Hi guys,
This might be a dumb question but, I don't have a sim in my tablet but it's showing signal? What's strange it the signal bar actually goes up and down as if it's picking up signal. It's low in low signal areas and high in high areas, I can compare this with my phone. I have the wifi 3g model. P601.
An explanation would be great.
Are you getting actual internet acess?

Screen shot.
Why are you surprised? The SIM is just an ID card. The LTE radio is in the tablet, so it makes sense that the tablet can see a signal, but have absolutely no idea what to do with it. I would turn off your LTE radio, however, to save battery.

I'm surprised because I have the 3g model p601 as far as I know it has no LTE? Correct me if I'm wrong though...I can find any LTE settings either.
Thanks for your reply.

That signal is for cell talk/text, not for data. Who know what carrier, but all cell phones have to be able to call 911, even with no plan.

Thanks this clears it up.

HI,
I have a very weird problem with my phone... and don't know what the cause of this problem is. One day I woke up, and had terrible signal on my phone... it would show 2 bars n Edge on the top. Then have no service at all. So I factory reset my phone and all that good stuff and still have the same problem. When I'm at my other house, I have 4 bars and HSPA+... at work I have no service at all.. When I'm in my car... it goes from no service to full service and so on... I know it's not my sim card cause I tried it on my Buddy's note 2 and it works fine... I haven't done anything to my phone but unlock it so I am able to use my videotron phone with my Fido carrier. Other then that I haven't done anything with it. I have tried every single thing on this forum, except changing the signal antenna... Does anyone have a solution? And I can't bring it to Videotron cause it's unlocked...
PLEASE HELP
Thanks in advance!!!

Hey! Thx but I tried using the my friends sim card on my phone and it works fine... and vise versa... So it's not the carrier or the sim card... Its the actual phone itself... Someone told me to put a custom rom on it... but I kind of like the stock rom that comes with it. I purchased a signal antenna and will try that out when it arrives...

Just an idea, check your network mode through settings/mobile network/networksettings, maybe it has been changed. Or you can try *#2263# in the dial pad and see if it is set right also, I think it should be WCDMA All. Like you said it might be a hardware issue, but no harm done in checking these.
I'm waiting for Tmobile to send me a new phone for my wife.. Same problem.. And it just keeps getting worse.. I have spent hours on the phone with them and nothing helped so they agreed to send me a brand new phone

I have this exact same problem! No service at my house but my wife's note 2 works perfectly sitting right next to mine. Service is all over the place when driving around. Sometimes it will even show bars (service) but it's still searching for the tmobile network. But mostly the service is all over the place or not at all. The wifi calling feature works great and thank God for it, or I would never have service. I have since done a couple things to try to fix it. I have replaced the antenna module in the phone (its the part on the bottom back that has the loud speaker in it), I have rooted and flashed a new rom, as well as flashing several tmobile modems. Nothing so far has made any difference! I am beside myself as I have no warranty and no chance of returning it. Please please please someone help us!

Life saver for me with that dial pad code. Thank you!
Recently switched it to only 4G and when in bad signal areas, phone is useless and couldn't remember that code.
Stored that sucker into contacts, lol!

Which one did you set it to for it to work for your T-mobile, I have the same problem.
I thought T-Mobile is GSM, not CDMA? I wonder why it worked for you?
Which option did you set in that menu? Thank you.

Do you get LTE service?
I have exactly the same issue. Replaced the USB port board and since then I have terrible signal. I ordered new antenna wire and replaced it, but it did not help. while driving the hpone is balancing between full bars and no bars. At home bu my dest where I used to have 1-2 bars I have no service at all. I restored factory settings but it did not help. I'm sure it is not the service cause this same SIM works fine on another phone. Of course T-MOBILE (I use SOLAVEI but it is based on T-MOBILE network and service) is of course GSM so setting phone to CDMA makes no sense.
There are 3 connector pins on the plastic frame piece which is removable. One must remove that frame to get to the antenna or other pats (i.e ribbon connectors). I 'm not sure what is the role of those connectors or if they have anything to do with antenna or signal strenght/reception. Any ideas ?
IF ANYBODY MANAGED TO FIX THE PROBLEM (especially for Note-2 T_MOBILE phone) PLEASE SHARE IT !
Art
Problem seems to be with the gsm radio you can select gsm only and see if you get any signal if not its the gsm radio but I don't know how to fix it
Try to wash the sim card carrier by jupiter oil . Tried and worked well.

