Hey All,
I've completed a search but couldn't find anything specific on the o2 network.
I know there's been some issues with regards to reception after the 2.2 update. But i've had variable reception ever since I've had the phone which makes me wonder whether it's a phone issue as opposed to a network issue.
Is anyone else on o2 who can either confirm or reject my query? Even when I don't move my phone the reception jumps up and down like a yoyo which makes it frustrating when trying to send texts or dropping call quality (or calls itself).
If it's a network issue then it could be because there are too many o2 users and the network can't cope with the volume of people using it. I've been with o2 for a good number of years now and never really had a problem until now.
If it's a phone issue then I may look for another phone...possibly go back to a regular phone as other than checking my e-mails and occasionally going online (via wifi) I know I don't use the phone to it's full potential...
On o2 myself mate. Been with them for two years.
Tbh the reception is ok. But not the best. As for the desire the signal is pretty solid on mine but at times the data is terrible when colleagues have another operator and full data...
IMHO its hit and miss and by the nature of wireless networks.
You may find another operator better. But you might not. Its too hard to say...
reception issues
Maybe this is a radio issue I've had a lot of problems.
I've just changed my radio which is now something like
5.10.05_17.This was a downgrade and has turned no signal into
a full signal without even moving position. So I don't think its an o2 issue .
Hope this helps I'm sure it will.
Are you referring to 2g or 3G coverage? O2's 3G coverage is pretty poor comparedto others at the moment - although hopefully this will change once their network share with vodafone kicks in properly.

Ok does downgrading the radio mean I need to root the phone?

Good question, because of poor battery performance I rarely have 3g/mobile on so I'm referring to 2g. I only use 3g when I'm out and about and need to check something quickly. Otherwise I use WiFi at home. When is the network share scheduled to happen?

I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm on Vodafone and it's total gash for data. Yes, they have a lot of coverage, but a heavily congested network meaning that while you may well have a good signal, best of luck getting any data through it. I can't imagine adding you lot to an already congested network is going to help much. (of course it depends on where you are in the country - I'm in central London where the problems with Voda network congestion are well documented)
The Guy only asked about call reception now were miles away.
Is there a way to force my SGS3 to use 3G instead of 4G? At work I cant get 4G but my Vibrant picked up 3G perfectly. Just wondering. Thanks

Do you mean "2G/Edge"? There really is no 4G on T-Mo, it's just their marketing name for 3G HSPA+.

Yes, I know there is not "TRUE" 4G.. But it does pick up a different signal than my Vibrant "3G/H". No i do not mean edge. I want to pick up 3G not 3G+...

That won't make a difference. It is not possible to limit one of them because they are the same technology.

I think some people are too obsessed with this notion of battery life. Sure, LTE might degrade it a little, but is it really worth disabling completely? I'm sure I wouldn't, I want the full features of a phone, whether that is data speeds or other features. Unless you don't have a LTE plan, then I understand completely.

I think that's backwards move there! Because I love my LTE speeds I get, almost faster than some WiFi at home!!
If you don't want lte speeds, then don't get a LTE PHONE!
And another thing if your really concerned about battery life then purchase a extended battery! They start out at 6200 mAh, 6500, 7600, 9300. Don't think they'll have to worry about battery life with one of those!
And tons of external back up batteries also. I have a16,000 mAh backup battery

Just so you know, messing around in that menu can also stop your SIM card from working! Phone nit getting no signal, not connecting to network! If you end up hitting the wrong buttons! Fyi

I disabled lte as well, since hspa+ is plenty fast around here I just select wcdma all.
Automatic can drain battery if you're in between two towers, like I am.
Isn't there a option in settings > mobile networks that you can choose to do it very fast?

Ya, I have the menu option in <mobile networks>. I turn off lte if I'm in an area where it keeps jumping between lte & hspa and it can save me 15-20% battery over an 8 hour work day.

Is there a way to permanently disable Edge? That would prove more useful for me.
Often time, there is a "4G" signal nearby but for 10 seconds I switch between Edge and HSPA I loose data connectivity.

As noted before, this will not work if you are on AT&T as it is RAT restricted.

Hi guys,
This might be a dumb question but, I don't have a sim in my tablet but it's showing signal? What's strange it the signal bar actually goes up and down as if it's picking up signal. It's low in low signal areas and high in high areas, I can compare this with my phone. I have the wifi 3g model. P601.
An explanation would be great.
Are you getting actual internet acess?

Screen shot.
Why are you surprised? The SIM is just an ID card. The LTE radio is in the tablet, so it makes sense that the tablet can see a signal, but have absolutely no idea what to do with it. I would turn off your LTE radio, however, to save battery.

I'm surprised because I have the 3g model p601 as far as I know it has no LTE? Correct me if I'm wrong though...I can find any LTE settings either.
Thanks for your reply.

That signal is for cell talk/text, not for data. Who know what carrier, but all cell phones have to be able to call 911, even with no plan.
