup,do u checked available internal memory after deleting back up.pls reply i am having same problem

BACKUP - Apps

Hey guys, i see a lot guys that factory reset their desires for space reasons. i currently have 50mb left and i have all my programs installed but let's say i will have a factory reset and erase the phone completely. i have the following questions:
1) is there a way to backup the apps i have installed now somehow and don't have to go again to each one on the market and download them ? don't tell me about my account and that it goes with the apps i bought cause they are all free and i am in cyprus which anyway the paid market is disabled.
i installed around 40 apps important for me and it would be great if i had a way to backup them somewhere or at least extract a list from somewhere with the list of the apps i installed in order to be able to find them again later (this is the last resort i'd want though)
2) my contacts in phone are 203 and in google are 200, i run the synchronization but they stayed that way. how do i update them all online in order to be able to sync them when i reset the phone ????
3) i mentioned it above but i have installed applications out of the market too. is there a way i can export a list with all the applications installed in the phone ???? (if possible NOT the already built in)
Thanks
"Astro file manager" (free) has a great function for backing up applications to sd card, you can then move them to your PC if you want.
As for the contacts you can use "mybackup" (free-30 days trial). This application backups up everything (contacts, settings, applications etch).
You can find both on the market.

How do you reinstall certain apps after flashing another rom?

Recently I've flashed a bunch of roms, what's keeping me from keeping them is certain apps they remove (like HTC FM Radio and Navigation). Is there any easy way to port these apps back in? Usually if I just find a copy and try to install it says "not installed." In the case of Navigation, uninstalling and reinstalling the updated google maps doesn't make the Navigation app show up.

use titanium to back up the apps that you needed and then transfer them to other roms if you wish.
Another option is to download "System panel" from market the full version has an archive option. this will keep all apps on your sd you can restore them later.
However: +1 for titanium backup, it is much better, allows you to keep all data associated with the app and its market link so you continue to get updates from that app.
I use Titanium Backup but I don't see where I can restore the Navigation app. I read it was part of the Maps app when you download it but still don't see an entry. Can I just restore my backed up google maps and it'd show up? Reinstalling maps from the market doesnt seem to do it either.
the actual navigation.apk, if I remember properly, is actually a part of the HTC side of programs. So I think some developers actually remove this apk from the rom. In that case, if you want navigation.apk back you will have to find it and then install it back onto your phone.
I skimmed this so I hope its not off track
...errr ok just re-read it. If you find you can't install it because of an error, you may have to get into shell and copy it from the sd card to /system/app

[Q] move from one account to another

Hello everybody,
I've used a temp gmail account (the famous one we all have for receiving spam) when I received and set up my Desire Z. The problem is that I've downloaded not many but nice applications (some are paid) and now I would like to restart from 0 and link my phone to a clean gmail account (and market account).
Is there any way of migrating one market account to another? basically having the apps downloaded or purchased under [email protected] migrated to [email protected]?
If not, anyway of retreiving apk's from my rooted phone and then installing them after a factory reset and a link to that new account? (was looking into /system/app but it seems like most of the apps are not in, nothing found on the sd)
Thank you in advance for helping me
what I suggest you do is just download the apps you paid for and keep the ones you have on your phone then migrate to the new gmail. You can do this by going in settings>applications>manage apps then (not sure if this is the right one) clear the cache on your market app. Open market and it will request you to login with your gmail. Do so with the new gmail and bammo! If you ever accidentally remove the paid apps, just login the old account again, so be sure to write down the info incase you forget later down the road.
Probably not the exact solution you were hoping for but it's the best I can come up with!
Note: If clearing market cache doesn't remove the logged in account, try clearing the cache of some other official google apps that require sync.
Note 2: doing this will not migrate your contacts, but you can always copy all your contacts from one account to another by logging into gmail on the pc and manually migrating them there.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Have lost market.androind.com sync after moving to a custom firmware

Before i was able to install apps via market.android.com After moving to RCMix the apps i check on market don't appear to be pushed to android. Is that a known bug or smthing wrong with RCMix?
Go to Accounts and Sync settings and manually sync everything in there. Also have a look at the settings in market.android.com. Prob be a problem with RCMix.

[Q] Facebook & Twitter contacts sync lost every time after rebooting

Hello guys,
I am using F1 Gingerbread V3. Very nice ROM, clean & fast. The developer is very talented (he is a minor!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079469
However, every time after I reboot the phone, all my contacts that have been synced with Facebook & Twitter will be lost. I have to go to Settings>Accounts & Sync>add accounts.
It is frustrating if you have to sync the Facebook contacts every single time after you reboot. I wanted to ask the developer himself at the ROM thread page, but since I'm a newbie, I couldn't post a reply there.
So any ideas guys?
This might be because you've moved the Facebook and Twitter apps to SD card, which makes them unable to startup when Android boots up.
Move them back to phone memory and it should work again.

OK I'll try that. Thanks!
I think that is because those apps are removed from the ROM, it is sense part of the ROM. Everytime you reboot accounts are erased. Happened to me with one ROM so I moved to Sense ROMs.
Cheers
goto acc& sync
and remove accounts and login again..
most probably it should work