I think some people are too obsessed with this notion of battery life. Sure, LTE might degrade it a little, but is it really worth disabling completely? I'm sure I wouldn't, I want the full features of a phone, whether that is data speeds or other features. Unless you don't have a LTE plan, then I understand completely.

I think that's backwards move there! Because I love my LTE speeds I get, almost faster than some WiFi at home!!
If you don't want lte speeds, then don't get a LTE PHONE!
And another thing if your really concerned about battery life then purchase a extended battery! They start out at 6200 mAh, 6500, 7600, 9300. Don't think they'll have to worry about battery life with one of those!
And tons of external back up batteries also. I have a16,000 mAh backup battery

I disabled lte as well, since hspa+ is plenty fast around here I just select wcdma all.
Automatic can drain battery if you're in between two towers, like I am.
Isn't there a option in settings > mobile networks that you can choose to do it very fast?

Ya, I have the menu option in <mobile networks>. I turn off lte if I'm in an area where it keeps jumping between lte & hspa and it can save me 15-20% battery over an 8 hour work day.

Is there a way to permanently disable Edge? That would prove more useful for me.
Often time, there is a "4G" signal nearby but for 10 seconds I switch between Edge and HSPA I loose data connectivity.

Dear T-Mobile Note 2 Fans,
I absolutely love my Tmo Note 2.
However, I have one issue that's bringing me great distress and that I hope the community can point me toward a resolution.
I get no to very weak intermittent signal (no bar) at my home. Other places, I get normal signal.
Phone:
My phone has the latest stock T889UVBMD1. It's rooted. Immaculate. Never been dropped.
T-Mobile Coverage:
There's excellent T-Mobile coverage at my home area 2G/3G/4G/LTE.
Experiments:
I have taken my sim out, and inserted it into my wife's T-Mobile HTC One, and have gotten full bar 4G/LTE strong signal. Hence, This exclude possibility of bad sim or poor T-Mobile coverage in the area.
I have installed other modems (BMB4, VALL4) to no avail.
I have installed other roms (Jedi Master 16 to no avail.
I have used KIES to completely restore my phone back to factory state to no avail.
I have tried going into Setting ---> Network Mode and changed the settings to no avail
I have tried going into Service Mode via *#2263# and tried to force it to LTE/WDMA and WDMA ALL mode but to no avail.
I have used Open Signal app on both my wife's HTC One and my Note 2. It seems like the HTC One is connecting to the nearest cell tower. Hence, the strong signal connection. Whereas, the Note 2 is not connecting to the nearest possible cell tower.
Please kindly help me resolve this issue. Any other places aside from my home, my phone works perfectly fine. At home, I get no to very weak non-usable signal.
Many thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, what worked for me was going into network settings *#2263# and selecting (2) wmcda - all
I get full signal everywhere now & still connect to lte on the data side.
Thank you for the suggestion. I did try *#2263# but to no avail. Zero bar
As if there's an invisible force field around my house preventing JUST my Note 2 from the network.

Seems like the internal antenna is having an issue. Hmm, is it overheating?
Only reason I ask is I ran into this issue but with my old GS3. The antenna portion of the phone was burning up at times and not sure why exactly. So I decided Root the phone which resulted in a lost IMEI, injected it back in, still no signal and still the phone was still burning up. Long story short I just eventually just ended up taking it back to Tits-Mobile.

What worked for me was turning off lte, leaving at max 4g. My signal went from half to full.

i think tmobile is playing game on its users
tmobile knows where we live and reduce signal ....tmobile knows at home we gonna jamp their bandwidth ....cause we're on unlimitted plan
let's dump tmobile and go for Gosmart
Is that possible? I'm on the $70 PrePaid unlimited plan. There shouldn't be any throttling.
When I do take my sim out of the Note 2 and insert it into my wife's HTC One at home, I do get full bar speedy connection.
Perhaps, they are throttling base on the IMEI of the device, rather than, sim. That's just pure speculation on my part.

mine is on $70 pre-paid as well...but can't watch Youtube without having buffering; annoying and embarrassing
my coworkers are on Gosmart $45-plans and watch movie online just fine.

Hi. I purchased the Pro.8.4 for $350 at Best Buy. Apparently they only sell the WiFi version. I noticed that you can get the LTE version on Expansys for about $450. Anybody in the US buy the LTE version? What carrier you using and how is it working out. Is it worth the extra $100 to you? Thanks!

I bought the T325 and I am using it on AT&T. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the correct LTE bands for the U.S., so the best it can get is H+ which is 3g. Having said that, I don't have LTE where I live but I get 14Mbps on H+ so I'm not missing the LTE at home. I travel a lot and most of the places I go to have 3g speeds between 3-6Mbps so it does ok (a lot better than hotel wifi).
The thing to consider is that on AT&T, and I'm assuming t-Mobile as well, the T325 shows up as a cell phone so it will require a full cell phone sim. A data-only sim won't activate. I also had to tweak the APN to get a solid connection.
All said, I'm very happy with the T325 and I use it as my daily phone/tablet.

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Just wondering how you use it as a phone. Due you use it via bluetooth device?
I can confirm what flymacs wrote. It doesn't support LTE in US. I'm using AT&T as well and I've confirmed there is LTE coverage where I'm at from other AT&T users but I only connect to H+ (3G).
Not a real problem for me as I'm a light data user and I knew going in that LTE was a long shot.

The SM-T325 is the Cellular/International/Non-U.S. LTE version. The SM-T320 is the wifi only version. The T325 has a earpiece just like all cell phones. You can make/answer calls simply by holding it up to your ear like any other cell phone. Granted, it may look silly holding this size of a device next to your head. I use both a wired earbud and a bluetooth headset.
Phone quality and reception is very good. In fact the audio quality of the T325 is better than most of the devices I've used. The only minor issue I have is my work apps don't scale very well to the high ppi of the screen. But that is not the phone's fault.
I have an unlocked 10 running on T-Mobile US. I previously had no problems at home with a 4G LTE connection. But after updating to 1.53.617.5 this week, my LTE signal at home has completely disappeared on me. What's worse, the phone shows full bars, and won't drop to a slower connection. I have to manually switch to 4G/WCDMA (Auto) and use the slower 4G connection, which I presume is HSDPA.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I even did a factory reset, but it didn't help whatsoever.
Between this and the weak Wi-Fi, I'm starting to have second thoughts about this phone.

My LTE and wifi signal are slightly weaker on the 10 than what I'm used to seeing. Also on Tmo US. My LTE drops when I'm not upstairs lol. I took the ota when I first started up the phone so I can't speak for the other version.

I just tried wiping the cache partition. No dice.
I installed the OpenSignal app to see what's going on. It seems that the phone is locking onto a cell tower that's many miles away (in the middle of a river!), instead of many LTE cell towers that are only a block away from me. This makes no sense. It also indicates full reception.
The latest update definitely messed something up. Perhaps it's related to the "Wi-Fi stability enhancements".

I have this problem as well, spoke to T-Mobile and of course they tried to blame it on the phone saying that they cannot guarantee that an unlocked phone will work with their network. I proceeded to tell them that the phone was listed as fully compatible with T-Mobile's LTE network they had no answer. I know it's not a solution at all but I'm on T-Mobile's prepaid service so at the beginning of next month just before I need to make a payment I'm switching to AT&T to see if that is any better
I'm somewhat disappointed and I really don't know if I should return the phone or not

While I do think the 10 doesn't get a signal as strongly as other phones do (my S6 was great), I think the latest firmware (1.53) has impacted reception for the worse.
Wait till HTC release T-Mobile RUU , you can change your mid, cid to tmo and flash it.

I shouldn't have to flash the phone to get it to work. Also, the purpose of getting the unlocked version was to have a carrier-free phone.
The more I use this phone, the more I notice that LTE connectivity is screwed up. It likes to lock onto the wrong cell towers that offer no reception (but still display full bars).
What's interesting is that when I turn on Wi-Fi, the phone locks onto the correct cell towers.
Forget the camera; HTC needs to resolve all these radio connectivity issues!

I agree the purpose of getting the unlocked phone was to not have to have a carrier branded device. I noticed that as well with the phone connecting to be incorrect tower. It really is frustrating because I've already started paying for my phone so I don't want to have to return it, I like all aspects of it physically but something has to be done about this reception. I used to get 4 to 5 bars and now I'm lucky if I get two
This is really ridiculous, I've only had my phone off the charger for just over an hour and I've used 10% of battery. I don't keep Wi-Fi on all the time I only had to turn it on to use Wi-Fi calling because my signal is so bad, HTC really needs to do something with the radios in this phone because the poor cell signal is just killing my battery life. Is anybody experiencing this same problem?

You have a massive wake lock. Your issue doesn't reside with the radio.

Root your phone and then install better battery stats or gsam or any other utility that can show you specific wakelock stats and info. From there you can use that info to track down the specific wakelock.

Perhaps it's an app that's draining your battery.
I found that the Wi-Fi activity stat is wrong. Even on airplane mode, my 10 says that Wi-Fis active.
