I've posted it before and posting it again.. The screen on my MDA III cracked somehow.. anyway not finding any replacement parts anywhere i called t-mobile (uk) and they had no clue what to do.. after i called a few times they gave me a number.. (HTC Europe).
After sending my phone in for "inspection" (note: i specified BT problems,screen hissing noise and mic problems aswell) i was told i had to pay for a new screen.
After sending them a cheque of £105.75 (90 + vat) or about 195 US dollars, I was told i had to wait for some time for it to clear..
That took 2 weeks. When it got cleared they told me "its being repaired.. it should be tested tomorrow and after is final testing you'll get it back". This was on a monday.. "u should have it by wednesday".. I called again on tuesday to check.. "u should have it by the end of the week.." then "early next week". this went on for 2 weeks!
Called up again today (monday) ..i was told that the motherboard aint compatible with the screen and they have to replace it. We usually fix orange ones.. not t-mobile he said!!!!?!?!?! what the hell? parts are different? We'll change it tomorrow and u should have it by wednesday...

Anyway..
So they'll be changing the motherboard (unless its a cheap excuse to buy some time) to change the screen. The IMEI should be different then shouldnt it?
I've been without my phone now for 5 weeks and im utterly pissed off.
The only thing i hope is when (EVENTUALLY) i'll get my phone back, it will have a fixed microphone so ppl can hear me.. latest rom on (which t-mobile is doing nothing about) BT that works and a screen that doesnt hiss when on (even better if it aint got yellow hue). If its UNLOCKED it would ease off the anger!
Im asking everyone to place their bets, that in about a month when im estimating to get my phone back that nothing will be changed. They told me the whole LCD will be changed AND the motherboard.
Options are :
1. Only the touchscreen is changed
2. The whole touchscreen and lcd is changed
3. LCD and Mobo are changed
4. 3 with software updates and patches
5. 4 and unlocked
6. Send me another one with all the original problems (with a softer keyboard with a huge gap)
7. Send me my money back saying we cant fix it

I also asked if the whole lcd will be changed and the mobo and they said yes... the touchscreen AND the lcd is one unit and we will replace it along with the mobo.
I told him if the serial number would change since the mobo is different , he said the serial will stay the same but the IMEI will change...
Hmm. I thought the SN was calculated with the IMEI and vice versa. Oh well ... We shall wait and see

The outcome was after waiting for 2 months(!!!!) i was told i would be getting my phone back with a new screen and a new motherboard.. Thats their lame way of saying heres a new phone and we struggled fixing it..
They gave me a new phone(after i paid 110 quid uk) with a fixed screen.. but with a loose keyboard.

I'm located in California and have the same problem with my O2 XDA IIs and have had no luck with trying to find a replacement LCD.

Check out PocketPC Techs in southern California; they might do LCD replacements.
they gave me an rma ye..
The address is only for EU customers.
HTC must have a US support.
Better off going with pocket pc tech for screen replacement tho

Unfortunatelly there is no HTC support in the US that I have found. I'm also trying to work with PocketPC techs but they are not sure that they have the correct LCD for the O2 XDA IIs. They and another company PDASmart.com need an LCD part number to verify. Apparently, according to them, HTC changed the LCD model in their later productions.

I can not belive that who ever import the BA to your country, does not have several repair shops around the country.
There are many Phone/PDA repair shops around, and importers normally have agrements with them.
I had mine fixed here in Norway.
Just drove in and delivered it, and without a receipt. (They just check the IMEI)
Drove back 3 days later, yep all done and ready.

If I can not fix my XDA, it's going to suck even more. Worse is that I really liked the device. It was perfect for my work and play (as most of you that have them know), but I'm not sure that I would buy another one because of the lack of support and the cost.
The XDA IIs is not exported to the US via normal channels so there is NO support for it. There are a some service providers that have the Himalaya , but not the Blue Angel (yet anyway) availabel to US consumers. After weeks of contacting O2 in Europe and Asia to purchase one they pretty much told me to go away (in a very poplite manner that is). So I bought a used one (like new condition) from a private party on e-bay and he faxed me his original receipt from the vendor he bough it from in December. When I contacted the vendor, they did not even want to deal with me becasue I was not the original owner.

