£147 for phone repair ! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

So I sent my HTC Touch Pro 2 away to HTC , after ringing up a few places and they telling me HTC dont give out parts so I have to send it direct to them.
Got email today...charging me £147 just for a broken LCD Screen so I rang up and complained...for "good will" they are sending me it back for free, which would usually cost me £12.
Any1 know of anywhere I can sent it without paying a stupid amount?
Cheers

If it's just a broken lcd screen you may be better off buying a replacement screen on ebay, or another respected site and just swapping it out yourself.

Being screwed with Mda III

I've posted it before and posting it again.. The screen on my MDA III cracked somehow.. anyway not finding any replacement parts anywhere i called t-mobile (uk) and they had no clue what to do.. after i called a few times they gave me a number.. (HTC Europe).
After sending my phone in for "inspection" (note: i specified BT problems, screen hissing noise and mic problems aswell) i was told i had to pay for a new screen.
After sending them a cheque of £105.75 (90 + vat) or about 195 US dollars, I was told i had to wait for some time for it to clear..
That took 2 weeks. When it got cleared they told me "its being repaired.. it should be tested tomorrow and after is final testing you'll get it back". This was on a monday.. "u should have it by wednesday".. I called again on tuesday to check.. "u should have it by the end of the week.." then "early next week". this went on for 2 weeks!
Called up again today (monday) ..i was told that the motherboard aint compatible with the screen and they have to replace it. We usually fix orange ones.. not t-mobile he said!!!!?!?!?! what the hell? parts are different? We'll change it tomorrow and u should have it by wednesday...
(year right)
Anyway..
So they'll be changing the motherboard (unless its a cheap excuse to buy some time) to change the screen. The IMEI should be different then shouldnt it?
I've been without my phone now for 5 weeks and im utterly pissed off.
The only thing i hope is when (EVENTUALLY) i'll get my phone back, it will have a fixed microphone so ppl can hear me.. latest rom on (which t-mobile is doing nothing about) BT that works and a screen that doesnt hiss when on (even better if it aint got yellow hue). If its UNLOCKED it would ease off the anger!
Im asking everyone to place their bets, that in about a month when im estimating to get my phone back that nothing will be changed. They told me the whole LCD will be changed AND the motherboard.
Options are :
1. Only the touchscreen is changed
2. The whole touchscreen and lcd is changed
3. LCD and Mobo are changed
4. 3 with software updates and patches
5. 4 and unlocked
6. Send me another one with all the original problems (with a softer keyboard with a huge gap)
7. Send me my money back saying we cant fix it
Place your bets now
Come on Jimp!!! Where's the official odds for these bets
Anyway, I'll stick £20 GBP on secret option...
2a. - LCD/touch screen changed with updates but original m/board (sorry, can't help thinking they're fobbing you off to get more time and save on warranty shipping costs)
Then I want £30 GBP on another secret option...
4a. - 3 with Release ROM and bluetooth patch, badged as "NEW" ROM, neither of which fix any of your previous issues.
Let me know how you get on.
Dom
as expected..
still nothing as they are giving lame excuses again to delay.
couple more days.. and if they wont do anything im complaining to my phone company.
I was assured today that my phone will b fixed tomorrow definetely and i should have it by friday.. Even tho i heard that loads of times im quite hopeful..
I also asked if the whole lcd will be changed and the mobo and they said yes... the touchscreen AND the lcd is one unit and we will replace it along with the mobo.
I told him if the serial number would change since the mobo is different , he said the serial will stay the same but the IMEI will change...
Hmm. I thought the SN was calculated with the IMEI and vice versa. Oh well ... We shall wait and see
So...... two questions now
The first one is:
What was the outcome of this bet
The second:
I have the same problem with my 9090. Can you please give me the telephone number of HTC Europe?
Kind regards,
-Bastian
outcome
The outcome was after waiting for 2 months(!!!!) i was told i would be getting my phone back with a new screen and a new motherboard.. Thats their lame way of saying heres a new phone and we struggled fixing it..
They gave me a new phone(after i paid 110 quid uk) with a fixed screen.. but with a loose keyboard.

O2 XDA cracked LCD
Hi jimp,
Man, what a pain!
Thanks for posting HTC Europe's address, would you know if they have an e-mail address.
I'm located in California and have the same problem with my O2 XDA IIs and have had no luck with trying to find a replacement LCD.
Also, how did you track your device, did the give you an RMA prior to sending in your unit?
Thanks

Check out PocketPC Techs in southern California; they might do LCD replacements.
they gave me an rma ye..
The address is only for EU customers.
HTC must have a US support.
Better off going with pocket pc tech for screen replacement tho
Thanks for the info jimp.
Unfortunatelly there is no HTC support in the US that I have found. I'm also trying to work with PocketPC techs but they are not sure that they have the correct LCD for the O2 XDA IIs. They and another company PDASmart.com need an LCD part number to verify. Apparently, according to them, HTC changed the LCD model in their later productions.
Thanks again.
This sounds totally wild.
I can not belive that who ever import the BA to your country, does not have several repair shops around the country.
There are many Phone/PDA repair shops around, and importers normally have agrements with them.
I had mine fixed here in Norway.
Just drove in and delivered it, and without a receipt. (They just check the IMEI)
Drove back 3 days later, yep all done and ready.
It's not just wild, It sucks!!! :x
If I can not fix my XDA, it's going to suck even more. Worse is that I really liked the device. It was perfect for my work and play (as most of you that have them know), but I'm not sure that I would buy another one because of the lack of support and the cost.
The XDA IIs is not exported to the US via normal channels so there is NO support for it. There are a some service providers that have the Himalaya , but not the Blue Angel (yet anyway) availabel to US consumers. After weeks of contacting O2 in Europe and Asia to purchase one they pretty much told me to go away (in a very poplite manner that is). So I bought a used one (like new condition) from a private party on e-bay and he faxed me his original receipt from the vendor he bough it from in December. When I contacted the vendor, they did not even want to deal with me becasue I was not the original owner.

Touch Pro 2 No Input Touch screen dead

So Im starting this thread to hopefully assist anyone whose screen has gone dead. No Input on touchscreen. The phone boots up fine but you cannot do any input after even a hard reset.
I have the European version T737. Unbranded.
I have contacted HTC and they told me to send the phone in to the US. There is a $28 fee that I have to pay just for them to tell me whats wrong with the phone. Plus I live in the caribbean so I have to pay to ship it to HTC in texas.
I am asking the following questions.
1. Can I fix the phone myself? What do you think is the problem?
I will keep updating this post as to what happens.
I would suggest that if HTC is generously offering a replacement or repair for a small fee of $28 then there really is no point in voiding your warranty to try to fix the device yourself and ultimately having to shell out another $400 for a new device.

HTC Repair Service / RMA process

There are many threads out there that talk about how awful HTC repair service is. Here's my story:
Bought a Touch Pro2 phone off of eBay. The phone was in decent working condition, but there were some things here and there. There were a few scratches on the screen, dings on the housing, and the when closed, the screen would overlap the keyboard by a mm or so. Otherwise, no problems. I had a free day at work, so I thought, lets try to see what the warranty process is on the phone. It can't be that old. So I called T-Mobile first. No luck. Since I hadn't purchased the phone through them, I don't get warranty through them. Makes sense. I then called HTC. They put in the serial number, and well... The phone was in its last 3 weeks of the 15 month warranty. So Saturday morning, I packed the phone off, and sent it to the repair center via Priority Mail.
The phone got to the repair center on Tuesday. I then started watching my email for a repair quote, or estimate, or whatever. Nothing. That's when I started reading the horror stories. I called HTC service to find out what the status of the phone was on Thursday. The phone was already on its way back! On the phone, I got
- A new keyboard
- New function / home keys
- AND a new touch / digitizer screen!!!
I got the phone in my hands on Friday, less than a week since I had mailed it. Ok.. so what company on earth can claim to have better service than this? All for no cost to me!! Unbelievable!! Way to go HTC! You've made me into a loyal customer!
they do warranty's because of scratch casings? I bought one of ebay and the casing is scratched not sure yet has it hasn't arrived ill call and check when it arrives btw did u habe to pay to ship it? and where did you ship it to?