I bought an S620 on ebay, was setting it up and everything seemed fine until I noticed that the J, K, and L keys do not work at all.
The HTC website advised to shut the phone on and off, then perform a hard reset, and if neither of those work to send the phone in for repairs.
Well, neither of those worked, so am I out of luck and will have to send the phone for repairs? No idea what kind of warranty is on it, I am in the USA so I would probably have to ship it to some HTC repair center in some other part of the world...
Someone on howardforums suggested that I update the rom to the T-Mobile USA WM6 rom.
But...when I try to install the WM6 rom, I get an "invalid device id" (something like that) error. I take it this means the phone needs to be CID unlocked?
I did the SDA Unlock and also the SurrealNetworks Application Unlock but still get that error. Would I have to pay for an unlock code from a place like imeicheck in order to CID unlock the phone and then install the WM6 rom?

personally, i think your phone is defective.
A ROM upgrade won't change anything if the keys don't work before either. But if you'll have to send the device in for repairs you shouldn't have a ROM on it which is not the original one from HTC. The warranty could be voided!
Sounds like you got a defective phone. Maybe damaged by some fluid on the keyboard. Then you will not get a warranty repair. I suggest that you return the phone to the seller on Ebay.

I asked the seller to take it back but haven't gotten a response. When I bought the phone I pulled a dumb move: made an offer by email after an auction had ended, then just did the transaction on paypal without putting a new auction thru. That left me no way to leave negative feedback, and no incentive for the seller to do anything to make me happy. I don't really feel like doing a dispute through paypal and getting caught up in that whole process. So it looks like I'm on my own.
I did a search and found the way to flash the T-Mobile USA WM6 rom onto the S620 here, but I guess that requires an unlock code from imei-check that costs money, for something that might not even fix my problem. My decision: skip that route.
As for warranty, I'm in the USA and this is not a USA model phone so I'm not be able to get warranty repairs from HTC USA. I spoke with HTC USA and they said for HTC branded phones they will accept them for non-warranty repairs, do an inspection to determine the cost of repairs, and then send me a new (maybe refurb?) replacement S620. Apparently they keep a few on hand specifically for this sort of thing. That option sounded appealing but they wouldn't really give me a ballpark figure of how much it'd cost or how long it'd take to turn around.
A friend recommended I check out www.cellulardr.com as a place to have the phone repaired. I called them and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about, told me how much it'd cost ($69 all told plus shipping) and how long it'd take to turn around (48 hours tops). Sounded good to me so I set it up. Lucky for me this seller who now has no reason to talk to me, was kind enough to at least sell me the phone for a steal of a price, so even with the repairs I'm still doing alright on the total price. I'll let you folks know how this turns out.
Bit of an update. According to Omnicom they've fixed the keyboard and are shipping the phone back to me. They were real good at sending me updates along the way. Will report back once I receive the phone.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with HTC not honoring their warranty.
My Phone developed a fault a few months ago, where it would get hot and just reboot if it was plugged in. I eventually got round to sending it off and after 2 weeks it came back to the Vodafone shop with a message saying it was not repaired as it had been damaged. So I call the vodafone repair centre for more info and they told me that HTC had indicated that it had been water damaged, this really suprised me as the guys at the Vodafone store had checked the two visible tabs before they sent it out and the guys at Vodafone repair center had also checked for accidental damage before sending it to HTC and found nothing.
Since the phone has come back it is now rebooting all the time not just when charging and HTC won't do a thing the phone has never been in contact with water this is ridiculous the HTC warranty appears to be worth nothing.
HTC can tell if it's been user damaged in most cases, and if so, that doesn't qualify for warranty. Voda has no where near the same tools or understanding of the device. HTC can also call one of the chip manufacturers engineers in to ascertain failures for a second opinion.

I had this exact fault on my phone too. I just called up my provider (Virgin Mobile) and they swapped it, no questions, no inspections, just a direct swap. It's definitely not a water-related issue, the motherboard itself is at fault. You only have to search the issue in Google to find many others with the same problem.
Yep I am aware of this being a very common issue, and it would appear that most other networks are just replacing immediately due to it being such a common fault, not only have Vodafone not done this they are offering me the "REALLY GOOD DEAL" of paying backdated phone insurance of £95 to get a replacement desire, sorry but as this issue is so common and if it was happen again, I dont want to have to pay cough up another chunk of cash, so if I have to pay out I think I should be able to get a different handset.
I'm having the exact problem, and it's specifically HTC AMERICA that is the problem. They are like a rogue nation, not even respecting their corporations own customer legal agreements.

Long story but MacWorld, Wired, others covered it: I organized about 20 nations to pressure Apple back when they had their G4 desktop MDD which made excessive noise to issue replacement power supply units to every owner across the world, for free -- and it was the first time ever in the history of Apple where they issued a product replacement without their being a formal recall. And all of this without one lawyer or lawsuit. I'm just saying....
But it took cooperation, and complete documentation, and there was no way they could win. And I am tired of putting up with this bull**** from HTC AMERICA. They are pond scum who do nothing. HTC China are the brains and design geniuses who built and maintain an amazing company. HTC AMERICA is out to KILL IT.

I did... or thought I did. And made an unfortunate mistake. My last 2 phones I bought insurance through great company called "Square Trade"... Had a warranty problem with -- of all people -- HTC America -- on a 2 week old HTC Hero, and, long story short, Square Trade paid out fully in 48 hours, after a month of hassles with HTC America. (They require you go thru warranty first)
I bought it for the HTC DESIRE, but missed the fine print.... They only cover phones bought in USA... and this was bought from UK vendor... so, even though they accepted the payment, I submitted the proof of purchase, etc, they informed me when I went to try to file insurance claim here "hmm, says you bought this frm UK vendor" "yes i did"
"insurance is void"
So, for that I am technically at fault, but when i went back and checked, it was pretty small print -- and what threw me was, the HTC HERO which was covered by them and paid out by them, was also bought from UK, but it was bought via a USA vendor who imported it... hah hah. So, in any case, it just didn't occur to me that there was a restriction, but i was wrong.
Having said all that, I'm curious:

So the problem is as follows - I have a contract with three mobile (uk) signed about a month ago (several days less) yesterday I spotted the yellow spot on my screen (as I understand faulty glue) so today i went to 3 and they told me I need to contact HTC and they will send me a new one.
So I have contacted HTC no reply yet - but that's fine.
My question is can someone who went through the same process tell me how that goes and how long does it take because I use my phone for work and I really need it so a week of not having phone is not acceptable.
Also are HTC going to be idiots and refuse to replace it because the boot loader is unlocked - I think that in violation with the trade and goods agreement.
Odd that you've not heard from them, they usually arrange to collect the phone when you call them.
They won't replace it, just repair it. Takes about week.
Im also in the UK. I arranged repair over the online chat which was more helpful as it was obviously instant conversation rather than waiting for replies. It took 7 days, Monday to Monday. My repair was the WiFi problem though. My bootloader was (and is still) unlocked. I just restored the stock recovery and ROM and nothing was mentioned of the unlock they just repaired it. I'm not sure what u can do with regards to having no handset. When I had my old HD2 direct from o2 they fixed it directly with their own repair center and provided a temporary phone for me to use. Having this HOX on orange through dial-a-phone they to told me to contact HTC also.

it's not down to HTC, it's down to 3 to sort your repair out. I've not used 3 but I upgraded with P4U and had to swap 4 Sony Xperia S (yellow spot) all within 28 days each time being told that after 28 days they would have to send it for repair.

I know - i was a bit surprised as well.
I mean i have my contract with 3 not HTC - true - htc made the device in a bad way but still....
Well anyway thank you all - a week i guess will be fine i have another device its just a bit outdated and I`m having trouble running openvpn and stuff on it
If it's within 28 days of purchase return it to where you bought it and they're obliged to replace it if it's a defective unit.
I had same issue and carphone warehouse were happy to replace it.

My experience isn't in UK, but my first HOX also got a bright spot on screen. What I did is, I placed in an ELF (Early Life Failure) order as soon as I found the problem in retail store (I signed up the phone online), it took repair department of my carrier (not HTC) 3 days to response and approve my claim. Ultimately, I picked up a new one in retail store, and thats the happy ending of my story.
Just to keep people updated if someone has the same problem.
I spoke with HTC today - and I have to say I`m amazed by the support.
A UPS person is going to come and collect my phone tomorrow so it is quite quick and within 7 days I`ll have new or repaired device. I had to include proof of purchase and a form they send me.
I have been asked if I unlocked the device and they actually apologised to me in case it gets relocked during the repair process - so unlocking it is not a problem.
Well teats for now - I`ll say what happened when it returns
Interestingly, I've never been asked for proof of purchase from HTC, and I've used the repair service four times, including my One X which was collected today.
Funnily enough though, I wouldn't even have it if it wasn't for someone else being asked for its proof of purchase for a repair lol
The repair email says to include proof of purchase, but I think people get away with not doing so. My first repair got replaced with another phone, which was unlocked, then it had to go in for repair and as I included my proof of purchase which states my phone was with 3, HTC flashed 3 firmware onto it, relocking it.
That was just the beginning of my issues though, now after months of problems, HTC finally sent me a retail unit (not from repair centre), but it ended up being defected as well as it was from an old batch...
It never ends. My tip is if you ever deal with HTC sending you a new phone, request it's from the newest batch possible.
Oh yeah, so it does. Never noticed that before (on account of never reading the email)
None of the reps I've spoken to on the phone or chat have mentioned it, so I've never sent one.
And here we go with the update - the device arrived yesterday - I was quite excited since it was actually fast It was send back to me on friday (so 2 days for repair and delivery) and i received in ot monday just because UPS dont deliver on weekends apparently.
Anyway - the first thing I noticed was when charging i can see the light not only from the speaker but from the top of the creen as well - well that was fine with me. But what i have noticed today is that when charging the touch on the screen goes nuts - i just put my finger and it starts thinking i have pressed on random locations with like 100000 fingers.
(BTW anyone had that problem - i presume it is building some kind og charge on the screen due to the charge but have no idea why)
And so here we go again - I contacted the support and they are coming to pick it up again (this time on 13-th of Aug since I`m outside the UK for a week).
I hope they will just replace it this time instead of trying to fix it.
I'm in the UK, I had lots of issues with my senny XE in repair 4 times eventually they gave me a free upgrade to the hox with a nice new 2 year warranty

Finally received my phone after the second repair - for now it seems to be working properly. Hopefully that will be the end of the story
In Australia if you pay A who is on selling a product for B your contract(warranty/consumer law) is with A as they received payment. I purchased my HOX outright and also had a problem with the screen, the seller was giving me the same BS until I set him straight. Received a new HOX the same day.
Just realised the screen is a bit less responsive when charging ..... again ....
is that something normal - I mean if i have to send it again for repairs I`ll be quite pissed - I mean that's like a month of not having a phone overall

Send it to HTC service in UK and got message from them with picture that my screen i broken and is not under warranty??? I send them good condition phone (a part of GPS) and now they said its smashed. I have picture of my phone before delivery in good condition but they say is not a proof. Waiting for response from HTC

Where did you buy this phone? It's very well possible (although should not be the case) that your phone got cracked during transport..... If that's the case then somehow it is not their fault... but this is a ****ty situation to be in to be honest.
what method of shipping did you use to send it to htc? was it their ups service? or did send it yourself?
at this point if htc don't back down i'd look to the shipping company for compensation - just hope it was insured transit
They did not come to pick it up theirself?
In Belgium they insist that they do the packaging themself. You just sign a paper that it is not damaged (if i remember correctly 5 aspects).
Anyway this is not the first time I hear you story. If you google it, then it has happened a lot.

They send UPS courier to pick up phone (was double wrapped in bubble foil and bubble envelope) HTC after I phoned them confirm that package arrive non damage but phone it self smashed!!!! so they raised complaint against UPS will see what gonna happened.

Looks like I might have become the first in the U.S. to experience the SDS issue, at least among those who attend this forum regularly? Because I searched and searched, read and read, and could not find a single sign that anyone in the U.S. has experienced this SDS issue and filed a warranty claim to someone/somewhere. I contacted Samsung USA and they said this device is not supported and they're not trained to provide the support to me, and directed me to their international website... I had not luck with their international website either, so I contacted Amazon seller who I bought my N7100 from. And they have not replied in the past couple days...
So I wanted to see if anyone here has imported his/her n7100 into the U.S. and happened to encounter any issue with the phone and successfully filed warranty claim against Samsung. If so, how can that be done?
Worst case scenario, I pay to repair n7100 in the U.S., who should I go to? Or do I have to send the phone overseas either way?

I did not import my phone, I got it from Sprint, BUT..................given the choice, ship it back to Korea for Warranty!!! Have you ever a conversation with repair tech's in most mobile shops here??? And even with TEP they will give you every excuse how YOU messed it up or dropped and and your claim is denied.
If you send it back and likely they will get you someone that actually BUILDS the note's, original part, or give you a brand new (not referb) Note!!

How long have you had the phone? Is it within 30-day return period? For return/replacement reasons I only buy items from Amazon that are Prime Eligible even if the non-Prime ones are dirt cheap.

I wish! :crying: I've had it for well over 5 months. It wasn't prime even tho I do have prime membership, because at the time I bought it, only ones available are from all kinds of importers/sellers that sell THRU amazon. Even though it's prime (fulfilled by Amazon), im not sure if it's Amazon that you can contact for warranty claim after 5 months, because it is not sold by Amazon but only "fulfilled".
It's unlucky to say the least. It is essentially "mistake by mistakes" made by me. I shouldn't have assumed that there should be no issue like SDS on an Samsung device; I shouldn't have assumed that if something happens, it's easy as a breeze to just call Samsung UK to get things fixed; I shouldn't have assumed that the seller I chose on Amazon is willing to help me if Samsung UK and Samsung USA kicks me back n forth; etc etc...

If anyone had any experience with this, please please help me :good:. I swear I'm not gonna be so trusting next time. I will buy from a seller that's known to be helpful with their customers' warranty claim, i.e., expansys. I would even buy a carrier subsidized phone just for the sake of the proper support. I thought the worst case with this dead phone for me was to pay high bills to fix it and sell it to cover partial cost, but now it looks like the worse case is that I don't know where to go to fix it...

I shouldn't have assumed that there should be no issue like SDS on an Samsung device; I shouldn't have assumed that if something happens, it's easy as a breeze to just call Samsung UK to get things fixed; I shouldn't have assumed that the seller I chose on Amazon is willing to help me if Samsung UK and Samsung USA kicks me back n forth; etc etc...

If anyone had any experience with this, please please help me :good:. I swear I'm not gonna be so trusting next time. I will buy from a seller that's known to be helpful with their customers' warranty claim, i.e., expansys. I would even buy a carrier subsidized phone just for the sake of the proper support. I thought the worst case with this dead phone for me was to pay high bills to fix it and sell it to cover partial cost, but now it looks like the worse case is that I don't know where to go to fix it...

Sorry about the warranty bro. By the way, I've successfully returned items to sellers without problems even when it was only fulfilled by amazon. One instance was an order of 750gb seagate xt HD, to which I received a 60gb HD instead. Contacted the seller, got no response, contacted Amazon and I was immediately issued an RMA.
As far as requesting support from warranty, knock on wood, I haven't such experience yet with items purchased from amazon.

Hey cswithxda, I have the same situation. Bought a N7100 from Amazon a few months ago (around November) and everything was fine until this afternoon when it was just off. Tried turning it on but I'm just getting the dim red light that flashes slowly when I press the power button. Charging light is off and the phone appears absolutely dead.
A while ago I checked to see if I have a vulnerable chip, and it was positive.
Samsung's live chat said they don't support international products.
I might go to one of those repair places tomorrow to see if they can diagnose the phone. Then I might see if Samsung USA will even look at it, or else I might send it to UK or Korea?
What have you done since your phone suffered from the SDS?

Sorry about your unlucky situation.
By repair places, do you mean Samsung support center or something? I talked to Samsung USA also and they wouldn't even talk to me if I tell them the model number (n7100). So I really don't know where I should go now. I contacted original seller and the help was minimal (telling me to contact Samsung).
I would like to send it to either UK or Korea, as long as it can be repaired, or even better, if it can be repaired under warranty.
Let me know what you find out with repair places.
Also, I did not know about SDS after my phone's dead. So I had been suffering from hangs/freezes but thought it was only software problem and was being lazy about re-flashing it. I wish I'd come here more often when the phone was in a good condition, not after it died... Anyway, after I got to know that it's been SDS'd, I contacted seller, SamUK, SamUSA without any luck. It is just amazing how much we are unsupported in this situation. As large as Samsung has become, how hard can it be for them to just provide global repair services (if not warranty services)

I'm about to go to a phone repair place for a diagnostic test and see if they can do anything. I'll let you know what I find.
I was surprised to read that Samsung UK didn't wasn't helpful, since this phone is sold there. As a last-case scenario I was thinking of sending my phone to a friend over there and sending it in for repair.
Okay, as of today I sent the phone to a friend in the UK who was kind enough to let me use his address. It really sucks from having the best, most powerful phone to nothing, but I will likely pick up a Nexus 4 to use. I don't regret purchasing the phone since I wanted to have the best and it needed to be unlocked, but in the future I will be more cautious about buying one without local warranty.
I just hope the phone is 'dead' enough so the fact that I rooted it isn't detected.
What have you done with yours? I imagine it'll take ~2 weeks for my package to get shipped across the pond, and then I'll calculate 1.5 months for repair. I'll keep you posted on how it goes; maybe it's an option to get yours repaired there too?

I bought a nexus 4 as well lol. I really needed a phone and it was cheap! :good: The experience has been as good as on N7100. 4.2.2 is even smoother now.
I have been caught up with school works and sth else in life, so I haven't really tried anything else yet. Samsung UK sent me an email that I cannot reply (automated email system), gave me a link to the list of Samsung regional supports (hell, they think I cannot find that on my own?!), and nothing more. Samsung USA just slammed the door in my face, basically saying "no, good luck" when I tried live support on their website. So now I am still trying to get my original seller into this and help me, but they haven't replied in the past 2 weeks.
I wish I had a friend in UK!
BTW, when you bought your phone thru Amazon, did you notice where the phone came from? I'm not sure where my came from now.. It has German, French, and Italian user guide in it, but on the warranty card, it seems to be written in German and Slovenian. And Samsung Electronics Austria GmbH is the only thing I can read (those long, long german words are giving me a headache :silly: ) It talked about three regions - Austria, Slovenia, and Switzerland (thanks to Google Translate). So it looks like this phone might come from Austria. I am not sure if it still can be sent to UK for repair.

I'm pretty sure mine came from California (Amazon seller WorldWide Distributors). But the firmware version on the phone was from Brazil or Panama.
I made an account on Samsung UK's site and it accepted the model number, serial number and IMEI number so despite not being from the region, it should be good. Did you do anything to your phone just before it died? I think that installing MIUI with kernel 4.1.1 was the insult that triggered it all for me. I should've realized the vulnerability but assumed the newest version would have the SDS fix included.
I was thinking about bringing it to a cell phone repair place for diagnosis, but it didn't have water damage or broken screen so I doubt they could have helped.
Being optimistic, not having a good cell phone is really allowing me to focus on my final USMLE studies!

WOW good luck with the exam, i used to do premed but changed my major my GPA wasn't good enough
Anyway, that's for sure a better news. It looks like Samsung UK does not screen off phone bought outside of UK support region (if yours was from Mid/latin america.

Oh btw, I don't think anything triggered the issue, it was just there from the beginning I didn't even install anything new for at least 2 months before the phone died. Just normal daily use - web browsing, call, SMS, mobile IM, etc. I did start experiencing random freezes about 2 weeks before the phone died, and it became much more frequent towards the end of its life.

Search "SDS xda" on google, and you'll find a ton of info. I didn't know about this issue before my phone died, so I never bothered to check if the chip in my phone was defective hehe..