I don't think they warranty repair scratched casings. In my case, the keyboard was a little messed up. So that was the original repair. When they go through the phone, they either repair things they see as wrong, or they email/call you with a quote to tell you the cost for fixing things not under warranty. In my case, they repaired everything!
You can call 1-888-617-1113 to check whether the phone is under warranty. You ship it to Texas on your own money. They take your credit card number to charge you a "triage" fee in case you don't want repairs and want the phone back. This is up to $39. In my case, like I said, I paid for outbound shipping, but got the repairs and return shipping for free. YMMV.

Cracked screen and insurance

so ive recently dropped my phone, screen cracked, no biggie, so i take it to the sprint store that repairs it like i did the past few times, however this time they say they have no wide cable screens in stock to replace it. so i ask "When will you have it back in stock?" she says she doesnt know, so i ask "Is there a way i can have that ordered for my phone?" she says no and goes on a long rant about how another customer hasnt had his fixed for months and suggests me to a competitor that fixes phones. if i paid for the full coverage insurance and they cant fix my phone, what should i do to fix the screen? should i call customer service and demand a replacement free of cost because the company stopped making my screen? or will i be stuck with the 100 deductable

You could go to asurion I believe not sure. If you go to asurion you might a get a evo3D as a replacement
Sent from my Warm 3.5 Evo using XDA app
Ok I think you are a little confused. Asurion is your insurance company, which has nothing to do with sprint. If you already paid 100 dollars for the deductible, then you paid that to Asurion, and THEY should be sending you another phone, either a refurb 4g or a new evo 3d. They don't fix phones, they just send out whole phones.
Now, sprint will usually fix phones in their stores if you have TEP (which you do). Sometimes they will do it for free, sometimes they will charge like 25-25 bucks. But as you stated, they said they are out of those screens. So you can either try a few more stores, or go through Asurion (which it sounds like you already did by paying the deductiuble).

Cracked screen/outcome?

Hey folks, had my OP3 for just over a month and wouldn't you know that I dropped a tool on the phone just at the earpiece and the whole screen spider cracked! Totally bummed out.
When talking to customer care they said it could take up to 10 working days, but once creating an RMA they would pay for shipping and then give me an estimate for materials and labor once they finish inspection. Does anyone have any prior opinion with this approach?
On a second option, I purchased a 1 year insurance plan from OnePlus that they offered through a company called Assurant.."On Gard Plus 24".....but when talking to One Plus, they had no contact number for claims!! Only an email for North America. Luckily the email was real and I got a responce, and they will be forwarding my claim to the appropriate division. Has any one gone this route?? (BTW if needed the email is " [email protected] " ).
Or how about just taking it to a phone repair spot and have them order the needed glass? Any one do this with the OP3?
I look forward to hear what options you took and how much was the repair and how long were you with out your phone.
Cheers!
I know I'm not the only one with butter fingers here......
Cracked my screen too, cost was €104 (screen, shipping, work) and the phone was gone for 20 days.
When asking if I can do it on my one they told me the screen isn't sold by OnePlus. So if you find one it's not genuine...
superiscch...thank you for that...that is what I was hunting for. Funny how when my SGS5's screen cracked, it was just one line. Now you compromise the glass and it just shatters!
Update
I got to talk to the insurance provider that was sold with the purchase of the OP3 and customer service was excellent...located in Canada. With the purchase of the insurance, the customer is allowed 2 replacement devices for damages regarding screen or water. This also includes manufacturer defect with unlimited replacement! They will replace your device with either a new one or refurbished model.....so
It's $80 for the insurance.....$75 for the claim. They then send out a replacement to you (2-3 days) and you get to move all your info from the damaged one to the new one and you then send out the damaged one! So your not left without a phone!
At this point I'm thinking this is the best service I have seen in a while! Hope this helps anyone else who has had damage their OP3.
I did receive an 1-800 number but it is with my notes that I don't have access to right now, but if it is needed I will post it LTR.....take care :highfive:
